Laura Prepon of Orange Is the New Black recently opened up about her weight struggles as a teenagerand how she overcame them for good.
Because of her instant fame as a teenager on That ’70s Show, Prepon told Entertainment Tonight that life growing up in front of the America was difficult for her self-esteem and weight issues.
“There were so many nights where I would wake up in the middle of the night like, ‘Oh my God! I have to be on camera tomorrow, and I’m so stressed out. How do I lose 10 pounds in eight hours?’” she said.
Prepon said she began a cycle of crash diets ofter suffering bloating and low energy. During that time, she would starve herself and even went so far as to use hormone injections to control her weight, with little to no success in keeping the unwanted pounds off.
Once Laura Prepon established a “clean eating” routine, her weight issues became a thing of the past.
Her plan included creating “The Stash Plan” with nutritionist Elizabeth Troy, which has been made into a New York Times best-selling cookbook called The Stash Plan: Your 21-Day Guide to Shed Weight, Feel Great, and Take Charge of Your Health.
“Twice a week you have these easy cooking sessions,” she said, explaining the 21-day program. “You cook a stash, put it in your fridge and every morning you build your meals from it. That really is the crux of it.”
That’s right, Orange is the New Black fans, Laura Prepon is back filming season four. That means, of course, Alex didn’t die.
Laura Prepon is very much alive and was willing to talk about OITNB and Alex’s relationship with Taylor.
When she was asked if Alex and Taylor, who have had the most insane relationship, could finally “ride off into the sunset”, she said, “The Alex and Piper relationship is so awesome. It’s so tumultuous. They love each other a lot.”

She added, “It’s this crazy relationship, there’s never a dull moment. I don’t know if two people like that could ever ride off into the sunset, but we’ll see what happens in season four. There’s no shortage of stories to tell.”
Watch for more possible spoiler hints if you dare…

Speaking of Laura Prepon (Alex) and her crazy love affair with Taylor, It was only a few days ago when Laura Prepon admitted that she likes kissing Taylor more than Topher Grace (Eric) from That 70’s Show.
When asked who was the better kisser, she said, “Oh, man! Topher would kill me, but I’m gonna say Taylor.”
Ruby Rose, one of the stars of HBO’s Orange is the New Black, blasted Kanye West in defense of Taylor Swift, just hours after the release of his new song, “Famous.”
Teresa Giudice has shared some details about her life behind bars in a new book titled Turning the Tables: From Housewife to Inmate and Back Again. Within its pages she describes her prison cell, and the activity that took place there after the lights went out at night.
Explaining that her cell became known as the “Boom Boom Room,” Teresa Giudice explains in a People magazine interview that she remained quite mellow about the actions of her cell mates.
“I’m pretty laid-back, pretty cool, and if that’s what you want to do to make your time go by, then I’m not going to mess that up for you,” she says. “But I don’t need to watch. They didn’t make it a secret, so I just put a blanket over my head.”
Teresa Giudice in first interview with #gma: Prison was 'hell,' 'yoga changed my life,' finances are 'good' https://t.co/co0dP1bDdg#RHONJ
In her book, which goes on sale today–Tuesday, February 9–Teresa Giudice details the moment she realized what was happening in her prison cell.
“One night, I looked over and I saw the girls in bed together. What’s the saying? There was no shame in their game!” she writes. “They were hanging out and then when the lights went out, they got busy.”
Giudice says two pairs of women regularly had sex in the “Boom Boom Room,” until a new cell mate moved in.
“When another girl arrived in our room, it all stopped because she wasn’t having it,” Teresa Giudice explains.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star was incarcerated for 15 months at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut–the same facility that inspired the HBO series Orange is the New Black. She was sentenced after pleading guilty to bankruptcy fraud and conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.
Teresa Giudice’s husband Joe will begin serving a 41-month sentence for the fraud charges, and a concurrent 12 months for failing to file a federal tax return in 2004, next month. He is likely to face deportation following his time in prison, because he is not a U.S. citizen.
Teresa Giudice said previously she and their four daughters will relocate along with Joe if he is deported.
Laura Prepon and her Orange is the New Black cast mates celebrated a big win at the SAG Awards this weekend, accepting the award for the Best Ensemble in a TV Comedy.
To Prepon, however, that wasn’t the only win she and her cast mates were celebrating.
“This is such an honor Look at this stage! This is what we talk about, when we talk about diversity! Different race, color, creed, sexual orientation,” Laura Prepon said during her speech, for Orange is the New Black’s second SAG win of the evening.
Uzo Aduba won the show’s first award of the evening for Best Comedic TV Actress for her role as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren.
“This wouldn’t be possible without [series creator] Jenji Kohan, for never shying away from telling these incredible stories,” Laura Prepon continued.
“Piper, this wouldn’t be possible without your memoir!” she added, addressing the woman behind Orange is the New Black, Piper Kerman.
Idris Elba kept Laura Prepon’s diversity theme going when he accepted two awards on Saturday. He won for Supporting Actor for his role in the film Beasts of No Nation, as well as the award for Lead Performance in the BBC miniseries Luther.
“Ladies and gentleman, welcome to diverse TV,” he said as he later returned to the stage as one of the evening’s presenters.
Other signs of diversity at the SAG Awards included Queen Latifah’s win for her role as singer Bessie Smith in HBO’s Addison to Elba and Viola Davis for How to Get Away With Murder.
Kudos to Idris Elba and Laura Prepon for recognizing the diversity at this weekend’s SAG Awards. Might they be paving the way for next year’s Academy Awards?
Taryn Manning is best known for her role as Tiffany âPennsatuckyâ Doggett in the Netflix series Orange is the New Black. Now the actress stands accused of allegedly attacking her makeup artist in her apartment in New York.
Legal documents obtained by People magazine state Taryn Manning allegedly head butted Holly Hartman, sprayed windex in her eyes, and put her in a headlock.
Hartman filed for a restraining order, but it sounds like the courts might be on to something that’s odd with regard to this situation.
âThe court has already denied the request by Ms. Hartman for a temporary restraining order. The application for the order is suspect because Ms. Manning has had no contact with Ms. Hartman in many months due to Ms. Hartmanâs actions against Ms. Manning which are currently under criminal investigation in multiple jurisdictions,â a statement from Manning’s legal counsel reads. âThese investigations have long predated these entirely fabricated allegations. Ms. Hartman is under investigation for stalking Ms. Manning and for theft and other crimes. It is clear that Ms. Hartmanâs camp has leaked these allegations which were not available publicly to elevate her own position and obscure her own wrong doing.â
Taryn Manning allegedly attacked Holly Hartman back in 2012, too, but those charges were dropped. At that time the women were described as âlongtime friends.â
When she filed for her restraining order, Holly Hartman alleged Taryn Manning yelled, âIâm wearing a white shirt there will be a lot of blood. You will be famous for killing Taryn Manning.â

Laverne Cox of Orange Is the New Black took a moment Sunday to share a few words of encouragement for fans at her first-ever appearance at the Golden Globe Awards.
While speaking with Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet Sunday night, Laverne paused to offer a heartfelt and inspiring message to fans who are struggling.
“I want to do a shout-out to everybody out there who’s watching who feel like your lives might … you’re struggling with feeling like you’re enough, like your lives are treated like they don’t matter, ” she said. “Your lives matter, your voices matter, your stories matter.”
The 31-year-old actress looked lovely in a custom white gown designed by Elizabeth Kennedy and jewels by Lorraine Schwartz for the occassion.
Cox later tweeted her excitement about the awards show on Saturday, writing, “Landed in Los Angeles today to attend the #GoldenGlobes tomorrow night for the first time. #excited Repping #oitnb #transisbeautiful.”
The actress told Ryan Seacrest that she was very honored to be a part of her hit Netflix show, which was nominated for Best Television Series, Comedy or Musical.
“I’m so grateful to be a part of this show that’s changed my life and has unprecedented diversity of women on television,” Laverne said.
Cox hinted that big things are on the horizon for fans of the Netflix original series.
“Our brilliant creator Jenji Kohan has this amazing vision,” Laverne revealed. “We just finished shooting season four and we’re going deeper into the issues of these women and the criminal justice system and it’s getting even more real if you can believe it.”
Nina Dobrev, former star of The Vampire Diaries, Ruby Rose of Orange is the New Black, and Bollywood star Deepika Padukone are all in talks to join Vin Diesel in XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, which is set to begin filming later this month.
The original film, which also starred Vin Diesel, was perceived as an anti-James Bond film. It followed Xander Cage, an extreme athlete forced to become a government agent. A second film followed, but didn’t star Diesel.
Nina Dobrev–if in fact she signs on to the film–will play the role of a “witty and sarcastic techie,” according to theHollywood Reporter. Ruby Rose will play a sniper. Deepika Padukone will play Cage’s former love interest as well as a huntress.
Following six seasons of The Vampire Diaries, Nina Dobrev starred in a horror comedy called The Final Girls. She recently wrapped filming of Crash Pad alongside Christina Applegate and Domhnall Gleeson, and is set to star in an indie comedy called Arrivals, opposite Maisie Williams and Asa Butterfield.
Ruby Rose will appear in the upcoming Resident Evil 6, and recently wrapped filming the sequel to Keanu Reeves’ film John Wick.
What’s your take on the upcoming XXX: The Return of Xander Cage? With Vin Diesel, Nina Dobrev, Ruby Rose, and Deepika Padukone, it will certainly feature a star-studded cast.
Victoria Justice has been cast in the role of Janet Weiss in Fox’s upcoming remake of Rocky Horror Picture Show. Justice’s role was played by Susan Sarandon in the original film.
The Huffington Post isn’t sure Victoria Justice in Rocky Horror Picture Show is good casting.
“But in what world does choosing Justice as Janet make any sense, apart from trying to convince audiences that she has shed her child-star persona in favor of some more controversial fare?” they ask.
“This is Rocky Horror not Spring Breakers,” the HuffPost adds.
What are your thoughts on Victoria Justice playing Janet Weiss in Rocky Horror Picture Show? Will she pleasantly surprise her critics, or will this be another of those TV remakes that simply shouldn’t have come to fruition?
Phoebe Dahl and Orange is the New Black star Ruby Rose have called off their engagement. A source close to the former couple confirmed the split to People magazine on Monday. The source says it was an amicable, mutual split, citing the travel their professional lives required as the reason behind it.
Rose plays the role of inmate Stella Carlin on Orange is the New Black. Phoebe Dahl is a designer. She is also the granddaughter of famed children’s author Roald Dahl.
Dascha Polanco, best known for her role as Dayanara Diaz in Orange is the New Black, is facing four counts of assault and harassment. 17-year-old Michelle Cardona alleges the actress roughed her up in her upper Manhattan home back in July.
As Dayanara Diaz, Dascha Polanco plays an inmate at Litchfield Penitentiary, who is having an ongoing affair with a prison guard. She is in prison for drug charges.
âOITNBâ star Dascha Polanco hit with assault charges after punching teenage girl https://t.co/lSssEEIyVt
In real life, Dayanara Diaz allegedly punched, scratched, and pulled the hair of the teen girl.
Might TV life meet real life if Diaz is found guilty?
According to a report from Page Six, police claim Michelle Cardona suffered âbruising and redness to her face, scratches to her arms, and substantial pain,â and was hospitalized for her injuries.
Dascha Polanco reportedly invited the teen to her apartment via text message prior to the alleged attack.
Gerald Lefcourt is Dascha Polanco’s defense attorney. He is confident his client will get off.
âItâs a setup to try to get money and it was tape-recorded,â Lefcourt says. âThis young woman was trying to extort her to drop the case. Weâre confident the charges will be dismissed.â
Dascha Polanco appeared on the assault charges on Thursday, which was also her birthday. She declined to comment on the case.
Do you think Dascha Polanco is a real-life criminal? Or is it more likely–as her defense attorney stated–that Michelle Cardona is setting her up for money?
Laverne Cox, best known as Sophia on Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, has signed on to play Dr. Frank-N-Furter in an upcoming remake of cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
The role was made iconic by actor Tim Curry (also well known for playing Pennywise the clown in the adaptation of Stephen King’s IT and Darkness in Ridley Scott’s Legend) in the 1975 musical, which also starred Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon.
News of the remake emerged earlier this year. CNN reported in April:
Fox is developing a two-hour remake of the 1975 cult classic to be directed, executive-produced and choreographed by Kenneth Ortega (“High School Musical”). The project, tentatively titled “The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event,” is casting-contingent.
The special will be filmed in advance and not air live, but few details beyond that are known. In addition to Ortega, Gail Berman and Lou Adler, who produced the original film, are also attached as executive producers. The special will be produced by Fox 21 Television Studios, and Berman’s The Jackal Group.
Natasha Lyonne and Fred Armisen have been a rumored couple for about a year, and those rumors were definitely confirmed on the red carpet at the 2015 Emmys on Sunday.
The Orange is the New Black star and her Portlandia beau were adorable together as they laughed and smiled–and shared some subtle PDA–on the red carpet. Natasha Lyonne couldn’t help laughing at the Freddy Krueger glove Fred Armisen wore for the event.
Natasha Lyonne didn’t get any Emmy nominations this year, but was nominated last year, losing out to her Orange is the New Black costar Uzo Aduba for her Crazy Eyes role. Her fun-loving personality shined bright last year, too, as she was caught sexting just prior to an interview with Ross Matthews.
“This is not a G-rated text message I’m sending right now,” she told Matthews at the time.
Fred Armisen split from wife Elizabeth Moss back in 2011 and has been single ever since. Sources say he and Natasha Lyonne have actually been dating for about a year.
Armisen is often spotted on Late Night With Seth Meyers as he leads his 8G Band.
What’s your take on the relationship between Natasha Lyonne and the SNL alum. Do you agree that they were really cute together as they walked the 2015 Emmys red carpet on Sunday?
Netflix has never, and at least according to its higher ups, will never, release ratings. In other words, Netflix doesn’t want to tell you how many of its subscribers are watching its original programming. Since it doesn’t sell advertising, it doesn’t need to. Also, in the past, Netflix has acted as though it’s not even a metric they really care about around the office. Whatever Netflix.
So, in lieu of knowing actual figures, we have surveys. The newest one comes from RBC analyst Mark Mahaney (via Re/code).
As of August, Orange Is The New Black is the most-watched Netflix original with 57% reporting some viewing. House of Cards comes in a semi-close second at 45%.
New shows Daredevil and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt have 23% and 22% viewership, respectively.
OITNB being cream of the Netflix original crop isn’t that much of a shocker. In the past, Netflix has said it was the most-popular original.
Of course, one huge flaw â or at least limitation â of this survey is the only metric is “have watched”. Not word on whether they finished the whole series, or only watch an episode or two. Also no word on how they felt about the shows, but the semi-consistent figures over the past few quarters proves these shows aren’t plunging in popularity.
Last fall, a massive survey of over 30,000 people found that 61% of Netflix subscribers have watched at least some of the company’s original programming.
Maybe, someday, Netflix will let us know who’s watching its shows. Probably not. But until then, we have surveys.
Natasha Lyonne shocked Orange is the New Black fans when her character, Nicky Nichols, made a sudden and dramatic departure to Maximum Security after only three episodes into the new season.
While Natasha Lyonne’s character had shown self-destructive behavior and a tendency toward addiction, most fans simply weren’t expecting such a dramatic exit for Nicky.
Natasha Lyonne gave an interview to TV Guide to elaborate on the situation and answer the question everyone wants to know: Will Nicky be back?
As to whether or not Nicky was rightfully hauled off, Natasha Lyonne was clear, saying, “I think it was very appropriate. I think when people are self-destructive it has big consequences.”
She added, “And I think what’s so excellent about Orange Is the New Black is that, as funny as it is, it’s always grounded by the stakes of the situation these characters are in.”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUZqBM2roQo
Natasha Lyonne can't confirm or deny if she'll be back in Season 4. But, like, come on… #OITNB#TCA15
So, will Nicky be back? It seems not even Natasha Lyonne herself knows the answer to that one, but she’s with her fans in hoping that it could materialize.
She said, “I certainly don’t know what’s in Jenji’s mind, but I would love to move inside of Jenji’s mind because it is a vast and endless landscape of imagination.”
She added, “So, who knows? And I could certainly see a million different avenues to go down… I mean, I love this show so much. I love everybody that I’ve gotten to work with. And I’m a big fan of the whole situation.”
Yes, there are many fans of the whole situation, clearly.
What do you think of the swift and shocking departure of Natasha Lyonne’s character? Do you hope to see Nicki back someday?
Laura Prepon is famous for playing a woman in prison. But there is a real woman behind Prepon’s character on Orange Is the New Black. For the longest time, Prepon did not get to talk with her, but now she has. Prepon is thrilled that her inspiration is pleased with her work.
Laura Prepon’s character on OITNB is Alex Vause. She is paramour to the show’s central character, Piper Chapman. While Piper is based on real-life Piper Kernan, who write the book Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison, the character of Alex is based on Cleary Wolters.
Prepon did not get to meet Wolters when she took on the role, but she wanted to.
“When we first started the show I wanted to meet with her and pick her brain and talk to her, you know, and I wasn’t allowed to. She was kind of MIA,” Prepon explains.
While Orange Is the New Black is described as a “dramedy,” they do take liberties with how things really are in prison. Prepon was not sure how Wolters would feel about that.
But Wolters recently published a memoir of her own, capitalizing on the OITNB popularity. Her book is called Out of Orange: A Memoir, and she sets the record straight about a few things.
Wolters sent Laura Prepon a signed copy of her memoir, along with a letter.
“She basically was like, ‘Thank you so much for your portrayal,’” Laura Prepon says.
I’m still not over Laura Prepon’s acting in season 3. UNREAL. All the awards.
â ALL THINGS OITNB (@AllThingsOITNB) June 13, 2015
Wolters is grateful to Prepon, but she has spoken about some things in which the show varies from real life. For example, Wolters insists that she and Piper never had sex.
“We did not have sex in prison,” Wolters says, “Not even a little bit.”
âPraying is about the most intimate thing two people can do in some places, not sex,â Wolters says. âWe made some mean dinners together, though, out of cans of cheese, corn chips, and chili, and Piper learned how to communicate effectively through a toilet.â
@LauraPrepon still have one episode left. I love you and Alex Vause so much. Forever #teamalex
But Wolters understands the need to stretch the reality of life in prison a bit for a show, including some parts of Laura Prepon’s portrayal of her. She says the true story would be âso wretched and stinky, it would quite possibly result in a collapsed universe. So I guess itâs a good thing Piper and Jenji stick with the fun little tidbits.â
Wolters’ book, Out of Orange is described as “an intimate look at international drug crimeâa seemingly glamorous lifestyle that dazzles unsuspecting young women and eventually leads them to the seedy world of prison.”
The scene Wolters paints is not quite the same as Laura Prepon and her fellow cast mates on OITNB put on screen.
âWe were ghosts of the humans we had once been, milling about amongst hundreds of other human ghosts, shackled and chained, prodded through transport centers at gunpoint, moved through holding facilities,â says Wolters
Laura Prepon is amazing as Alex Vause on the hit show, Orange is the New Black.
Interestingly enough, Laura Prepon didn’t ever meet with the real-life ex-con who is the inspiration for her role.
That woman is named Catherine Cleary Wolters and apparently she likes the job Laura Prepon is doing in playing her, so would a meet-up ever be a possibility in the future?
Laura Prepon said that Wolters recently sent her a copy of her memoir, Out of Orange, with a nice letter.
Laura Prepon explained, “She basically was like, ‘Thank you so much for your portrayal.’”
She added, “I was actually really pleasantly surprised because I wasn’t sure how she was going to take the fact that I’m playing it a certain way.”
By that, Laura Prepon probably means the difference in the show’s portrayal of relationships and what happened in real life. Last year, Wolters told Vanity Fair, âWe did not have sex in prison. Not even a little bit.”
She added of her actual encounters with her fellow inmates, âWe were ghosts of the humans we had once been, milling about amongst hundreds of other human ghosts, shackled and chained, prodded through transport centers at gunpoint, moved through holding facilities.â
A meeting between Laura Prepon and Catherine Cleary Wolters wasn’t always in the cards.
Prepon said, “When we first started the show I wanted to meet with her and pick her brain and talk to her, you know, and I wasn’t allowed to. She was kind of MIA.”
Time will tell if Wolters will appreciate the new direction Laura Prepon is taking her character, Alex, in the new season.
Laura Prepon was kind enough to give a hint about what will be going on.
She said, “Alex is broken. She basically doesn’t know how she got back in to prison, she feels like an idiot that she has freedom again and she doesn’t know how she got back in there and it’s a situation. But it’s great, you see all these sides to her that you haven’t necessarily seen before.”
That sounds awesome! Are you looking forward to enjoying the new direction Laura Prepon takes Alex on the new season of Orange is the New Black?
Laura Prepon has been giving the scoop on what is ahead in the third season of the hit Netflix original series Orange is the New Black.
In the show, the actress plays Alex Vause. Vause is a federal inmate who was convicted on drug trafficking charges. Vause is also the complicated lesbian girlfriend of the protagonist, Piper Chapman.
The last season of OITNB, Preponâs character got a plea deal for naming a drug lord in court which freed Vause from prison. However, her cooperation with the legal system wasnât enough to take the vindictive kingpin down.
Just before the end of season 2, Chapman, which is played by Taylor Schilling, set Vause up for a parole violation that landed her back in prison for season 3.
Preponâs character is not going to be the same confident, self-assured lady they got to know in season one. She’s wracked with self-doubt and as Prepon labeled it, “feels like a fool.”
“She doesn’t know how she got back in, she doesn’t know that Piper is the reason for it, and I think she just feels foolish and stupid,” said Prepon. “Now that she had that freedom and it was taken away again, I think she just has lost faith in herself, has lost faith in her and Piper and is kind of a little hopeless.”
OITNB is based on a true story created by Jenji Kohan.
Just recently, Prepon stated that Catherine Wolters reached out to her to applaud her portrayal of the role. Wolters is the woman behind the inspiration of Preponâs character.

Kate Mulgrew is seeing a career resurgence as Red with Orange is the New Black, but to millions she will always be Captain Katherine Janeway of the U.S.S. Voyager.
Kate Mulgrew is more than just the two roles she happens to be best known for. And now she is telling that story in a new memoir titled Born With Teeth.
Yes, Kate Mulgrew was indeed born with teeth
Determined to pursue her own no matter the cost, at 18 she left her small Midwestern town for New York, where, studying with the legendary Stella Adler, she learned the lesson that would define her as an actress: “Use it,” Adler told her. Whatever disappointment, pain, or anger life throws in your path, channel it into the work.
Kate Mulgrew’s career was just taking off when she became pregnant at age 22. She gave the baby up for adoption. Later in life, she would spend another 22 years looking for her daughter.
Finally, Kate Mulgrew got a phone call from Danielle, the daughter she had given up for adoption all those years before.
“Time stopped,” she told People Magazine. “I remembered the notes dancing in the first light of dawn in the Venetian blinds. There was this voice, unrecognizable, but I knew it was her.”
Mulgrew and Danielle did meet while she was filming her famous Star Trek series. Kate Mulgrew said she was so nervous talking to her daughter for the first time that she asked her a series of odd questions, just to keep her on the phone.
“I remember three questions came from her,” Damielle recalled. The first one was, ‘Are you pretty?’ And then the second one was, ‘Are you happy?’ And then the third one was, ‘Do you believe in God?’ That is Kate in a nutshell.”
“I wasn’t thinking,” Kate Mulgrew explained. “I was just desperate to keep my daughter on the line, and the fact that I asked her if she was pretty â let alone if she believed in God â shows how out of it I was. I have no recollection of asking Danielle these questions and find it fascinating that Danielle remembers them so clearly.”
