  • Lindsay Vonn Wins on Slopes and Wins Cow, Too

Lindsay Vonn celebrated the sweet thrill of victory on the slopes of Val d’Isere on Saturday. It was just a year ago on the very same snow that she aggravated a right knee injury, which ended her season and dashed all hopes of defending her downhill crown at the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Vonn says boyfriend Tiger Woods inspired her comeback. She was excited to address the media following her win.

“I already knew I could win here today,” she told reporters. “It was for other people to understand that I’m back to where I used to be.”

“It’s a celebration for myself and for the team around me. After two tough years, I’ve waited a long time for this and I’m very happy,” she added. “It feels amazing. I was a bit nervous as I made some mistakes in training. I skied aggressively today.”

Part of Lindsay Vonn’s excitement this weekend was her prize of a baby cow. She won one in 2005 as well. That 2005 prize now has had enough calves to provide the skier with a small herd. She keeps them on a farm in Austria.

“This is the best prize for winning a race EVER!! I have a new addition to my growing herd…meet “Winnie” my one month old baby calf. #sohappy #mynewcutie #win61 #LiVetheClimb,” Lindsay Vonn captured her Instagram photo.

She also shared a photo of herself just before a run.

Yes, it seems like Lindsay Vonn is definitely back in action. And whether Tiger Woods is to be credited with inspiration or not, it’s Vonn who skis with such precision and speed.

Did you have any idea that skiers won baby cows for their efforts on the slopes?

  • Lindsey Vonn is Headed Back to the Slopes This Weekend

For months now, the media attention surrounding Lindsey Vonn has been about the athlete’s relationship with pro golfer Tiger Woods. The relationship has been scrutinized to such a degree that it could be easy to forget Vonn is a world-class skier and that she is still recovering from a devastating skiing accident in Austria early this year. Now, however, it seems Vonn is on-track to achieve her goal of competing int he 2014 Winter Olypmics.

The Associated Press this week reported that Vonn will hit the slopes this weekend for the first time since her accident. She was scheduled to first ski again in November, but will reportedly be skiing in Chile over the holiday weekend. Instead of just returning in November, Vonn is now expected to resume competitive skiing that month. The athlete told the AP that she feels “claustrophobic” when not skiing.

Vonn has been chronicling her long recover on her Facebook page. Monthly updates have depicted Vonn working hard in the gym, strengthening her injured knee and using the hashtag “#sochi2014” as a motivation. The AP reports that she spent four hours per day working out. The Facebook work-out updates have been coming more frequently throughout August, demonstrating that her strength and balance training is coming along well:

Vonn has even recently posted a video of her workout, perfecting her balance with the help of a trainer:

Golf Shot Hits Wife After Skiier Jokes On Twitter

Olympic skiier Bode Miller tried his hand at golf earlier this week to disastrous results; he may have played a decent game, but he hit a line drive that ended up almost taking out his wife’s eye.

Miller took to Twitter to document his game, joking that he had made lots of awful shots for his wife to laugh at. The next tweet came right after the shot that ended badly but could have been much worse.

For the morbidly curious, there’s a photo here of the aftermath. WARNING: extremely graphic photo.

Luckily for Miller’s wife–model and volleyball player Morgan Miller–she was wearing shatterproof sunglasses from Kaenon which absorbed some of the impact. The athlete says she is feeling a little better today but still can’t see out of that eye and has some numbness in her head, which is to be expected after such a hard hit and 50 stitches.
