  • Ohio Crash Sends Packages Flying Across Turnpike

Ohio has seen more than its fair share of brutal accidents in the past few weeks after a high-speed crash killed two people on Thanksgiving and, on Tuesday, a UPS truck slammed into a semi that was parked on the side of a turnpike for repairs.

The latest crash caused the Ohio Turnpike to shut down early Tuesday morning, although police were able to allow cars to move through along the shoulder one at a time. Luckily, there were no injuries reported, but the semi driver was briefly trapped in his vehicle.

The UPS truck clipped the semi–which had been stopped for repairs from a service truck–as it passed, scattering packages along the road. Authorities were at a loss as to what to do with the boxes until they got word from UPS.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol released dash-cam video this week of the Thanksgiving accident that took two lives; the dramatic video shows a car speeding by, followed by a brief chase and the horrifying discovery of a car engulfed in flames. The officer tries to extinguish the fire, but it proves to be too much for him. The driver of the speeding car, a 24-year old Kent man identified as Andrew D. Gans, is being held on $1 million bond for vehicular manslaughter. One of the officers at the scene can be overheard saying the driver was going “about 150 mph”.
