  • Star Wars Fake Fans are ‘Wankers’ and ‘Lowlifes’, Says Ewan McGregor

With the latest Star Wars installment in the making, there is an entire industry around Star Wars merchandise and paraphernalia that is heating up again. George Lucas himself famously made a fortune by not dismissing the possibilities in licensing merchandise from the movies.

Sometimes making money on that stuff leads people to be a bit pushy. Ewan McGregor, who played a younger Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel series, recently spoke to Details Magazine about his run-ins with the folks who are only out to get his autograph for re-sale.

“I don’t have any experience with [real fans at conventions]. I’ve never been to one of the conventions. The people I meet are the fuckers who want me to sign Star Wars photos so they can sell them on the Internet or the people at premieres who are crushing children against barriers to get me to sign their fucking picture of Obi-Wan Kenobi. They’re not fans—they’re parasitical lowlifes and fucking wankers.”

Autographed prints of McGregor as Obi-Wan sell for between $100 and $200 on eBay and other online shops. So the market is understandably lucrative for dealers.

McGregor is aware that Phantom Menace, one of the prequel installments he was in, is not well-liked by fans. Fans are particularly critical of the Jar Jar Binks character. But McGregor seems to understand the disdain fans have.

“I watched it once, at the premiere, so I’m not in a good position to judge. They had a tall order, the three films I did. The fans waited so long and wanted to feel like they did when they watched the first film, but they were grown-ups by that time. I don’t mind the criticism. I’ve heard it to my face.”

  • Ewan McGregor Would Play Obi Wan In Star Wars VII If Asked

With the release date for Star Wars Episode VII in 2015 drawing closer and closer, there have been a lot of rumors floating around the web relating to who will be starring in the new J.J. Abrams version of the famous sci-fi saga. One of the rumors that has been recently spreading is if Benedict Cumberbatch will star in the new version, along with Ewan McGregor, who played the young Obi Wan Kenobi in the first three episodes of the George Lucas saga.

This past Thursday (September 12, 2013), the Scotland-born actor told E! News that he has not been asked by Abrams to star, but if McGregor did receive a call inviting him to continue playing the role of Obi Wan Kenobi, he would gladly accept the honor.

According to IMDb, the other main Star Wars characters, such as: Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Lando Calrissian, and C-3PO are all rumored to make an appearance in the new Abrams film. Also, according to IMDb, the site lists Carrie Fisher’s role as “Leia Solo,” which means it would continue on from Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.

Ewan McGregor’s role of Obi Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars films is quite unique. On the Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith – Web Documentaries of Revenge of the Sith DVD, McGregor discussed that he made a special effort to learn the “mannerisms, speech timings, and accents” to closely resemble the actor who originally played Kenobi, Alec Guiness.

Currently, Ewan McGregor is working on August: Osage County, starring Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts. August: Osage County will be released in theatres on January 2nd, 2014 (Source: IMDb).

  • Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Cross Lightsabers in Angry Birds Star Wars

Rovio, the developers of the Angry Birds series, have been releasing preview videos for Angry Birds Star Wars all week long. Each video features a famous Star Wars duo and provides a glimpse of what their characters’ bird-powers will be in the game. For example, the Luke Skywalker bird flails his father’s lightsaber around, while the Han Solo bird fires a ricocheting blaster.

In the preface to the Han Solo and Chewbacca preview released yesterday, I speculated that Ben Kenobi would be the most likely character to show up next, and it turns out that I was right. Today’s preview features Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader, crossing lightsabers one last time in their old age. The video shows that the Obi-Wan bird will, of course, use the force to knock around the evil piggy empire, including the porcine Darth Vader.

It’s Friday, so this is probably the last preview video for the week, but Rovio still has a few day next week to announce characters before the November 8 release of Angry Birds Star Wars. I’m still holding out for Yoda and Lando birds.
