  • Galaxy Nexus Release Date “Confirmed” December 8th, Pre-Order November 29th

Is the wait almost over for one of the most desired new smartphones of the holiday season?

Today, we find more information that corroborates an early December U.S. release date for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. According to a source deemed “credible,” Computerworld reports that the Galaxy Nexus will be available for pre-order on Tuesday, November 29th and available in stores on December 8th.

The reason for their certainty comes from a source that they seem to have confidence in. Although this is in essence a “some guy said” type of rumor, Computerworld assures us of the credibility of this story and also says that it is merely one of multiple reports all saying the same thing.

Apparently, the source emailed Verizon bashing them for their handling of the whole Galaxy Nexus situation. After some email communication, he was contacted by Verizon:

When she called me I explained to her my issues. … She then said “Well Mr. Peak, I can assure you, it won’t be long. Preorders are set to start Tuesday (November 29th). And the phone will be released Dec. 8th.” She also then said she was going to get ahold of my local store to make sure they called me as soon as they got one in, and held one for me to ensure I got one in the first Wave. Which I thought sounded like ********. But low and behold, Saturday night around 6pm I got a call from the Verizon store 1 town over (she apparently didn’t Google the closest..) and they have my name down and are saving me a nexus, and will hold it for 2 days past release for me.

Apart from a few grammatical errors, how does the story sound to you guys? Does this sound like something that a Verizon rep would say? It’s possible that this guy’s frustration caused the rep to slip something that she normally wouldn’t have.

This information matches leaked advertising materials that surfaced last week. Those failed to mention a pre-order date, but did set the release date as December 8th. Samsung later confirmed that the device would launch in December, although the refrained from stating a specific date.

I guess we will know on Tuesday how credible this information really is, as pre-orders should begin at that time.

  • Samsung Galaxy Nexus Release Date: November 17th in the UK

It looks like we finally have a hard date for the release of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus – at least for the folks in the UK.

Samsung Mobile’s official Twitter account tweeted that the Galaxy Nexus will “roll out across Europe” from November 17th.

The last rumor we heard about a UK release date was that it was to be November 16th. That was based on an online smartphone retailer’s website. It looks like they were a day off, as that tweet makes this thing official.

The phone will arrive unlocked, as well as initially available on the O2 network. If you look on the Amazon UK site, the 16GB Galaxy Nexus is available for pre-order for £549.99. You can also see confirmation of the November 17th release date:

There’s still no official word on a U.S. release date, but some leaked documents have pegged it as early as November 10th. We can’t imagine that it would be too far removed from this November 17th European roll-out.

The Galaxy Nexus (previously codenamed Nexus Prime) will boast an giant 4.65 inch screen running at 1280×720 resolution – a true Super AMOLED HD experience. It will sport 1GB RAM and a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor. It is a thin phone – only 8.84 mm thick. There are no mechanical buttons on the phone, instead everything it built into the massive touch screen.

  • Nexus Prime Release Date Hinted, Launch Confirmed By Japanese Carrier

With the Google/Samsung Hong Kong event just a few hours away, one major Japanese wireless carrier has let the news regarding the upcoming Nexus Prime (Galaxy Nexus) slip a little early.

According to a tweet from the carrier, the Nexus Prime will be launched at the event and released to the public sometime in November. The event in question will also see the unveiling of the new Android OS, Ice Cream Sandwich. It is set to kick off October 19th in Hong Kong – and will stream live tonight, October 18th at 10 pm EST on the Android YouTube channel.

Here’s the tweet from the Japanese carrier, DoCoMo –

    予告: 明日10月19日 香港にてサムスン電子とGoogleが発表する 最新Android OS搭載スマートフォン。ドコモは世界でもほぼ最速にあたる、11月に発売を予定。詳細は後日。 http://t.co/rF9nifJx #docomo 10 hours ago via web · powered by @socialditto

With the help of Google translate, we see that it says:

Notice: the latest Android OS smartphone with Google and Samsung Electronics announced on October 19 in Hong Kong tomorrow. DoCoMo is almost equivalent to the fastest in the world, scheduled for release in November. More later.

So it looks like we will see a Nexus Prime debut with Ice Cream Sandwich in just a matter of hours.

The “scheduled for release in November” part echoes information we saw on Monday that said the release date could be as early as November 10th. A leaked pricing list showed a sales window starting on that date.

As a bonus, Italian site Android.hdblog has come across what they say is a flyer to the event. It shows the Nexus Prime from two angles, and it appears to looks like the same phone we’ve seen in supposed leak videos and other promo photos.

They also confirm some device specs, most of which we have heard before – 4.65 AMOLED HD screen with curved glass, NFC, 1GB RAM, 1.2 GHz dual-core processor. The device is also said to be 5.4 in. x 2.7 in. x .35 in. (.45 in. at thickest part), which would make the Nexus Prime extremely thin.

  • Nexus Prime Release Date As Early As November 10th?

UPDATE: Launch confirmed for Oct 19th Samsung/Google event by Japanese carrier, release date said to be sometime in November.

We know that the big Google / Samsung mobile event is going down on October 19th, and we know that one of the big reveals set to take place at said event is the new Google OS, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Invitations went out last week for the event, which was rescheduled after the two companies cancelled the previous October 11th date out of respect for the late Steve Jobs.

It is widely speculated that the next Google phone, the Samsung Nexus Prime (Galaxy Nexus) will also be unveiled at the October 19th event. It would be the first device to run the brand new Ice Cream Sandwich OS.

Now, a leaked MAP (minimum advertised price) list reveals not only the suggested price of the device, but a possible release timeframe as well.

Droid Life obtained the list, which shows the “Samsung Galaxy Nexus” as a minimum $299 phone, with a MAP period beginning on November 10th, 2011. In addition, the list shows another buzzed-about phone, the HTC Rezound, with the exact same details.

Of course, the front end of this window is not a definite launch date, but it is possible. As Droid Life points out, it would be surprising to see the device launched before it can be advertised at the minimum price – so the speculation by some that we could see it hit stores even earlier looks to be on shaky ground.

And if you want to be super cynical, it’s always possible that the leaked memo could be incorrect or intentionally misleading in the worst-case scenario. But the timeframe definitely feels reasonable given this week’s probable unveiling.

Leaked specs have said the phone will sport a 4.65 super AMOLED screen with curved glass, as well as 1GB RAM and NFC capabilities.

Earlier this month, a video surfaced reportedly showing the Nexus Prime in the wild: It has yet to be totally confirmed or denied:

What do you think? Will this be a huge device for the Android platform? Can it challenge the just-released iPhone 4S? Apple just announced that they have sold over 4 million 4S devices in the first 3 days. Let us know how you feel about the upcoming phone in the comments.

Has the Nexus Prime (aka Galaxy Nexus) been spotted in the wild?

According to mobilissimo.ro, someone has gotten their hands on the upcoming device – and it’s running Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0).

Here’s a video demo of the phone, and it looks to have some of the features that have been rumored of the Nexus Prime – that would include the lack of mechanical buttons, replaced by a touch interface. Check it out below:

We’ve also been graced with this clear shot of the device, which may be the first full on image of the upcoming Google-powered phone:

Yesterday, we reported on some leaked specs of the Nexus Prime. BGR obtained documents that showed the upcoming device equipped with a 4.65-inch super AMOLED-HD screen with curved glass, 1GB RAM, dual-core A9 processor and NFC capabilities.

Later, gsmarena posted what they claimed to be the actual specs of the Nexus Prime, which modified the previous rumors to include an 8 MP camera and a battery that would allow for a couple of days use without a charge.

Could the phone above be that phone?

We were set to find out this upcoming Tuesday, October 11th at the Unpacked 2011 Samsung/Google mobile event. Invitations went around for that event at the end of last month. Most speculated that the Nexus Prime and Ice Cream Sandwich OS would be unveiled at that time.

But today, Samsung and Google released a joint statement postponing any new product launch, saying it simply wasn’t the right time.

It looks like we will have to wait for any official announcement. But until then, check out some more photos of what just might be Ice Cream Sandwich running on the new Nexus phone:

What do you think? Does it look like an iPhone 4S rival? Let us know in the comments.

  • Nexus Prime, Ice Cream Sandwich Event Postponed

At the end of last month, Samsung sent out invitations for a big mobile event called Unpacked 2011, subtitled “The Google Episode.” The invitation asked for invitees to join them to “get a look at what’s new from Android.”

The event was supposed to kick off this upcoming Tuesday, October 11th in San Diego.

It’s been widely speculated that the Unpacked event would be the place where the new Google phone, the Nexus Prime (or Galaxy Nexus), would be unveiled. Another draw for the event was the probable showcasing of the latest Android OS, Ice Cream Sandwich.

You might have noticed that I’m speaking in the conditional and past tenses, and that’s because it looks like we won’t be seeing a big product launch on October 11th.

Samsung and Google released this joint statement this morning:

Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced.

So it looks like we will have to wait for that official Nexus Prime reveal.

Why would they feel like it’s not the right time to announce a product? The 11th is exactly a week after Apple’s big October 4th iPhone 4S launch. It seems like a perfect time for Google and Samsung to strike with a brand new phone. Samsung has went to the trouble of producing trailers for the big event that say “something big is coming.”

Could it be Steve Jobs’ death that has led them to this decision? Whatever the cause, Android users will wait anxiously for the rescheduling announcement.

  • Nexus Prime Rumor: Leaked Specs and Verizon Exclusive?

Are you anxious for the big Nexus Prime reveal, widely speculated to take place next Tuesday at the Google/Samsung Unpacked event?

If you’re curious and just too impatient to wait a few days, you might be in luck. Some supposed specs have been leaked, and by the looks of them, the Nexus Prime is probably not going to disappoint.

BGR has obtained a pretty full spec sheet from a “trusted source.” This spec sheet reveals that the Nexus Prime, officially called the “Samsung Galaxy Nexus,” will be the first device to come with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. Corroborating multiple rumors, the leaked information says that the phones will sport a giant curved screen as well as 1GB RAM and NFC capabilities.

Here’s the full spec list –

    • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
    • 9mm thin
    • 4.65-inch 1280 x 720-pixel Super AMOLED HD with curved glass
    • TI OMAP 4460 dual-core Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1.2GHz
    • 1GB of RAM
    • 32GB of built-in storage
    • 5-megapixel camera on the back, 1.3-megapixel in the front
    • 1080p HD video capture support
    • LTE/HSPA depending on carrier
    • Wi-Fi a/b/g/n
    • NFC
    • 1,750 mAh battery

How does that sound? Is it what you were expecting?

BGR also says that the Galaxy Nexus will launch as a Verizon exclusive – news that is bound to piss off a few people tied to other carriers.

At the end of September, Samsung sent out invitations to their Mobile Unpacked 2011 event, calling it the “Google Episode.” The event will take place October 11th, exactly one week after Apple unveiled the iPhone 4S. The common belief is that the new Nexus phone and Ice Cream Sandwich will be launched at this event.

And yesterday, Samsung released a teaser trailer for the Unpacked event, saying “something big is coming.” The video hints that a new mobile device is the featured announcement, and shows a decidedly curvy device as the climactic image. If you missed it, here’s the video –

  • Nexus Prime Release Teased With Unpacked Trailer?

Although it seems like the world will be wrapped up in Apple-land and iPhone 4S / 5 drama for the foreseeable future (and let’s face it, it probably will be), there is another big event on the horizon.

Samsung’s mobile event “Unpacked” is scheduled for next Tuesday, October 11th in San Diego. Invitations went out last week touting that this was the “Google Episode,” and saying that the event would give interested parties a “look at what’s new from Android.”

This has many speculating that the next Google smartphone, the Nexus Prime, is set to be unveiled at the event. The rumored device is said to come with a dual core processor, a huge 4.5 inch screen and 4G LTE.

The other big unveiling that might happen at this event – Ice Cream Sandwich, Android’s new OS. Ice Cream Sandwich will unify Android Gingerbread OS and Honeycomb OS, the mobile and tablet OS’ respectively. Many hope that that Nexus Prime will be announced as the first device running Ice Cream Sandwich.

On Tuesday, just hours after the Apple iPhone 4S event, this teaser trailer for the Unpacked event hit the interwebs –

Could the “something big” be the long-rumored Nexus Prime? Possibly a new tablet? Whatever it is, it definitely looks curved – way curved.

The YouTube comments show a pretty excited user base, most saying that this is most definitely the Nexus Prime. One commenter takes the opportunity to poke fun at yesterday’s Apple event and the 4S:

They were originally going to go with ‘Something INCREMENTAL is coming!’ but decided that would be moronic because why would anyone hype up some small incremental change?

In all seriousness, this event could be big for all involved – as Apple has just put all their cards on the table. With some disappointed with Apple for not unveiling an iPhone 5, could this be perfect timing for a giant Android event? We’ll just have to wait and see what they announce next Tuesday.

  • Nexus Prime, Ice Cream Sandwich Unveiling Set For October 11th?

An invitation has been circulating today for a Samsung Mobile Event called “Unpacked 2011.” Its subtitle is “The Google Episode,” and the invitation asks invitees to join them for an event to “get a look at what’s new from Android.”

The event is set to kick off on October 11th at 11:30 AM in San Diego.

It’s possible that this event could mark the unveiling of the next in the line of Nexus smartphones from Google, the rumored Nexus Prime. The unannounced device is said to sport a dual core processor, a giant screen (4.5+ inches) and have 4G capabilities. It’s thought that the phone will be launching on Verizon’s 4G network.

Of course, with the Nexus Prime would come Ice Cream Sandwich, the next generation of the Android OS and winner of the best operating system name ever award. The Nexus Prime is expected to be the first device to run Ice Cream Sandwich, which is billed as the unification of the Android Gingerbread OS and the Android Honeycomb OS, which are used for mobile and tablet devices respectively.

Eric Schmidt recently confirmed the imminent launch of Ice Cream Sandwich at the Dreamforce conference.

We have a new operating system, internally known as Ice Cream Sandwich for some reason, which is being released in October/November, which everyone’s really excited about.

October 11th would definitely fall in that time frame.

Another interesting thing about October 11th? It’s exactly a week after Apple’s big iPhone event that was just officially announced for October 4th. You think that’s a coincidence? Dream on. And let those dreams be filled with creamy, chocolatey, delicious ice cream sandwiches.

Apparently, Ice Cream Sandwich has been spotted in the wild, as a lucky eBay user discovered his new Nexus S was actually loaded with the new OS. He shot this video and sent it in the Engadget. He now claims that once the video hit the web, his phone was remotely wiped clean.
