Bill Cosby And NBC: New Show In The Works

Bill Cosby has signed on with NBC to develop a new 30-minute family sitcom. Fans of the Huxtables and their wholesome values can rejoice! Perhaps Bill Cosby can add something nice to the mix of shows that he isn’t really impressed with at the moment.

“I haven’t really been impressed with anything, because I’m 76 and 11/12ths years old,” Cosby admitted. “And I just don’t have a feeling to want to turn on the TV.”

Cosby said in a recent Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) that the show will be a multigenerational show and that it will be “wonderful”.

He also said of the show in a different interview, “I would love to lay out some of those wonderful thoughts that I have now (on parenting, families and marriage). People who I meet in the airport keep asking me: ‘When are you going to come back?’.”

Apparently it won’t be too long.

Bill Cosby said that a father recently told him that “when I saw Theo and Cliff and Clair, I laughed so hard. Now I’m a parent, and I’m still laughing as hard, but I’m on the other side of the table”.

Aren’t we all? Those of us who watched and appreciated the Cosbys when we were teens and younger will surely get valuable life lessons from the other side of the table in Cosby’s new show.

He says he even has his wardrobe ready. So, weird sweaters, then?

He points out that his new show will be different than what we normally see on T.V. these days.

“People say they love each other (on TV), they say they’re married and these things, but the way they talk to each other, it doesn’t sound like it. I don’t see anybody kissing! And the children are still a pain in the neck, with parents being afraid to say something to them,” he said.

Unfortunately, fans may have to wait. The show has been put on NBC’s “off-season development track,” which means the show wasn’t being developed for the fall TV season announced in May, but hopefully it will be on TV soon.

  • Ben Affleck and Matt Damon Comedy Pilot Picked Up by CBS

Famed Hollywood heart-throbs Ben Affleck and Matt Damon aren’t just acting in front of the cameras these days. They’ve taken on the role of screenwriters behind the scenes as well. After the Oscar-winning success of their first collaborative effort, “Good Will Hunting,” one can only expect impeccable quality from this dynamic duo.

Not only do they have an admirable ‘bromance’ that dates back more than 15 years, they also have unprecedented on-screen chemistry.

Now, they’re moving their creative ingenuity from the big screen to sitcom TV. Entertainment Weekly confirms that the two have struck a deal with CBS to produce a comedic sitcom entitled, “More Time with Family.

After a crucial bidding war, CBS landed the deal. However, 20th Century Fox also placed a put pilot deal on the table. The put pilot deal basically covers the show, stating that if CBS doesn’t approve the show for a full series, the network will be forced to pay penalties.

So far, the CBS network has ordered a pilot commitment for the sitcom, which will star comedian Tom Papa. In addition to screenwriting, Affleck and Damon will also serve as the executive producers for the project.

The half-hour sitcom will be produced through Pearl Street Films in conjunction with the network. Based on Matt Damon’s personal experiences with a glint of Papa’s stand-up humor, the dynamics they bring to the table will be the sitcom’s foundation. Papa portrays a man who undergoes new life experiences with career changes, leaving behind his life of continuous travel on the road to spend more quality time with his family.

  • “Walking Dead” Spinoff Announced

The zombie universe is getting ready to expand, and just in time for Halloween. The early phase of developing a spinoff series from AMC’s popular The Walking Dead is currently underway. Though the series is not set for airtime until 2015, the show will be the product of the same masterminds who brought the world The Walking Dead, which includes Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, and David Alpert.

According to AMC’s president, Charlie Collier, “Building on the success of the most popular show on television for adults 18-49 is literally a no-brainer. We look forward to working with Robert, Gale, and Dave again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters. It’s a big world and we can’t wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse.”

The new series will take place within the same worldview shown in the current zombie hit; however, a new cast of characters will be introduced instead of relying on shifting characters from the present popular series.

Fans are looking forward to the new show even though they will have to wait awhile before the first episode airs. Some fans have taken to Twitter in order to share their excitement about the news. Will the new show be able to continue the same fervor and following that The Walking Dead currently holds?
