  • Ex-NBA Player Banned After Choking Incident

Renaldo Balkman, a former player for the NBA‘s New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets, has been banned from the Philippine Basketball Association following an on-court incident.

According to a Reuters report, Balkman placed his hands around his teammate Arwind Santos’ neck as Santos tried to restrain Balkman’s anger over a disputed call.

In addition to the lifetime ban, the report states that Balkman was fined the equivalent of $6,100 over the choking.

As seen in the video of the incident below, Balkman also shoved teammates and coaches during his outburst:

Balkman and Santos were both playing for the Petron Blaze Boosters against the Alaska Aces. The Aces went on to win the game, 83 to 73.

Balkman has apologized for his actions via his Twitter account. He apologized specifically to Santos and said that he respects the Philippine Basketball Association’s decision:

  • Michael Jordan Marriage License Spotted in Florida

The Associated Press is reporting that former NBA star Michael Jordan has applied for a marriage license in Palm Beach County, Florida.

A spokesperson for the county clerk’s office told the AP that Jordan and his fiancée, Yvette Prieto, showed up at the courthouse on the morning of Thursday, March 7.

Jordan and Prieto, a Cuban-American model, have been a couple for some years now. The couple became engaged on Christmas Eve in 2011.

If the report is true, this would be Jordan’s second marriage. The basketball star married Juanita Vanoy in 1989, and the couple had three children, Jeffrey, Marcus, and Jasmine. The couple divorced in 2006, with a divorce settlement that was, at the time, the largest public divorce settlement on record according to Forbes.

  • Miami Heat Do the Harlem Shake, and It’s an Extended Cut

Yeah, I know. I KNOW, OK? But it’s the Heat and it’s a pretty good one…

Ah hell, you can send me hate email. Fine.

  • NBA: Sleeved Uniforms Announced For the Warriors

Adidas and the Golden State Warriors this week unveiled a new uniform with “modern” short sleeves. The uniform is also the team’s lightest uniform ever – 26% lighter than current Warriors uniforms.

“Players on every court like to have a unique sense of style,” said Lawrence Norman, vice president for adidas global basketball. “We were excited to work side-by-side for the last 18 months with the Warriors, one of the NBA’s youngest and most exciting teams, to develop this unique uniform system that helps maintain peak player performance while ensuring comfort, fit and style.”

Though range-of-motion would seem to be a concern with sleeves, adidas claims its has worked with players to develop the uniforms. The sleeves include armhole insets that are made of a stretch fabric. The company claims that movement in the jersey is equal to that found in normal tank-top style uniforms.

“When adidas began working with us to develop the short sleeve jersey, I couldn’t wait to wear it in a game,” said Harrison Barnes, Warriors forward. “I love the fit and style the sleeves give me on the court.”

The new uniforms will debut on February 22 during the Warriors’ game against the San Antonio Spurs. They will also be worn during two more home games this season: on March 8 against the Houston Rockets and on March 15 against the Chicago Bulls.

  • Airball Three Shots in Less Than a Minute, Then You Can Say You Had a Bad Day at Work

I know you hate you job, but at least you’re probably doing it better than Mirza Teletović did his on Wednesday night.

The Bosnian Brooklyn Nets player had a pretty rough 40-or-so seconds in last night’s game against the Detroit Pistons. On three consecutive trips down the floor, Teletović airballed a shot. Check it out:

Everyone has bad days – even Kobe Bryant. We worked out the calculation and Teletović still made about $500 in that 40-second span of airballs. So, you know, we really are the peanut gallery.

  • Steve Ballmer May Be Bringing the NBA Back to Seattle

Is Steve Ballmer about to bring the Sonics back to Seattle?

Yahoo Sports is reporting that a group led by Microsoft’s Ballmer and hedge-fund manager Chris Hansen is in the process of finalizing a deal with the Maloof family – owners of the ailing Sacramento Kings. The deal is reportedly for $500 million, and will see the franchise move to Seattle to play in the KeyArena as soon as next season.

It’s definitely not official, but one source said it was “first and goal at the 1.” So, a football reference suggests that this basketball deal will most likely move forward.

According to the report the deal, if finalized, could see the team set up in Seattle in time to play the 2013-14 season. Sources claim that NBA commissioner David Stern will be all too willing to help facilitate the move, if the sale goes through.

The Seattle Supersonics (or just Sonics) played their last game in 2008. The team was relocated to Oklahoma City following that season and now plays as the Oklahoma City Thunder. Under the agreement that facilitated that move, the Sonics’ nickname, logo, and colors were left available if someone just so happened to want to revive them…

And in steps Ballmer’s group, who according to the report will change the Kings’ logo and name back to the Sonics.

I can only imagine that Seattle residents will be thrilled to hear this news. With the same name, it’s almost like they can pick up right where they left off – almost.

Although we think that the Seattle Surfaces would have been a nice touch.

  • NBA Live 13 Canceled At The Last Minute

NBA Elite 11 has kind of turned into a big joke among the sports gaming community. EA Sports had hoped to reinvent the basketball franchise to take on 2K Sports’ immensely popular NBA 2K series. Needless to say, the project was canceled at the last minute. EA transferred the game to another team and gave them a year off to fix it for NBA Live 13. Turns out a year wasn’t enough.

EA Sports announced today that NBA Live 13 has been canceled. The decision came at the last minute, as was the case with NBA Elite 11. Andrew Wilson, Executive Vice President for EA Sports, said the decision was based on the quality of the product. He said that “it’s clear we won’t be ready by October,” the time when basketball video games are released.

This is the third year and the second cancelation that has hit EA Sports’ basketball simulation. The past three years have been dominated by 2K Sports’ critically acclaimed NBA 2K series. This year’s game, NBA 2K13, has many critics saying it’s the best game in the franchise yet. The game even has a playable 1992 Dream Team.

So what does the future hold for the NBA Live brand? Wilson says that the team is currently “delivering new innovation in online, and [their] progress in the visual presentation continues to take big strides.” He also acknowledges that gameplay is king, and that it remains a “huge priority” for the team at EA Tiburon.

Despite promises that the game will be out next year, it’s hard to trust EA anymore. Kotaku’s Owen Good makes an excellent point by saying that it will take a game of “surprising and undeniable quality” to build back the trust that EA Sports has lost as a brand today. We’ll now have to wait until next year to see if NBA Live is still a thing.

  • Jalen Rose Admits To Shocking On-Court Incident

Jalen Rose sat down for an interview with Dave Jacoby of Grantland.com and admitted that he made a shocking decision during a 2000 playoffs game.

Rose said he was having visible trouble keeping up with Kobe Bryant and felt tremendous pressure to step it up. What happened next was a spur-of-the moment decision that is now landing him in some controversy.

“Kobe Bean Bryant goes up for a jump shot out on the right wing,” Rose said. “I contest the jump shot. Kobe lands on my foot. He hobbles off and actually misses the next game. If it was up to me, he should’ve just missed the whole series. I would’ve had a championship ring and it would’ve been no harm, no foul.”

When Jacoby prodded Rose further about the incident, telling him not to lie, Rose admitted he might have put his foot under Bryant on purpose.

“I can’t say it was an accident,” he said.

Of course, it’s been several years since that fateful game, and the Lakers ended up beating the Pacers in that series anyway, but is there a statute of limitations on an admission of intentional foul play? Surely now that Bryant knows the injury was inflicted on purpose he’ll be upset, no matter what the outcome of the game was. And some are wondering what this will mean for Rose’s career, as he is a pretty successful NBA analyst.

There’s been no response yet from Bryant or Lakers management, but it’s hard to imagine that someone won’t come forward with a statement about Rose’s comments.

  • Dan Roundfield Dies at 59, NBA All-Star

Dan Roundfield Dies at 59, NBA All-Star

The basketball and sports community mourn today at the loss of a great and talented player, Dan Roundfield, who died on Monday, August 6th, 2012.

Dan Roundfield, a Detroit, Michigan native, was selected twice for Central Michigan University during his collegiate years, and played for the following teams in the NBA circuit:

    • 1975-1978 – Indiana Pacers
    • 1978-1984 – Atlanta Hawks
    • 1984-1985 – Detroit Pistons
    • 1985-1987 – Washington Bullets

After Roundfield’s career with the NBA, he moved to Turin, Italy, where he played basketball for Italy’s Auxilium Torino basketball team.

According to various sources, Dan Roundfield drowned while was swept away by a strong current, attempting to help his wife, while swimming off the southeastern tip of Aruba. This was reported by John Larmonie, a police spokesman on the southern Caribbean island.

Various fans of Roundfield have left their sympathies via Twitter:

  • Luol Deng, Chicago Bulls Forward, Joins Great Britain’s Olympic Team

Luol Deng, the professional basketball star who currently plays for the Chicago Bulls, is the only NBA baller to join Great Britain’s Olympic Team, according to Sports Illustrated. Although two other British-born players — Ben Gordon and Byron Mullens of the Charlotte Hornets — were expected to suit up alongside Deng this July, both men have opted out for various reasons. SI reports that Gordon failed to show up at the training camp in Houston by the scheduled deadline, while Mullens is currently recovering from an injury.

The squad, which also features Kieron Achara, Robert Archibald, Eric Boateng, Dan Clark, Luol Deng, Joel Freeland, Kyle Johnson, Andrew Lawrence, Mike Lenzly, Pops Mensah-Bonsu, Nate Reinking, and Andrew Sullivan, is particularly excited about the experience, as they’re members of the first basketball team to represent Britain at the Summer Olympics since 1948.

Deng, meanwhile, is particularly jazzed about the experience, and plans to make the country proud. “We have all worked very hard for this opportunity and to have the final 12 named is exciting,” Deng explained during a recent interview. “The next few weeks will fly by and I can’t wait to step on the court with my team-mates at the Games.”

The hotly-anticipated 2012 Summer Olympics begins on July 27th. Britain’s men’s basketball team is currently scheduled to play their first game on July 29th, though their first opponent has yet to be announced as of this writing.

If you’ve curious to read what folks on Twitter are saying about Deng’s contribution to the Olympic games, you can find a small assortment of Twitter reactions in the space provided below. From what I can gather, apparently a lot of people didn’t know he was British.

  • Jason Terry To Sign With The Boston Celtics, Twitter Doesn’t Miss Out

Jason Terry will no longer be a familiar face in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, well, except when the Boston Celtics come to town to play the Dallas Mavericks, Terry’s now-previous team. While the deal has not been finalized, the imminent signing is being reported in just about every legitimate sports outlet there is, including the sports section for Boston.com.

Once finalized, Terry’s deal with the Celtics will be for three years. According to reports, Terry will be receiving the Celtics’ midlevel exception rate; however, Boston.com was quick to issue a “not so fast” to Celtics fans lathering themselves up in anticipation:

One caveat to all this is that no deal is done. Free agents can’t be signed until the end of the NBA’s moratorium on July 11. ESPN’s Marc Stein confirmed the Yahoo! report but added a source told him Terry could go back to the Mavericks and use his deal with Boston as leverage.

As you might expect, Twitter was quick to react to the NBA news, something one should expect when one of the most-talked about teams signs a popular NBA player. Bonus: the Twitter trend brought the following gif of Jason Terry back to the forefront:

    (image)

So, are people feeling the (potential) Jason Terry signing or was this a reach by Danny Ainge? Does this mean the Celtics won’t re-sign Ray Allen? Inquiring minds want to know:

Considering the source of the last tweet, it’s something that deserves your attention, regardless of how badly you want Ray Allen in Miami.

  • Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Is Happy To Be Going To The Charlotte Bobcats

The Charlotte Bobcats took Kentucky’s Michael Kidd-Gilchrist in last night’s NBA Draft, and while the pick is being highly scrutinized across the webisphere, one thing cannot be mistaken: Kidd-Gilchrist is ready to face the challenge that awaits him in Charlotte. Apparently, the pick was a surprise, even to Gilchrist as the Bobcats kept their cards close to the vest.

    Quoth the Charlotte Observer:

“I’m just so happy right now, man. And I’m blessed. I’m blessed.” Apparently the Bobcats gave no advance warning to Kidd-Gilchrist that he was their man: “No. I was shocked at first.”

Kidd-Gilchrist let the world know how he felt about going to the Bobcats on his Twitter feed:

As for the reaction to the surprising pick, while national scribes were high on the pick, apparently, the local Charlotte Bobcats fans needed some convincing about the pick, something Tom Sorensen, the Observer’s sports/op-ed go-to guy, did quite quickly, and quite clearly:

As a UK fan, one that understands the holes the Bobcats have, even though Kidd-Gilchrist may not be the second coming of Michael Jordan (the player, not the owner), you won’t be disappointed in the player or his game. Offense in the NBA is all about getting the ball to the bucket, something Kidd-Gilchrist does with ease. And, he’s a finisher. A ferocious one if given a step:

While he may not be Jordan, don’t be surprised if resembles something similar to Scottie Pippen.

  • What Happens When NBA Ballers Play Soccer?

Steve Nash, aside from being one of the best known players in the NBA, is something of a soccer aficionado; and so, he holds annual soccer matches for charitable purposes with a mix of professional soccer and NBA players. While the soccer pros preform just fine, sometimes the NBA players go a little bit out of their comfort zone. The result?

Mike Dunleavy getting hit in the face by an Elton Brand shot attempt.

If you’re a Duke hater, it will only make an awesome video even more glorious. Just in case you miss it the first time through, fear not, the put Dunleavy’s face-ball on a little loop so you can relive it again and again:

As well-know sports blogger Matt Ufford said, this video is very necessary.

Over at Yahoo’s NBA blog, Ball Don’t Lie, Dan Devine has an even better take, courtesy of Dunleavy’s face:

That said, I’m having a really hard time envisioning an NBA player who is a more appropriate subject for this kind of story — I think Mike Dunleavy Jr. is easily the most “hit in the face by a soccer ball” player in today’s NBA. Who else would be in the running?

That’s a good question, actually. My vote would be for LeBron, but that’s because people still love to hate the reigning NBA Finals MVP. Other Duke players who should be up for consideration? The newly-drafted Austin Rivers.

Lastly, props to Google for using Dunleavy’s drunk pic as part of his Google Profile sidebar widget. That’s almost as good as their take on Lionel Richie.

  • Anthony Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Go One, Two, Make NBA Draft History

While last night’s NBA Draft featured a lot of manufactured drama from ESPN as they tried to create something of “Who will have the most picks? Kentucky or North Carolina” rivalry, the big story was when Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, both of the Kentucky Wildcats, went first and second in the draft, a first for the NBA and its storied history. That’s correct, the NBA has never had the top two picks in the Draft come from the same school, until now.

A quick look at the highlight reels for each player quickly reveals why both were such highly coveted prospects. I apologize in advance for any poor musical selections made by the producers:

For those who weren’t following the Draft, Davis was selected first by the New Orleans Hornets and Kidd-Gilchrist was selected second by the Charlotte Bobcats. The significance of the the one-two selection of two players from Kentucky was not lost on the Commonwealth, especially by head coach John Calipari, who wasted little time sharing his exuberance:

For those wondering how much each player will be making their first few years in the league, Darren Rovell’s got you covered here:

The bragging points continued for the league Kentucky belongs to, the SEC:

Calipari also let any potential recruits who might be listening know why it’s such a good idea for them to come to Kentucky:

“I don’t know what else you can add to our recruiting,” he said. “I just want to know, ‘How did you beat us on a kid?’”… “I just told you three years ago, ‘Let’s make this the gold standard,’” Calipari said in recalling the objective he set in his inaugural Big Blue Madness speech in 2009. “Let’s make this where every kid in America is growing up saying, ‘I want to play for Kentucky.’”… “In three years, we’ll have 10 percent of the league,” Calipari said with a touch of wonder in his voice.

Never miss an opportunity to strike the iron, especially if it’s hot, right Coach Cal?

  • Pat Cummings, Former NBA Star, Dead at 55

Pat Cummings, the forward/center who would lace-up with the Dallas Mavericks, the New York Knicks, and the Miami Heat, was found dead at a Greenwich Village apartment in New York on Tuesday afternoon. He was 55. The cause of death has yet to be determined.

Cummings was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania in July of 1956. After being drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks as a junior-eligible in 1978, Cummings would finally hit the court with the team in 1979. However, after three seasons, the 6-foot-9 player found himself being traded to the Dallas Mavericks for a pair of draft choices. Cummings soon became the franchise’s starting center, averaging 12.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.

Although the 1984-85 season saw Cummings achieving the highest scoring average of his career, the foot problems he’d been experiencing forced him to undergo surgery to remove bone spurs from his right ankle. Sadly, Pat would never be quite the same. He bounced between several teams before bidding farewell to the NBA in 1990. After a playing a few years with the Continental Basketball Association, Cummings bowed out of the game completely in 1993.

When all was said and done, he’d accrued 6,259 points, 3,825 rebounds, and 807 assists during his career. His death has not gone unnoticed amongst those who love every single aspect of the game. A handful of Twitter reactions to Cummings’ passing can be found below.

  • ESPN Either Sucks At RSS Or Is Really Committed To LeBron

As you might expect, for the past few hours, ESPN has been completely committed to LeBron James and the Miami Heat winning the NBA Championship. Move over, Euro 2012, this is King James’ house. I get that. What I don’t get, however, is why ESPN is spamming RSS readers with the same story over and over again. Maybe they really want the world to know LeBron finally won his ring. Or maybe they just suck at using RSS. You decide.

The reason for this article is because starting about 13 hours ago, ESPN has been submitting the same article with the same headline to their RSS feed. Again, there could be a couple of reasons for doing this, but even with additional evidence that suggests otherwise, I find it hard to believe the feed managers at Bristol, Connecticut are this bad at RSS. Take a look at the following screenshots and you’ll get an idea of what I’m talking about:

    (image)

For those of you keeping count, that’s six submissions of the same article, with the title of “LeBron, Heat throttle Thunder to win NBA title,” and yes, the link goes to the same page on ESPN every single time. But wait, there’s more where this came from:

    (image)

Making it a total nine times the same story has shown up in ESPN’s RSS feed. So what gives? Either ESPN isn’t very good at RSS or they really, really want the world to know that yes, LeBron James has finally won an NBA title. Considering the article’s lede–“The critics can stop now. King James is finally a champion.”–reads like ESPN has become LeBron’s biggest defender, and they’re willing to spam your RSS reader to prove it.

While there’s also evidence of ESPN not being that great at RSS:

    (image)

It’s more fun to believe ESPN has become the biggest LeBron defender the world has ever seen.

  • LeBron James Partied With LMFAO After Winning His Ring

Of course he did. I mean, what else is there to do in South Beach after bringing Miami another championship ring? Party with a throwaway party-rap collective that owes much of their success to a healthy dose of nepotism. No offense if party rap is your thing, but I can’t say I’m surprised by LeBron’s choice of post-championship celebration. It’s fitting, really, as is LeBron’s t-shirt of himself as a vampire.

Here’s a great look at the t-shirt in question, courtesy of WorldRedEye.com:

    (image)

No word if the LeBron vampire sparkles, ala Stephanie Meyer or if his version remains true to the vampire legend. Considering his love of The Hunger Games series, it wouldn’t surprise me if the LeBron vampire sparkled while trying to chase down Kristen Stewart’s Bella.

Anyway, after winning a title, it was time for LeBron to get his swerve on, Miami-style. What better way to do that than partying it up with LMFAO?

While the celebration is understood, in whatever way he wanted to do it, mind you, it hasn’t stopped some hate from showing up, especially in the YouTube comments. Some NSFW language is on the way:

Don’t these dickbags have families they should be celebrating with?

    ktoffelmire

And now, we’re playing the feud:

worked hard = quitting on your team go to something easier. yeah youre right.

    postshanna

No matter what he does, LeBron will never be able to win everyone over. Some, however, took issue with the t-shirt:

dude is wearing a shirt of himself. really?

    dcwj17

But some came to LeBron’s defense

I hate the Heat with a passion, but you need to get off they dick. The worked hard to get that chip, let them fucking celebrate and have fun

    HueyEscobar56

    And:

Jordan was partying to Ll Cool j when he got his rings, it just wasnt no youtube back in the day- Stop hating!

    MaineTechTV

So much for sports being a uniting force.

  • Everyone of Mike Miller’s Title-Clinching 3-Pointers

While the rest of the world congratulates LeBron James and the Miami Heat for winning the franchise’s second championship–and LeBron’s first–we should take a moment to recognize Mike Miller for his Game 5 marksmanship. In what wound up being the deciding game, Miller went 7-8 from behind the 3-point line, scoring 23 points in 23 minutes. While the Heat may have won Game 5 without Miller’s red-hot shooting–it felt like LeBron could take over whenever he wanted–if you subtract Miller’s contribution from the Heat’s 15-point win, there could very well be a Game 6 this weekend.

As it stands, Miller bombed and the Heat raised the Larry O’Brien Trophy. As those on the Internet are wont to do, someone (YouTube user kietasss) created a two-plus minute video of everyone of Miller’s 3-pointers:

It should be noted that before Game 5, Miller was 0-3 from behind the arc. For the series. What a difference 23 gameplay minutes make when it comes to building a legend. And what did Miller get for his awesome shooting prowess? An awkward handshake from ESPN’s Stuart Scott, who, for some reason, is still gainfully employed by the “Worldwide Leader:”

    (image)

As you might expect, Twitter was all over Miller’s performance:

Hang up if she does, Mike. You don’t need that drama. Just ask Kris Humphries if you’re unsure about what you should do in case she does get bored with Kanye and drops you a line, all of which are quite possible, considering the woman in question.

  • Who Do NBA Players Follow On Twitter?

Why, porn stars and big booty models, of course. What did you expect? For them to actually follow fans? To quote the Internet, “LOL. Yeah, right.” Armed with the knowledge that the NBA season could very well end tonight, the folks at Buzzfeed decided it would be good to turn their spotlight onto Twitter to see who some of your favorite NBA players follow. Because I covered something similar to this a few years ago, I’m not at all surprised, but for those of you who don’t know, you might be surprised to find these “role models” your kids look up to are no more mature than most 20-something men out there.

They just have a lot more money and are more apt to be followed back by whatever model they follow, thanks to their celebrity status.

It should come as no surprise that NBA players and porn stars are of the same ilk. Consider the #TeamBJNBA movement that’s currently underway, helmed by porn stars Sara Jay and Angelina Castro. If the Heat win the title, both ladies have promised to orally pleasure their followers. Hell, they even have a video to promote the thing:

While that’s not something I’d sign up for, you can tell by the YouTube comments a lot of people will be waiting, zipper in hand, if the Heat close out the Thunder tonight.

Anyway, seeing how Sara Jay has been front and center for much of this NBA/porn industry crossover, it would only make sense if her Twitter account was followed by some NBA players, and they didn’t disappoint:

    (image)

If you can’t see, the NBA players she’s followed by includes 2012 Rookie of the Year, Kyrie Irving, Amir Johnson, and Sherron Collins. As for Collins, considering he’s went to Kansas to play his college ball, it shouldn’t be too surprising he has a thing for porn stars. Just ask Samantha Ryan about that.

Moving on, Buzzfeed was good enough to screencap a few more Twitter accounts of both porn stars and big booty models, all to see which NBA players like reading their tweets. Here are a few more, starting with Sophie Dee:

    (image)

Our next contestant is someone named Tracy Rosentreter. If you Google her, you won’t find much, but if you Google her pseudonym–Paris Vixen–you’ll find out why NBA players are fans of her style. Among her followers is Kevin Durant, meaning Rosentreter is one of the winners of this particular competition:

    (image)

Over at Buzzfeed, there’s a lot more where that came from. Of course, in today’s day and age, professional athletes/celebrities following porn stars and big booty models is inconsequential, but if you were to ask someone from the old guard, they’d probably be mortified. Ch-ch-ch-changes, indeed.

  • Singing Mike Tyson Returns for Kevin Durant

Earlier this week, Mike Tyson made his singing debut on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show, singing something that resembled a heartfelt ballad to the current King of the NBA, LeBron James. Once the song hit the wires, good times were had by all as Mike Tyson serenaded the most talked about athlete this side of Tiger Woods. Since it was posted on YouTube, Tyson’s love song to LeBron James has received over a quarter of a million views, as people are apparently clamoring for more vocal mastery from the former heavyweight champion of the world.

And so, Tyson’s back again to entrall the world with the power of song. This time, Tyson’s song is dedicated to Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder; however, instead of hitting Durant with another slow jam, this time, Tyson kicks it up a notch with song that’s done to the tune of Motley Crue’s “Dr. Feelgood,” which allows the ex-boxer an opportunity to flex his ability to rock out.

My words don’t really do the song much justice, so let’s just show the damn thing:

    Pure and utter class, no?

It should be pointed that, since Tyson began singing these odes to players in the NBA Finals, the team his song is aimed at has lost the subsequent game. In his first video, Tyson sang for LeBron James and the Heat lost. Last night, the Oklahoma City home loss was preceded by Tyson’s tribute. Coincidence or is this just another NBA conspiracy?

As you might expect, the news of Tyson’s follow-up performance didn’t escape the ever-watchful eyes of Twitter:

Yoooo. I don’t think that could be considered rap, Kay. Nice try though. I’m sure Kimmel appreciates your viewership. Who’s next on Tyson’s list of people to be serenaded? Commissioner Stern? That would almost be too good to be true.

  • David Stern Clowns Jim Rome, Both Become Worldwide Trends

Jim Rome is fond of Jim Rome. This much is obvious. If you don’t see it, take a look at his head shots, like the one leading this article, and other straight-from-the-media-packet pictures that show up in a “Jim Rome” Google Image Search. In case you aren’t aware, Rome is something of a sports analyst, with shows on Fox Sports Radio and the new CBS Sports Network. One of Rome’s claim to fame is his interview style, which some may describe as combative. While that may be a stretch, confrontational is not.

Earlier today, Rome welcomed NBA Commissioner David Stern, who’s riding the wave of some record-breaking ratings for Game 1 of the NBA Finals. While a number of topics were discussed during Rome’s interview of Commissioner Stern, inevitably, especially when you consider Rome’s interview style, the topic of fixing the NBA Draft in favor of the New Orleans Hornets was brought up. Being the good interview that he is, Stern initially deflected the question with a simple “no” and “shame on you for asking.

However, when pressed by Rome, Stern pulled the big guns out, asking the host “did you stop beating your wife yet?” Some words of reaction come to mind:

“Ouch,” “Damn,” and “Oh my god, he went there on Rome?” for staters.

Rome responded to Stern’s quip by saying “now, that’s not fair,” (you can here the audio here and here) but from the Commissioner’s perspective, of course it is. Accusations of NBA Lottery fixing cannot and will not be taken lightly, regardless of how loud the feedback gets. Naturally, the sports-loving Twitter users out there jumped all over this like flies on dung, making not one, but two topics–Jim Rome and David Stern–Twitter Trend on a worldwide basis:

As you can see, some are criticizing Stern for not crushing the “softball question” Rome asked, while others, who are probably people who don’t like Rome, think Stern came out ahead. Whatever the case, I’m not sure what answer he was expected to give, besides no. Granted, the “do you still beat your wife” was a little unexpected, but from Stern’s point of view, the Draft-fixing question is just as absurd.
