  • Coyotes Changing Name In 2014-2015 Season

The Phoenix Coyotes are going to look a little different in the upcoming 2014-2015 season.

On Wednesday, Anthony LeBlanc, Coyotes Co-owner, President, and CEO, officially announced the team would be changing from the Phoenix Coyotes to the Arizona Coyotes. LeBlanc added that the change makes sense because the team didn’t actually play in Phoenix. The Coyotes rink, Jobing.com Arena is located outside of Phoenix in Glendale. This change will also allow them to be the state of Arizona’s team, not just one city’s team.

“We are very excited to announce that our franchise name will change to Arizona Coyotes for the start of the 2014-15 NHL season. Becoming the Arizona Coyotes makes sense for us since we play our games in Glendale and the city is such a great partner of ours. We also want to be recognized as not just the hockey team for Glendale or Phoenix, but the team for the entire state of Arizona and the Southwest. We hope that the name ‘Arizona’ will encourage more fans from all over the state, not just the valley, to embrace and support our team,” said LeBlanc.

While the name will change, the jerseys will basically look the same, except for a new shoulder patch which will be unveiled on the Coyotes first preseason game of the 2014-2015 NHL season.

The change had been expected for a while, since negotiations with the city of Glendale for a new lease agreement for the arena to be exact, but the firm date of Wednesday was a bit unexpected.

And as is common with most organizations today, the Coyotes took to their official Twitter account to make the announcement and changes expected for the team next season. (Looks like they’ll need to change their Twitter handle soon as well.)

  • Washington Bravehearts: A New Redskins Team?

While there has been much criticism and controversy over the name of the Washington Redskins team name, many people have wanted the name to be changed. The name change, of course, is up to Dan Snyder, the owner of the team. At least for now, the name of the bravehearts is not going to be their new name, and while it has created much buzz around Washington recently, it is simply a hoax.

The official reports are that Aris Mardirossian, a neighbor of Snyder’s has registered the name, Washington Bravehearts, for “entertainment in the nature of football games.” Despite being Snyder’s neighbor, it seems that the name is simply a coincidence, and the Redskins will not be changing their name, although some fans might want them to.

The record seems to have been set straight after a spokesman for the Redskins, Tony Wyllie, mentioned on Friday, “I just want to set the record straight for everyone listening, just to let you know that there is absolutely NO connection between the Washington Bravehearts and the person that registered that trademark, and the Washington Redskins.

Wyllie continued to say that Snyder does not even know this man, and that there is absolutely no connection between the Washington Bravehearts and the Washington Redskins. He urges fans not to worry when stating, “So I just want to let you know, Dan (doesn’t) know the man, so please, people, stop panicking, there’s no connection.” Were people panicking? It seems as if most people would be happy about the name change.

The Washington Bravehearts, while a good attempt at changing the name as some would believe, unfortunately will not be happening anytime soon. There is certainly plenty of support behind changing the name, with the United States congress even urging the team’s owner to change the name earlier this year. 10 members of Congress sent an open letter to Dan Snyder in May of this year.

As if Congress was not enough, President Obama also said that if he were the Redskins owner, he would think about changing the name.

Although Snyder has said that the team’s name will never change, plenty of people are rallying behind a change, including the Oneida tribe, who traveled to Washington to meet with NFL commissioner Roger Gooddell.

Do you think the owner of the Redskins should change the name? What would a better name be? Discuss here.

The Washington Bravehearts will definitely not be the new name of the NFL team, but is there a possible changes sometime in the future? Only time will tell.

  • ‘The War Z’ Renamed ‘Infestation: Survivor Stories’

Late last year, an alpha for a game called The War Z appeared on Steam. The game was incredibly similar to an ARMA II mod called DayZ, which had taken the PC community by storm in the summer of 2012. Both games featured open-world gameplay that required scavenging to survive while avoiding zombies and either teaming up with, avoiding, or killing other players for their supplies.

Many DayZ players felt slighted, believing that the developers of The War Z had quickly put together a zombie survival mmo to cash in on the trend, with even a name meant to confuse gamers. When it came to light that some of the claims about The War Z made it its Steam description were untrue, a flood of negative press flooded onto the internet. The game was pulled from Steam shortly after.

Now, the creators of The War Z have been forced to change the game’s name. The re-branded title is Infestation: Survival Stories. It’s unclear whether the previous name was changed because it conflicted with the DayZ name, or if the impending release of the summer blockbuster World War Z may have something to do with it.

The name change was announced on the forums at the now-Infestation-branded website. The only changes to the game, developers claim, is a logo change. The announcement, in full:

    Greetings Survivors!

Effective today, The War Z has changed its name to Infestation: Survivor Stories. This change has come about primarily as a result of some confusion and trademark issues with a similarly titled property. While we were reluctant to rename the game so long after launch, especially with nearly 1 million registered players, it was ultimately decided to be in the best interest of our existing community as well as future players in order to eliminate confusion. Please rest assured that this will in NO WAY affect you as players. The only difference you will see is the change in logo and website. There will be no interruption of service or change in content.

So, welcome to Infestation: Survivor Stories – have fun and stay alive!

The creators of DayZ have not commented on Infestation, continuing the silence that they largely held to during The War Z incident last fall. The creator of the DayZ mod, Dean “Rocket” Hall, has been given a small team at Bohemia Interactive, and is currently developing a stand-alone version of the game.

  • Charlie Sheen Changes Name For Upcoming Film ‘Machete Kills’

Since his inaugural Hollywood appearance in Red Dawn, and even before that, Charlie Sheen has used his changed name in every movie or television show he’s appeared in. This will change with his role in the campy, action film sequel ‘Machete Kills’. He’s embracing his latino heritage, by using the moniker Carlos Estevez, his birth name.

The history of the Estevez/Sheen names is quite interesting. Martin Sheen was born Ramon Antonio Gerardo Estevez. He changed his name to Martin Sheen to have a better chance at getting work as an actor, however, he never officially changed his name. This led to all four of his children to adopt the Estevez surname. Charlie Sheen kept his original name into his teen years, and ended up changing it for the same reason as his father, to try and get acting work.

Sheen will use his birth name for the first time in his long acting career. We don’t know yet whether or not he will use his birth name in future films or if this is a one shot deal.

Carlos Estevez joins a stacked cast, with Danny Trejo, Amber Heard, Mel Gibson, Sofia Vergara, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Antonio Banderas, Cuba Gooding Jr., and more.

Machete Kills looks to take the camp to the next level, as proven by the IMDB plot summary – “The U.S. government recruits Machete to battle his way through Mexico in order to take down an arms dealer who looks to launch a weapon into space.

Really, the film could be about anything if they give Sofia Vergara chest guns. Which they have. The movie is set to release September 13th.
