  • Octomom’s Welfare Fraud Is Punished With Probation

    Nadya Suleman, better known as “Octomom”, has evaded jail time after pleading no contest in response to four felony charges, including welfare fraud and perjury.

    The mother of 14 found herself in hot water after collecting thousands of dollars in public assistance from the state of California while not declaring income earned through cashing in on her fame.

    Activities included paid public appearances, topless dancing, and even making an adult film. Suleman was at the same time collecting welfare checks, insisting that she wasn’t bringing in enough income to support herself and her numerous children.

    There was an investigation launched following an anonymous tip and Suleman was charged in January.

    The 39-year-old settled the case after paying back $26,000 to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services and California Department of Health Care Services.

    This is close to the approximately $30,000 that Suleman is said to have earned during the first half of 2013.

    If Suleman had disclosed the amount of money she earned upfront, then she would not have been eligible to receive public assistance.

    Suleman paid the money as part of a plea deal, which allows her to avoid serving time in prison. Instead “Octomom” was sentenced to two years of probation and must serve 200 hours of community service.

    Suleman first rose to fame when in 2009 she successfully gave birth to octuplets (eight children at once). Amazement gave way to public outcry when it was learned that Suleman already was the mother of several children that she could not afford.

    It was widely believed that “Octomom” had given birth the extra children for the sake of fame and fortune.

    Since becoming a Z-list celebrity, Suleman has attempted to use her notoriety to earn enough money to support herself and her many children.

    Unfortunately for Suleman, she made too much money for the public assistance. Since paying back the money, many wonder whether or not the single mother of more than a dozen will have the means to care for her children after all.

  • Octomom Nadya Suleman Enters ‘Not Guilty’ Plea

    Octomom Nadya Suleman says she’s not guilty of the welfare fraud she’s been charged with, and she pleaded as such in a California court room on Tuesday. The mother of 14 children is charged with failing to reveal her earnings–some of which came from starring in a pornographic film during which she masturbated–while continuing to accept and cash welfare checks. Authorities say she owes the state of California around $26,000.

    Suleman agreed to waive her right to a trial. She will return to court again on April 16th for yet another hearing.

    “We’re doing discovery, we’re investigating the case and then we’ll be back to talk to the district attorney to see if this can be resolved,” Suleman’s attorney, Arthur J. LaCilento, said outside of the court room.

    Octomom is dubbed as such because she gave birth to octuplets she conceived after having fertility treatments when she already had six children at home. She was barely able to support the kids she had, but believed she’d be on cashing in once the babies were born. She expected to land a book or movie deal the way Jon and Kate Gosselin did. Their hit show Jon and Kate Plus 8 kept them in diapers and food for their eight children for several years.

    Stardom didn’t pan out for Suleman, however, so she took to making porn films and recently even danced on a stripper’s pole at a bar in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida region in order to earn some income. This is likely also part of the income she failed to tell the state of Calfornia that she earned.

    Many people have questioned of late what kind of job the Octomom is doing in raising those 14 children. It certainly doesn’t sound like she’s setting a very good example for them by working in the porn industry or defrauding state government.

    If convicted she could spend over six years in a state prison. Who will care for those 14 children if that happens?

  • Nadya Suleman Charged With Fourth Count Of Welfare Fraud

    “Octomom” Nadya Suleman is back in the headlines today. She’s now facing a new charge of welfare fraud, bringing the total number of charges against her to 4.

    The 38-year-old mother of 14 children, eight of whom are octuplets, has been accused by prosecutors of not declaring money she earned last year as a topless dancer and porn actress.

    The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office is seeking $26, 000 in restitution after filing charges that Suleman received $10, 000 in medical benefits that she did not qualify for. Prosecutors also claim that she received $16, 481 in welfare payments for the first half of 2013 that she would have not received had she disclosed the almost $30, 000 she earned during that period of time.

    Suleman is facing six years and four months prison time if found guilty of two counts of aid by misrepresentation and two counts of perjury by false application for aid.

    However, Deputy District Attorney William Clark believes it’s unlikely that she will serve any jail time.”She’s got 14 children. We’ll try and work out a deal for her,” he told reporters.

    The “Octomom” has been plagued by ongoing financial problems stemming from her struggle to provide for her exceptionally large family. As recently as 2010, she defaulted on payments for a house she bought and it went into foreclosure.

    In 2009, Nadya Denise Doud-Suleman became internationally famous after giving birth to octuplets. Her octuplets are only the second full set of to be born alive in the United States. All 14 of her children were conceived via in vitro fertilization.

    After giving birth, public reaction to her turned negative when it was discovered that she had already had six children, was unemployed and was also receiving public assistance.

    Suleman pleaded not guilty to the initial charges of welfare fraud. She is expected to appear in court on March 11 where she will be arraigned on the amended charges.

  • Nadya Suleman: New Welfare Fraud Charge for Octomom

    Nadya Suleman–a.k.a. the Octomom–was charged with a fourth count of welfare fraud on Wednesday stemming from her collection of an additional $10,000 in benefits from the state of California.

    Suleman–a single mom of 14–was charged in January with three counts of welfare fraud that stemmed from not disclosing approximately $30,000 in personal appearance and video (porn tape) income when she applied for state benefits. She could serve up to six years in jail if convicted for these crimes.

    Suleman pleaded not guilty to last month’s charges as seen in the video clip above. Her lawyer has yet to issue a statement regarding Wednesday’s additional charge.

    Nadya Suleman became known as the Octomom when she had eight babies via in vitro fertilization back in January of 2009. She was already the mother of six children. Suleman apparently believed she would strike gold having that many babies at once–expecting offers for book deals and a reality TV show. Very little of that ever materialized and now the Octomom finds herself a mother of fourteen who can barely keep food on the table and a roof over her children’s heads. She has stooped to a number of lows–claiming they were her attempts to make money for her family–like creating a porn video and dancing in a Florida strip club. It appears far more likely, however, that she has done these things as the result of a sick drive to put herself into the public eye.

    Suleman is indeed in the public eye once again, and this week it’s for one more count of welfare fraud. Deputy District Attorney William Clark says it’s even unlikely that she’ll serve jail time because of her situation at home.

    “She’s got 14 children. We’ll try and work out a deal for her,” he said after Nadya Suleman was charged the first time.

    It’s truly a wonder that no one has stepped in and removed Nadya Suleman’s 14 children from her custody. They have lived in squalor and behavioral issues have cropped up–especially in her oldest son. Hopefully this won’t wind up as a case where the state should have looked a bit closer into the children’s situations–and deemed their welfare far more important than the welfare fraud.

  • California Octomom – Guilty Of Welfare Fraud?

    The story of Nadya Suleman, appropriately named “Octomom” because she gave birth to octuplets in 2009, conceived through in-vitro fertilization, made headline news when the birth occurred. She is the mother to 14 children that include the octuplets.

    She received a lot of notoriety, mostly because some people were outraged that she would attempt to have more children after already having six at home.

    Now, Suleman has been charged with welfare fraud, the Los Angeles district attorney’s office said Monday. She is accused of neglecting to report almost $30,000 that she earned from media appearances and royalties when she applied for public assistance last year.

    The complaint alleges that Suleman illegally received over $16,000 through the welfare program, $6,667 from the CalWorks financial assistance program and $9,814 from the CalFresh food aid program during the first six months of 2013.

    The charges, per the District Attorney’s Office, consist of a single count of aid by misrepresentation and two counts of perjury by false application for aid.

    The LA County District Attorney’s office has said Suleman did not report earnings from personal appearances and residuals from videos for the first six months of 2013.

    Consequently, she faces up to five years and eight months in prison if convicted.

    Since their birth, Suleman, a single mom, has claimed she struggles to make ends meet, attempting a singing career and releasing a pornographic video.

    Deputy District Attorney Bill Clark said following the arraignment that the case will go to disposition court and authorities will do whatever they can to avoid going to trial.

  • ‘Octomom’ Nadya Suleman Due In Court, Pleads Not Guilty To Fraud Charges

    On Friday, Jan. 17, “Octomom” Nadya Suleman pleaded not guilty to welfare fraud after being charged with failure to report earnings when she applied for public assistance benefits.

    According to Yahoo! News, the 38-year-old mother of 14 was released after an arraignment in Los Angeles County Superior Court for three counts of welfare fraud. However, she has been ordered to report to the L.A County Early Disposition Court on Feb. 3. Deputy District Attorney Bill Clark stated that authorities are making an attempt with this particular alternative in an effort to resolve the matter without a trial.

    “If she can pay the money back, that makes a big difference,” said Clark of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said.

    Sulman initially filed for welfare in January of 2013. Since the approval of her application, Octomom has received a total of $16,481 from CalWorks financial assistance program and CalFresh food aid program during the first six months of 2013. Authorities also stated the forms of income that Suleman failed to disclose. The undisclosed income amounted to approximately $30,000.

    “While applying for public aid, the mother of 14 children allegedly failed to disclose that she was also getting checks for personal appearances and residuals from videos,” said Clark. “She allegedly failed to report the extra income she earned between Jan. 1, 2013, and June 30, 2013.”

    “She was running short on money. She went to the Los Angeles County Department of Social Services and asked for food stamps,” D.A. Clark told reporters outside court. “And they gave them to her.” However, Clark also stated that once Suleman started receiving public assistance, authorities received a number of calls from sources reporting that she was actually earning money while receiving benefits.

    Although she may have qualified to receive some form of public assistance, authorities are certain she would not have been approved for the $16,481 she actually received.

    Suleman is being charged with one count of aid by misrepresentation, and two counts of perjury by false application. If convicted, she could be facing five years and eight months in prison. However, Clark indicated that she probably wouldn’t spend any time behind bars.

    “She’s got 14 children. We’ll try and work out a deal for her,” he said.

    Nadya Suleman, better known as “Octomom,” is making headlines again, but this time it isn’t for eviction or for starring in a pornographic movie. The mom to 14 kids is being accused of welfare fraud. Suleman will appear before a Los Angeles County judge on Friday for her arraignment. If she is eventually found guilty, she could face more than five years in prison.

    According to Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey, “While applying for public aid, the mother of 14 children allegedly failed to disclose that she was also getting checks for personal appearances and residuals from videos.” Suleman reportedly failed to claim almost $30,000 in earnings on her adult work in her welfare application. She is being charged with “one count of aid by misrepresentation and two counts of perjury by false application for aid.”

    The criminal complaint obtained by KTLA says that Suleman “illegally gained about $16,500 in aid from CalWORKs and CalFresh during the first half of 2013.” Nadya Suleman hasn’t released a statement on the charges, so it’s unclear whether the failure to report the additional revenue was simply an oversight or if she intentionally omitted the income for fear that she would lose at least part of her public assistance benefits.

    As you likely remember from the media storm that surrounded the octuplets, this isn’t the first time Suleman has been the center of welfare controversy. Suleman had six children prior to conceiving the octuplets, and it was later uncovered that the California mom was already receiving public assistance before getting pregnant again. Even though Suleman was able to get off welfare for a time, she went back on welfare in January of 2013. Suleman reportedly began receiving $2,800 per month for food and emergency cash, as well as medical and dental benefits.

  • Nadya “Octomom” Suleman Charged With Welfare Fraud By L.A. County Prosecutors

    Nadya Suleman, who became known as “Octomom” after she gave birth to eight kids, was charged Monday with 3 counts of welfare fraud after failing to report nearly $30,000 in earnings she collected from public assistance, authorities said.

    According to CBS Los Angeles, Suleman was charged on Jan. 6 with two counts of perjury by false application and one count of aid by misrepresentation. She allegedly failed to disclose that she earned income from “videos” she made when applying for public aid. She also failed to report the extra income she earned for public appearances between January and July of last year.

    The L.A. County district attorney’s office said Suleman was ordered to appear in court on Friday. The 38-year-old mother of 14 children was not immediately taken into custody but if convicted, Suleman could spend up to five years and eight months in jail.

    Suleman was not immediately available to comment on the matter.

    On Jan. 26, 2009, Suleman gave birth to octuplets after already being a mother of 6 at the time. All of her 14 children were conceived through vitro fertility treatments. Many wonder why someone would choose to have so many children but the decision was not entirely hers. Dr. Michael Kamrava, Suleman’s physician at the time, was revealed to have implanted 12 embryos in her womb; the mistake led him to lose his medical license. Fortunately, all her octuplets are alive; making them the world’s longest surviving set.

    The single mother has faced financial troubles in the past, including foreclosure and bankruptcy. She has also had to resort to online date auctions, endorsing birth control for pets, making porn videos and asking for donations to raise money for her extensive family.

    Prosecutors are expected to ask for bail to be set at $25,000 when she is arraigned in court on Friday.

    Nadya Suleman, known also as the Octomom for having 8 babies conceived via IVF when she already couldn’t support her six existing children, has been charged with welfare fraud. Under investigation for months, she has been charged with defrauding the system by failing to report more than $30,000 in earnings.

    Natalie Denise Suleman–her real name–was charged on January 6th with “one count of aid by misrepresentation and two counts of perjury by false application for aid.” She applied for public assistance in Lancaster, California in January 2013.

    “While applying for public aid, the mother of 14 children allegedly failed to disclose that she was also getting checks for personal appearances and residuals from videos. She allegedly failed to report the extra income she earned between Jan. 1, 2013, and June 30, 2013,” a rep from the L.A. District Attorney’s Office said.

    Suleman has been evicted from at least one home. In one it appeared she and her children lived in squalor. She has made pornographic videos for pay and she danced at a strip joint in Florida to earn money and as an attempt to cast herself into the limelight. Nadya Suleman believed that after giving birth to her eight babies she fast become a wanted personality with appearances on TV shows, talk shows and offers of endorsements for books and films. Very little of that ever panned out–leaving Suleman and her children to live less than comfortable lives.

    Nadya Suleman will be arraigned in L.A. on Friday. If she is convicted for welfare fraud she faces a minimum of five years in jail. Some no doubt believe that might be a blessing in disguise for her fourteen children–to whom it seems she hasn’t been much of an upstanding maternal figure.

    It seems that Nadya Suleman believes she is in danger of being forgotten. The ‘Octomom’, best known for giving birth to octuplets in 2009, is featured this week in new pictures featured in In Touch magazine. The photos depict the single mom in clothing made famous by actress Angelina Jolie.

    Nadya told In Touch that Jolie is her idol, though she states that Jolie, who has six children, has it “easy.” Suleman has fourteen children.

    In January 2013 it was reported that Suleman is on welfare after a rocky 2012. Last summer the ‘Octomom’ starred in a solo porn movie titled Octomom Home Alone, which features Suleman masturbating. Around the same time, Suleman appeared at a strip club in Florida to pay her bills. She was admitted to rehab in October, reportedly for an addiction to prescription Xanax.

    Suleman is presumed to be doing well after her October stint in rehab for an addiction to prescription Xanax pills. The mother of octuplets–who will turn 4 this month–earned notoriety for being the single mother of so many children, then used it to her advantage by signing up for porn and stripping gigs.

    Octomom Nadya Suleman’s oldest son, Elijah, has asked for his mom’s help in filing a restraining order against an ex-nanny, alleging that she is spreading false stories about him to tabloids which are damaging to his character.

    Gina Bryson has reportedly told various media outlets that Elijah was caught sexually molesting his younger sisters and frequently watches porn; Suleman is in the process of filing two more complaints against the woman on behalf of some of her other children, saying they have all been harassed by phone calls or text messages from the woman.

    Bryson has been ordered to stay at least 100 feet from Elijah and is prohibited from contacting him.

    Suleman recently relocated her family of 14 to a nice new home, which she proudly showed off in a video, perhaps to silence her detractors after an acquaintance went to the media with reports–and photos–concerning her old home and how unkempt it was.

    Nadya Suleman, a.k.a. Octomom, recently showed off the new digs she acquired after earning some cash doing solo porn, and the house is surprisingly clean and well-kept, considering what her old home looked like.

    Suleman says she’s trying hard to make her 14 children responsible for their own messes and is setting down rules for the new home, including no eating anywhere other than the kitchen and a strict rule against markers and crayons in the house. The home is sparsely furnished, allowing the children plenty of room to play and spread out. Suleman says that despite a rocky year, she’s enjoying her time with her children and being able to provide them with a clean, stable living environment.

    “You know what?” she said. “When you hit rock bottom you realize what you have to be most grateful for, and boy am I grateful for every moment…in all of their lives, everything.”

    Suleman came under fire when photos of her old home were posted online by a guest, saying it was mostly due to her autistic son, who was seven at the time, being wild and destroying things. She seems assured that the change can only be good for her family, and hopefully it will be; the home is a rental.

    Octomom Nadya Suleman was originally scheduled to perform at a little joint called T’s Lounge, a strip club in West Palm Beach, Florida. However, a seemingly harmeless news report featuring quotes from a few of the establishment’s employees apparently rubbed her the wrong way, causing her to bail on the show. A lawsuit promptly ensued, though this didn’t stop the infamous mother from taking her routine to another venue. Finally, after months of anticipation, it appeared that folks were going to see Suleman in all her glory.

    On Friday, the Octomom took most of her clothes off at Playhouse South, where she awkwardly performed a show that involved the wonky removal of her PVC outfit. Despite the pending lawsuit from T’s Lounge — they claim they had an exclusive engagement with Suleman — she took to the stage anyway, though, according to reports, her routine was less than impressive. At one point, someone had to make their way on-stage to help Nadya remove her gloves.

    “She’s really stiff,” one stripper explained to ABC News, “Oh my God, she can’t dance. But it’s good for the rest of us girls because she made it a busy Friday night.”

    Nearly 400 people showed up to see the Octomom in action, which netted the wanna-be provocateur $5,000. This, of course, is in addition to the money she made selling photographs and T-shirts, the latter of which contained the phrase “I saw Octomom naked at the Playhouse South.” I guess everyone needs something to be proud of.

    Nadya Suleman, the not-so-secret identity of media darling the Octomom, is once again making waves in a seemingly endless attempt to stay in the press. This time around, Suleman is claiming her recent flight aboard a Virgin America airliner was nothing short of a nightmare. In fact, it wasn’t some loud, obnoxious child or a “Words with Friends”-obsessed celebrity that caused her such endless turmoil. No, it was the flight crew itself, and Suleman is apparently none too pleased about the whole unpleasant ordeal.

    The Octomom’s manager, Gina Rodriguez, recently told TMZ that the crew never gave them beverages, asked them change seats, laughed at them behind their back, and even kicked Rodriguez out of the bathroom for reasons that still remain unclear. When Suleman’s manager attempted to address the problem with the staff, things got dicey, with someone reportedly shouting, “I know who you guys are!”

    “I was shocked to say the least how poorly they treated me on the plane. I would never book a flight on Virgin America again,” Suleman told TMZ.

    Virgin, of course, has a completely different version of the tale. A representative from the company stated that the pair were extremely difficult to contain, and refused to obey safety regulations. As for the bathroom incident, Virgin states that Rodriguez was attempting to do her business as the plane preparing to land. If the flight crew hadn’t kicked her out when they did, landing would have been delayed. This isn’t Virgin’s rule — this is straight from the FAA.

    In other Octomom news, Suleman is reportedly dating amateur body builder Frankie G, whom she met at church. “Obviously she has a lot of kids,” he said in a recent interview.

  • Octomom Doesn’t Want to Take Her Clothes Off in Florida Anymore

    Octomom Nadya Suleman was scheduled to disrobe on-stage at a Florida strip club next month, though it would appear that the mother of 14 is no longer interested in showing off what the Good Lord gave her. TMZ reports that Suleman was none too pleased about T’s Lounge employees referring to her as “a little crazy”. So incensed was she by this statement that Suleman has refused to honor her end of the contract. Unfortunately for her, she may not have much of a choice in the matter. Unless, of course, she wants yet another lawsuit knocking on her front door.

    The West Palm Beach strip joint has retained the services of a lawyer to issue an ultimatum: get on stage and do your thing or face the wrath of the legal system. Suleman, meanwhile, claims that she has no interest in performing at the club anymore. In fact, she’s planning a lawsuit of her own in retaliation for the defamatory remarks levied against her.

    “Nadya will not be appearing at this club in July or in the future,” the Octomom’s representative explained. “Nadya felt defamed and was in fear for her life to step into a club where they have already set a negative tone.” In fear for her life? Negative tone? Sounds like cold feet to me.

    This whole stripping ordeal is yet another bump in the road for Suleman. According to TMZ, the house she’s living in recently entered foreclosure after Nadya stopped giving the property’s owner, Amer Haddadin, money for the mortgage payments. As a result, the house went to auction, though no one was willing to pony up the $355,643 to purchase it. The result: the house now belongs to the bank. Eviction proceedings will surely be underway soon.

    If nothing else, at least she still has some porn money to look forward to. Maybe.

    Octomom Nadya Suleman is back in the news again. Is that really so surprising? She’s kind of like that pesky cold sore that just won’t go away. Now, it would seem, Suleman is claiming that she was “set up” by her hairdresser, who, upon seeing the supposedly disgusting condition of the Octomom’s house, took photos and turned her in to authorities.

    Suleman recently spoke to Good Morning America in an attempt to clear her name and set the record straight. At this point, I think people have already made up their minds about the mother of 14, so I’m honestly not sure what, if anything, she hopes to accomplish by telling her story on national television.

    “I think, maybe, me and my kids were set up,” she explained in the interview. “We were set up.”

    Suleman went on to discuss the contents of these controversial photos, which include a picture of a door held shut by a chair placed beneath the knob. This, she explained, was done to prevent her kids from coming in and out of the room constantly while she was receiving her Brazilian blow-out. Speaking of which, the Octomom claims that this fee included haircuts for everyone in the family, herself included. Truthfully, this kind of makes sense, and the thought had actually crossed my mind when I first heard about this “story” earlier in the week.

    However, last time I checked, barber colleges across the nation will cut hair for next to nothing. Something to consider if you’re relying on government assistance. Just a thought.

    “I am making money, though. I have jobs and I can afford it,” Suleman said in her defense.

    Regarding her half-naked children using the bathroom outside: The toilet inside was busted, forcing her brood to use the potty outside. The plumbing, she claims, was corrected as soon as possible.

    In other words, everything has been taken out of context. The barricaded door, the half-naked potty party in the backyard, the expensive price of her haircut — everything. Unfortunately, the damage to her reputation was said and done a while back, so I’m not entirely sure why she feels the need to address every single allegation.

  • Octomom Investigated by Police: Twitter Reacts

    Octomom Nadya Suleman can’t seem to catch a break. When she’s not being openly ridiculed by comedians, bloggers, and those who spend an embarrassing amount of time on social networking sites, the world’s most hated mother is dealing with the pressures of everyday life. In this case, everyday life involves carrying for 14 children. That’s enough to give anyone a year’s worth of waking nightmares.

    Of course, you could say that she brought all of this nonsense upon herself. Recent Octomom-sanctioned activities include posing nude and applying for government assistance, though it would seem that she’s added a new pastime to her extremely hectic schedule: unfit mother.

    According to E! Online, Suleman had been under investigation by the La Habra Police Department after receiving a tip for a woman who claimed the Octomom wasn’t properly caring for all of her offspring. This, of course, shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, since people have speculated about her skills as a mother as soon as her name starting popping up in the media. However, since the police department has to take these claims seriously, a proper look into her life was necessary to determine if the allegations were, in fact, true.

    Turns out there’s really nothing wrong with the way Octomom is caring for her litter of offspring. Her kids, as well as her home, were all a-okay. However, it’s probably only a matter of time before someone else claims that Suleman is being a terrible mother. Wherever she goes, trouble seems to follow close behind.

    For instance, TMZ is reporting that Suleman is quick to drop insane amounts of cash on haircuts. Like I said, if it’s not one thing, chances are it will be another.

    After becoming a mother, many women’s wardrobe become more conservative and they prefer to make love with the lights off. However, Nadya Sulman, the “Octomom,” remains unfazed after giving birth to 14 children. She even brags that she doesn’t have to watch what she eats to remain a size 8.

    She recently posed half nude for Closer magazine — she wore nude colored panties and covered her large 34 DD breasts with her cupped hands while gazing at the camera with a goofy visage.

    Suleman is clearly in love with herself and claims that she doesn’t require the company of a man: “Men love me- but I will be celibate for the next 15 years.”
