  • My Little Pony Backpack Banned Due to Bullying

A My Little Pony backpack is at the center of what has become a national firestorm, reviving the ever-present issue of bullying. 9-year-old Grayson Bruce of Buncombe County, N.C. was banned from bringing the backpack to school after it became a “distraction” and caused him to become an object of torment, according to ABC.

“The principal told me that we could no longer bring the bag to school,” Grayson’s mother, Noreen Bruce, said. “That he as a principal had the right to ban anything that he believed was a distraction.”

Whether or not the principal took the right course of action or simply the path of least resistance is the controversy. Should he have held yet another assembly on bullying, sought out and punished the bullies, or perhaps nothing at all?

Noreen Bruce says that Grayson is not the one who should be punished here. “Saying a lunchbox is a trigger for bullying is like saying a short skirt is a trigger for rape. It’s flawed logic.”

The reaction has triggered an incredible amount of support for Grayson, like the 50,000 likes on the “Support for Grayson” Facebook page. There is also a Change.org petition reaching more than 10,000 signatures and counting, calling for the school to allow Grayson to bring his Pony backpack.

“It made me feel devastated,” Grayson said of the fiasco he has endured. “I didn’t think I was going to get the reaction that I got.”

He was so devastated that he is now homeschooled for the time being, where he is allowed to bring whatever backpack he chooses. Is banning the backpack the answer? Should mama have perhaps warned her little man that the backpack would probably garner unwanted attention and ask if he was prepared to deal with it? And if his answer was in the affirmative, let him deal with it with his head held high?

As parents, we are often faced with difficult decisions when it comes to raising kids, as this situation has shown. There are many opinions out there as to what the correct course of action would be, but one thing is for certain. There is a ton of support out there for Grayson and his right to Pony it up. What is your opinion on the matter?

  • My Little Pony Backpack Banned By School

Some schools have strict rules about backpacks and some don’t. The elementary schools in Buncombe County, N.C. don’t have such strict rules and students can choose to use the backpack of their choice as long as it doesn’t display offensive images or profanity. One school however seems to have something against My Little Pony and told a 9 year old boy that he was not allowed to wear his My Little Pony backpack to school any longer.

According to the boy’s mom, the school told her the backpack was a trigger for bullying and was disrupting the classroom and school hallways. The young boy, Grayson, had been having problems with bullies harassing him and making rude comments to and about him in class.

Grayson’s mom realized that something was going on when Grayson stopped wanting to go to school and would even refuse to get out of the car when she would drive him there. She asked the school guidance counselor for help and the school decided that the backpack was the problem.

“One of her suggestions was to hide it,” Grayson’s mom said. “She said that if you have something like this you’re asking for trouble.” Later, the principal called and told her to keep the backpack at home.

Grayson’s mom said she felt that the school was missing the point. “I said, ‘You’re missing the picture here. You’re telling him that it’s OK for them to make fun of him,” she said.

The bullying continued and got so bad that one child told Grayson to go home and kill himself. It was then that his mother decided to homeschool him. While Grayson may not have to deal with the bullying anymore, his mother is planning a meeting with school’s superintendent Thursday to talk about the incident and determine if anything can be done about the bullies so Grayson can return to school.

Grayson’s mother is hoping the school will find out who is responsible for bullying Grayson and see how the staff could have handled the situation better. Grayson’s mother and two of her friends created a Facebook page where people can leave encouraging comments to Grayson and other children who have been bullied or are being bullied.

How do you think the school should have handled the situation?

  • Tumblr Invaded By Worm Affecting Thousands Of Blogs

Reports have been rampant today about a worm spreading on Tumblr, taking over thousands of accounts.

Tumblr addressed the issue twice on Twitter: once to let everyone know they were aware of the issue, and a second time to say that the issue had been resolved:

Update: Tumblr has now posted to its staff blog:

This morning, some of you may have noticed a spam post appearing repeatedly on your Dashboard and on the blogs of a few thousand affected accounts. We quickly identified the source, removed the posts, and restored service to normal.

No accounts have been compromised, and you don’t need to take any further action.

Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience. As always, we are going to great lengths to make sure this type of abuse does not happen again.

The worm brought with it a message about a “GNAA Video” post. TheNextWeb reports:

So, what is the GNAA? The acronym stands for the Gay N***** Association of America, an anti-blogging Internet trolling organization. One of the member’s Twitter accounts points to the bronies Tumblr tag as a way to keep track of all the blogs being affected. The latest count is over 8,600 uniques.

Meanwhile, ComputerWorld reports on an Instagram vulnerability on iPHone, which allows for accounts to be taken over.

  • Visit Equestria With My Little Pony Games Hitting Mobile Later This Year

It was announced a while ago that Zynga and Hasbro had entered into a partnership to bring some of Zynga’s more famous games to life via board games and toys. Many people thought that the partnership would go both ways with Zynga making games based on established Hasbro franchises. Turns out that was not the case with Gameloft announcing their own partnership today.

Gameloft announced today that they have entered into an agreement with Hasbro to create games based on the company’s Littlest Pet Shop and My Little Pony brands. The games will be out before the end of the year and will be hitting all the major mobile platforms like Android, iPhone and iPad.

“Creating highly inventive and accessible digital play experiences based on our world-class brands continues to be at the core of Hasbro’s mission and we envision Gameloft to be a key player in the ongoing execution of that global strategy,” said Mark Blecher, Senior Vice President of Digital Media and Marketing at Hasbro. “This agreement brings together Hasbro’s powerhouse girls’ brands with one of the industry’s preeminent mobile game developers which will take My Little Pony and Littlest Pet Shop play to an entirely new level of fun.”

A Gameloft representative confirmed with us that the developer’s My Little Pony game will be based off of the runaway success that has been My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. That news alone should be enough to get the little girls (and bronies) everywhere excited about the possibilities of games based on their favorite franchise.

As Gameloft is gearing up on game development for these franchises, might I suggest a few fan-made games that they should draw inspiration from.

My Little Pony: Fighting Is Magic

    PonyKart

    My Little Investigations

See Gameloft, the fan base has already done your work for you. You could release any of these on any platform and they would probably sell at least a few hundred thousand in a day. If the Bronycon Kickstarter can reach its goal in a day, Gameloft can make bank on any potential My Little Pony game if it respects the franchise and the fan base.

  • Skyrim Meets My Little Pony In The Most Delightful Of Ways

Bronies across the country today are now waking up to the realization that we have to wait until September for the third season of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. To make that wait a little less brutal, have some quality Skyrim meets My Little Pony fun. We’ve already seen what happens when you cross ponies with the darker fantasy worlds of other franchises like Game of Thrones, but this one is a little different.

It’s no surprise that the modding scene has exploded in Skyrim with everything from texture overhauls to custom armor to nude mods for those people who want to kill dragons in their birthday suits. There might not be anything quite as weird (or awesome), however, as a mod that gives your player My Little Pony armor and weapons. There’s just something cathartic about wearing a helmet in the visage of Pinkie Pie as you slay harmless villagers with a Pinkie Pie sword.

The video below is the best explanation of the mod in question. What you get is a wonderful mashup of Pinkie’s song “Smile, Smile, Smile” as she mercilessly slaughters everything in her path. It’s like a Cupcakes film made in Skyrim. The only thing we need now is a Pinkamena Diane Pie helmet mod to make this terrible serial killer film complete.

If you would like to get your hands on this wonderful bastardization of all things Skyrim and My Little Pony, check out the download link at Skryim Nexus. Oh, and remember to smile as your mercilessly ravaging the countryside of Skyrim.

    Hasbro Brings Cartoons to Netflix

Hasbro Studios has just partnered with Netflix for a multi-year deal, bringing ten cartoon franchises to the content streaming platform’s Just For Kids section.

Later in the year, JEM & The Holograms, Transformers: Generation 1, G.I. Joe: Real American Heroes, Transformers: Beast Wars and Transformers: Rescue Bots will be available.

Below is a sample of the “delightfully fast-paced, song-filled adventures” of “Chuck & Friends:”

And finally, Hasbro will resurrect JEM & The Holograms on Netflix in the coming months. The migraine-inducing theme song can be heard in the video below:

Just recently, Netflix lost some of their Just For Kids content in Canada for a short time, due to a licensing issue.

  • Game Of Thrones Invaded By My Little Pony

Game Of Thrones Invaded By My Little Pony

The hotly anticipated second season of Game of Thrones premiers tonight on HBO. Fans have come to expect big things from the series, but what if this season was slightly off? What if George R. R. Martin’s universe was invaded by ponies?

As you all know, “Game of Thrones” is an epic fantasy that is sometimes dark and sometimes violent, but it’s always entertaining. It’s highly regarded as one of the best fantasy universes ever created and fans the world over are captivated by the political intrigue and characters that make up R. R. Martin’s universe.

Then you have “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic,” the 2010 reboot of the Hasbro brand that has created a similarly large fanbase of grown men called bronies. They love the series for its slick animation, ageless appeal and sometimes off the wall humor.

YouTube user adecoy95 has decided to mash up the two properties in a fitting tribute to both. He “ponifies” the Game of Thrones opening into a video that is 20 percent cooler than all the rest. Your mileage may vary as the sight of replacing characters from “Game of Thrones” may send you into fits, but I think the majority of nerds can appreciate it. For those that find mash up offensive to their nerd cred, check out today’s Foxtrot comic. It’s written just for those who would kill if Game of Thrones ever came under the rule of ponies.

This isn’t the first time, however, that fantasy and My Little Pony have been mashed up to stellar results. Here’s some of our favorites:
