  • Naughty Dog Details Latest Patch, Map Pack For The Last Of Us

It’s been a while since Naughty Dog’s excellent The Last of Us hit store shelves, but it’s not like the game has become any less relevant. In fact, thousands of gamers are hitting up the game’s multiplayer mode everyday and Naughty Dog has a little something for those players.

Last night, Naughty Dog released two updates for The Last of Us. The first is patch 1.05 that adds a number of balance tweaks and other bug fixes to the multiplayer portion of the game. You can check that out below:

The other update is a brand new map pack called Abandoned Territories. It adds four new maps from across post-epidemic America – Bookstore, Suburbs, Bus Depot and Hometown. All four maps open up new strategic play methods in all of the game’s multiplayer modes.

Both the patch and the map pack are available now. The map pack will run you the standard $9.99, or you can purchase the season pass for $19.99 to get this first map pack now and the next two map packs upon their release.

  • Call Of Duty: Ghosts Is Overhauling How It Handles Clans

Clans are an integral part of any multiplayer FPS experience. As such, Call of Duty: Ghosts will obviously integrate clan support into its multiplayer component. The game will be introducing some new elements to its clan support though.

Check out how Clans is an integral part of the Call of Duty: Ghosts’ multiplayer experience. This year introduces new breakthroughs, including the Call of Duty Clan Wars game experience, and cross-platform Clans — where players can now join a Clan with friends regardless of whether they play on Xbox, PlayStation or Windows PC, and level-up their Clan to earn exclusive unlocks and multiplayer XP bonuses.

The big addition here is cross-platform clan support. Most clans are still probably going to all be on the same platform, but it’s nice to know that players on one platform can help out clan members on another platform. It would be even nicer if Infinity Ward could add cross-platform play, but that’s a pipe dream that will never happen until the traditional console dies.

It’s pretty obvious that Infinity Ward is overhauling clan support in an attempt to make Call of Duty more desirable within the eSport community. It just might work too as more and more people hop on Twitch and other streaming platforms to watch multiplayer matches.

If you’re interested in setting up a clan, you have until October 25 to create or reserve a clan name at Call of Duty’s official clan site. Activision will release an official Call of Duty app on November 5 that will help you keep track of your clan’s progress and set up matches against other clans.

  • Call Of Duty: Ghosts Will Have Dedicated Servers On All Platforms

A game like Call of Duty doesn’t just need dedicated servers – it requires them. Unfortunately, dedicated server support has been spotty over the past few games, with the console versions of Modern Warfare 3 not supporting them. Infinity Ward’s latest game will not repeat the same mistake.

Mark Rubin, Executive Producer at Infinity Ward, took to Twitter on Monday to announce that Call of Duty: Ghosts would have dedicated server support on every platform:

I wanted to give a quick update on some of the work that has been done to improve everyone’s online experience. We’ve already mentioned dedicated servers as part of the overall plan to improve connectivity. Dedicated servers will be used on current gen, next gen and PC with Ghosts. And, in order to make sure that people have the best possible experience regardless of platform, location or connection, Ghosts will be using a hybrid system of dedicated servers and listen servers. So no matter where you are the game will always be trying to give you the best online performance possible. There is also some great new tech in the matchmaking system that will place players in matches that have the best combined overall connectivity performance. Again these are just some of the things that are going into Call of Duty: Ghosts to give players a great online experience. Can’t wait to see you all online.

This is great news for the Call of Duty fan, and shooter fans in general. Supporting dedicated servers on every platform is a big undertaking, but one that fans deserve. Hopefully this translates to more developers adding dedicated server support to their games in the future.

And what of Call of Duty: Ghosts primary rival – Battlefield 4? Well, DICE is doing some interesting things with dedicated servers that you’ll want to check out here.

  • Splinter Cell Blacklist Homeland DLC Detailed In Trailer

Splinter Cell Blacklist released earlier this summer to rave reviews with many saying it was a return to form after the past few outings with Sam Fisher proved to be somewhat controversial among fans. One reason for this was the return of a co-op mode that was more like what fans saw in the universally praised Chaos Theory.

Speaking of which, fans who pre-ordered Blacklist were treated to two exclusive co-op maps – Dead Coast and Billionaire’s Yacht. Now those two maps are available to all as part of the Homeland DLC pack.

The DLC pack, which costs $6.99, also comes with four gear pieces, four suits for the Spies vs Mercs multiplayer mode, and one new weapon – a crossbow with sleep gas darts.

The Homeland DLC pack is available now on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC.

  • Battlefield 4 Will Have 10 Multiplayer Maps At Launch

Map variety is perhaps one of the most important aspects of any multiplayer shooter. Sure, gameplay still reigns supreme, but a limited selection of maps would ensure that things get boring very fast. That’s why it’s reassuring to learn that DICE is launching Battlefield 4 with plenty of maps.

On Friday, DICE announced that Battlefield 4 will have 10 multiplayer maps when it ships on October 29. That’s already a lot of maps, but it’s even more impressive when you take the size of Battlefield maps into consideration. These are maps intended for 64 players on PC and next-gen consoles. It’s going to take players weeks, if not months, to find all the hidden nooks and crannies in such large maps.

As part of the announcement, DICE announced the final map – Zavod 311 – and released a list of the 10 maps players will have access to at launch.

Starting with the new map, DICE says that Zavod 311 is set in a Soviet tank factory from the Cold War era that has been overrun with foliage. What makes the map interesting is that it contains an undetonated warhead that can be activated to destroy part of the map to open up new areas.

Here’s the first image of the map (courtesy of the Battlefield blog):

BF4 Will Have 10 Multiplayer maps at launch

As for the rest, here’s all 10 maps that will be available at launch:

  • Siege of Shanghai
  • Paracel Storm
  • Zavod 311
  • Lancang Dam
  • Flood Zone
  • Rogue Transmission
  • Hainan Resort
  • Dawnbreaker
  • Operation Locker
  • Golmud Railway
  • Of course, more maps will be added to the game over the course of its lifetime. EA and DICE have already announced Battlefield 4 Premium – a season pass that will net you each of the game’s planned DLC expansions two weeks before they launch for everybody else.

If you want more Battlefield 4 multiplayer goodness, check out the latest trailer that was released earlier this month.

  • Of Course Killzone: Shadow Fall Will Have A DLC Season Pass

The next generation of consoles will bring with it a lot of changes – better graphics, social integration and live streaming to name a few. One thing that won’t change, however, is the game industry’s relentless pursuit to make you pay for DLC before it even comes out.

Sony announced today that it would be continuing the tradition started by L.A. Noire with the Killzone: Shadow Fall season pass. But wait, isn’t Guerilla making all multiplayer map packs free in the latest Killzone? That’s true, but Guerilla never said anything about non-competitive multiplayer content. After all, most shooters these days have a co-op component as well.

Here’s all the stuff that Killzone: Shadow Fall players will get if they choose to buy the season pass:

    Online co-op expansion pack
Focusing on team play and intense combat, the online co-op expansion pack adds a new co-operative game mode in which you and up to three online friends must survive against impossible odds. Fight waves upon waves of enemies in four new arena maps, featuring a unique leveling system and new unlocks.

    Three online co-op map packs
Each map pack consists of two brand-new arena maps you can play in co-op mode with your friends. Please note that these arena maps will only work with the online co-op expansion pack.

    Two additional multiplayer expansion packs
We’ll reveal more about these additional multiplayer expansion packs when Killzone Shadow Fall’s launch date nears. Suffice to say they’ll offer many hours of additional multiplayer thrills!

Sony also notes that those who buy the season pass on day one will receive an “exclusive OWL combat drone skin and a unique Multiplayer Spotlight move”

We may never be able to escape the specter of paid DLC or the season pass, but Killzone: Shadow Fall is handling it pretty well. Getting free multiplayer map packs while having to pay for the co-op mode seems like a pretty fair trade off to me.

If the season pass seems like something you’d be interested in, it will be available to purchase alongside Killzone: Shadow Fall on November 15 for $19.99.

Oh, and while you’re here, you might want to check out the latest multiplayer trailer for Killzone: Shadow Fall. It might help you decide if the season pass is worth it:

  • Here’s Some Assassin’s Creed IV Multiplayer Gameplay

Starting with Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Ubisoft introduced multiplayer into the franchise in an attempt to convince people to hold onto their copies of the game. As the franchise has evolved from then, so has its multiplayer. Now with Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Ubisoft is further refining the franchise’s mulitplayer.

In a new trailer released today, Ubisoft shows off some mulitplayer gameplay from its latest Assassin’s Creed title. Like in past games, players be tasked with stalking and taking down other players as they hide in plain sight among crowds of NPCs.

The latest trailer doesn’t show off any new modes, but it does show off some of the new environments players will be competing in. The jungle environments look to be the most impressive as far as scale is concerned, and the multitude of trees should give players plenty of places to hide in.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag launches on October 29 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U. The PS4 version will launch on November 15, and the Xbox One version launches on November 22. There’s still no set release date for the PC version, but it’s expected in November as well.

  • The Last Of Us Gets A New Multiplayer Mode

The Last of Us remains in many gamers’ minds as one of the best single-player experiences of the year. It also sports a competent multiplayer mode that Naughty Dog is starting to expand with new modes.

Sony announced that the latest patch, version 1.03, for The Last of Us includes a new multiplayer mode called Interrogation. Unlike other games that are content in charging players for new modes, this new mode is entirely free.

The new mode is called Interrogation, and it’s pretty unique among multiplayer mode. The mode requires players to interrogate five opposing players to find out where that team’s lockbox is. After that, players will then have to unlock the opposing team’s lockbox to gain access to their supplies.

Naughty Dog has said that it has more DLC planned for The Last of Us so don’t expect the new multiplayer mode to be the end of new content. In fact, we should be seeing a nice combination of single player and multiplayer content going forward.

For a full breakdown of all the new content in the latest patch, check out the Naughty Dog’s Web site.

  • Battlefield 4 Video Shows Us Multiplayer, Ultra Graphics

Say what you will about Dice/EA’s upcoming sequel to their successful Battlefield series, especially when the latest iteration is still popular with the gamer community, the developers certainly now how to make a good looking game. Take this latest video, for instance. While short, it offers a look at the multiplayer aspect of things, and while those who are familiar with Battlefield 4 probably won’t see anything new, it should provide some reassurance that they haven’t screwed anything up, at least that’s how it looks.

The bursts of gameplay viewers are treated looks to be centralized around the same Shanghai high rise that was gloriously taken down in the E3 trailer. Much like the Metro map became the mainstay for BF3 players, it would not be surprising to see the “Siege of Shanghai” map gain the same kind of popularity. It should be noted the video is not from EA or Dice. Instead, it was made by GamesHQMedia (YouTube page), and their reason for showcasing the video was to demonstrate how BF4 will look with the graphical settings turned up to Ultra, which brings up two things:

First, you’ll have to select the 1080p option to enjoy the crisp graphics, and second, as VG247 points out:

The video looks rather slick but since Youtube can only run videos at 30 FPS, some of its visual prowess is lost.

Battlefield 4 will be available on just about every major console/gaming device you can imagine on October 29, including the PS3 and 4; the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One; and for PCs.

  • Check Out Some More Multiplayer From God of War: Ascension

God of War: Ascension comes out next week, and you’d be forgiven if you forgot the game had a multiplayer mode. Most of the press leading up to the game’s release has been focused on the traditional single player campaign without much attention being given to this new gameplay element.

To correct that oversight, Sony has been sharing some videos over the past few days that help to show what players will be getting themselves into once God of War: Ascension launches next week on March 12. The first is a look at Poseidon and how pledging allegiance to him will help players overcome their enemies in multiplayer battles:

Up next is a look at the new Trial of the Gods mode. In previous games, this was a simple extra mode that allowed players to take on challenges against increasingly tougher enemies to unlock rewards for use in the main game. In Ascension, players can now take on these challenges with a co-op partner, or go it alone.

Finally, here’s a look at three of the multiplayer maps that will be shipping with the game:

  • Uncharted 3 Multiplayer Goes Free To Play This Week

In the past, Sony has experimented with free to play by making Killzone 3’s multiplayer free to play to a certain point. The experiment must have worked pretty well because Sony is now offering the multiplayer component from Uncharted 3 for free.

Naughty Dog announced that Uncharted 3 will be broken up into parts and sold separately from each other on the PSN starting today. That means players will be able to play the multiplayer experience separately from the singleplayer experience, or they can buy it all in one big pack. The big change, of course, is that multiplayer is going free to play with some freemium elements thrown in for good measure.

So, how is this gonna work? Naughty Dog says that everybody can play multiplayer for free, no strings attached, up until level 15. After that, the game will continue to keep track of your experience points if you wish to upgrade to the next level cap. According to Joystiq, upgrading to level 25 will cost $5 and removing the level cap entirely will cost $20.

Here’s all the extra add-ons players can buy to augment the free-to-play experience:

  • Uncharted 3: Multiplayer Co-op Adventure Add On – Unlocks Co-Op Adventure mode including the Fort Adventure DLC
  • Uncharted 3: Multiplayer Co-op Arena Add On – Unlocks to gain access to the Co-Op Arena Playlist including the Co-Op Shade Survival Mode DLC for Uncharted 3: Multiplayer Free to Play
  • Uncharted 3: Multiplayer Competitive MP (No Level Limit) – Removes the level cap for Uncharted 3: Multiplayer Free to Play
  • Uncharted 3: Multiplayer Competitive MP (Level 25 Limit) – Removes the Level 15 cap and allows you to play Uncharted 3: Multiplayer Free to Play up to Level 25
  • Uncharted 3: Multiplayer Split Screen Add On – Unlocks Co-Op Adventure mode including the Fort Adventure DLC
  • Uncharted 3: Multiplayer DLC Map Packs – Unlocks all three DLC map packs released for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Includes Flashback Map Pack 1, Flashback Map Pack 2, and Drake’s Deception Map Pack
  • Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Single Player Experience – Uncover the Truth. Unlock the Single Player campaign
  • Those who already purchased Uncharted 3 will be given a special Naughty Dog Paw on their rank icon as well as a special Naughty Dog Paw shirt for their in-game character.

Naughty Dog also promises that more than 40 additional DLC items will be added to the game in the coming months. Here’s hoping one of them is a Donut Drake skin that’s easier to unlock.

Sony says its next console will accomodate all business models, including free to play, so it’s better to start experimenting in the field now. Uncharted 3 should prove to be an excellent test field to see how well a free to play game performs on consoles.

  • Halo 4 Trailer Released For New Map Pack

Halo 4 Trailer Released For New Map Pack

Though it’s often baffling that the shooter genre has spawned the most successful console franchises, a little observations could reveal why. Game franchises such as Call of Duty and Borderlands are well-supported by their developers and new content is being released for the titles on a nearly bi-monthly basis. Now, this could be a chicken-and-the-egg problem of which came first, but new, quality DLC certainly has helped shooter titles emerge as the most popular video games of this console generation.

Today, 343 Studios detailed its new multiplayer map pack for Halo 4. The “Majestic Map Pack” will launch next week, on Monday, February 25. Instead of the sprawling vehicle-filled maps Halo players got with the last map pack, these new maps will be “small to medium sized.” The pack will also come with new multiplayer playlists and the new “Infinity Rumble” game type.

The “Landfall” map will be set in the ruins of Tribute’s capital city and encourages close-range combat while providing plenty of “jump routes.”

The “Monolith” map features man-cannons and “open sightlines” that 343 states “harkens back to more classic Halo arana-based maps.”

The “Skyline” map is a small rooftop arena that offers lots of cover, but also has “explosive fuel cells” that can be exploited.

  • Halo 4 Crimson Map Pack Coming December 10

343 Industries is certainly determined to support the Halo 4 multiplayer community. In addition to the weekly updates and story videos that accompany the game’s Spartan Ops mode, it appears that map packs for more standard multiplayer modes are coming as scheduled.

Today 343 and Microsoft announced that the first Halo 4 map pack, Crimson, will be launching on December 10. The DLC will cose 800 Microsoft Points and contains three new maps: Wreckage, Harvest, and Shatter. Those who purchased the Halo 4 map pass or purchased the Limited Edition version of the game will be able to download the DLC as soon as it is available. Two more map packs will be released in February and April.

Wreckage is a medium-sized, asymmetrical map created for objective gameplay. It’s styled as a crash site, with debris littering the landscape.

Harvest is a small to medium sized map created for Capture the Flag gameplay. Its name comes from Halo backstory as the planet where humans made first contact with the Covenant.

Shatter is a large, symmetrical map made for tooling around on vehicles. The UNSC mining facility it is set in allows up to 16 players to compete in Infinity Slayer.

Shatter was also created with a new multiplayer mode, Extraction, in mind. The new mode features two teams of 5 players racing to plant a beacon and protect it for a certain amount of time. Extraction will show up in Halo 4 matchmaking alongside the Crimson map pack on December 10.

  • New Far Cry 3 Trailer Shows Multiplayer Action

With its open, sandbox-style single player campaign, Far Cry 3 looks to provide an explosive experience for players come December. The multiplayer modes, on the other hand, look to provide players with a chance to rub their success into the ashes of their opponents.

The new Far Cry 3 multiplayer trailer gives a good overview of what players can expect. Much like the multiplayer modes on almost every first person shooter released in the last two years, the latest Far Cry features experience points that players can earn to level up and try out new weapons, equipment, and skills.

Among those powers are included “team support weapons,” such as barrel bombs and psyche gas, both of which are dropped from planes to, in turn, burn or disorient the enemy team.

Another interesting inclusion is a multiplayer mode called “Firestorm.” The objective is to simultaneously set fire to two enemy nodes, then make a break for a radio transmitter while the level burns down around everyone.

  • Medal of Honor Warfighter Multiplayer Launch Trailer Released

Though the Battlefield and Call of Duty franchises seem to be the two sides gamers are taking in the war for multiplayer war-simulation supremacy, there are other first person shooters with entertaining multiplayer. Sure, there’s going to be Halo 4 in a few weeks, but there’s also EA’s other modern war game, Medal of Honor Warfighter.

Much like Battlefield and Call of Duty, Medal of Honor began as a World War II shooter. As killing Nazi’s has fallen out of vogue, the franchise has followed others in updating its war simulation to reflect modern (meaning brown and dusty) combat.

Today, Danger Close and EA released a multiplayer launch trailer for Warfighter. It looks nearly identical to the other war-simulation multiplayer modes in the gaming world, complete with lens flares. That’s probably a good thing, though, since those are the types of games that are currently selling millions of copies.

The real question players will have about Warfighter‘s multiplayer is how fun it is. Are the maps and weapons balanced? Are the perks useful? Is the ranking system worth grinding away at? If the answer to these questions is yes, Medal of Honor Warfighter could have a chance to compete with Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

  • Assassin’s Creed III Multiplayer Trailer Revealed

Early this morning I had a terrible thought. It had been four days since Ubisoft posted the last trailer for Assassin’s Creed III, and I was beginning to get worried. Had something happened to the Ubisoft marketing team? Worse yet, had they run out of new footage to show us? Have we seen the entire game already?

My mind can rest easy now, as Ubisoft today revealed yet another Assassin’s Creed III trailer. This one features a preview of the game’s multiplayer modes.

The game will feature classic multiplayer modes such as deathmatch, but will also have a wolf pack co-op mode and a team-based domination mode. Wolf pack has players team up to find and assassinate enemies throughout a map before a timer runs out. Domination is a capture the hill-type mode where teams capture territories and hold them against enemy teams.

Check out the trailer below to catch a glimpse of the varied multiplayer maps, character models, abilities, and perks included with the game:

  • New Halo 4 Trailer Shows Off Mech Multiplayer Mayhem

Everyone’s second-favorite Halo multiplayer map is back, along with a surprising new addition.

A new trailer released this weekend by Microsoft and 343 Industries shows off Halo 4‘s re-imagining of the classic Halo 3 map Valhalla. The map appears to be very similar to the Halo 3 version, staying very close to the original layout.

The real change in gameplay on the map is likely to come from the new vehicle 343 Industries is introducing: the Mantis. Players will get the chance to live out their mech suit fantasies this fall, when they slip into Halo 4‘s new walking tank. The Mantis is a mech suit equipped with what appears to be a gatling gun and laser cannon. The video, shown below, also demonstrates that the Mantis will have a stomp attack to take out any pesky vehicles or spartans underfoot.

Did you catch the Mantis teabagging at the end of the trailer? It seems 343 industries might actually be the huge Halo fans they profess to be.

  • Take Back Earth In Latest Mass Effect 3 DLC

People seem to really enjoy the multi-player component in Mass Effect 3. I wouldn’t know as I still have yet to play the game, but general consensus is that it’s great fun. Free DLC packs definitely help make things more fun and BioWare is continuing to spread the love with a new DLC pack hitting next week.

The pack is called Earth and, surprise, takes place on the big blueberry that we call home. As has been the case since the beginning, the story behind the multiplayer is still all about taking back key locations from the Reapers around the galaxy. Considering that an invasion of Earth played prominently in the ad campaign for the game, it only makes sense to have it show up in multi-player.

Take Back Earth In Latest Mass Effect 3 DLC

So what will Mass Effect 3: Earth contain? Players will be able to access three new weapons – Piranha assault shotgun, Acolyte pistol, and the Typhoon assault rifle. On top of that, seven new human N7 classes will become available – Destroyer Soldier, Paladin Sentinel, Demolisher Engineer, Slayer Vanguard, Shadow Infiltrator, and Fury Adept. Each class features new abilities and melee attacks for players to try out.

The three maps that players will fight for Earth on include Firebase Rio, Vancouver and London. They will be available to play as soon as the pack is downloaded. Everything else, including weapons and characters, will be unlocked through existing Reinforcement packs.

Take Back Earth In Latest Mass Effect 3 DLC

Mass Effect 3: Earth will be available worldwide on Xbox 360 and PC on July 17. It will launch on July 17 on PS3 in North America and July 18 in Europe. As always, the multiplayer packs are free so no reason not to at least try it out.

  • Minecraft 1.3 Tears Down The Barrier Between Single Player and Multi-Player

The times where I do have fun with Minecraft is when I’m on a multi-player server with some friends. The single player experience is a little too lonely for my tastes, although I do understand the appeal of staving off hordes of zombies by yourself. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on tastes, there won’t be a difference between the two anymore.

Mojang announced version 1.3 of Minecraft today and have a lot of new features in store. The biggest feature is the merging of single player and multi-player into one. You can still play single player of course, but it’s now “a shell on top of multi-player.”

Before you all you single player survivalists grab the pitchforks and torches, Mojang has two very good reasons for doing this. The first is that it helps the modding API developers since they only have to create one mod and it works across both versions. The second is that whenever they want to push a bug fix, it fixes both versions of the game simultaneously.

Beyond that, Mojang have detailed the massive amount of content that will be coming to game with newest version. Up first is the usual bug fixes and refinements. People on multi-player servers should expect a “smoother and more stable experience.”

The merger of single player and multi-player has also brought about a secondary change that will be of particular delight to some players. The worlds in which players have created on their own can now be shared with friends on the same local network. Single-player gamers can also use multi-player commands if cheats are enabled.

As for awesome gameplay additions, players can now mine for emeralds and emerald ore. On top of that, players can also now trade with villagers. The team also added in the ability to write in books and leave messages for other players.

To help new players or those who just don’t like the slow beginning to a new Minecraft world, you can now start with a “bonus chest” that will contain all the beginning requirements to start building a world. On top of that, they have also added tripwire for new trap possibilities.

Here’s the rest of the amazing wonders you’ll find in the update:

We’ve also added new stairs, new half-slabs, cocoa plants and tweaked dispensers, leaves, cauldrons, levers, gravel, pressure plates, cookies, buckets, boats, minecarts, ice, furnaces… Plus you get magic orbs from mining and smelting (and not just killing monsters)!

Unfortunately, all of these amazing wonders must come at a price. The newly merged single player/multi-player has upped the game’s system requirements for all players. While I would hope that most people have a system capable of playing Minecraft, I assume some players have really shoddy 10-year-old laptops that barely play Minecraft. They hope to have a fix for those low-end players by Minecraft version 1.4.

Speaking of version 1.4, the team has also decided to move some enhancements and updates until the next version. Here’s the lowdown:

A couple of problems and expected features have been pushed to Minecraft 1.4. The most notable problem is the lighting issues causing black regions in the terrain. We’re looking into ways to solve this, but lighting is a very expensive calculation and we are struggling with finding a solution that doesn’t hurt framerate.

And the most notable missing feature is the modding API. Throwing out single-player was the first step in order to make the API possible, and that’s done now. We decided to release 1.3 without the API, because otherwise it would be an even longer wait for a Minecraft update.

We’ve also added an extremely basic version of “adventure mode.” We’ll work more on this in future updates.

As you can see, the team at Mojang know what they’re doing and care deeply about the player’s experience. Sure, there will be some people angry about the merger, but it’s for the best. Unlike Blizzard’s off-handed explanations for why always-online DRM is advantageous to players, Mojang actually laid it all out and explained in detail why the change was good for them, developers and you – the players.

  • Killzone 3 Multiplayer Going Free-To-Play

    Killzone 3 Multiplayer Going Free-To-Play

One of the PlayStation 3’s best multiplayer shooters is going free-to-play next week.

On the PlayStation Blogcast this week, Sony revealed that Killzone 3’s multiplayer will be available as a free download next week. To clarify, there is no single-player component involved in this – it’s just the multiplayer. It will be free-to-play, however, and it will be glorious.

Like all good things though, there is a catch. The free-to-play version can only take you so far as there is an unspecified level cap. If you want to get the full Killzone 3 multiplayer experience, you’re going to have to pony up $14.99. Not a bad price if you want one of the best multiplayer shooters from last year.

Personally, I would suggest any interested Killzone players pick up the full game of Killzone 3 as the campaign is the best in the series. It’s also a nice change of pace compared to the heavy hitters in the shooter scene like Call of Duty and Battlefield.

The Killzone 3 multiplayer goes live in the U.S. on Tuesday, February 28, with the regular PlayStation Store update. It will presumably go live Wednesday for UK gamers with their store update.

  • Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Trailer Hits The Interwebs

Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Trailer Hits The Interwebs

In what seems to be an early leak, the multiplayer trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has hit YouTube.

The over 3-min video gives us a quick look at some of the new features to the upcoming title, cinematic slow-mo and dramatic explosions. Just what you would expect from a reveal trailer.

Some of the new things coming in MW3 multiplayer – collectible dog tags, new perks like Quickdraw, Stalker, and Assassin, and it looks like the good ol’ heartbeat sensor has made a grand return.

    Check it out below –

The official Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer World Premiere is a giant event that kicks off today at 2 pm ET. The event, taking place in Los Angeles over the next two days, will give attendees the change to be the first to play MW3, host a $1 million multiplayer tournament and let people browse MW3’s weaponry in real life. Oh, and Kanye West is set to perform at the close of the event.

As a companion of Modern Warfare 3, an all new social gaming experience called “Call of Duty Elite” has been launched in Beta test. The service will be available to all players an will provide stat tracking, group and clan organization, and special analysis modes like map performance and highlights.

Check out the trailer for Elite below –

The original Modern Warfare 3 reveal trailer caused some controversy in the U.K. Some scenes from the game hit a little too close to home as they reminded people of the 7/7 attacks that took place in 2005.
