  • Goonies Sequel Happening: Will the Original Cast Reprise Their Roles?

Childhood nostalgia continues on in the form of a Goonies sequel.

As director Richard Donner signed autographs in Beverly Hills, TMZ approached the original Goonies’ director to ask his opinion on superhero franchises. He surprised them by revealing that he isn’t working on another superhero film, but a Goonies sequel.

In 2012, Corey Feldman and Sean Astin both did voiceovers for the second season of Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Feldman was excited about working with longtime friend Astin again. He told TVGuide, “The coolest part is it’s two Goonies working together again after these years, which is crazy, because we’re all such good friends.”

When the TVGuide reporter mentioned the possibility of a Goonies sequel, Astin responded, “I’m 1000 percent certain there will be a sequel. I will bet my children on it.” Feldman wasn’t so certain as Astin about a sequel possibility, he responded, “Oh my God, I am betting no child on this matter.”

According to Slashfilm, the last time someone attempted to write a script for a Goonies sequel, it used a new group of kids, as the daughters and sons of the original Goonies gang, having their own adventure.

When talking to TMZ, Donner expressed a desire to bring back all the original cast members. No word on if this means that they would do cameos, or if the movie would take place 28 years later and revolve around them.

The original cast included Astin, Feldman, Martha Plimpton, Jeff Cohen, Josh Brolin, Jonathan Ke Quan, and Kerri Green.

The announcement of the possible film divided fans of the original Goonies.

  • Tara Reid Signs On for ‘Sharknado 2’

Tara Reid Signs On for ‘Sharknado 2’

Actress Tara Reid confirmed that she will return for Sharknado 2 on her Twitter account on Thursday. In case you’ve managed to repress Sharknado from your memory, the original was a made-for-TV film that aired on the Syfy channel last summer that showed Los Angeles being terrorized by waterspouts full of sharks. Tara Reid, Ian Ziering and John Heard starred in the first film.

Sharknado 2: The Second One will air on Syfy this coming July and will have Reid and Ziering back in their roles of April and Fin. Filming on Sharknado 2 is scheduled to begin in February, and this time the sharks are releasing their fury on New York City.

As you can tell from the tweets Reid and Ziering posted, the two actors are excited to begin working on Sharknado 2.

Despite being a made-for-TV movie, Sharknado was one of those movies that was so bad that it was good and had people talking for weeks. The movie was eventually released on Netflix. Sharknado’s cult-like following did not go unnoticed by the Syfy execs, hence the decision to film a sequel.

Sharknado was an extraordinary ‘perfect storm’ which captured the attention of movie fans across the globe,” Syfy’s executive vice president Thomas Vitale said. “You couldn’t go anywhere without hearing about Sharknado! By reassembling the creative team–and dropping sharks onto New York’s iconic sites–we’re unleashing yet another ‘fin’ wave of shark-mania.”

Sharknado 2 will have a lot to live up to to be as successful as the original. During the first broadcast of Sharknado, the movie was the most talked about TV event on Twitter. According to Twitter, the movie was mentioned more than 300,000 times during the broadcast, with a peak of 5,000 tweets per minute.

The original movie was distributed by The Asylum and the company will return for the sequel. The Asylum’s Paul Bales says he doesn’t know if Sharknado 2 will be as successful as the original, but he is hopeful. “We’re thrilled to be able to bring back the talent that made Sharknado a hit,” Bales said. “Can lightning strike twice? I don’t know, but it’s a scientific fact that you’re more likely to be killed by lightning than by a shark. This film will have lightning and sharks, so that’s got to count for something.”

  • Zoë Saldana, Sam Worthington To Star In Next Three ‘Avatar’ Sequels

The sequels to the 2009 Blockbuster film Avatar are officially in motion, and the film’s stars Zoë Saldana and Sam Worthington are back onboard!

E! News confirms Saldana and Worthington will reprise the starring roles of Neytiri and Jake Sully in the next three installments of the Avatar film series. The publication also reports that the film’s director James Cameron will be filming the sequels back-to-back with projected annual release dates for three consecutive years in a row.

The second installment of the epic science fiction action film is scheduled to hit theaters nationwide in December 2016. The third installment will be released the following year in December 2017, with the fourth to be released right after in December 2018.

Cameron recently discussed the distinct similarities and variations of Saldana and Worthington’s characters, also expressing his gratification of the two returning for the upcoming sequels. “Jake Sully is a rare combination of passion, strength, street smarts and soul, which requires a lot from an actor. Sam brought to the role a combination of sensitivity, vulnerability and strength,” Cameron explained.

“Zoë captured every aspect of the character I envisioned, bringing to Neytiri a mix of delicacy, fierceness and incredible physicality. I am beyond pleased they’ll be returning with us to Pandora.”

The direction and production of the Avatar sequels will be a collaborative effort between Cameron and his producing partner Jon Landau. An A-list team of screenwriters have also been incorporated to develop the scripts for each film.

The notable screenwriters include War of the Worlds‘ Josh Friedman, Rise of the Planet of the Apes‘ Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver and Savages‘ Shane Salerno. All three screenwriters have lauded success with the development of science fiction and thriller-themed scripts.

Avatar is still considered the highest-grossing film of all time at the box office with a worldwide total of $2,782,275,172. Due to the success of the first installment, the highly anticipated sequels are definitely expected to meet or exceed expectations. Although the amazing feat will be quite challenging to top, there’s no doubt that the possibilities are endless.

  • SpongeBob 2 Movie Features Antonio Banderas

Heads up, parents–every kid’s favorite yellow sponge has landed another film. The good news is you have about a year and a half before the kiddies drag you to the theaters to hear the charming voices of SpongeBob and his friends. “SpongeBob SquarePants 2” is about to begin filming in Georgia and has a reported release date of February 13, 2015, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Antonio Banderas, who did the voice for the popular Puss in Boots from “Shrek,” is one of the big stars in “SpongeBob 2.” Banderas will be voicing a pirate in the movie, and if he can make the character half as entertaining as Puss in Boots, the movie might be a little more enjoyable for the parents.

The director of the Savannah Film Office, Jay Self, is really excited about “SpongeBob 2.” According to Self, “This is going to be one of those films that every kid in the world is going to want to see and their parents are going to have to take them.”

Some of the live-action scenes from the movie will be shot in the Savannah area, something Self says will be great for the community. “SpongeBob is a very successful international franchise and we are very excited to be working with Paramount on this project. We know from experience how valuable the investment and exposure generated by a project like this can be for our community,” said Self.

“SpongeBob 2” is filming on Tybee Island in Georgia at the end of the month, and scenes in Savannah will begin shooting October 9. According to Savannah Now, filming in Savannah will last about 40 days, and there is a big need for people to work on the crew and serve as extras.

SpongeBob’s last movie hit theaters in 2004 and grossed more than $140 million. The TV show is still running on Nickelodeon, and season 10 is expected to begin airing in 2014, which should help increase interest in “SpongeBob 2.”

Some Twitter users are really looking forward to the sequel. A video that does a fun take on the SpongeBob theme song is at the end of the article for your viewing pleasure. Are you excited about “SpongeBob 2”? Respond below.
