  • Mitt Romney: Will He Become The Republican Nominee? RNC Chairman Says It’s Possible

Mitt Romney, the 2012 Republican Presidential nominee reiterated that he is not running for president amid speculation that he could be the Republican nominee in the event of a contested Republican National Convention in July. However, Romney said he would gladly accept it if given the chance.

“I don’t think anyone in our party should say, ‘Oh no, even if the people of the party wanted me to be president, I would say no to it.’ No one is going to say that,” Romney told NBC’s Meet the Press.

Although Mitt Romney insisted on numerous occasions that he is not joining the race, it is possible that someone who is not running for president could be nominated, according to Steffen Schmidt, a political science professor at Iowa State University.

A contested convention only happens when the candidates fail to gather the required number of delegates to secure the nomination. “If nobody has enough delegates, then the negotiation begins,” Schmidt explained. “For example, Donald Trump would go to Carson delegates or Rubio delegates and say back me, support me, I’m the most like what you want.”

If none of the delegates is able to collect a majority, that is when someone like Romney, who is not running, could be considered for a nomination. Schmidt added that the party could also tweak some rules to allow Romney to be placed in as the candidate.

Mitt Romney remains positive that such a “brokered” or “contested” convention would never happen. However, RNC Chair Reince Preibus maintains that there is a tiny possibility that such scenario would occur.

Mitt Romney said he is planning to endorse any of Donald Trump’s three rivals but insisted that he is not running. “I can tell you this: I’m not a candidate. I’m not going to be a candidate. I am going to be endorsing one of the people who is running for president.”

  • Nancy Reagan, Former First Lady, Dies in California at 94

Nancy Reagan died on Sunday at her home in L.A. at the age of 94. Her spokeswoman Joanne Drake, confirmed her passing.

“Mrs. Reagan will be buried at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, next to her husband, Ronald Wilson Reagan, who died on June 5, 2004. Prior to the funeral service, there will be an opportunity for members of the public to pay their respects at the Library,” she said in a statement.

2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney posted his thoughts on Nancy Reagan’s passing on social media.

With the passing of Nancy Reagan, we say a final goodbye to the days of Ronald Reagan. With charm, grace, and a passion…

Posted by Mitt Romney on Sunday, March 6, 2016

Nancy Reagan served as first lady during husband Ronald Reagan’s eight years in the White House. She came to be known as the “Just say no” woman behind the anti-drug campaigns of that era.

A devoted wife, Nancy Reagan never once left the hospital when when then-President Reagan was hospitalized following a 1981 assassination attempt.

When Ronald Reagan suffered from Alzheimer’s in his post-presidential years, she was his protector. After he died in 2004, Nancy Reagan kept his memory alive.

“She was always the one who kept the flame alive,” former Reagan adviser and CNN senior political analyst David Gergen said on Sunday.

According to Nancy Reagan’s official biography, Ronald Reagan was the light of her life.

“My life really began when I married my husband,” she said.

Those closest to Nancy Reagan feared for her well being after her husband of 52 years died.

“He was the center of her universe,” Nancy Reagan’s press secretary, Sheila Tate, said. “And I think when he died, we worried so much about how she’d hold up. But she always surprised me. Whenever the going got tough, Nancy Reagan did just fine.”

Prior to her years in the White House, both Ronald and Nancy Reagan lived the Hollywood dream. Nancy Reagan appeared in 11 films between 1949 and 1956. It was during her Hollywood life that she met her husband.

Funeral arrangements for Nancy Reagan will likely be announced later on Sunday or on Monday.

  • How Old is Hillary Clinton? Is She Practically Guaranteed the Democratic Nomination?

How old is Hillary Clinton? The question is trending in light of the former first lady throwing her hat into that proverbial presidential contender’s ring on Sunday. In doing so, she has confirmed what is being called the ‘worst-kept secret in politics.’ Everyone has long assumed that Hillary Clinton would run for the Democratic party.

“I’m getting ready to do something too,” Hillary Clinton said more than 90 seconds into the video she shared with her constituents on Sunday. “I’m running for president.”

“Every day Americans need a champion, and I want to be that champion,” she continues, urging Americans by saying, “It’s your time.”

Is she pretty much guaranteed the Democratic nomination? The Atlantic says yes. They report that “journalists are gearing up for Clinton’s likely primary victory and preparing for a long working relationship.”

So back to that question. Just how old is Hillary Clinton? She is 67. Born Hillary Diane Rodham on October 26, 1947, she is 21 years younger than her husband, former President Bill Clinton, was when he took office.

Is Hillary Clinton too old to run? No. Mitt Romney was in his sixties when he ran for president in 2012. John McCain was 70 when he ran in 2008.

Hillary Clinton wasn’t too old to be the Secretary of State under President Barack Obama. That’s a job she held from 2009 to 2013.

Hillary Clinton is old enough to be mom to Chelsea and a grandmother to Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky.

So how old is Hillary Clinton? Age is just a number, after all. She seems full of energy and determination. She clearly isn’t too old to pursue her dream–becoming the first female president of the United States.

  • Mitt Romney Says He Is The Best Option For President

Most politicians like to talk about themselves and brag about how good they are at what they do.

Mitt Romney has been pretty blunt with his feelings about the presidential candidates and recently said that he knows for a fact that he would make the best president.

“No question about that in my mind,” the former Massachusetts governor and 2012 Republican presidential nominee told “Fox News Sunday” when he was asked whether he’d make a better president than Clinton.

“The American people may disagree with me,” Romney explained, “But, look, you’ve got to get this economy going. You have to have people who understand what it takes to create jobs and to help people come out of poverty, to help the middle class to have a better and prosperous future. You’ve got to have that understanding.”

Romney went on to say that he doesn’t think Clinton has the skills or experience needed to run a country.

“You’ve also got to have people who’ve actually run something,” he said. “The government of the United States is the largest enterprise in the world. You watched a president who just doesn’t understand how to make an administration work, how to interact with Congress, how to get things done. You have to have those things. I don’t think Hillary Clinton has that experience.”

The strange thing is, Romney isn’t even running for President. He said that although he feels like he is the right man for the job, he is willing to help whoever wins instead of running for office again himself.

“I’ve spoken at this time and time again,” he said. “I’m not running. I’m not planning on running. I’m going to be helping the person who takes the banner for us.”

“There are other good people who I’m sure will be able to lead the country in the future. I wish it were me,” he said. “It was a great experience running for president. I loved that. But my time has…come and gone. I had that opportunity. I ran, I didn’t win. And now, it’s time for someone else to pick up the baton.”

What do you think of Romney’s opinion of Clinton?

  • Mitt Romney Campaigns For GOP Hopefuls In West Virginia

Mitt Romney may have lost the general election two years ago, but lately the former governor has been making waves in the Republican Party. So far, his involvement is limited to helping some GOP hopefuls campaign, but some have speculated that he might be gearing up for another presidential bid.

In West Virginia, the Associated Press reported that Romney is scheduled to be on the campaign trail starting on August 19th for a fundraiser in Charleston. Senate candidate and congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito is looking to Romney for help in her race against West Virginia Secretary of State Natalie Tennant.

Tennant has not been shy about attacking Capito for claiming Romney as an ally. “The fact that Congresswoman Capito would align herself with someone who believes coal ‘kills people’ just to make a quick buck shows how quickly she will turn her back on West Virginia coal miners in favor of Wall Street dollars,” a spokeswoman for Capito said, referencing a stance Romney made as governor of Massachusetts.

Despite his anti-coal rhetoric back when he was governor, Romney carried all of West Virginia’s 55 counties in 2012. West Virginian republicans Alex Mooney and Evan Jenkins are also looking to Romney for help in their congressional races.

Down in Florida, Romney endorsed Carlos Curbelo as a Republican nominee for congressman.

“I am proud to stand with Carlos Curbelo, a young conservative leader who will work hard to reform our government, balance the budget, and improve the quality of life for the people of Miami-Dade and Monroe counties,” Romney said according to the Associated Press. “As an education reformer, Carlos puts students first. In Washington, he will put his community and our country first. I urge my friends in Florida’s 26th Congressional District to vote for Carlos Curbelo.”

Is Romney helping out fellow Republicans as a kindness or is he looking to make allies and stay relevant for 2016? Matt Lewis of the Telegraph said he may have a chance in an editorial. “He was often cast as a rich guy who led a charmed life,” Lewis wrote, “but Americans like a comeback story, and what better way to reinvent oneself as a man of the people than to have lost at something, only to get up, brush yourself off, and try again.”

A recent poll in New Hampshire showed Mitt Romney was very popular compared to the other GOP presidential hopefuls, at least in the Granite State.

  • Mitt Romney Crushes New Hampshire Poll; 2016 Bid?

If someone was to grab you on the street and ask you who you thought the leading candidate for the 2016 Republican nomination for President would be, a plethora of names could tumble from your mouth – Chris Christie, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, Rand Paul, etc. etc. The last name many would expect to hear on that list would be two-time failure Mitt Romney. However, in a recent poll released by the University of New Hampshire, Romney would win the presidential nomination by a landslide if the vote was held today.

The poll, conducted by WMUR, showed that despite 20 percent of the people in New Hampshire not even knowing which party they would vote for in the 2016 election, 39 percent of them would vote for Mitt Romney. Romney’s next closest challengers, Rand Paul and Chris Christie, finished at seven percent, while Jeb Bush pulled in six percent of the vote.

The poll comes on the heels of another poll from Quinnipiac University in which 45 percent of voters believed that the United States would be better off today if Romney would have been elected in 2012 instead of Barack Obama.

There is one bit of information most sources are leaving out of the New Hampshire poll, however. The study was conducted by calling 669 New Hampshire adults and asking them who they supported. 669! A number that barely scratches the surface of eligible voters in the state, and a number that is not near big enough to extrapolate national trends.

Unfortunately, though, there is more than one source which suggests Romney would have a successful 2016 bid if he chose to do so. Much like the New Hampshire and Quinnipiac polls, a website in the state of Alabama conducted a poll which resulted in Romney accruing 63.67 percent of the vote when people were asked, “Who should be the presidential nominee for the Republican Party in 2016?”

There is also a petition online right now with the purpose of “drafting” Romney to become the next Republican presidential nominee. Surprisingly, the poll has 54,382 supporters at the current moment.

While many would not consider Romney a front-runner for the nomination by any means, the proof is in the pudding. And who knows? Perhaps the third time’s the charm for good ol’ Mittens. Only time will tell.

  • Stacey Dash: ‘Clueless’ Star Says Bill O’Reilly is Her Celebrity Crush

Stacey Dash has scored a spot on Fox News as a paid contributor, and the actress has more than one reason to be excited to join the news team — her crush on network co-worker Bill O’Reilly.

The former Clueless star made an appearance on Wednesday’s Access Hollywood Live and admitted her crush on the O’Reilly Factor host to Billy Bush, Kit Hoover and guest co-host Brooke Burns.

“I’m just a huge fan. He is [my celebrity crush],” she gushed. “[I’m attracted to] the strength, the power, the intelligence, the wit.”

Dash‘s new gig with Fox News came about after she experienced a backlash on social media for backing Mitt Romney for President over Barack Obama.

“[The backlash was] because I didn’t back the black guy, and I’m black,” she said.

“Were the Tweets mostly from black people do you think?” Bush asked.

“Yes – I don’t ‘think,’ I know. It’s absurd,” she replied. “I don’t respond. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but I’m still going to stand for what I believe in.”

The actress said her Twitter account blew up with hate-filled responses after coming out in support of Romney, but it didn’t daunt her in the least.

“People told me to kill myself, stuff like that. But I’m from the South Bronx – I don’t scare easily,” she said.

It’s amazing what one tweet can do.

“I tweeted my opinion and when I woke up the next morning, my life had changed,” the 47-year-old conservative told Elle magazine. “And since then, anything I say has been newsworthy. I say something and then it’s newsworthy.”

  • Joni Ernst Wins GOP Primary in Iowa for US Senate

In order to achieve a majority in the United States Senate after the next election cycle, the Republican Party must win six additional seats. Fortunately for conservatives, fate seemed to be smiling on the GOP Tuesday as Republican candidate Joni Ernst dominated her competition in the Iowa state primary in order to become the Republican nominee in the highly-anticipated Senatorial race this fall.

Ernst’s victory makes her the first female to ever be nominated for the Republican Senate from Iowa. The 43-year-old state Senator and military commander faced stiff competition in her primary race from multiple sources: former energy executive and multi-millionaire Mark Jacobs, Rick Perry-backed attorney Matt Whitaker, radio host and Santorum-supported Sam Clovis, and car-salesman Scott Schaben.

While most political pundits expected Jacobs to present the greatest challenge to Ernst (mainly due to his record-setting self-financed campaign expenditures of over $1.65 million), but it was Clovis who finished second to Ernst with 18 percent of the vote. Ernst more than doubled her competition, finishing with 56.2 percent of the votes.

Ernst was able to run such a successful campaign mainly through the use of contextually-strategic television ads. Her first ad was entitled “Squeal” and featured Ernst discussing the hog castration skills she obtained growing up on an Iowa farm. In the video, Ernst states that she will use her castration skills in Washington to help “cut the pork.”

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9Y24MFOfFU

The video became so popular that it was even featured on late-night talk shows across the country, bringing in much needed outside support for Ernst’s campaign and leading to another viral ad.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3mG9fNOZp4

Perhaps the most important outside support Ernst received was from former presidential nominee and Republican Mitt Romney. While Romney has directly helped Ernst by appearing in a television ad aired by the Chamber of Commerce and by making an appearance for Ernst on the campaign trail, his more important contributions have come indirectly.

Both Ernst’s campaign manager and treasurer are former Romney staffers. The consulting group Ernst hired is headed by a former Romney adviser. And Ernst has also received much support from the PAC America Rising, headed by former Romney campaign manager Matt Rhoades.

The greatest assistance from America Rising came with its release of a video showing Ernst’s Democratic opposition for the Senate seat in the fall, Bruce Braley, potentially alienating Iowa voters by insulting the most popular politician in Iowa, Charles Grassley, by calling him “a farmer from Iowa who never went to law school.”

Coincidentally (or not), Ernst released her “Squeal” video, which spoke to her farming roots, the same day as America Rising released the Braley video, rocketing Ernst’s popularity amongst Iowa voters almost overnight.

If Ernst wants to become Iowa’s first female Republican Senator, however, she is going to have to hope for much more outside help to come. As it currently stands, Braley has a five-point advantage in the early polls. That, coupled with the fact that he was unopposed in the primary and has a $2.3 million fund to pull from, puts Ernst at a disadvantage going into the fall campaign.

  • Stacey Dash Joins FOX News as a Contributor

Actress Stacey Dash will be joining FOX News Channel as a contributor, according to a press release issued by the network on Wednesday.

“Stacey is an engaging conversationalist whose distinctive viewpoints amongst her Hollywood peers have spawned national debates,” said Executive Vice President of Programming Bill Shine. “We’re pleased to have her join FOX News.”

A native of the Bronx, New York, 47-year-old Dash began her acting career over 20 years ago with guest appearances on The Cosby Show, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and St. Elsewhere.

Dash made her feature film debut in 1987’s Enemy Territory. She followed that up with Moving opposite Richard Pryor in 1988, Mo’ Money with Damon Wayans in 1992, and Renaissance Man with Mark Wahlberg in 1994.

Her breakout role came in 1995 when she appeared in Clueless alongside Alicia Silverstone, Brittany Murphy, and Paul Rudd.

More recently, Dash starred in Lap Dance, with an ensemble cast that included Carmen Electra, Mariel Hemingway, and Nia Peeples.

In October 2012 Dash drew criticism for tweeting her endorsement of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

The backlash took the form of what some considered racially-based hate tweets along the lines of “You’re an unemployed black woman endorsing @MittRomney. You’re voting against yourself thrice. You poor beautiful idiot.”

Dash stood her ground, replying “My humble opinion… EVERYONE is entitled to one.”

“I tweeted my opinion and when I woke up the next morning, my life had changed,” Dash said recently, looking back on the incident. “And since then, anything I say has been newsworthy.”

Dash, who portrays herself as a paradoxical mix of down-to-earth conservative and modern-day feminist but also admits to harboring dreams of one day running for political office, still seems a little dazzled by the turn her career has taken.

“Twenty years after Clueless I’m starting all over. All because of a tweet!”

Dash is cashing in on the opportunity that single tweet presented, and continues to express her opinions prolifically on Twitter:

    Dash frequently retweets her critics:

“Everyone else can just attack ’em … That way I don’t have to say anything.”

  • Mitt Romney: Hillary Should Be Judged On Her Own Record

Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney had this to say about Hillary Clinton: “If ever she takes the road to presidential candidacy, her own record as the United States Secretary of State should be judged, and not her husband’s history.” This was his response to Kentucky Senator Rand Paul’s statement that if Hillary Clinton seeks to be the Democratic Party’s nominee for president, her husband ex-President Bill Clinton’s scandalous affair with Monica Lewinsky must be re-examined.

Romney believes that in her case, the voting population will look at her record, and examine what matters: whether the U.S. relations with other nations elevated America and its interests or not. Whatever her husband did to embarrass the nation should not pull down her own merits, and it should also not be her responsibility to explain. After all, he says, Hillary Clinton has her own plans for America.

Bill Clinton admits to affair with Monica Lewinsky

    Where is Monica Lewinsky now?

Sen. Rand Paul has been pressing the issue, suggesting that if ever Hillary wins, the former president would be placed in the White House again. Romney was firm when he said that Bill Clinton is not relevant in Hillary’s record.

When asked whether he would consider seeking a presidential nomination again, he said no, but he will surely give his support to the candidate he thinks will have the best chance of defeating the Democrat nominee.

Mitt Romney served as the Governor of Massachusetts from 2002-2006. One of his major projects as governor was to develop and enact into law the state’s health care reform legislation. The legislation served to provide constituents with access to an almost universal health insurance by tapping into state-level subsidies, as well as individual mandates, to purchase insurance.

After his term, he campaigned for a Republican Party nomination in the presidential election, but lost to Arizona Senator John McCain. He tried again in 2012 and won the nomination, but was defeated by current Democratic President Barack Obama in the election held in November.

  • ‘Mitt’ To Hit Netflix Today

    ‘Mitt’ To Hit Netflix Today

Mitt, the latest original documentary from Netflix is due to become available to subscribers today, though as of the time of this writing it’s not up just yet.

The film, which premiered at Sundance (where Romney himself made a surprise appearance) follows the former presidential candidate on the campaign trail. Here’s the official description from the film’s landing page on Netflix:

Whatever side you’re on, see another side.
Following his bid to win the U.S. presidency, most Americans believed they knew Mitt Romney. With unprecedented access, this documentary tracks Romney from 2006 and his first effort to win the Republican nomination, through the 2012 elections, revealing the man behind the sound bites in an authentic view the public rarely glimpsed during the media frenzy of a national campaign.

Earlier this week, Netflix released a couple clips if you want to check those out before watching the film.

    Mitt is rated TV-PG.

  • Netflix Shares A Couple ‘Mitt’ Clips In Which Romney Discusses Debates And His Concession Speech

Netflix has just released a couple of clips from its upcoming documentary Mitt, which follows former presidential candidate Mitt Romney on the campaign trail.

The film just premiered at Sundance, where Romney himself made a surprise appearance. You can see the trailer here.

In the first clip, Romney kicks around ideas for what to say in his concession speech. “Nobody’s listening,” he jokes.

In the other, Romney talks about the debates, and how “sitting presidents have a very hard time” in them “because they feel like ‘Who is this whippersnapper coming up here that knows nothing? I’m president of the United States. I’ve been all over the world. I meet with world leaders. I’m commander in chief, I know all of these things, I’ve been doin’ them,’ and then they come in, and so they don’t prepare, and they just think they can just waltz through it because they’ve done the job, and then they get crushed in the first debate as George W. did, as George Herbert Walker…and then they come back…”

These are just a couple tastes of what you’ll see in the film, which will hit Netflix on Friday.

The filmmaker maintains that Mitt is not presented with political bias. Come Friday, Netflix subscribers can decide for themselves.

  • Romney Shows Up At Sundance Premiere For Netflix’s ‘Mitt’

Mitt, the Netflix documentary following former presidential candidate Mitt Romney, premiered at Sundance over the weekend, and Romney himself made a surprise appearance.

“The ending I probably won’t like, but nonetheless, I think it will be a good experience and probably give my family and others a chance to see what it’s like to run for president, which by the way is one of life’s most extraordinary experiences,” Romney told reporters ahead of the premiere.

Of documentarian Greg Whitely, Romney said, “He said, you know, even if we never make a movie of this, it will be a wonderful journey to keep for your family of what your presidential campaign was like.”

For MItt, Whitely followed Romney around for six years with exclusive access, and the results are what appear in the film. Whitely maintains that there is no political agenda, but rather that Mitt is meant to be an honest look at a presidential campaign.

The film premieres on Netflix on Friday.

  • Director Of Netflix’s ‘Mitt’ Amazed At How ‘Cheap’ Romney Is

While The Square is getting a lot of publicity this week for its Oscar nomination, another Netflix original documentary will debut next week on the 24th.

Mitt follows the six years that filmmaker Greg Whitely had exclusive access to former presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Here’s the trailer Netflix put out last month:

Reuters has put out an interview with Whitely who talked a bit about the film. He told the news agency that he was surprised that somebody as rich as Romney “would be that cheap,” recalling when the candidate expressed his shock at the price of a glass of milk at a hotel. “He was constantly agonizing over how much for a (campaign advertising) spot,” Whitely’s quoted as saying. “He would look at the hotel bill and just go crazy, and say, ‘I’ll just go buy my own milk at the grocery store at a third of the cost.’”

He went on to say of the Romney family, “They’re clean-cut people who are polite and gracious, but I think it’s impossible to go through that without developing a degree of cynicism. I think it’s a tribute to them that they remained pretty bright-eyed.”

The film will premiere at Sundance, and Whitely hopes the Netflix release will be able to “piggy-back on all the great PR and buzz and momentum” from that, though Netflix tends to generate PR and buzz pretty well on its own.

The filmmaker maintains that the movie does not employ a political agenda, but rather is simply about a family and the father of the family running for president. Viewers will certainly make up their own minds about that. Either way, Netflix will likely generate plenty of interest in this one.

  • Melissa Harris-Perry Apologizes for Jokes About Mitt Romney’s Grandson

Another week brings us another TV network that people are threatening to boycott. Melissa Harris-Perry ruffled a few feathers after jokes were made about Mitt Romney’s black grandson on her show. On the Melissa Harris-Perry show on MSNBC, Harris-Perry showed the family picture Romney posted to his Twitter account during the holidays. In the center of the photo, Romney is seen holding his black grandchild, which prompted Harris-Perry’s panelists to make a few jokes.

In the Melissa Harris-Perry episode that aired on December 29, the Romney family photo was shown during a Caption That segment. “Everybody loves a baby picture,” Harris-Perry said, “and this was one that really, a lot of people had emotions about this baby picture this year. This is the Romney family. And, of course, there on Governor Romney’s knee is his adopted grandson, who is an African-American, adopted African-American child, Kieran Romney.”

After Harris-Perry showed the picture, Pia Glenn sang “One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just isn’t the same.” Comedian Dean Obeidallah used the photo to make a crack about the Republican party. “I think this picture is great,” he said. “It really sums up the diversity of the Republican party, the RNC. At the convention, they find the one black person.”

Check out the Romney family photo below.

It didn’t take long for the complaints about the jokes to start rolling in, with many people calling the comments “disrespectful” and “racist.” Harris-Perry apologized for the comments made about Romney’s grandson during the show on Twitter yesterday. Check out the apology tweets below.

Even though Melissa Harris-Perry apologized, this isn’t enough for some folks. Check out the tweets where people call for Harris-Perry’s head and threaten to boycott MSNBC below. Unlike the Duck Dynasty-A&E situation, no petitions have popped up yet, but maybe people are still recovering from the New Year’s Eve celebrations.

  • Mitt Romney Ridiculed For Having Black Grandson

MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry attracted outrage on MSNBC Sunday’s airing of “What’s So Funny About 2013?”  Harris-Perry and her guests poked fun at Mitt Romney’s black grandson pictured in a Christmas photo.  The photo features Romney and his extended family which includes baby Kieran, who was adopted by Romney’s Son Ben and his wife Andelynne.

The panel of comedians and liberal pundits on the show took the opportunity to turn the photo into an uncouth political joke.

Actress Pia Glenn added, “One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just isn’t the same,” in reference to baby Keiran. “And that little baby, front and center, would be the one,” Glenn said.

“It really sums up the diversity of the Republican party, the RNC. At the convention, they find the one black person,” jested comedian Dean Obeidallah.

Melissa Harris-Perry is an African-American herself and her show normally focuses on black issues. Harris-Perry added to the joke by saying that she looked forward to a wedding between North West (Kanye West’s daughter) and Kieran Romney in 2040. For many viewers the “joke” was in poor taste and not very funny. Some have even called it racist.

Sarah Palin wrote in her Facebook page that the joke was despicable because the “media hounds” were expressing a prejudice and not an opinion. “This latest attack from the Left is despicable,” she said.  She further mocked them by calling them “yellow journalists” who needs to find a conscience.

Glenn was defensive in her response to a critic but she later apologized through her Twitter account, “In a spontaneous reaction to a photo, my disdain for Mitt Romney’s political platform led me to inadvertently insult adoptive families … I can say all day what I ‘meant,’ but my intentions do not negate the very real pain I have caused. I sincerely apologize.”

Obeidallah also later apologized in a statement to CNN and Harris-Perry took to Twitter to express her regret as well.

  • Melissa Harris-Perry Apologizes To Mitt Romney

Melissa Harris-Perry has issued an apology to the Romney family, after she and the guests on a segment of the Melissa Harris-Perry show, mocked the fact that Mitt Romney has a black grandchild.

When introducing the “photos of the year”, Harris-Perry introduced Romney’s photo saying: “Everybody loves a baby picture, and this was one that really, a lot of people had emotions about this baby picture this year. This is the Romney family. And, of course, there on Governor Romney’s knee is his adopted grandson, who is an African-American, adopted African-American child, Kieran Romney.”

Panelist Pia Glenn chimed in by singing: “One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just isn’t the same, and that little baby, front and center, would be the one.”

Harris-Perry then added: “And isn’t he the most gorgeous. My goal is that in 2040, the biggest thing of the year will be the wedding between Kieran Romney and North West. Can you imagine Mitt Romney and Kanye West as in-laws?”

Dean Obedeillah, another panelist, gave his two cents as well. “I think this picture is great,” Obedeillah said. “It really sums up the diversity of the Republican party, the RNC. At the convention, they find the one black person.”

When the media, and the Romney family, heard what was said on Harris-Perry’s show, they were outraged. Harris-Perry later took to Twitter to offer an apology to the Romney family, and whoever else she, and her panel members, offended.

I am sorry. Without reservation or qualification. I apologize to the Romney family. I work by guiding principle that those who offend do not have the right to tell those they hurt that they r wrong for hurting. Therefore, while I meant no offense, I want to immediately apologize to the Romney family for hurting them. As black child born into large white Mormon family I feel familiarity w/ Romney family pic & never meant to suggest otherwise. I apologize to all families built on loving transracial adoptions who feel I degraded their lives or choices.

  • Netflix Releases Trailer For Original Mitt Romney Documentary ‘Mitt’

Last week, Netflix announced its latest original documentary Mitt. The film follows former presidential candidate Mitt Romney along the campaign trail, providing what Netflix describes as “an intimate, rarely seen, behind-the-scenes look at a candidate running for the presidency.”

Netflix has just released a trailer for the film:

As the trailer notes, “For 6 years, one filmmaker had exclusive access to Mitt Romney.”

That filmmaker would be Greg Whitely (“New York Doll,” “Resolved”). Seth Gordon (“Undefeated,” “The King of Kong”) serves as executive producer.

“Greg Whiteley’s Mitt provides viewers a surprising level of access into a fascinating world,” said Lisa Nishimura, Netflix VP of Original Documentary and Comedy. “This rare inside look at Mitt Romney and his family as he runs for president showcases a unique kind of storytelling, one which takes the viewer well beyond the politics. We are thrilled to be providing our viewers with this one-of-a-kind film from such a talented filmmaker.”

Mitt will hit Netflix on January 24th, according to the trailer (the original press release said January 25th).

  • Netflix Adds Mitt Romney Documentary ‘Mitt’ To Slate Of Originals

Netflix is rapidly building up its queue of original documentaries, today announcing that it has added Mitt Romney documentary Mitt to its slate.

Netflix will premiere the documentary on Friday, January 25th.

    Mitt

The film was directed by Greg Whiteley (“New York Doll,” “Resolved”) and executive produced by Seth Gordon (“Undefeated,” “The King of Kong”).

According to Netflix, Mitt provides ” an intimate, rarely seen, behind-the-scenes look at a candidate running for the presidency,” and follows “Romney’s presidential aspirations beginning Christmas 2006 to his initial run to become the Republican nominee in 2008 and through his Presidential concession speech in 2012.” The description continues, “Given unprecedented access by Mitt and his family, Whiteley travels alongside the campaign through interactions with potential voters, preparations for the debates, personal moments with his family, and concluding with final presidential election night results.”

“It feels like a full circle moment to premiere this movie at Sundance,” said Whiteley. “I first met and filmed the Romney family in Park City in 2006 as they gathered to discuss whether Mitt should run for President. Over the next 7 years I couldn’t believe I was filming inside rooms and situations I had no business being in. Now that I’ve finished I couldn’t be more pleased to share this experience with audiences around the world through Netflix.”

The film will be available to Netflix users in all territories where the service is available. As with The Square, the Mitt will hit Netflix while making its theatrical rounds. It debuts at Sundance on January 17th.

For Netflix subscribers, Mitt should serve as a nice segue to House of Cards: Season 2, which debuts less than a month later.

The Short Game, another recently acquired Netflix documentary, makes its debut this week.

  • Mitt Romney Spotted Tailgating At Ole Miss

How do previous presidential candidates spend their free time? In Mitt Romney’s case, one spends time tailgating for Ole Miss. It appears that businessman and politician, Mitt Romney, still strives to remain in contact with former employees as his previous employee, Garrett Jackson, was also enjoying the Ole Miss tailgating festivities.

Garrett Jackson, who graduated from Ole Miss in 2009, had at one point served as Mitt Romney’s personal aide. Garrett at least partially contributed to Mitt’s reason to spend leisure time on the tailgating field as well as sitting in the stands observing the game. Since it isn’t every day that the 70th Governor of Massachusetts and the 2012 Republican Party’s nominee for President of the United States visits a game, Garrett shared news of the personal visit on his Twitter page.

Though sixty-six-year-old Romney completed his undergraduate degree at Brigham Young and his joint Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration degree at Harvard, he wore the Ole Miss shirt proudly in support of the team. Seeing the former presidential candidate walking among the trees must have been quite the shock for fellow tailgaters. Many took to Twitter in order to share images of their encounters.

  • Kieren Romney: Has Dark Skin, Name Means “Black”

Mitt Romney has a new adopted grandchild and that baby has a very descriptive name. The new baby, son of Ben and Andelynne Romney, Mitt’s son and daughter-in-law, is named Kieren which is a derivative of Kieran, a Gaelic name that means “black”. The baby has dark skin and was born via a surrogate.

The birth of little Kieren made the 22nd grandbaby for Mitt and Anne Romney. Or did it? Earlier this week, Mitt said the same thing for his last grandchild. Romney’s son Josh and his wife Jen gave birth to a little boy this summer — born the same day as royal baby Prince George — prompting Mitt to send a proud tweet welcoming grandchild “#22″.

So which grandchild can claim spot #22? Politico found that Mitt and Ann Romney had grandkids No. 17 and No. 18 during the 2012 presidential election season, when their son Tagg and his wife Jennifer welcomed twins via surrogate. Then, early this year there arrived another set of twins, No. 19 and No. 20 in February, when son Craig’s wife Mary gave birth to twins.

So, by that count, little Kieren can proudly claim spot number 22 on the long list of Romney heirs, and in all fairness, you can’t blame poor Mitt. It’s 22 children! Most people probably would lose count. Let’s just wait and see if he can remember all of their birthdays!
