“I’m a total homebody,” she said in a recent interview with NPR. “I’m always looking for excuses not to go out. I can now use fame as an excuse.” She laughs, “and I do.”

Jennifer Lawrence considered not taking on the role of Katniss Everdeen because she feared the franchise might become so big that her parents would have to move to a different home to ensure their privacy.

She took the role, however, and her parents wound up moving.

“I mostly just said, ‘You know what? I love this character. I love this movie. I believe in it, and I’m going to say ‘yes’ for the same reasons that I would say ‘yes’ to any indie,’” Jennifer Lawrence says.

Lawrence’s latest film, Joy, is about the woman known for creating the Miracle Mop.

“A lot of people have inventions or they have ideas and then they bring it to somebody else and they say, ‘I have this idea [but] I don’t know how to make it,’” Jennifer Lawrence says. “But Joy grew up in a metal garage, so she was in complete control of all of her creations.”

  • Jennifer Lawrence to Star in ‘Joy’

Jennifer Lawrence is set to play the role of Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano in an upcoming film called Joy. Due out on Christmas Day 2015, the film will be directed by David O. Russell.

Jennifer Lawrence and the director have worked together before and they’ve enjoyed great success as a result of their prior collaborations. He directed Silver Linings Playbook for which she won an Oscar and American Hustle for which she received an Oscar nomination.

The new film will tell the tale of the single mom from Long Island who became famous both for her mop–it allowed people to clean their floors without getting their hands dirty–as well as for her presence on TV shopping networks.

“He recently texted me at, I think, 4 in the morning, and was like, ‘I think I want to make a movie about the woman who invented the [Miracle] Mop. You want to do it?’ And I was like, yeah,” Jennifer Lawrence said.

She added, “I could just imagine David looking at somebody mopping and being like, ‘Yeah, that’s my next screenplay.’”

Jennifer Lawrence is presently busy filming parts one and two of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay . Her role as Katniss Everdeen is really what launched her career, taking her from smaller roles to starring in A-list films.

Some may question how interesting or exciting a film about a woman who invented a mop might be, however if David O. Russell is directing and he has signed someone as sought after as Jennifer Lawrence for the leading role then the story must be well worth telling. Lawrence is clearly a very diverse actress who doesn’t disappoint.
