    Hayao Miyazaki’s Children’s Books

Not too long ago we featured some of the work of etsy’s 84/5 Studio. Specifically, Minimalist Posters of Cult Classics. Now they have released this set of postcards that features minimalist art for each of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli’s most popular films.

Like most of 8/45 Studio’s stuff, they are experiencing high demand for this set of artistic prints. Expect delays if you decide to order.

    From 845 Studio:

A set of nine 4×6″ postcards based off 9 Studio Ghibli films. It’s not all of the Ghibli films, just the ones Miyazaki directed and yes technically “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind” wasn’t a Studio Ghibli film when released but it has been re-released in the US on dvd as one so I included it.

Films shown: Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Ponyo

These prints are based off the retro Penguin book cover style.

    Size: 4 x 6″
    Color: white cover stock
    Details: Digital Print
    Ships: Flat

Due to high demand I am having to get another batch of these cards printed so please note that all prints will ship within 5-15 business days of payment being received. If you need them sooner for a gift, let me know and I will try and get them to you

  • Minimalist Movie Posters Make You Think About Life

Minimalist Movie Posters Make You Think About Life

Sometimes things in life like movies really have the possibility to make you think about things in a new light. Saving Private Ryan did that for me, even though I was in the Air Force, it made me realize the reality of fighting a war against an experienced army. The minimalist approach has the ability to make even the smallest things that you may have not noticed the first time seem like the most important things in the movie.

Daniel Keane over at WolfCadet.com has created a ton of cool posters making movies into minimalist pieces. The goal as far as I can tell is to get as much emotion out of as little as possible. Everything you see here is available to purchase and there are also a lot more including Seven posters and Shining posters.

    300

The battle of Thermopylae is one of the turning points in the history of the western world. 300 Spartains led an army of 7,000 men to defend a small pass from an invading Persian army that consisted of anywhere between 100,000 and 500,000 soldiers. The Greeks held them off for 7 days before falling.

Alllllrighty then! isn’t that what you think of when you see that hair?

    Jurassic Park

To think that life itself can be carried around in something as small as a canister of shaving cream makes one think about how delicate we really are.

    Minority Report

The thought that the police in the future can convict you on what you might do is not so absurd as it once was.

    Saving Private Ryan

The invasion of Europe started on the beaches of Normandy. The allied farces had to cross a beach littered with Belgian gates. These small pieces of steel meant to stop armor from coming ashore actually helped the allies advance and saved some lives.

    Star Trek

The reboot featured the entire planet of Vulcan being eliminated by the help of this energy drill. To think that 6 billion lives ended from something that is supposed to make a being’s life easier and less dangerous.

    Top Gun

Launching yourself off a platform sitting on thousands of pounds of jet fuel can be a sobering experience and the thrill it produces creates adventure junkies.

    The Walking Dead

The lasting image of Hershel’s farm burning to the ground is indeed a lasting image.

If you liked Awesome Minimalist Disney Posters FTW, you will love these book covers by the same artist: Rowan Stocks-Moore. This guy is a genius. You should take the time to view more of his work. Or stop by his Etsy shop to buy a print and support what he does.

The principal characters of The Jungle Book are shown in silhouette in such a way that the title of the book is surplus to requirement, so synonymous is the combination of boy, wolf and bear.

For the image of Hamlet at top Rowan says, “The Joker card doubling as a gravestone to symbolise the deceased jester Yorick, featured in one of the plays most famous scenes.”

    Minimalist Posters of Cult Classics

Yesterday we brought you Minimalist Disney Posters for the post-modern household. Seriously, check them out. They will blow you away. Today we bring you a more adult oriented re-imagining of famous movie posters. These posters are from 84/5 Studios and like before, are available for purchase on Etsy.

Though some of these movies are rate PG or PG-13, for the most part, they represent movies geared towards adults. Like most cult classics, they bring out the child’s enthusiasm for cinema in all of us.

I put this in order of my favorites, there are more being sold on 84/5’s Etsy. The original posters for 2001: A Space Odyssey are minimalist enough for me, and there are a lot of other images from that movie that are better suited for this kind of artwork.

Also, I’m not sure if the amount of text on some of these really qualifies them as “minimalist”, but they are cool none-the-less.

What do you think? Which ones are your favorites?

Something about minimalist art just looks great on movie posters. Combine that with Disney movies and you get a whole new edge. You might think most of these posters are for some dark, avant-garde indie film, not a cute animated kid’s flick.

Liverpool graphic designer Rowan Stocks-Moore designed these. Check out his work. His interpretation of classic book cover designs are also very impressive.

The above (and others) are all available in poster form on Rowan Stocks-Moore’s Etsy account He has recently had a lot of requests for his stuff so expect to wait about 14 working days for a print, longer for United States customers.
