  • Mindy Kaling Had Fling With Obama Aide

Mindy Kaling Had Fling With Obama Aide

Mindy Kaling had a fling with an Obama aide that lasted a year–but she’s not telling anyone anything about him, other than his first name–Will. This is just one of the revelations the star of The Mindy Project makes in her new book, Why Not Me?

In her book, Mindy Kaling goes into great detail about the romance she had with President Obama’s aide. She talks of how Will took her on a tour of the White House and how they attended some of Washington, D.C.’s “hottest parties.” She even gives details on nights of passion with the so-called “Will.”

Even though Kaling doesn’t divulge Will’s last name, she describes him in fairly intricate detail. She shares that he’s tall with blonde hair and that he wears glasses. She says he’s a Tennessee native, an Ivy League graduate (University of Pennsylvania), and that he travels “everywhere with the president.” She reportedly met Will at a fundraiser President Obama attended in New York.

“Will spent the night. The next morning when he was leaving, he was so shy and adorable in my foyer, that when I closed the door, I covered my mouth with my hand to stifle my scream,” Mindy Kaling writes in her book.

“Will and I continued to text and e-mail, and would try to see each other, but it never seemed to crystallize into anything more,” Kaling adds. ” … All I had to do now was move on. In the words of both Mariah Carey and Taylor Swift, I knew I could shake it off.”

Mindy Kaling covers lots of other topics in her new book, but none are quite as enthralling as the story of Will.

Will you be picking up a copy of Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling to see if you can get the whole scoop on Will the White House aide?

  • Mindy Kaling Got Help From “The Office” Co-star In Casting Love Interest

Mindy Kaling Got Help From “The Office” Co-star In Casting Love Interest

Mindy Kaling has had her own successful show for a while now, but many of us got to know her on The Office. As bubbly Kelly, Kaling started out with only a few small speaking parts on the show and ended up being one of the most riveting characters, in part because of her manic, unhealthy relationship with B.J. Novak’s character Ryan.

What some people might not know is that Kaling and Novak are a former couple, and Novak produced the pilot for The Mindy Project. He also played a big part in choosing Mindy’s on-screen love interest, Chris Messina.

“It’s like he has such good taste, and he knows me so well. We’re such different kinds of people. Our energies were so different, it might be enjoyable to watch, but I didn’t know going into it. It was just luck,” she told People.

Mindy spoke recently about the show’s move from FOX to Hulu, where it was saved from cancellation. The actress says she’s fine with it, if it means she can focus on being creative and doing what she loves.

“To be honest, after being on network TV for 11 years, I’m kind of happy about that. I’d rather just focus on the creative and I’m happy that they’re not trying to pull me into those conversations. I’m so grateful and I just want to make the show better than it’s ever been. We went from ‘We’re never doing this show again’ to having more work than ever,” Mindy Kaling said.

But don’t expect the move to change the show’s writing; cast member Ike Barinholtz says that wouldn’t be in their best interest.

“I think if we really changed the show and made it more risqué and put it more on a tilt towards stuff you might find on HBO or Showtime, we would maybe turn off some of our core viewers,” Barinholtz said.

  • Mindy Kaling Talks Skinny Actresses and Fat Actresses

Mindy Kaling is in a unique position in Hollywood. Not many actresses with her ethnic background have made the kind of impact on Hollywood that Kaling has. Her irreverent, but somehow self-conscious take on all things around her had drawn fans like honey.

In her new book, Why Not Me?, Kaling addresses several aspects of how she got to where she is today, and what it is like being her.

“People talk about confidence without ever bringing up hard work. That’s a mistake,” she writes. “I know I sound like some dour older spinster chambermaid on Downton Abbey who has never felt a man’s touch and whose heart has turned to stone, but I don’t understand how you could have self-confidence if you don’t do the work.”

Even so, Kaling admits that there are some things she has to deal with that defy all logic and effort.

“Your natural hair color may be appropriate for your skin tone, but this isn’t the land of appropriate–this is Hollywood, baby. Out here, a dark-skinned woman’s traditional hair color is honey blonde.”

Still, Mindy Kaling didn’t drift into her success, or get accidentally discovered. She worked for it. She touts the virtues of hard work.

“I have never, ever, ever, met a high confident person and successful person who is not what a movie would call a ‘workaholic.’ We can’t have it both ways, and children should know it,” she writes. “Because confidence is like respect; you have to earn it.”

Even her experiences growing up prepared her for the notion that she had to earn what she won, not get handed some consolation prize.

Mindy Kaling related an experience at a basketball camp she went to as a kid. She was terrible at basketball, but her fellow campers had given her an award for “Coolest Clothes.”

“I ran home, delighted, and placed it proudly on top of our TV for all to see,” she says. “Weeks later, I went to the TV room to find that it was gone. My beautiful trophy! Was it stolen by a gang of criminals jealous of my peach denim shorts from the Limited Too?! Mom told me she had “put it away.” I didn’t understand. Someone had singled me out for praise and the trophy deserved to be seen. Then my mom said something to me, slowly and carefully, like she always did to make sure I was really listening: ‘They gave you that trophy so you wouldn’t feel bad, not because you deserved it. You should know the difference.’ ”

Her new book is not all life lessons. Kaling brings her irreverent humor to observations about the business she is in, especially on the topic of body image.

“Most women we see onscreen are either so thin that they’re walking clavicles or so huge that their only scenes involve them breaking furniture.”

  • Mindy Kaling’s Show Is Back With New Additions To The Cast

The Mindy Project is back and is looking to be better than ever! Mindy Kaling still headlines the comedy show, but it’s been reported that this coming 4th season will have guest stars making appearances along with Mindy’s parents.

TV parents that is. Sakina Jaffrey is set to become Dr. Mindy Lahiri’s mother and Ajay Mehta as her on-screen father.

Jaffrey is famous for starring in television series such as Girls, Third Watch, and Sleepy Hollow, and House of Cards, while also having big screen roles in The Domino Effect, The Understudy, and The Nanny Diaries, among others.

Mehta, on the other hand, is a TV sitcom mainstay with roles in  New Girl, 24, Law and Order, and Modern Family.

During the season 3 finale, the two new additions to the show were already hinted to show their faces in the coming season. However, news broke out that Fox cancelled the romantic comedy, upsetting the fans and creator Mindy Kaling.

“I just think there are more stories. I do think there’s more to tell, and I think fans would be disappointed not to see more adventures with these characters,” said Kaling after the cancellation.

Not long after, fans were once again jubilant as Hulu took over the production of the show. The online video service company already signed for 26 episodes of the TV show.

The guest stars confirmed to appear on the show are Dancing With the Stars host Brooke Burke and Freida Pinto who will both play themselves. Freida Pinto will star as a love interest for Chris Messina’s character, Danny.

Last season’s final scene featured Danny looking at the door of Kaling’s on screen parents. It won’t be soon before long that we, along with Danny, will finally be able to open that door and enjoy this new and improved version of the show.

  • Mindy Kaling Is The Voice Of Disgust In Pixar’s ‘Inside Out’

Inside Out creator Pete Docter struggled to find the voice for the character of Disgust. Eventually, TV star and comedian Mindy Kaling got the role.

The film revolves around Riley, a little girl who moved  to San Francisco from Minnesota. Riley has five different emotions voiced by five different people.

Amy Poehler voices Joy, Bill Hader for Fear, Lewis Black for Anger, Phyllis Smith for Sadness and Kaling for Disgust.

The film goes out to theaters this Friday. Inside Out could possibly mark a comeback for Pixar despite the fact that the studio has focused more on sequels than original stories.

Creator Docter admitted that he and the whole Pixar team had a tough time for Disgust.

“Disgust, we struggled with a lot,” Docter said, “because we weren’t sure whether she should be disgusting or disgusted. Once we arrived at disgusted, Mindy’s voice came up.” Docter became impressed after hearing Kaling voice out lines for Disgust’s dialogue.

Riley was more the setting of the story than the lead character. The five emotions in her head played larger roles than she did. The whole idea was pitched by Docter to producer Jonas Rivera.

“The way Pete pitched it to me was, What if we could make a movie about a little girl, but she’s not the main character, she’s the setting — and the main characters are her emotions?’ We wanted to illustrate how kids change,” said Rivera.

The 35-year-old The Mindy Project star told The News about her challenges during the voice dubbing for Disgust.

“I had to make a lot of nauseated sounds, I had to be barely keeping myself from throwing up a lot,” said Kaling. “You have to not make yourself nauseated, so that was a little challenging.”

Mindy Kaling Show, ‘The Mindy Project’ Heads to Hulu for Season 4

Mindy Kaling has just learned that Hulu has saved her show–The Mindy Project–from its demise. Just a week after Fox cancelled the show, Hulu announced it had ordered the fourth season of the show from Universal Television.

Twenty-six new episodes of The Mindy Project will air during season four, providing Mindy Kaling fans with the perfect opportunity to find out how the season three finale cliffhanger turns out. A pregnant Mindy Kaling and her boyfriend Danny (played by Chris Messina) were having some trouble after he told her he didn’t want to get married. Might season four find Danny experiencing a change of heart?

Mindy Kaling shared her excitement over the Hulu deal in a statement.

“I am thrilled The Mindy Project has found a new home on Hulu, where so many of our fans are already watching the show,” she said. “It’s such an exciting place to be.”

In addition to Mindy Kaling, The Mindy Project stars Ed Weeks, Ike Barinholtz, Beth Grant, and Xosha Roquemore.

  • Mindy Kaling Teases About Whether Her Show Is Really Over

Mindy Kaling Teases About Whether Her Show Is Really Over

Mindy Kaling may be up to something. Figuring out what that is could be the tough part.

Mindy Kaling’s show, The Mindy Project, was canceled this week. That news came as a stunner to her fans who tuned in every week to see their favorite girl as Mindy Lahiri.

But then Mindy Kaling posted a short video to Instagram that seemed to poke fun at the news that her show had been canned. In the video (posted below) she gives the camera a big wink. The caption says, “Hey guys, I’m in Montana, is anything happening in LA?”

She also captioned with the hashtag #themindyproject. Fans commented that this was some sort of tease that her show may not be entirely gone. Time will tell if there is anything to that, but some had guesses.

“she knows what’s up…. Moving to the Hulu fo sho”

“So many people loves MINDY! I’ll follow wherever you go! I might end up subscribing to HuLu”

But Mindy Kaling did do the InStyle cover for June. In the interview that accompanied the piece, she revealed that she is still a pretty well-grounded person. Still, she has her “diva moments.”

“My diva moments are more tied to panicky worry,” Kaling, 35, says. “[My assistant] will have prepared everything for a day and then that morning, I wake up and I’m like, ‘I don’t want to do any of that; it has to be completely different.’ But I don’t throw hairbrushes at people or anything like that. I haven’t gotten there yet.”

Yet, she also says she is very influenced by what she sees other people wearing.

“I think I’m very susceptible [to other people’s style],” she says. “We’ll have someone like Laura Dern on the show, and I’ll see what she’s wearing, and I’m just like, ‘OK, well, that’s obviously the way you should dress.’ Or I’ll meet some cool actress who only wears Helmut Lang and Vince, and I’m like ‘Ugh! That looks amazing and chic and everything coordinates with everything and I need to get, like, a ratty T-shirt.’ I love fashion and I love clothes.”

Much to her fans’ delight, she expounded on the nature of her relationship with B.J. Novak.

“I will freely admit: My relationship with B.J. Novak is weird as hell,” she says. “He is not my boyfriend, but he is not my best friend. I guess you could describe our relationship as a ‘romantically charged camaraderie with loud arguments,’ but I don’t think Facebook would accept this as a new status.”

  • Mindy Kaling’s TV Show Gets Canceled By Fox But Hulu Might Pick It Up

Mindy Kaling’s TV Show Gets Canceled By Fox But Hulu Might Pick It Up

After months of speculation, Fox finally cancels the The Mindy Project.

Reports say that Mindy Kaling’s comedy series won’t be picked up for a fourth season at Fox.

The series, about a successful doctor who dreams of getting her personal and romantic life on track, was already facing an uncertain future.

The network considers the show’s ratings not up to broadcast standards, despite a cult following and strong online viewing and social media presence.

However, there’s still hope for loyal viewers who are dying to know what will happen next to the show’s protagonist and its cliffhanger ending.

Sources report that Universal Television is currently in talks with Hulu, which is said to be keen on taking on the Mindy Project for “multiple additional seasons.”

For a lot of people who believe the show might be better served if it’s in a digital platform, Hulu is the perfect choice for a new home.

The online streaming service already carries past seasons of the Mindy Project and is also dead set on expanding its original lineup with series like J.J Abrams’ 11/22/63 and Jason Reitman’s Casual.

However, Hulu and Fox have remained tight-lipped about the news, neither confirming any cancellations or renewals.

But the Internet is not taking the news of the cancellation lightly.

Eonline.com has asked fans to help save the Mindy Project with an article listing 11 reasons why another network (like Hulu) should save the show.

    The website also wrote:

“Dear Fellow Fans: Let’s Tweet and Facebook and Snapchat and carrier pigeon this story to everyone you know, asking them to share it with the hashtag #HuluSaveMindy. Let’s get it trending so Hulu hears us loud and clear!”

But even before this call to action appeared, fans have already started to vent their anger at Fox on Twitter, while imploring Hulu to pick up their favorite show.

  • Chrissy Teigen Subject of Racist Rant

Chrissy Teigen was the subject of a racist rant on Thursday as she was walking down the street in West Hollywood. The Sports Illustrated model was simply enjoying her morning stroll when the incident took place.

People are outraged by the way the wife of singer John Legend was treated. Some celebrities have come to her support on social media–including Mindy Kaling and Parks and Recreation star Retta.

Chrissy Teigen shared word of the hateful–and no doubt hurtful–experience via social media. In fact, she wrote a total of four tweets describing the incident.

Chrissy Teigen is of both Norwegian and Thai descent. The comments the heckler made were definitely racist.

Mindy Kaling had the following reply to one of Chrissy Teigen’s tweets.

The Parks and Recreation actress tweeted her thoughts as well.

It’s shocking to hear these kinds of racist comments being made in light of all that has been done to educate and raise awareness on the subject in recent decades. It’s sad that Chrissy Teigen was the victim of such hate.

  • Mindy Kaling’s Brother Identified Himself As Black to Get Into Medical School

Mindy Kaling‘s brother is claiming he self-identified himself as black in order to get in to medical school after being wait-listed at several schools.

According to Vijay Chokal-Ingam, the older brother of Mindy Kaling, he checked his race as black on medical school applications in 1998 and 1999 to make a point against affirmative action.

Chokal-Ingam said he felt compelled to try a different approach when he found himself wait-listed at University of Pennsylvania, Washington University and Mt. Sinai.

“Would you rather accept racism or defy those who want to discriminate against you? I chose the latter and applied to medical school as black,” Chokal-Ingam posted on his website Almost Black.

“I shaved my head, trimmed my long Indian eyelashes, and applied to medical school as a black man. My change in appearance was so startling that my own fraternity brothers didn’t recognize me at first. I even joined the Organization of Black Students,” Chokal-Ingam – who is Indian-American – said.

After applying as a black man, he received acceptance letters from medical programs including Columbia University, Cornell University, George Washington University, Vanderbilt University and more.

Mindy Kaling’s brother apparently wanted to make a point against affirmative action and calls himself an “affirmative action hacktivist.”

“Let me clear about one thing. I never lied about anything on my application, except my race. Everything else on my application can be verified as correct. I didn’t even claim that I was ‘disadvantaged,’” said Chokal-Ingam.

Kaling’s Los Angeles-based brother says he is also working on a book about affirmative action and his stance against the practice.

“I am writing this book to show my opposition to affirmative action discrimination, specifically at my alma mater UCLA but in the American education system in general,” he wrote on his website.

According to a source for People magazine, Mindy Kaling and her brother are estranged.

“I love my sister to death,” Chokal-Ingam told the New York Post. “She says this will bring shame on the family.”

“My sister Mindy Kaling (Vera Mindy Chokalingam), of The Mindy Project and Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, strongly disapproves of my book,” he wrote on his blog.

“She actually said, ‘This book will bring shame on our family.’ The rest of my family does not agree with the book. Still, they respect my right to make my own decisions with my career,” he added.

Chokal-Ingam went on to attend St. Louis University Medical School, but dropped out after two years. It is unclear how he identified himself in his application to the medical school.

  • Mindy Kaling’s Brother: Being ‘Black’ Got Him Into Med School

In a ruse straight out of the movie Soul Man, Mindy Kaling’s older brother posed as a black man to get into medical school.

Vijay Chokal-Ingam recently revealed that he self-identified as black on his medical school applications to give himself a better chance at getting accepted.

“I was determined to become a doctor and I knew that admission standards for certain minorities under affirmative action were, let’s say… less stringent?” Chokal-Ingam wrote in his blog Almost Black.

The Indian-American said that to look more the part, he shaved his head, trimmed what he describes as his “long Indian eyelashes” and even went so far as to join the Organization of Black Students. His transformation was so drastic that he claims even his fraternity brothers didn’t recognized him.

Chokal-Ingam was apparently convincing enough that he was soon interviewed at Columbia and HarvardUniversities and was on the waiting list of Mt.Sinai, University of Pennsylvania and WashingtonUniversity. He has even posted screenshots of medical school applications and interview invitations on his Almost Black Facebook page.

He was finally accepted to St. Louis University School of Medicine but dropped out after two years. He pulled off his so called “twisted social experiment” 15 years ago but decided to reveal it now to underline his anti-affirmative action beliefs.  Chokal-Ingam even called out his alma mater UCLA for, according to him, strengthening its affirmative-action admissions policies. Describing himself as an “affirmative action hacktivist,” Chokal-Ingram is also planning to write a memoir about his ruse, aptly titled “Almost Black.” As expected, his revelation has received a lot of backlash, with people angrily commenting on how he took advantage of the system or how he deprived a worthy black student of an opportunity. Representatives of Mindy Kaling have not issued any comment on the matter. However, Chokal-Ingam did admit that his sister didn’t approve of his actions and that they’re fighting over it. “She says this will bring shame on the family,” he admitted.

  • Kathy Griffin: Twitter Support from Kelly Osbourne and More Over ‘Fashion Police’ Exit

Kathy Griffin announced on Thursday that she was leaving Fashion Police. Following that announcement–which appeared on her Twitter feed–Griffin contacted a few close friends and asked them to show her some Twitter love in light of her resignation. Those friends were all too happy to comply.

“I’m reaching out to you because I think you will understand why I have made this decision and I am asking for your support,” Kathy Griffin wrote via an email.

“Oh, and I am nervous and scared about this … in case you’re wondering,” she added.

    The response was overwhelming.

Kelly Osbourne tweeted out the following to Kathy Griffin.

Chelsea Handler sent a tweet, too.

Even Rosie O’Donnell chimed in out of support for Kathy Griffin.

Mindy Kaling, star of The Mindy Project, offered her support as well.

Hopefully all this support helps Kathy Griffin feel better about her decision to leave Fashion Police.

So why, exactly, did she do it?

One report claims Giuliana Rancic and her diva behavior had a lot to do with both Kathy Griffin and Kelly Osbourne leaving the show.

Kathy Griffin is multi-talented and will no doubt move on to bigger and better things. It must pain her, however, to have left the show in light of having been named her dear friend Joan Rivers’ replacement.

  • Mindy Kaling Stars in Nationwide Insurance Super Bowl Ad

Mindy Kaling is appearing in her first Super Bowl ad. She is ‘an invisible force of comedy’ for Nationwide Insurance. The premise of the ad is that Nationwide doesn’t make their customers feel invisible.

“My writers and I had so much fun brainstorming ideas for this ad because it was all about wish fulfillment,” Mindy Kaling said.

The ad is directed by Doug Liman, who is best known for the Bourne film series, as well as Edge of Tomorrow and Swingers.

“All of us, even beautiful, young Hollywood celebrities like me, have been in situations where we feel invisible,” the star of The Office and The Mindy Project said.

Mindy Kaling follows in the footsteps of former Nationwide spokesperson Peyton Manning, as she fantasizes about the “ridiculous stuff you would do if you were invisible and mischievous” in the ad.

This is the first time Nationwide Insurance has had a Super Bowl ad since 2007. Their spot with Mindy Kaling is set to air during the second quarter of the game between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks.

  • Mindy Kaling Joins Lena Dunham, Kristen Wiig And Jenji Kohan At Sundance Panel

On Saturday, the Sundance Film Festival organized a panel called “Power of Story: Serious Ladies”. The panel is comprised of four of the top female creators in the industry today: Mindy Kaling of The Mindy Project, Girls’ Lena Dunham, Orange is the New Black mastermind Jenji Kohan, and Bridesmaids writer Kristen Wiig. The four talked about mastering their craft in an industry dominated mostly by men. The panel was enlightening, and considering their pedigree, also quite entertaining.

At one point, Mindy Kaling even delivered the perfect response about working in a predominantly male industry. Kaling said, “I have a personality defect where I sort of refuse to see myself as an underdog. It has gotten me into a lot of trouble, but is also the reason for my success.”

“I often am reminded of it when people ask me why I’m confident… why wouldn’t I be? It’s because my parents raised me with the entitlement of a tall, blonde, white man. That’s the way to do it, picture yourself as Armie Hammer on the outside,” Mindy Kaling quipped, referring to the blond actor known for his roles in The Social Network and The Lone Ranger.

And it seems, Mindy Kaling has a few more skills up her sleeve aside from writing and being funny. During the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Reese Witherspoon talked to Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson about Kaling’s crafting skills. “Mindy has started this thing, Wreath Witherspoon. It’s hard to say, but she was so sweet,” Witherspoon said. “She sent me one for the Oscars nomination and [it’s] just very creative. It showed her floral abilities. She also writes, directs, acts and she arranges flowers beautifully.”

Reese Witherspoon posted a photo on her Instagram that shows the wreath hanging on the front door of her home. It looks like Mindy Kaling has another thing to add on her resume.

  • Mindy Kaling Sends Reese Witherspoon a ‘Wreath Witherspoon’ for Oscar Nod

Mindy Kaling sent pal Reese Witherspoon a wreath for her Oscar nod for her role in Wild. When she shared an Instagram photo of the gift with her followers, it became a bit of a trend. Since then, The Mindy Project star’s gift has circulated the internet as the ‘Wreath Witherspoon.’

The pink and purple floral arrangement is adorned with golden Oscar statues and a photo of Reese.

This isn’t the first Wreath Witherspoon, however. The trend began when Mindy Kaling hung a ‘Wreath Witherspoon’ on the Christmas episode of The Mindy Project. Fans got in on the act, creating wreaths of their own to share on social media.

“I was happy that that caught on so much,” Mindy said in a recent interview with Access Hollywood at the People Magazine Awards on December 18.

“That was cool because when we shot that scene, it was a little part of the scene…and Reese Witherspoon’s a good actress. We like her,” Mindy Kaling said.

When Reese Witherspoon got wind of the decor made in her honor, she Instagrammed an adorable Christmas message peeking through the center of a wreath on Christmas Day, captioning it, “Wishing y’all a very merry, peaceful, and family-filled Christmas!!! Sincerely, #WreathWitherspoon.. (couldn’t resist…@MindyKaling”

Reese Witherspoon dubbed Mindy Kaling’s most recent Wreath Witherspoon the best gift ever. She shared the Oscar nomination gift via Instagram as well, as it hung proudly on her front door.

    “I mean… C’mon! Best gift ever ! Thanks @mindykaling for my #WreathWitherspoon #Oscar edition. #YesItsOnMyFrontDoor,” she captioned the shot.

Can you think of someone who might like to receive a Wreath Witherspoon from you? Has Mindy Kaling perhaps started a new and very creative trend among Hollywood’s finest?

Mindy Kaling stunned her fans and everyone in attendance with her brand new hair color when she strutted down the red carpet during last Saturday’s TCA All-Star Party thrown by the good guys at FOX Network. The funny girl of The Mindy Project got a honey blonde ombre coloring job that made heads turn during the event.

The 35-year-old actress was wearing her “Vegas Showgirl-Showrunner” look during the event, donning a shiny gold blazer that highlighted her new hairdo. “I sort of felt like blond hair should just not be for Caucasian women,” Mindy Kaling explained during her interview with E! News.

“It’s just something I’ve wanted to do the past couple of months,” the actress said. “I was like, why not?”

Who inspired Mindy Kaling to go forth with this fashion forward look? It was none other than Rihanna, who has been shifting freely from blonde to brunette like it’s nobody’s business. Kaling admired how the blonde look suited nicely to the Barbados-native R&B superstar.

Fans of the comedian hailed Mindy Kaling’s new look after she posted it on Instagram. “I’m blonde now guys, deal with it,” she captioned her stunning snap before she hit the red carpet. It remains unknown whether her new look will make it to her hilarious hit show. “I think she will,” she said. “At least I didn’t run it by anybody, I hope that’s OK!”

Will her new look inspire a long list of suitors just like her character on The Mindy Project? Kaling admitted that she’s not rushing romance just yet. In this month’s issue of Good Housekeeping, the comedian spoke about waiting for the right time: “I don’t need marriage. I don’t need anyone to take care of all my needs and desires. I can take care of them myself now.” Sorry, boys. Looks like this star doesn’t care much for romance just yet.

  • Emma Watson, a UN Goodwill Ambassador, Named Top Feminist Celebrity of the Year

Emma Watson, a UN Goodwill Ambassador, Named Top Feminist Celebrity of the Year

Emma Watson was named the top feminist celebrity of the year by the Ms. Foundation and Cosmopolitan.com. She was chosen by the public in an online survey.

As a UN Goodwill Ambassador, Watson helped found the HeForShe Campaign this year, for which she gave a rousing speech urging men to take up the feminist cause, telling them, “gender equality is your issue, too.”

The recently single Watson, a Brown University graduate with a degree in English Literature, explained her reasons for advocating for the feminist movement during the speech.

“I started questioning gender-based assumptions when at eight I was confused at being called ‘bossy,’ because I wanted to direct the plays… When at 14 I started being sexualized by certain elements of the press. When at 15 my girlfriends started dropping out of their sports teams because they didn’t want to appear ‘muscly.’ When at 18 my male friends were unable to express their feelings.”

Watson went on to say gender equality is not just a fight for women.

“..in the UK suicide is the biggest killer of men between 20-49 years of age; eclipsing road accidents, cancer and coronary heart disease. I’ve seen men made fragile and insecure by a distorted sense of what constitutes male success. Men don’t have the benefits of equality either. We don’t often talk about men being imprisoned by gender stereotypes but I can see that that they are and that when they are free, things will change for women as a natural consequence.”

The complete list includes Emma Watson, Laverne Cox, Rachel Maddow, Beyoncé, Cher, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Meryl Streep, Mindy Kaling and Ann Curry.

“We celebrate all feminists every day, but today we’re giving a hat tip to celebrities who are helping to promote women’s equality,” Ms. Foundation President Teresa Younger said in a statement. “Every celebrity on the list has either embraced the term ‘feminist,’ spoken out for women’s equal rights or battled against sexist oppression.”

  • Mindy Kaling Mistaken for Malala Yousafzai by Old Man

Malala Yousafzai is 17 years old. She is Pakistani, a survivor of a gunshot wound to the face from the Taliban, and a hero to girls throughout the world. Her first name has become a household word in multiple countries.

Mindy Kaling is an American actress whose parents come from India. She is well-known for her role on the American version of The Office, as well as her own show, The Mindy Project. She is 35.

They both have caramel-colored skin and dark hair. Mindy is no doubt a delightful person, but she is not Malala Yousafzai. But you could’ve fooled that “tipsy man in his 80s” who cornered her at the New Yorker Festival earlier this month.

Kaling was at the event for a live festival Q&A with New Yorker writer Emily Nussbaum. Other celebrities and notable persons interviewed during the Festival included Neil Young, Lena Dunham, Edward Snowden (via video), Bill HAder, Stephen Sondheim, Seth Rogen, Larry David, and Kim Dotcom (also via video).

After the onstage interview at the festival, Kaling headed to an after-event party at the Top of the Standard, a rooftop bar better known as the Boom Boom Room. It was packed with guests like novelist Zadie Smith, writer Malcolm Gladwell and New Yorker editor-in-chief David Remnick

“Who are all these people?” Kaling wondered at the non-Hollywood crowd she had stumbled into.

Apparently she was a bit difficult to recognize for some of them.

“Congratulations on your Nobel Prize,” the aforementioned “tipsy man in his 80s” told Kaling.

The man seemed amazed at how well Kaling/Malala had recovered form the gunshots to the face she had received at the hands of the Taliban two years earlier.

After a bit more chitchat, during which Kaling never bothered to try to disabuse the poor fellow of his mistaken notion, he swayed off into the room.

“Did he really think I’m Malala?” she said when the man had gone. “And that if I were, I’d be at the Boom Boom Room?

“That’s the best thing that’s happened all night.”
