  • Julia Roberts to Produce, Star in Feature Film About ‘Batkid,’ the 5-Year-Old Cancer Patient Who Captured the World’s Heart

Julia Roberts is bringing the heartwarming real-life story of “Batkid” to the big screen, producing and starring in a film about five-year-old leukemia patient Miles Scott.

Julia Roberts will tell the story of little Miles, who captured the hearts of people around the world in November 2013, when his Make-A-Wish dream was realized when San Francisco was transformed into Gotham City so the little guy, who is now said to be in remission, could defend the city.

Julia Robert’s movie will be a remake of director Dana Nachman’s documentary Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard Around the World, which made its debut at the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, on Saturday.

Nachman’s documentary chronicles the day 25,000 San Francisco residents and celebrities, including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Ben Affleck and President Barack Obama, helped make 5-year-old Miles’ day by participating in his costumed adventure.

Nachman will continue to tell Miles’ story by serving as an executive producer on the remake.

“It’s thrilling to me that Ms. Roberts and her team watched our film and were so moved by it that they want to dedicate their time and creative capital to make sure the widest audience possible will know and love Miles’ story and the spirit of this intimate special event that went global, as much as we do,” Nachman told Variety.

  • Batkid Returns To Help Out The Giants

Batkid Returns To Help Out The Giants

Batkid, otherwise known as Miles Scott, returned to his public on Tuesday when he helped the San Francisco Giants throw out the first pitch.

Scott made headlines last year when he received a gift from the Make-A-Wish Foundation that saw him become Batman for the day while San Francisco was turned into Gotham City. The adorable 5-year old is a cancer survivor and has won the hearts of the city; he received a standing ovation from the crowd at AT&T Park.

Scott made headlines last month when a rumor began floating around online that he was cut from a segment at the Oscars because Andrew Garfield–who was supposed to do a presentation with him–backed out after a disagreement with producers over his lines.

“The academy was going to make him an official superhero during the Oscar ceremony. Andrew Garfield was going to appoint him ‘Batkid.’ But, in the middle of the dress rehearsal, Garfield decided he didn’t like his lines,” said a source. “Garfield refused to go by the script. He came up with his own lines. The producers felt that Garfield’s [rewrites] were not appropriate. Garfield had a tantrum. He stormed off. Miles and his family, who were at the rehearsal, were devastated.”

However, Garfield’s reps released a statement saying that was not the case at all, and that Miles and his family were sent to Disneyland for the day after his segment was cut due to a production decision.

“In full collaboration with the Academy and the show writer, Andrew prepared a segment for the Oscars to honor Miles Scott as the true hero that he is. As some point overnight on Saturday / Sunday morning, it was decided by those running the show that the segment didn’t work in the ceremony. They decided to pull it – Andrew and Miles were equally upset. The producers arranged for Miles and his family to visit Disneyland on Monday and Andrew drove down to visit them and to bring Miles a personal gift. Andrew did the right thing for Batkid and anyone saying otherwise is flat out lying,” the statement said.

  • San Francisco Batkid Throws First Pitch at Giants Game

Miles Scott, better known as the famous Batkid, made a grand appearance Tuesday at the Giants stadium in California.

The 5-year-old boy, whose leukemia is on remission, became San Francisco’s superhero in 2013 through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The Greater Bay Area made a rendition of Gotham City and designed a stage of crimes where Batkid had to save the day, including the team’s mascot, Lou Seal, and a damsel in distress. President Obama left Batkid an endearing video message and the mayor even presented the miniature superhero with keys to the city.

Ever since then, Batkid’s stardom has taken off.

Tuesday’s event, however, was more of a celebration for the Giants’ home opener and game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Batkid was chosen as the honorary pitcher for the team and had the chance to throw out the first pitch during the ceremony.

He arrived at the park in a Batmobile styled Lamborghini, which he helped steer inside the arena.

Check out this Vine showing his impressive entrance:

As Batkid exited from the driver’s seat, he fixed his superhero helmet and waved to the roaring crowd. He was then greeted by baseball player and Giants pitcher Matt Cain and was led to the mound.

While alongside his partner Batman, he threw the first pitch.

It bounced off the ground a few times before making it to Cain, but there’s no denying that the kid has a strong arm for his age!

Cain and Batkid ended their bonding moment with some final snapshots and then San Francisco’s superhero fist pumped goodbye to the crowd.
