  • Meshach Taylor: ‘Designing Women’ Star Dies at 67

    Meshach Taylor, best known for his role as the lovable ex-con in Designing Women, died Saturday after a bout with cancer. He was 67.

    Taylor was under hospice care and surrounded by his wife, children and mother, when he passed away at his home in Altadena, California. His son told the Los Angeles Times the Mannequin actor died at 10:47 p.m.

    The family posted on the Emmy-nominated actor’s Facebook page Friday that his health had started to decline.

    “It is with love and gratitude that we sorrowfully announce that our darling, amazingly brilliant and dynamic Meshach, the incredible father, husband, son and friend has begun his grand transition,” they wrote.

    “Our friends who know and love us, please offer your prayers for his peace and blazing light as he ascends to the heavens. Those who need to call the family please do. Those who desire to post memories, we are open and graciously accepting all gestures of peace. Love, the Taylor family.”

    The Boston native began his career as a member of Chicago’s Goodman Theatre. Further down his career path, he received an Emmy nomination for his portrayal of Anthony Bouvier on Designing Women from 1986 to 1993 and followed that with four seasons on Dave’s World.

    Other series in which he starred include Buffalo Bill and Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide. He also guest-starred on TV series including Criminal Minds, The Unit, Hannah Montana and The Drew Carey Show.

    His movie roles include playing a flamboyant window dresser in Mannequin and an appearance in Damien: The Omen Part II.

  • Meshach Taylor of ‘Designing Women’ Dead at 67

    Meshach Taylor, best know for his role on Designing Women, has died at the age of 67. The actor was in hospice care at his home, having suffered from cancer, and he died on Friday in the presence his wife, his children, and his mother.

    Taylor played the lovable assistant Anthony Bouvier on Designing Women. The show was about an outspoken feminist–played by Delta Burke–who ran a design firm out of her Atlanta home. The show ran from 1986 to 1993. In addition to Taylor and Burke Designing Women starred Dixie Carter, Annie Potts and Jean Smart. It was nominated for a string of awards throughout the years including two Golden Globes. It won an Emmy in 1988 for Outstanding Achievement in Hairstyling. Meshach Taylor received an Emmy Award nomination in the Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category in 1989.

    Taylor’s son Tariq Taylor shared word of his father’s passing on the actor’s Facebook page.

    Meshach Taylor performed in a number of TV roles including ALF, The Incredible Hulk, and Dave’s World. He will forever be best remembered in Hollywood as Anthony Bouvier.

    Meshach Taylor was born in Boston and went on to graduate from Florida A&M University before heading to Hollywood to pursue his love of acting. He is survived by his wife Bianca, whom he married back in 1983. He is also survived by their three daughters–Tamar, Esme, and Yasmine–and one son Tariq, as well as four grandchildren.
