  • Best Car Deals Memorial Day Weekend: Chrysler, Nissan, And Ford

Looking to buy a car this Memorial Day weekend? Want to get the best deal?

Look no further than the Kelley Blue Book.

24/7 Wall Street News said that, according to them, the best deal is the $3,250 cash-back offered if you buy a 2014 Chrysler 300. Coming in at second is the 36-month lease on a 2014 Nissan Altima.

Third? $5,000 cash back on Ford’s 2014 Expedition SUV.

Noticeably absent from the list is the General Motors company. In the words of the article they “did not have any vehicles in KBB’s top ten holiday weekend deals. Clearly the company is feeling a bit pinched following its latest recalls and may be testing whether it can still command full price for its vehicles.”

Dealers are also turning to the Kelley Blue Book to form the basis of any local deals that will come to your area for the weekend.

Cars themselves aren’t the only thing you can get a great deal on this weekend. Time Magazine ran a list of the best deals this Memorial Day. On it? Car accessories. “Car owners can save a fortune on oil, batteries, parts and washing materials during Memorial Day weekend,” PromotionalCodes said. AutoZone and other car supply stores are expected to lower their prices and offer great deals.

Not sure what your car needs? AAMCO has offered a checklist for your car before you drive off to get a deal anywhere:

Battery: Prevent failure by replacing a car battery that’s more than five years old.
Engine Oil: Increase mileage by up to two percent by using the manufacturer’s recommended grade of oil during suggested oil change intervals.
Service: Improve mileage by up to 10 percent on simple fixes and up to 40 percent by addressing any major unperformed maintenance or mechanical issues, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
Tires: Enhance gas mileage by up to three percent by properly inflating tires to the manufacturer’s specification.

Not to mention all the other stores and outlets offering deals over the long weekend. It looks like, as usual, for this Memorial Day, you deck out your car and you can deck out you.

  • Bay Bridge Closure: Ready for Labor Day Weekend

A San Francisco ABC News local affiliate reported that the San Francisco Bay Bridge is going to be closed down for five days with all commuting traffic between San Francisco and Oakland detoured to other routes by the California Highway Patrol.

During the closure, BART will be running its transit system 24 hours a day with hourly scheduled overnight trains covering 14 stations. BART’s traffic increased by 30 percent the last time the bridge was closed.

BART’s spokesperson, Jim Allison, said that on “Thursday and Friday it’s going to be very busy so we’re encouraging people to either use the ferries or modify their plans not to travel in the peak 8-8:30 in the morning and 5-5:30 in the afternoon.”

If you want to drive yourself and need to get around the gridlock, ABC’s Waze traffic flow app for your smartphone may help you navigate the commute more smoothly, and the more people who use it, the more accurate the traffic data will be.

The San Francisco Bay Bridge sees nearly 300,000 vehicles a day, and this weekend would be the fourth time in seven years that the bridge had to be shut down. The spokesman for the bridge, Andrew Gordon, said that the new crossing will open either late Monday or early on Tuesday, but exact details have yet to be hammered out.

The California Department of Transportation or Caltrans, has said that they will begin tearing down the old span bridge piece by piece. In nine months, most Californians will notice the old bridge mostly gone; however, to remove the entire foundation down to the mud line would take an additional two years after the bridge’s removal.

The “chain-cutting ceremony” that would officially re-open the bridge is scheduled for 3 pm on Labor Day, but Governor Jerry Brown (D-CA) will not be present, instead choosing to be with his wife in Michigan.

The AP via the Denver Post has some advice from the spokesman from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, John Goodwin, who advises commuters to simply “be patient, wherever you’re going… The Bay Area keeps moving. It just becomes more sluggish.”

  • Gas Prices: Lower Cost Means More Travelers on the Road This Weekend

Gas Prices: Lower Cost Means More Travelers on the Road This Weekend

Gas prices, while still relatively high, are a bit lower than they have been over the past few months. This could result in more people are filling up the family car and heading out for fun, adventures, and sunburns over Memorial Day Weekend. According to AAA, the average gas price in the United States if $3.67, which, when compared to where it has been, is not too shabby, especially for prospective travelers.

All of this handy information was compiled by the folks who put together the IBM Social Sentiment Index, which aggregates information culled from various social networking sites, including message boards, tweets, and blogs. Apparently all of the chatter indicates that people are ready to hit the road this weekend. This, of course, is definitely a good thing, as it helps dump some much needed money into the economy.

Those of you living on the West Coast are probably shaking your heads right about now, and that’s understandable. Prices on that side of the country at still hovering around $4.22, though analysts seem to think that costs will drop toward the lower end of the spectrum throughout the summer. It’s a good start, though it’s still not fantastic.

However, despite all of this talk about lower prices and extensive travel over the holiday weekend, people on Twitter are still feeling the pinch at the gas pumps. In fact, the way some of them talk, you’d think all of this hoopla over lower prices was just an elaborate rouse to get you out of the house with wallet and credit card in-hand. And if you listen to the boys and girls over at Fox News, the lower prices are the sign of an impending economic crisis. It would seem those people are never happy. Check out some gas-related Tweets below.

Be thankful for Facebook, the way gas prices are headed we may never actually see each other again.
