  • Matt Schaub Traded From Texans To Raiders

Matt Schaub Traded From Texans To Raiders

The Raiders have struggled greatly over the past several seasons, and as a result, they are in dire need of a new quarterback. Matt Schaub has been traded to the Raiders in exchange for a 6th-round pick, but who benefits from the trade is also in question.

The Texans and Raiders are both in serious need of a quarterback, and Matt Schaub, while once a franchise quarterback for the Texans, struggled greatly in the 2013 season. Whether he will be able to help the Raiders is uncertain, but perhaps a new environment will be all that he needs to succeed.

The Oakland Raiders have consistently been one of the worst teams in the league, and are coming off of their second four win season in a row. They tried out both Terrelle Pryor and Matt McGloin throughout the 2013 season, and while Pryor had a bit of success at first, neither quarterback could give the team success on the season.

Matt Schaub got off to one of the worst starts of any quarterback in 2013, after setting an NFL record for the worst kind of interceptions, and threw a pick-six in four games in a row. However, Schaub did have great success with the Texans up until last year, and led the Texans to AFC South Division titles in 2011, and 2012.

Before the awful season for the Houston Texans could come to a close, they decided to fire their coach, Gary Kubiak. He has since been hired as the offensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens, a team that struggled to score last season.

Schaub, who has a $14.5 million salary-cap figure and a $10 million base salary for 2014, was forced off of the Texans roster after the signing of Ryan Fitzpatrick on Thursday.

Matt Schaub is looking for a fresh start, and believes that he can have success with the Raiders. Speaking on the change, he said “Last year did not go as I had planned, given my prior nine years before that. I’m looking for a fresh start, I’m excited for the opportunity here.”

Coach Dennis Allen also said that the quarterback position is the most important, and feels that Schaub has what it takes to lead his team, which has struggled in every aspect of the game in recent years. Despite his performance last year, he is a two-time Pro Bowl quarterback, and has passed for over 4,000 yards in three different seasons.

Acquiring a player like Matt Schaub in a trade allows the Raiders to think about other positions in the draft, and with the No.5 overall pick, their options are wide open. Who should they pick?

  • Houston Texans Fire Coach Gary Kubiak

Houston Texans Fire Coach Gary Kubiak

Well, anyone who has been following the NFL at all this year would have certainly been able to see this one coming. Gary Kubiak, the coach of the Houston Texans, was fired today.

The Texans had a chance of going to the Super Bowl coming into the season, and those aspirations were shut down quickly as the team proved to be a completely different team than that of last year. While they won their first two games, and seemed to be doing okay, the Texans quickly became the worst team in the league after losing the next 11 games.

Their most recent loss came last night against the Jacksonville Jaguars, who have had about the opposite of the Texans’ record, after having won their past three games.

The Texans have also switched around quarterbacks multiple times over the season, and while Matt Schaub was benched earlier in the season, he came back in the third quarter as his replacement Case Keenum has continued to struggle.

Schaub started the season in the worst way possible, and got lots of hate from the fans as a result. In week 5, he even set the record for interceptions after throwing a pick six in four straight games.

Typically, teams wait until the end of the season to fire their coach but under the circumstances, the Texans staff felt that something needed to be done right away. Bob McNair, the owner of the team, said of the situation “This has been a very disappointing year. We started with such high hopes. To have this string of losses is unacceptable.”

In addition to the disappointing season that the Houston Texans have been forced to endure, Kubiak is also a bit of a risk to keep around after leaving the field during halftime of their loss against the Colts with a mini-stroke. He only missed one game, but that could be a factor as well.

Before being fired, Gary Kubiak was the fourth-longest tenured coach in the league, behind only Bill Belichick, Marvin Lewis and Tom Coughlin.

After the Houston Texans have lost almost every game this season, the firing of Gary Kubiak was something that fans had been expecting for a number of weeks. They have secured themselves in the last spot in the league, and with the Colts and Broncos as two of their final three opponents, it doesn’t look as if that will be changing before the season ends.

Wade Philips will serve as the interim head coach of the Houston Texans until a replacement can be found. As they will end up the worst team in the league, they will also have a shot at the top quarterbacks in college football. Who should they choose?

  • Arian Foster Is Injured, Out Against Cardinals

Arian Foster is definitely out for the upcoming game against the Arizona Cardinals, and his injury be more serious than expected. His back injury could require season-ending surgery, which would diminish an already struggling Texans team even further.

He seems determined to play without needing surgery, but that may not be an option at this point.

Foster is the star running back for the Houston Texans, and a graduate of Tennessee. As a key asset to the Texans team, he would be very missed if he is out for the remainder of the season, as he touched the ball more than any other back in the NFL from 2010-2012. He injured his back on Houston’s first drive against the Colts in their previous game.

The Texans came into the season with hopes of making the Super Bowl, following a successful run in the playoffs last season. Their season has been anything but successful this year, and have struggled in every sense of the game, with a record of 2-6. They started the season off 2-0, and have lost every game since. To add to the drama, their coach Gary Kubiak also collapsed on the field during the same game.

Before Foster’s injury, quarterback Matt Schaub started off with a very difficult time having any success, and they were forced to turn to another option with Case Keenum. He even set an NFL record earlier this year after throwing a pick six in four consecutive games.

Despite their disappointing season, Arian Foster has continued to show off his star power and was on a bit of a roll before injuring his back. He had averaged 113 yards per game in three consecutive losses to Seattle, San Francisco, and St. Louis. The young running back was also second in the NFL in rushing prior to his injury.

It was reported on Friday that Arian Foster is seeking several opinions on his back problems, according to a source informed of the running back’s injuries, reports NFL insider Ian Rapoport. He is battling a lumber spine issue, and understands that surgery could be a likely option.

  • Matt Schaub Struggles In Loss, Sets Pick Six Record

Matt Schaub, the quarterback for the Houston Texans, has been struggling as of lately. After their latest game against the 49ers, he set the NFL record for interceptions after throwing a pick six in four straight games. The Texans were one of the top teams in the league last year and while they still have all of their same all-star players including Arian Foster and Andre Johnson, the team has a lackluster record of only 2-3.

Schaub has had a successful run with the Texans and lead the team to the playoffs in 2011 and 2012. However, this season has proved to be much different, and many of the fans are blaming Schaub’s performance for the team’s awful record. The season started out good enough, with Schaub leading the Texans to a comeback victory in week 1 against the Chargers, but things have certainly gone downhill from there.

Schaub’s first pass of the night against the 49ers was picked off on Sunday night. The Chicago Tribune mentions that the pass was picked off by Tramaine Brock and returned for a touchdown, making Schaub the first NFL quarterback to throw a pick six in four consecutive games. As if that embarrassing statistic is not enough, it was only his 1st of 3 interceptions of the night and he had 0 touchdowns. The whole team struggled in a terrible loss, that ended 34-3.

Schaub was eventually replaced by the backup, T.J. Yates, late in the game. After his awful performance, it is no wonder that he was benched by the end of the game, but head coach Gary Kubiak says that Schaub will remain as the starter. He said “This has to be rock bottom,” assuring fans that he has to improve and knows that they will be able to salvage the season. For now, he still beileves that Schaub is the best option, but how long will that view last? The Texans face off against the Rams next week, which should be a bit of an easier match-up, and give Schaub a chance to shine again.

Houston is now on their first 3 game skid since the end of 2011, a team that had high hopes of making the Super Bowl. T.J Yates has proved that he could play, after replacing Schaub after an injury in 2011, and the Texans may be forced to turn to him if Schaub’s play continues to struggle. Some frustrated fans even burned Schaub’s jersey after their loss to the Seahawks.

  • Houston Texans Rally From 21 Down, Defeat Chargers

In what seemed like an insurmountable task, after being down 21 points in the third quarter, the Houston Texans were able to put up a fight and beat the San Diego Chargers. The Texans and Chargers played second in a Monday Night Football doubleheader in order to kickoff the season. This followed a tough game between the Eagles and Redskins, which the Eagles won. Quarterback Matt Schaub finished with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception, while their star receiver Andre Johnson had over 100 yards receiving on the day, in order to lead them to victory. The game ended with a final score of 31-28 after the Texans scored 17 unanswered points in the 4th quarter.

When talking about the game and how they were able to come back, Schaub simply said “Momentum keeps building, and you can feel that energy, and it’s contagious.” When players start to work together, it seems that sometimes they are able to come back from any deficit. After back-to-back division titles and playoff trips, the Texans have plenty of experience in handling troubles during a game together, says CBS Sports. The veteran Schaub is able to provide the leadership that a younger team like this needs in order to comeback in a big game, and they really rallied together in order to win this game.

They opened the season in San Diego too, which naturally made the comeback even more impressive. The Texans are led by head coach Gary Kubiak, who has created quite a reputation in the league in recent years, completely turning around the Texans program. The Chargers are playing under new coach Mike McCoy, replacing Norv Turner, who experienced an embarrassing season last year. In what looked like a great start to his career as a coach, the Chargers could not hold on and fell apart after halftime, like they did in several of their games last year.

The defensive star of the Texans, Brian Cushing, returned an interception toward the end of the game in order to tie it up with 9:30 left in the game. Randy Bullock kicked a 41-yard field goal as time expired to give the Texans the win. Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers threw for four touchdowns in the game, giving fans a very impressive start to the season, according to Fox Sports. However, that was simply not enough, and Rivers will need to avoid throwing interceptions, which plagued him last season, if they want to become a team with can compete with the rest of the league again.
