  • Ant-Man Star Michael Douglas Has Never Done a Special Effects Film Before

Ant-Man Star Michael Douglas Has Never Done a Special Effects Film Before

Michael Douglas has never done a film like Ant-Man. In a career that has seen such memorable roles, it seems odd that the veteran actor never had the opportunity to do a big-budget action film with special effects.

Douglas said of Ant-Man, “It’s the first time I’ve ever done a special effects movie of any kind. It was a lot of fun. I’ve been looking forward to someone asking me to do one.”

Couldn’t someone have scooped up Douglas to do a film like Ant-Man back in the 80s or 90s? He had done plenty of swashbuckling action in films like Romancing the Stone and Jewel of the Nile. Douglas says he would have done an Ant-Man or other special effects film, but there was one problem.

“Problem is, they couldn’t have afforded me! They really base these movies on one casting lady. One person at Marvel has done that, and when you look back she has done a really amazing job. She also picks people, like Robert Downey Jr. who had to insure his own part in Iron Man, so they either sprinkle it with a guest star but the leads are new talent so their ‘above the line’ is not that much.”

Now that he has had a chance to do a film like Ant-Man, which his son tells him will open him to a whole new audience, he is enthusiastic about the whole process.

“New respect to people who act in these movies, who trust the storyboards. It’s a big studio picture, big budgets. I guess different to a lot of the independents or character-driven movies i’ve done. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I found it very interesting. It put a new perspective on everything. It was amazing when I saw the movie.”

  • Natalie Portman to Play Female Thor?

Natalie Portman to Play Female Thor?

Natalie Portman has been making headlines lately for a new film that she is in with Johnny Depp’s daughter, Lily Rose. That film is called Planetarium and is actually a French film. Natalie Portman and her husband live in France, and this is not her first French film.

That film is set in the 1930sm and is directed by French director Rebecca Zlotowski.

But Natalie Portman is quietly rumored to be looking down the barrel — or hammer handle — of another possible role in the future.

What Marvel announced back in October that it was rolling out a female Thor, fans lit up. It has been eight issues now, and fans were not disappointed.

And now the big secret is out that the female Thor is none other than Jane Foster.

“I mean, it was never just about the surprise or the mystery. Clearly I’ve had fun playing with that part of it over the course of these eight issues [since we introduced the new Thor]. But that’s really all just setup for the real story. And Jane was the one I had a story with, whose story I wanted to tell,” writer Jason Aaron told Vulture. “She’s grown and changed and evolved a lot over the years, become a doctor in her own right. So this to me is not just the next step for her character, but really the next evolution of the core promise that has always been at the heart of Thor’s mythology.”

And, in case you haven’t put two and two together on this, Jane Foster is the character played by Natalie Portman in the currently running Marvel series of films.

Does that mean that Natalie Portman might be suiting up and swinging a hammer sometime soon? Time will tell.

  • Rosario Dawson May Be Joining More Marvel Shows On Netflix

Rosario Dawson is set to appear on the second season of Daredevil next year, but fans will be happy to know that she may be showing up on crossovers as well.

Daredevil, AKA Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders are all coming to Netflix in the near future, and Marvel announced this week that Dawson’s agreement with the company means she could be involved in any of those shows as Claire Temple.

“After working with Rosario in the first season, we knew instantly that we had to have her back for our second. Claire Temple proved a fan favorite in Season 1, and we can’t wait for fans to see all the plans we have for her next,” said executive producer Jeph Loeb.

According to ScreenRant, Dawson isn’t the only actor who may be involved with crossovers for the many comic-based shows coming to Netflix.

Ultimately, Dawson’s expanding role and crossover potential is only one example of how Marvel aims to capitalize on its complex, interconnected universe. With a Defenders television event in the works, rumors that Doctor Strange will appear in Iron Fist before his own film, and the recently announced superhero line-up for Captain America: Civil War (Avengers 2.5?), the possibilities are endless in terms of how the studio can further coalesce its characters and story lines to create a truly comic book experience.

One of the many upsides to Netflix original programming is that every episode is available at once, meaning fans can binge-watch at their leisure. That may be the case with some recently cancelled network shows once they are added to Netflix’s content, as viewers are learning today that some of their favorite sitcoms and dramas have gotten the ax. Not only that, some shows are simply ending and will see the entire series go up on sites like Hulu (Mindy is reportedly one of those shows). For a shortlist of programs that didn’t make the cut, go here.

  • Olivia Munn Will Play X-Men’s Psylocke, She’s The Perfect Geek For The Role

Psylocke has finally arrived in the X-Men movie universe, and who better to play her than everyone’s favorite geek girl, Olivia Munn.

The news was shared by none other than X-Men director Bryan Singer who tweeted “Excited to welcome @oliviamunn as Betsy Braddock” along with a link to an Instagram photo of Munn.

The 34-year-old Munn is the perfect choice to play Psylocke. You can say the two underwent similar journeys.

Psylocke, aka Betsey Braddock, is one of the X-Men characters who have undergone sweeping changes. She initially started out as this meek character with butterfly-themed powers. Known mostly as the twin of Captain Britain, she morphed into this badass, pseudo-Asian, energy-sword wielding ninja with psychic abilities mutant that she is in the comics today.

While Munn admittedly hasn’t undergone anything as drastic as changing bodies with a Japanese assassin, she still has come a long way from her days as a co-host of G4’s nerdy but groundbreaking talk show Attack of the Show, where she reviewed movies, video games and other stuff considered too geeky to discuss on CNN.

An avid and unabashed cosplayer, Munn is also no stranger to dressing up in costumes. She has dressed up in pretty much everything, but her Wonder Woman and Slave Leia costumes are two of her most memorable and popular ones.

Munn will be joining Sophie Turner and Ben Hardy who will play Jean Grey and Angel respectively in the next installment of the franchise. X-Men: Apocalypse will also feature Rose Byrne, Nicholas Hoult, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Evan Peters who will each reprise their roles from the previous X-Men movie. Sirs Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, who played Magneto and Professor X originally, will not be returning in this outing.

X-Men: Apocalypse is slated to be released in theaters on May 2016.

  • Marvel Releases Epic Second Teaser For ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’

Marvel had us grabbing the edge of our seats when it released the second extended television teaser for Avengers: Age of Ultron.

“I just pay for everything and design everything and make everyone look cooler,” Robert Downey, Jr. declared in character as billionaire Tony Stark.

The 60-second trailer featured never-before seen footage from the movie, including scenes best reserved for theaters. Its new sound track is riveting, churning anticipation for the following clips.

“How can the Avengers possibly stop me,” Ultron asks.

The Avengers showed what they got,” answering Nick Fury’s (Samuel L. Jackson) command in roll call, starting with Stark’s Iron Man flying away from rubble. The trailer continues with Captain America (Chris Evans)  throwing a motorcycle over his head, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) fighting on foot through a forest full of enemies, The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) smashing through the city and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) batting away Captain America’s shield with his hammer, cutting aliens’ heads off. “It’s all in the swing,” he says.

“If you step out that door, you’re an Avenger,” says Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) as initiation to Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). The two characters are new addition to the Avengers team to save earth from Ultron.

The clip ends with the Black Widow pulling a “Wolverine” with blades emerging from her fists.

This morning’s Avengers trailer followed the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron character posters two weeks ago. Downey Jr. also promised “big news” earlier this month while posting his character poster via Twitter, which started fans and bloggers going haywire over the news online. The Iron Man actor also announced a contest which will take the winner to the Avengers: Age of Ultron premier in Los Angeles, California.

Avengers: Age of Ultron will release its worldwide premier in theatres on May 1.

  • Ming-Na Wen Is Glad Her Kids Like “Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” And Finally Think She’s Cool

MIng-Na Wen is the kick-butt pilot and weapons instructor, Melinda May, on the popular Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D series.

In character, MIng-Na Wen is a woman that you do not want to mess with.

Serious, matter-of-fact, and calculating, Ming-Na Wen is cool under pressure.

She gets the job done no matter what, she rarely smiles, and she is one of the reasons many on Coulson’s team aren’t dead yet.

However, Ming-Na Wen is quite possibly May’s polar opposite when she’s at home.

Apparently, it's #nationalhugday! That should be everyday! Cyber hugs to you from #AgentsofSHIELD gang!!

In fact, her character on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has shocked her children into thinking she’s actually cool. Melinda May has really won them over.

“They love the show,” Ming-Na Wen said of her children.

Ming-Na Wen said that when her son, Cooper Dominic, 9, saw the show about the Marvel Comics organization debut at San Diego Comic Con in 2013, he freaked out.

She said, “He was like, ‘Mom! I didn’t know you could fly a plane. That is so cool!’”

I wonder if Ming-Na Wen told him the truth about television magic or if she let that one slide. I would have let it slide.

Ming-Na Wen said her daughter, Michaela, 14, is especially amazed by her mother’s character on the show.

Ming-Na Wen admitted that when she’s at home, “I laugh all the time and I’m always smiling and mommy’s the one that does the cooking and mommy’s a klutz.”

Yep, that is a big difference, alright. Melinda May wouldn’t do any of those things.

Despite all of the rave reviews for her amazing performance on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Ming-Na Wen is made the happiest knowing that, for once, her kids think she’s cool.

She said, “For me, my career could be over right then and there and I’d be happy.”

What do you think of Ming-Na Wen’s real-life personality? Are you surprised?

Drea De Matteo To Join “Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D” Cast

Drea De Matteo will join the cast of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as another delightful villain.

Drea De Matteo already has lots of street cred for being able to act tough and a little rough around the edges.

I mean, come on. A girl can’t star in The Sopranos and Sons of Anarchy and not be able to pull off a dark attitude.

Drea De Matteo will take on the role of Karla Faye Gideon, who has a grudge against S.H.I.E.L.D.

Gideon will reportedly join up with Skye’s father Cal, a.k.a. Kyle MacLachlan.

But, what is known is just how awesome Drea De Matteo is and how much butt she is sure to kick on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.!

With Marvel’s Daredevil series getting ready to appear on Netflix in April, some are reminded of Karla Faye Gideon’s connection to Daredevil. That’s something to keep an eye on for sure as Drea De Matteo steps into the Marvel universe.

  • Carrie-Anne Moss Of ‘Matrix’ Fame Joins Cast Of Marvel’s ‘A.K.A Jessica Jones’

Marvel and Netflix have announced that Carrie-Anne Moss will be joining the cast of Marvel’s AKA Jessica Jones. The show is part of Netflix’s partnership with Marvel that aims to expand on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In order to set themselves apart from other Marvel TV Shows like Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. and Agent Carter, Netflix will be focusing on street-level heroes. Part of this initiative is Netflix’s upcoming Daredevil series which will also be released this year.

A.K.A. Jessica Jones is based on Marvel’s Alias comic book. The story follows Jessica Jones, a former superhero, who starts working as a private detective. News about Carrie-Anne Moss’ character is still scarce, but according to reports, she will be playing a “no-nonsense woman who could prove a powerful ally to Jessica… if Jessica doesn’t completely alienate her first”.

“Throughout her career, Carrie-Anne has embodied a wide range of characters in a compelling and relatable way and I have no doubt she will bring that talent to A.K.A. Jessica Jones,” said the show’s executive producer and showrunner Melissa Rosenberg.

Marvel’s Head of Television and noted comic book writer, Jeph Loeb, added, “Carrie-Anne has proven her ability to play complex characters with deep and layered inner lives. Her interaction with Jessica Jones will be one of the many highlights of the series.”

Carrie-Anne Moss will be joining Krysten Ritter who will be playing Jessica Jones. Other cast members include Mike Colter as Luke Cage, David Tennant as Zebediah Killgrave/Purple Man, and Rachel Taylor as Patricia Walker/Hellcat.

Moss is no stranger to genre fare having starred as Trinity in the Matrix films alongside Keanu Reeves. Considering her film and TV work, she is definitely one of the more high-profile casting choices for A.K.A. Jessica Jones. Carrie-Anne Moss was recently seen on the big screen in Paul W.S. Anderson’s Pompeii as well as the indie drama Elephant Song.

Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ Finally Gets Release Date

It’s been about a year and two months since Netflix first announced its upcoming live action Marvel shows. The first of which, Daredevil, finally has a release date, and it’s not really too far off.

Fans will be able to see the superhero in action beginning on April 10. Here’s Netflix’s description:

Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the Super Hero “Daredevil” in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City. Last week, we learned a few new details about the upcoming show. For one, it will take a realistic approach to the story. They’re shooting for something reminiscent of The Wire, as opposed to a more cartoony vibe. It will apparently be edgier than most of Marvel’s other output, but will still remain relatively family-friendly.

The show will take place in the same cinematic universe as Marvel’s movies, but will focus on a more localized story in Hell’s Kitchen. It will also be as much about Kingpin as it is about Daredevil (almost, at least).

Another villain, Bullseye, has been said to not be in the series, but it sounds like he’s probably going to make an appearance somewhere down the line. Just not in the first season.

Daredevil will eventually be followed by other Marvel shows about Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. These will all culminate in a miniseries event, The Defenders.

For one, the show will take a realistic approach to the story. They’re shooting for something reminiscent of The Wire. The relevant quotes:

“We really wanted to take our cue from [films like] The French Connection, Dog Day Afternoon, Taxi Driver, and make it very, very grounded, very gritty, very real,” DeKnight said. “We always say we would rather lean toward The Wire than what’s considered a classic superhero television show.” Added Loeb: “There aren’t going to be people flying through the sky. There are no magic hammers.”

  • Al Pacino May Star In A Future Marvel Movie

It’s no secret that screen legend Al Pacino is a big fan of Guardians of The Galaxy. Earlier this year, Pacino talked about how much he loved the film after seeing it with his children.  In an interview with MTV.com during the Toronto International Film Festival, the Scarface star simply said, “I’m ready to go to Marvel.” Well, it seems Marvel is ready for Pacino as well. In an episode of Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Pacino revealed that he has met with Marvel executives for a possible role in future films.

“I’ve met with the Marvel guy,” said Pacino, talking about the studio’s president Kevin Feige. “It’s a Marvel how things happen.” He joked. “I would imagine that either there’s something he feels is right for me…” Pacino was then interrupted by a phone call, with the actor joking that it’s probably Marvel’s people telling him to keep quiet. He said, “Every time we talk about Marvel, that’s what happens.”

Pacino also talked more about his love for Guardians of The Galaxy, admitting that he was surprised that he enjoyed it as much as he did. According to the actor, he just wanted to go see something where he could just “shut his brain off” while his children watched. “But with this movie, I was taken up,” he said. “It was inventive, funny, and strong in sound and music. The production of it, the ingenuity of it… I was really impressed.”

Pacino was also surprised that people were making a big deal about him being vocal about his love for Guardians of The Galaxy. “Why wouldn’t I like a movie like that, appreciate a movie like that? I’m not necessarily going to be in it, but there’s value to it,” he said.

Marvel recently revealed their upcoming slate of movies which includes three Avengers films as well as a sequel to Guardians of The Galaxy.

  • Krysten Ritter Makes Her Netflix Debut In Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones

Krysten Ritter Makes Her Netflix Debut In Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones

Krysten Ritter has made a name for herself over the past few years with roles in AMC’s Breaking Bad and CW’s Veronica Mars. Now the actress is entering the world of online programming with Netflix’ and Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones.

Ritter will star as the lead in A.K.A. Jessica Jones in a 13 episode series that will debut on Netflix next year. The series is based on a character that showed up in Marvel’s ALIAS comic book. The story goes that our titular hero – Jessica Jones – loses her powers and turns toward a career as a detective investigating cases involving super powers. It’s the kind of story that’s definitely better suited for television and Marvel thinks that Ritter will be the perfect vehicle to bring the Jones’ story to the small screen.

“Krysten Ritter has the type of range, spanning the comic to the tragic, that makes for the stuff of the best Marvel heroes,” said Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel’s Head of Television. “As Jessica Jones, Krysten will bring one of the most beloved new characters of the past decade to life in a way we know will delight her longtime fans and introduce her to many more.”

A.K.A. Jessica Jones is just one of many Marvel TV shows that will be hitting Netflix in the coming year. The first, a series based on Daredevil, is already filming with series based on Luke Cage and Iron Fist. The four TV series will come together in a separate TV series called The Defenders that’s looking to capitalize on Marvel’s success with The Avengers.

Ritter will make her debut as Jessica Jones at some point in 2015.

  • Krysten Ritter Set To Star As Jessica Jones in Marvel’s Latest TV Series

Krysten Ritter Set To Star As Jessica Jones in Marvel’s Latest TV Series

Krysten Ritter will return to television in Marvel’s latest Netflix series, Jessica Jones. The actress who previously graced the small screen with her roles in Breaking Bad and Don’t Trust the B— will play the titular star of the show, adding to Marvel’s television slate that already features shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the upcoming Captain America spinoff, Agent Carter.

Although Marvel hasn’t made an official announcement, Deadline reports that Ritter has been tapped to play the role after the studio had auditioned fellow actresses like True Detective’s Alexandra Daddario and Warm Bodies star, Teresa Palmer.

The Jessica Jones character debuted in the Marvel MAX imprint series Alias created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos. Jessica Jones is a former superheroine who decided to take off her mask to start a private detective agency that seeks clients who are dealing with cases with superhero connections. The series follows Jones going back to the superhero world even after she denounces her old lifestyle.

Ritter reportedly did a chemistry reading with Mike Colter who is slated to portray Luke Cage, another popular Marvel superhero.

Marvel surprised fans with their decision, as Ritter is mostly known for her comedic work in film and television work. Ritter started as a model at the age of 15 after being discovered by an agent while she was hanging out at a local shopping mall. She signed with Elite Model Management and moved to New York to establish her modeling career which saw her posing for print and television ads.

In 2003, Ritter shared the screen with Julia Roberts in Mona Lisa Smile and had appeared in several Broadway plays. Her television work expanded when she appeared on the second season of Veronica Mars. She reprised her Veronica Mars role in the film which was successfully funded through the Kickstarter website.

  • Ryan Reynolds ‘Deadpool’ Movie Happening

Ryan Reynolds has good news for Deadpool fans!

There is official confirmation that the comic book hero will be headed back to the big screen in the near future.

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool was hard done by in the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie.

The movie was SO bad that various elements aren’t even being acknowledged as part of either movie or comic book canon.

That’s a good thing, because the movie creators’ decision to turn Deadpool into a poor man’s Baraka was hardly appreciated.

Deadpool is known for his dark humor and gift of gab, so it made no sense to rid him of everything that made him special for a two second joke.

The poor reception is what lead to a movie starring Reynolds as Deadpool getting shelved.

But then a very fortunate thing happened: Someone decided to leak test footage of Deadpool voiced by Ryan Reynolds.

What followed was the internet losing its mild completely and everyone begging Fox to reconsider.

With its X-Men franchise starting to struggle (at least when compared to the massive success enjoyed by Marvel Studios), Fox was only too happy to breathe fresh life into the project.

Ryan Reynolds is thrilled, and wasted no time in teasing Deadpool fans about the upcoming project.

It’s no secret that Ryan’s career in recent years has started to veer off track.

In addition to less than complimentary comments about X-Men Origins, he had a string of unfortunate flops, including his other superhero movie Green Lantern.

However, Deadpool fans seem to have a lot of faith in Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. Probably because had it not been for the unnecessary tweaking, there were elements to suggest that Reynolds could pull it off.

As it was his voice we hear in the test footage, he certainly sounds like the “Merc with a Mouth” we’ve come to know and love.

The key will be how Ryan Reynolds comes across on screen in the actual suit. And if Fox is smart enough to let the character break the fourth wall throughout the movie.

The right combinations just might put Reynolds’ movie career back on track.

Netflix May Have Its Jessica Jones And Luke Cage

Thursday saw some big news in the Marvel world, particularly with Ryan Reynolds being named as Deadpool in an upcoming film and Benedict Cumberbatch being named as Doctor Strange.

As you may know, Netflix has a few original series from Marvel in the works, beginning with Daredevil, which is to debut in 2015.

This will be followed by Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. These will combine as one big “epic,” and culminate in a miniseries event, The Defenders. The endeavor will stretch over multiple years, and as the announcement said, will take Netflix members “deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell’s Kitchen, New York.”

It appears that Marvel now has its Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Deadline is reporting:

Marvel is mum as usual, but I hear they have tapped Krysten Ritter for the lead in the company’s straight-to-series drama Jessica Jones. Ritter was one of five actresses who tested for the role. I hear it came down to her and Teresa Palmer, with both doing chemistry reads with The Following‘s Mike Colter, believed to be the choice for male lead Luke Cage.

Ritter is known for her roles on Breaking Bad and Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23.

  • Krysten Ritter is Marvel’s New Jessica Jones

Krysten Ritter has done other things since playing Jesse Pinkman’s junkie girlfriend Jane Margolis on Breaking Bad. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul have, too. But does anyone think anything will ever overshadow their work on that show? Don’t Trust the B—— in Apartment 23 sure didn’t do it for Ritter.

Maybe Krysten Ritter can make a new name for herself now. Word on the street is that Ritter is the choice to play Marvel superhero Jessica Jones in an upcoming Netflix television series.

Jessica Jones is known to Marvel fans as a different kind of heroine. She started off normal. She was a high school classmate of Peter Parker, and had a crush on him. But Parker got busy with the whole Spidey gig and Jessica got left behind.

Then she was in a car accident, covered in chemicals, and slipped into a coma. When she came out of the coma, she had superpowers. She had great strength, she was impervious to most weaponry, and she could fly — sort of.

The thing is, Jessica Jones never quite got good at being a superhero. Her flying was spotty. She stumbled into more victories than she attained on purpose. She went by several different identity names, including Jewel, Knightress, and Power Woman.

Eventually she hung up her cape, so to speak, and started a private investigations firm. She keeps getting pulled back into the superhero life, but eventually has a baby with fellow superhero Luke Cage.

Krysten Ritter is said to be one of only five actresses who were considered for the part.

Marvel is actually doing four series with Netflix. These will center around Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. Luke Cage
