  • Martina Hingis Pairs Up With Leander Paes For Australian Open

After already retiring twice from tennis, Martina Hingis remains a strong player in her chosen sport. The 34-year-old professional player from Switzerland was tagged by Leander Paes to play for a mixed event at the upcoming Australia Open.

In a statement that Paes released during the Premier Tennis League (PTL) media interaction in June, the 14-time Grand Slam champion said that he wanted his partner to exhibit both his strengths and weaknesses to make for a compelling game. For his next men’s doubles game, Paes chose South African Raven Klaasen to compete with him, making Klaasen the 99th person to compete side by side with the Indian ace.

Meanwhile, Paes can only hope that Hingis will aid him in receiving yet another Grand Slam title.  Paes was reportedly having a hard time this year after only receiving one title, no Masters Series final, and no Grand Slam final. “Tennis still remains a priority. I’m an eternal optimist,” he said in an interview with NDTV sports. “I feel very motivated as I look ahead. I will be strong.”

Hingis could be Paes’ ticket to winning the Australian Open. The nine-time Grand Slam women’s title holder made a bold comeback July of last year when she came out of retirement to play with Daniela Hantuhchová. Although the Czech tennis star retired from playing singles, she has found great success in playing doubles with fellow women. Sabine Lisicki and Flavia Pennetta were just some of the professional players who recently tagged Hingis as their partner for doubles.

When she was only 17, Hingis won the Wimbledon league making her the youngest champion ever. During her downtime from tennis, Hingis coached young hopefuls and shaped them into great players. Lisicki was one of Hingis’ students and they showed the power of their tandem when they won the Sony Open in Miami earlier this year.

  • Martina Hingis Invited Back to Wimbledon

In 1996, Martina Hingis shocked the tennis world for the first time by becoming the youngest player to ever win a Grand Slam title, partnering with Helena Sukova at Wimbledon to take home the women’s doubles title. At 15 years old, many expected Hingis to dominate the world of women’s tennis for quite some time. However, due to ligament injuries in her ankles, Hingis was forced to an early retirement at age 22. Since that time, Hingis has experienced mild success and had also had her career tainted somewhat by testing positive for cocaine at Wimbledon in 2007. Thanks to the All England Club, however, Hingis has another chance to achieve tennis superstardom this year in London.

Wednesday, Hingis will make her return to the grass courts of Wimbledon for the first time since 2007. Hingis’s return comes after the All England Club granted her a wild card spot in the women’s doubles tournament, where she will partner with Vera Zvonareva, who lost to Serena Williams in the finals of the singles tournament in 2010.

Hingis, who was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame last year, has experienced much success at Wimbledon in the past, winning doubles championships in 1996 and 1998 and splitting those wins with a singles championships in 1997.

Unfortunately, Hingis was not able to continue her partnership with Germany’s Sabine Lisicki, to whom Hingis served as coach for some time. In March of this year, Hingis won her first tournament since her second retirement in 2007 with Lisicki at the Sony Open.

Since that time, however, Hingis and Lisicki have mutually decided to part ways, with each tennis star seeking to better her own respective career:

It is yet to be determined at what time Hingis will take the court at this year’s Wimbledon.

  • Martina Hingis And Sabine Lisicki Win Doubles Title At Sony Open

Tennis pro Martina Hingis and playing partner Sabine Lisicki won in the doubles competition at the Sony Open in Key Biscayne, Miami, Florida on Sunday. It has been seven years since her last doubles title in 2007 when she played in Doha. It is her 38th WTA trophy win.

The former world No. 1 first decided to retire in 2003 due to injuries. She returned to the game in 2005, but decided to retire again in 2007. The second retirement was also due to the two-year suspension she received from the International Tennis Federation.  That year, Hingis’ urine sample was found to contain benzoylecgonine, a metabolite found in cocaine.

In July last year, Hingis took up the racket again to play in the sport’s doubles event in Carlsbad, pairing up with Daniela Hantuchova. It was also the month she was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Hingis and Lisicki joined the BNP Paribas Open tournament in California’s Indian Wells Tennis Garden earlier this March, but they only got so far as the first round. At first Hingis wasn’t sure if she wanted to join the Key Biscayne tournament and lose again, but now that they’ve won, things have changed, and she seems inclined to continue playing more matches.

The Swiss Hingis and German Lisicki took on Russian duo Elena Vesnina and Ekaterina Makarova, scoring 4-6, 6-4, and 10-5 to win the game. The champion pair joined the Florida tournament as a wildcard entry. They were able to win the last seven points of the game’s super tie-break against the Russians.

The 33-year-old pro tennis player is a five-time Grand Slam singles title holder: one for the US Open, another for Wimbledon, and three for the Australian Open. She has also won nine Grand Slam women’s doubles titles. Sunday’s win will most likely project Hingis to 60th place in the new doubles world rankings. Lisicki is projected to move up to 36th place.

  • Martina Hingis Reportedly Beat Up Estranged Husband

Once a cheater, always a cheater. And a beater too?

According to Martina Hingis’ estranged husband, Thibault Hutin, the tennis player was not only caught cheating on him twice, but he is also accusing her of beating him up.

After only a year of marriage, Hutin walked in on Hingis with another man. After taking her back, he caught her cheating on him again.

As if cheating wasn’t enough humiliation, try getting beat up by your in-laws too.

Hutin claims that Hingis, with the help of her mother and her mother’s boyfriend, attacked him. Hutin told the German newspaper Blick, “On Monday evening, I was in our shared apartment when the doorbell rang. In the course of a dispute to Martina and her mother Melanie Molitor pounced on me, beat me and scratched. My upbringing forbids me to beat women. I resisted every effort, as suggested to me Mario Widmer, the partner of Melanie, the DVD player to the head.”

The German to English translation is a little rough, but it seems while Hutin and Hingis were arguing, her mother pounced on him, beat him up and scratched him. Then the mother’s boyfriend (Mario) hit him in the head with a DVD player.

The gang didn’t just beat up Hutin, he says they also stole his passport and his credit cards. He then went to the police in Pfäffikon to file a report. “The policemen went with me back to the apartment and forced the three to surrender my valuables. They wanted to massacre me, I’m shocked! I never thought it would go so far,” said Hutin.

Hutin, an equestrian show jumper, is also accusing Hingis of being connected to a break-in of his car last Friday. Hutin told Blick, “Someone had tried to tamper with the engine. Because besides me only Martina has a key to the garage, for me there is only one possible culprit: Martina.” He has also passed on this information to police.

“First she cheating on me, then they tried to break my car. Now she is physically up to me and stealing my valuables,” said Hutin.

And the craziness doesn’t stop there. Hutin is also alleging that Hingis has been threatening to have Russians kill him. Hutin said, “Last time I did receive an SMS with a threat to send me Russians on the neck. I do not like more white.”

And you thought you had lady problems.

Hutin is currently staying in a hotel with plans to move back to France.

Hingis, the former No. 1 female tennis player, recently pulled out of playing in Tokyo and Beijing due to “personal reasons” and is unsure if she’ll play in 2014.
