David Letterman Pops Out of Retirement to Do a Top Ten list on Donald Trump [Video]

David Letterman dropped in on a live Steve Martin and Martin Short comedy tour event in San Antonio, Texas this weekend. The gathered crowd was treated to a bearded Letterman joking with the pair and enjoying the spotlight again since his retirement.

“Back in Hollywood, we met at a Scientology mixer,” Letterman said of his friendship with Martin and Martin.

There were frequent pauses for applause as Letterman effortlessly worked the crowd.

  • Keke Palmer Finally Gets ‘Grease’ Male Lead

Keke Palmer has been busy with Scream Queens, so she may not have minded all that much. But it has been over a month since the announcement that she, Vanessa Hudgens, and Julianne Hough were cast in Fox’s latest stab at a live televised musical Grease: Live.

Palmer was cast as Marty, role played in the original film version by Dinah Manoff. Vanessa Hudgens will be Rizzo, originally played by Stockard Channing. And Julianne Hough will be the female lead, Sandy, originally played by Olivia Newton-John.

But up until now there has been no male lead, no Danny Zuko to join Palmer and the other ladies, and reprise John Travolta’s role. Now that spot has been filled.

Broadway star Aaron Tveit, who was in Catch Me If You Can on stage, will star as Danny Zuko. Fans will also know Tveit from the big screen in Les Miserables, as well as on television in Gossip Girl and Graceland.

Keke Palmer is also joined by Carlos PenaVega as Kenickie. Others rumored to join Palmer in the live musical include Nick Jonas, said to be filling the role of Teen Angel/Johnny Casino. Also rumored are Martin Short, playing Coach Calhoun, and Olivia Newton-John herself, as Principal McGee.

Meanwhile, Keke Palmer has said of her current project, Scream Queens, that it will live up to the reputation of creator Ryan Murphy, also known for American Horror Story.

“I think that he is keeping that same, heightened, extreme grounded-ness,” Palmer told Entertainment Weekly. “How he does it, I have no idea. But that is very much so a part of Scream Queens. And also, the comedy. He finds the balance in light of the dark. It’s fun to play.”

  • Doctor’s Death Reportedly Tied to ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’

Doctor’s Death Reportedly Tied to ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’

Could Tina Fey’s new Netflix comedy Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt have played a part in the death of a doctor to the stars?

The NY Post reports that Dr. Fredric Brandt has died at the age of 65. Brandt was a cosmetic dermatologist with a long list of celebrity clients, including Madonna. His publicist confirmed his death, saying he suffered from and “illness”, but refusing to elaborate on the exact cause of death.

“He passed away this morning. He was suffering from an illness. Everyone who knows him is devastated. I worked with him for over 20 years and he was an amazing man, not only was he a brilliant doctor, but he was the kindest human being.”

But Miami Herald reporter Lesley Abravanel is saying that Brandt was suffering from depression, much of it due to a character on Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt that shares a striking resemblance to the real doctor.

Here’s Martin Short’s “Dr. Franff” and Brandt:

    From Abravanel:

Dr. Franff appears in one episode of the series.

  • Kathie Lee Gifford Tweets Apology For Embarrassing Mistake

“Today” host Kathie Lee Gifford made a horribly awkward mistake on Wednesday’s show, which cost her and anyone watching a great deal of embarrassment: apparently, she wasn’t aware that guest Martin Short’s wife passed away two years ago and kept asking him questions about how they keep their marriage fresh after so many years together.

To his credit, Short didn’t make her feel bad by pointing out her mistake, instead answering as though she were still alive.

Kathie Lee is known for her wild and erratic antics on the show, often getting skewered by Joel McHale on the E! clip show “The Soup”. Some episodes are like a train wreck; you don’t want to watch but you can’t look away.

Gifford did eventually realize her mistake and tweeted about it later, offering an apology to Short.

I send my sincerest apologies to @MartinShort and his family. He handled situation w/enormous grace and kindness and I’m so grateful.
