  • Olivia Wilde Wears Pubic Wig on HBO’s “Vinyl”

Olivia Wilde Wears Pubic Wig on HBO’s “Vinyl”

Olivia Wilde took it all off on HBO’s Vinyl this week, and she even wore a merkin–or pubic wig–as well.

PerezHilton.com reports that Olivia Wilde had to be historically accurate with her nudity. Vinyl takes place in the 1970s–long before women trimmed, shaved, or waxed away their pubic hair.

Olivia Wilde plays the role of Devon Finestra, the estranged wife of record executive Richie Finestra, on Vinyl. Mick Jagger and Martin Scorsese are among the show’s creators.

In a recent interview, Olivia Wilde talked about the merkin she wears on a regular basis.

“We all wear merkins because it’s the ’70s. They fit you, they make it, and they let you choose the consistency and the color. It’s huge…You’re wearing a little fur bikini…I was walking around to the whole crew going, “Look at this!”‘ she explained.

Wouldn’t you love to know what Olivia Wilde’s other half–funny man Jason Sudeikis–has to say about her pubic wig? That would make the perfect SNL skit if only Jason was still part of the Saturday Night Live cast.

Have you been watching Vinyl since it premiered on HBO in February? If so, did you catch Olivia Wilde this week, wearing her merkin?

Did you know what a merkin was before reading this article?

If not, you’re definitely not alone.

  • Melissa Mathison, Former Wife of Harrison Ford and ‘E.T.’ Screenwriter, Dies at 65

Melissa Mathison, the former wife of Harrison Ford and the screenwriter of Steven Spielberg’s E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, has died at the age of 65.

According to the Associated Press, Mathison was known for her family friendly films, which also includes The Black Stallion.

Mathison died Wednesday at her Los Angeles home after a bout with neuroendocrine cancer, confirmed her sister, Melinda Mathison Johnson.

“Mathison’s stories were rich with symbolism, adventure, depth, and darkness. With their intricate plots and grown up themes of loneliness and loss, her films enchanted a generation of kids, and their parents,” said Lindsey Bahr, for her AP article on Mathison.

E.T. has remains a classic film and continues to charm children of all ages.

“Melissa had a heart that shined with generosity and love and burned as bright as the heart she gave E.T.,” Steven Spielberg said in a statement.

Mathison’s first credited work was in assistant roles on The Godfather: Part IIApocalypse Now.” Her break out project was 1979 classic, The Black Stallion, which was directed by Carol Ballard.

Mathison met Harrison Ford on the set of Apocalypse Now in 1976, and the couple married in 1983. They remained married until 2004 and had two children, Georgia and Malcolm.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Mathison often collaborated with producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall under their Amblin Entertainment banner and worked with directors like Frank Oz on The Indian in the Cupboard and Martin Scorsese.

Mathison left her lasting legacy with E.T., which became the highest grossing film of all time. According to the Associated Press, Spielberg and her then-boyfriend Harrison Ford reportedly convinced Mathison to write the screenplay on a 207 mile-drive through the Tunisian desert during the shoot for Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Mathison was honored with her first and only Oscar nomination for E.T. but lost out to John Briley’s Gandhi screenplay.

Melissa Mathison’s last credited work is on Spielberg’s big screen adaptation of Roald Dahl’s novel The BFG, which comes out next year.

  • Martin Scorsese Executive Producer of ‘Tomorrow’ Starring Stephen Fry

Martin Scorsese is executive producing the British movie, Tomorrow. He won’t, however, be a lead producer in the project. Those roles are reserved for Neil Jones and Dean Mitchell.

“It’s an amazing script, with colorful characters and a truly uplifting story,” Mitchell told the Hollywood Reporter. “The film deals with a number of important issues, including HIV and soldiers returning home with post-traumatic stress disorder and will be making an important statement in how it addresses these. With Martha at the helm, it’s going to be a beautiful picture.”

Martha Pinson directs the film. It happens to be her directorial debut. Previously she has been Scorsese’s script consultant. “Through [Martha Pinson’s] vision, the great cast and dedicated team, this story will resonate for years,” Scorsese told Variety.

Tomorrow is a great script. The dialogue is brilliant and believable; the reversals and surprises are well placed and powerful. The characters and situations are vividly drawn,” Pinson added.

According to Screen Daily, the cast includes Stephen Fry, best known for The Hobbit; Stephanie Leonidas, of Defiance; Sebastian Street, from Age of Heroes; Stuart Brennan, who did Risen; Sophie Kennedy-Clark, best known for her work in Nymphomaniac and Philomena; Paul Kaye, of Game of Thrones fame; and Joss Stone, who played Anne of Cleves in The Tudors.

Photography will span from London to Spain and will go through October.

The script couldn’t be more timely, as the film coincides with the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from Afghanistan this December. The Hollywood Reporter pointed out that Britain is bring a close to a 13 year war that claimed 453 of their soldiers’ lives.

  • Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Brad Pitt To Star In Martin Scorsese Short For Studio City Casino

It’s a cast destined for greatness. Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Brad Pitt starring in any movie together for the first time should pique filmgoers’ interest. The fact that it’s all three of these big stars’s first time together on screen while being directed by Martin Scorsese, makes it a potential hit. The writer, Terence Winter, who penned The Wolf of Wall Street, makes this project more and more enticing. MTV said this movie might be “Scorsese’s answer to Ocean’s Eleven, or a long-awaited sequel to his own Casino.”

When does this movie come out? Next year, but you won’t be able to see it in theaters in the United States. You’ll have to go to Macau for that.

According to Deadline, the short film has been commissioned by Melco-Crown Entertainment for the opening of their latest casino, Studio City. Although, the internet being what it is, non-international traveling movie fans will most likely be able to watch the movie on their computers and mobile devices sometime next year.

Independent News and Media reported that the film will promote Melco-Crown’s expansion globally, so the chances of the film being released online are pretty good since the company is looking to establish its global brand. Executive Producer James Parker said his aim is “to bring together Western and Eastern culture.”

Macau is a fitting place for such a meeting. Not only does the island have a long history bridging the East and West, but they are also one of the gambling capitals of the world:

So if you’re looking to see a casino themed Scorsese movie starring De Nino, you may be stuck watching 1995’s Casino for the time being, which Indiewire recently called one of De Niro’s best performances.

  • Martin Scorsese Defends Kodak’s Production of Film

In January 2012, things could not have looked worse for Kodak. After 123 years of filmmaking, the company, created by George Eastman, had applied for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and looked destined for ultimate failure. Surprisingly, though, Kodak was able to stay on its feet and continue production a little over a year and a half later behind the supervision of Chief Executive Jeff Clarke.

Despite its perseverance, Kodak faced challenges from ever-improving and cheaper technologies. Film, which had been Kodak’s bread-and-butter for so many years, was falling to the wayside, being replaced by cheaper, lighter, and easier-to-access forms of HD technology. Thanks to the hard work and generous words of multiple directors and film agencies, however, Kodak is in the final stages of cementing agreements to keep film a part of the movie industry for years to come:

“After extensive discussions with filmmakers, leading studios and others who recognize the unique artistic and archival qualities of film, we intend to continue production. Kodak thanks these industry leaders for their support and ingenuity in finding a way to extend the life of film,” stated Kodak Chief Executive Jeff Clarke.

Among those directors who voiced their opinions in support of Kodak and its continued production of film were Quentin Tarantino, Christopher Nolan, J.J. Abrams Judd Apatow, and Martin Scorsese. Today, Scorsese released a statement expressing why his continued support of film as a medium is so important to the movie industry:

We have many names for what we do – cinema, movies, motion pictures. And…film. We’re called directors, but more often we’re called filmmakers. Filmmakers. I’m not suggesting that we ignore the obvious: HD isn’t coming, it’s here. The advantages are numerous: the cameras are lighter, it’s much easier to shoot at night, we have many more means at our disposal for altering and perfecting our images. And, the cameras are more affordable: films really can be made now for very little money. Even those of us still shooting on film finish in HD, and our movies are projected in HD. So, we could easily agree that the future is here, that film is cumbersome and imperfect and difficult to transport and prone to wear and decay, and that it’s time to forget the past and say goodbye – really, that could be easily done. Too easily.

It seems like we’re always being reminded that film is, after all, a business. But film is also an art form, and young people who are driven to make films should have access to the tools and materials that were the building blocks of that art form. Would anyone dream of telling young artists to throw away their paints and canvases because iPads are so much easier to carry? Of course not. In the history of motion pictures, only a minuscule percentage of the works comprising our art form was not shot on film. Everything we do in HD is an effort to recreate the look of film. Film, even now, offers a richer visual palette than HD. And, we have to remember that film is still the best and only time-proven way to preserve movies. We have no assurance that digital informaton (sic) will last, but we know that film will, if properly stored and cared for.

Our industry – our filmmakers – rallied behind Kodak because we knew that we couldn’t afford to lose them, the way we’ve lost so many other film stocks. This news is a positive step towards preserving film, the art form we love.

Due to pledges to continue to support film as a medium from directors such as Scorsese, and from commitments from Warner Bros, Universal, Paramount, Disney, and Weinstein Co. to buy certain amounts of film in the upcoming years, Kodak has agreed to produce 450M linear feet of film over the next year.

The only question that remains at this point is whether or not Scorsese will film his latest project, Silence, on film. The movie has been in Scorsese’s mind since 1989 and is based on a 1966 novel of the same name from Japanese writer Shusaku Endo. The novel discusses the fate of two Jesuit priests as they travel to Japan to discover the whereabouts of their mentor and spread the word of Christianity to the Far East. Scorsese’s adaptation of the novel will star Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver and is set to be released in late 2015.

  • Mick Jagger Sings at L’Wren Scott Memorial

Mick Jagger honored his longtime love, L’Wren Scott, by singing a version of Bob Dylan’s Just Like a Woman at a memorial service for the fashion designer Friday.

The memorial service took place at St Bartholomew’s Church in Manhattan, New York, and featured a slew of celebrities and other notables.

“The most touching moment was when Mick sang the Bob Dylan song for L’Wren. The lyrics were so beautiful and so appropriate. It was deeply moving,” a source said.

“You take just like a woman. And you ache just like a woman. And you make love just like a woman. But you break just like a little girl,” Jagger, 70, sang during his rendition of Dylan song.

During the memorial, Jagger joined actresses Ellen Barkin and Sarah Jessica Parker in speaking about the fashion designer who took her own life in March, according to Jagger’s publicist, Vicki Scarfone.

Scott’s brother, Randy Bambrough, shared his own memories of his sister, and Scott’s niece, Hannah Bambrough, and Jagger’s son, James, read poetry.

Two of Jagger’s grandchildren, Mazie and Zak, read Psalm 23, while the iconic star’s longtime backup singer, Lisa Fischer, shared a rendition of Amazing Grace.

Others attendees included film directors Martin Scorsese and Baz Luhrmann, actresses Julianne Moore, Meg Ryan, Olivia Munn and Renee Zellweger, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, tennis star John McEnroe and former Vogue editor at large Andre Leon Talley.

“Everyone spoke that loved her. Everyone had their own beautiful memories of L’Wren. Mick Jagger spoke, Sarah Jessica Parker spoke, I spoke, Rachel Feinstein spoke, and all the grandkids and sons, they read scripture,” said Talley.

“The mood was beautiful, solemn, elegant. The mood was L’Wren. She would have approved of everything, the flowers, every single thing. It was brilliant.”

A small, private funeral took place in Los Angeles in March, after which she was cremated as per her wishes. Scott left her entire estate to Jagger.

Jagger and Scott – who’s high-end fashion label was a favorite among celebrities including Parker, Nicole Kidman, Tina Fey, and Michelle Obama – had been in a relationship since 2001.

Friday’s memorial service was followed by a reception.

  • L’Wren Scott Memorialized in Song by Mick Jagger

L’Wren Scott was memorialized in an emotional service on Friday in New York City at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Manhattan. Her boyfriend of 13 years, Mick Jagger, paid tribute to her by singing a solo of her favorite song–Just Like A Woman–during the memorial. The Bob Dylan song was a favorite of Scott’s.

The service also include very moving speeches given by Mick Jagger along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Ellen Barkin, and fashion personality Andre Leon Talley. Although Jagger broke down at one point he did his best to keep his stories as lighthearted as possible.

Among his lighter tales was one about L’Wren Scott’s complete unfamiliarity with most of the Rolling Stones’ hit songs. Jagger joked that she kept asking him throughout a show that featured the classic songs if Gimme Shelter was playing yet.

Mick Jagger’s son James Jagger read a poem at the memorial and his grandchildren Mazie and Zak, who referred to L’Wren Scott as “Glammy” read the 21st Psalm.

Notable celebrities in attendance included Keith Richards, Meg Ryan, Patty Smythe, Renee Zellweger, Martin Scorsese, John McEnroe, Julianne Moore, Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter, and Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

Vogue produced a short YouTube tribute to Scott following her passing.

L’Wren Scott committed suicide in her New York City apartment back on March 17th. She was 49 years old.

The memorial service was followed by a reception. Fans lined the streets as celebrities were arriving and leaving the service in an effort to snap some photos.

A small private funeral was held for L’Wren Scott back in March.

Hopefully Mick Jagger and those who loved the fashion designer can find some closure following her untimely tragic death and move forward with their lives. Suicide is probably the most difficult type of death for survivors to process as they are forever left with the question, “Why?”

Don Rickles will be lauded in a comedy-filled event on May 6th at New York’s Apollo Theater by guests including Jerry Seinfeld, David Letterman, Ray Romano and more. Stand-up performances, video clips, taped tributes by those not able to attend in person, and even some personal stories shared by close friends will all be part of the tribute to the 87-year-old funny man just two days before his 88th birthday. The 90-minute event will be taped for airing on Spike TV. Called One Night Only: An All-Star Comedy Tribute to Don Rickles, fans can tune in on May 28th at 9:00 P.M. to share in the fun.

“We’re thrilled that David Letterman, Jerry Seinfeld, Jon Stewart, Robert De Niro and so many more will be coming out to entertain and celebrate our hero — Don Rickles,” Casey Patterson, the executive producer and executive VP of event production and talent development at Viacom Entertainment Group said. “The genius of Rickles is in the danger, nobody is safe, and what you can expect is a night of comedy from these superstars worthy of a legend. It truly will be One Night Only.”

In addition to Seinfeld, Letterman, and Romano, additional guests for the comedy event include Brad Garrett, Robert De Niro, Jimmy Kimmel, Martin Scorsese, Tracy Morgan, Jon Stewart, Bob Newhart, and Regis Philbin. How exciting that so many of comedy’s best will be gathered together for one event. In true Rickles form, his tweeted about the upcoming event.

Don Rickles earned two nicknames, “The Merchant of Venom” and “Mr. Warmth” for his mastery of insult comedy. He is noted for having picked on people of all ethnicities and from all walks of life. Some of his stand-up routines from decades ago would be deemed way beyond politically correct today. Rickles made his first appearance on The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson back in 1965, and wound up both guest hosting and appearing on the show more than 100 times during Carson’s reign. Even at 87, he is still active in stand-up comedy and makes frequent late night appearances on shows like the Late Show With David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

Rickles was honored less than a year ago by New York’s Friar’s Club.

One Night Only: An All-Star Comedy Tribute to Don Rickles will no doubt be one of the biggest comedy events of 2014. Will you be tuning in to Spike to share in the laughter?

  • Don Rickles to Get Tribute from Jimmy Kimmel, Jerry Seinfeld, Bob Newhart

Don Rickles will get an all-star tribute from an impressive lineup of comedic celebrities such as Jimmy Kimmel, Bob Newhart, and Jerry Seinfeld next month. Robert De Niro, David Letterman, Tracy Morgan, Regis Philbin, Ray Romano, Martin Scorsese, John Stamos, and Jon Stewart are also slated to appear at the event.

The 90-minute tribute titled One Night Only: An All-Star Comedy Tribute to Don Rickles will be taped on May 6 at the Apollo Theater, a New York City landmark located in Harlem. The show will air May 28 on Spike Network.

“The genius of Rickles is in the danger, nobody is safe, and what you can expect is a night of comedy from these superstars worthy of a legend. It truly will be One Night Only,” said Casey Patterson, Executive Producer and Executive Vice President, Event Production & Talent Development, Viacom Entertainment Group, which owns Spike.

Rickles, a native of Queens, will turn 88 on May 8.

Often referred to as the “Merchant of Venom” or “Mr. Warmth,” Rickles is considered comedy’s master of the insult.

Early on, Rickles abandoned his dreams of becoming a serious actor to hone his nightclub act. In 1957, Frank Sinatra saw the act at Slate Brothers in Los Angeles and quickly became Rickles’ champion.

It wasn’t long before Rickles had caught the attention of Dean Martin and Johnny Carson and was headlining performances in Las Vegas.

”My humor is so over the top you’d have to be an awful fool to think I’m embarrassing you,” Rickles said in a 1996 interview with The New York Times. ”When I pick someone from the audience, their eyes say, ‘I can take it.’ But if I’m wrong, I’ll never let them know it. When you sell yourself you just can’t back down. I absolutely believe that. You’ve got to stay with what got you to the dance. It’s an old expression but true.”

Rickles and his wife Barbara celebrated their 49th anniversary in March. They’re the parents of two children, Larry and Mindy. Mindy followed in her father’s comedic footsteps.

One Night Only is a relatively new annual event on Spike. The first installment, which aired in 2012 and paid tribute to Eddie Murphy, remains the highest rated show in the network’s history.

  • Jimmy Fallon Does Hashtag 2 With Jonah Hill

Jimmy Fallon can’t stop making us laugh. The Tonight Show star recently revisited an old skit that had us all tickled.

The Hastag 2 follows up his Twitter spoof about folks constantly talking and using hashtags via social media. The original spoof featured Justin Timberlake and while we think he’s hilarious, Fallon’s second guest is just as funny.

The skit started with Fallon knocking on the door to join actor and pal Jonah Hill. Hill of course was consumed by his telephone.

Instead of chatting like normal people, the host and Hill decided to turn their small talk into hashtag glory.

“Just having my morning Joe, hashtag livin’ la vida mocha,” Fallon replied. “Hashtag no coffee no workie.”

“By the way congrats on your Oscar nomination,” the funny man added before shouting, “Hashtag Wolf of Wall Street!”

“Thanks man, hashtag blessed,” the hilarious Hill replied.

Still don’t know what I’m talking about? Check out the video here so you can be up-to-speed. #Yourewelcome

If that wasn’t enough hashtag comedy for you, check out the original skit featuring funny man Timberlake.

But perhaps the best part of the video (aside form the Harry Potter hashtags) was the awesome surprise cameo made by Wolf of Wall Street director Martin Scorsese who entered the room only to say, “hashtag been done.”

But of course the skit didn’t end there with the guys firing back even more hashtags. The ending however, is the best part. Check out the video. It’s definitely one to watch.

  • Jonah Hill Shares His Salary For “The Wolf Of Wall Street”

Jonah Hill has gone from a chubby “Superbad’ smartass to an actor who has worked with some of the most respected names in the business. And while he can command a fairly high salary these days, he says he accepted what is basically minimum wage in order to work with Martin Scorsese on “The Wolf Of Wall Street”.

“They gave me the lowest amount of money possible, that was their offer,” he told Howard Stern. “I said, ‘I will sign the paper tonight. Fax me the papers tonight.’ I want to sign them tonight before they change their mind. I said I want to sign them before I go to sleep tonight so they legally can’t change their mind.”

Hill revealed that he received something like $60,000 for seven months of work, which is peanuts to just about anyone in Hollywood these days, but it didn’t matter. It was all about getting to work with one of the biggest directors to ever step behind a camera.

“I would sell my house and give him all my money to work for [Scorsese] . . . I would have done anything in the world. I would do it again in a second. It’s not about money for me. None of this shit is about money. I want to make money to pay my rent, and hopefully have a family one day and have kids and stuff.”

The changes Hill has gone through in the past few years are not lost on him; after working with Quentin Tarantino and getting an Oscar nod for “Moneyball”, he says he almost can’t believe the direction life has taken him in.

“I got to fucking be in a Martin Scorsese movie and I just got nominated for an Oscar,” he said. “I’m tripping out… I’m in shock. I’m totally in shock.”

Hill and Leonardo DiCaprio defended “The Wolf Of Wall Street” recently in the media after a debate about whether or not it glorifies the outrageous, lavish lifestyle depicted by the actors.

“I personally take away the message from the film that this behavior, this lifestyle, leads to a very bad ending. I think the movie is not glorifying this behavior, it is showing that it leads to bad places whether their judicial punishment doesn’t reflect that is one thing. Where your life ends up, who you are as a person, is another,” Hill said.

  • Steven Spielberg Ousts Oprah as Influential Celeb

Steven Spielberg has ousted Oprah Winfrey as the most influential celebrity in the U.S., according to an annual study conducted by Forbes magazine. It seems it was the film Lincoln that gave Spielberg the edge over Oprah. Earning him 12 Oscar nominations as well as $275 million at the box office in the U.S., it also brought in $93 million at the global box office. Forty seven percent of people surveyed rated Steven Spielberg as influential.

“A celebrity’s ‘Influential’ score represents how that person is perceived as influencing the public, their peers, or both,” president of E-Poll Market Research, Gerry Philpott, said. E-Poll Market Research conducted the study for Forbes.

Oprah Winfrey topped the Forbes list last year with a 49 percent influential rating. She slipped this year to just 45 percent–still impressive, of course, but not high enough to top Steven Spielberg. Reps at Forbes think that Oprah staying out of the limelight for much of the past year contributed to her decline in influence.

Forbes magazine announced Steven Spielberg as their most influential celebrity on Wednesday using a variety of social media outlets–Twitter being among them.

So who else made the list of influential celebrities behind both Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey? Star Wars creator George Lucas earned third place in the survey. Directors Ron Howard and Martin Scorsese came in fourth and fifth, respectively. Other celebrities who made the top ten list include Barbara Walters, Bono and Dr. Oz.

And while Forbes hasn’t said exactly how many people took the survey, E-Poll Market Research ranked more than 6,600 celebrities on 46 personality attributes in their efforts to compile that top ten list.

Are you surprised that Steven Spielberg beat out Oprah Winfrey as most influential celebrity? Was there anyone noticeably absent from the top 5 who you might have expected to see there?

  • Bruce Dern Is Given Special Thanks From Leonardo DiCaprio [Video]

One of the losses that may have hurt most last night was when Bruce Dern lost to Leonardo DiCaprio. DiCaprio tried to make the best of the situation and clearly felt bad for the veteran actor when acknowledging him first thing in his acceptance speech.

He spent the first part of his speech telling all of the young actors to take a look at Bruce Dern’s work for inspiration, and while he did not win, Bruce Dern was given quite a tribute from Leo.

Leonardo DiCaprio won the award for Best Actor In A Motion Picture-Musical Or Comedy, and also took the opportunity to mock the format in which the Golden Globes deliver their awards.

He was shocked at the fact that he was able to win for a comedy when he clearly does not make comedies, and neither does Martin Scorsese, who directed the film. He also thanked his “fellow comedians” in a joking way, particularly Bruce Dern, who is also clearly not a comedian.

The Wolf Of Wall Street marked the fifth time that Leo and Scorsese had worked together, and their collaboration was a success again.

DiCaprio gave a heartfelt speech as he accepted the award, and as someone who has plenty of experience working with other legendary actors, and several award nominations himself, he was able to recognize the talent of Bruce Dern, and felt honored to be nominated with him.

Bruce Dern was nominated for his role in Nebraska, and lost to Leonardo DiCaprio for his portrayal of Jordan Belfort, a wall street elite who was convicted of federal fraud crimes. The other nominees were Oscar Isaac for Inside Llewlyn Davis, Christian Bale for American Hustle and Joaquin Phoenix for Her.

Dern has had a long career in film, and while he was playing an aging father in his latest film, he continues to act at the age of 77.

In Nebraska, he plays an aging father who makes the trip from Montana to Nebraska with his estranged son (Will Forte) in order to claim a million-dollar Mega Sweepstakes Marketing prize.

He has already gained a lot of attention for his role in the film, and with the Academy Award nominations right around the corner, he is likely to be nominated for another Oscar. He was previously nominated for an Oscar for his role in Coming Home.

Bruce Dern is set for even more award recognition, and even if he does not win any awards for his work in Nebraska, it has already been viewed as an impressive performance, and as Leo mentioned, his work is worth checking out for any young actors out there.

  • Margot Robbie: Sex, Lies & Film Tape

Margot Robbie: Sex, Lies & Film Tape

While Margot Robbie of The Wolf of Wall Street is a sensation, don’t call her an overnight one–she may be new to us, but she’s been doing this for years.

Well, as much as she can do in her adult life being that she’s only 23.

The Australian-born actress has been steadily acting professionally since her 2007 graduation from Somerset College, and it looks like her work is paying off with her big role as “Naomi” aka (“Duchess”) in the Martin Scorsese-directed smash The Wolf of Wall Street.

What’s interesting to note is that she almost didn’t accept Martin Scorsese’s role. As earlier reported by us, Margot Robbie confessed that she almost declined the legendary director after reading the gratuitous nudity scenes in the script. A bit of coercion and life-questioning helped her decision, and after three shots of tequila for her first nude scene, the rest is movie-making history.

Another interesting note about Robbie’s blossoming career is that she is already the victim of heavy gossip. Pictures of Leonardo DiCaprio on a balcony with a tall woman claimed Robbie as the mystery lady. Except that the lady was a 6-foot-tall Ukrainian model, while Robbie stands at just 5’6.

She also made a splash by taking very chummy (and seemingly a bit drunken) photos with Will Smith, giving the always ready tabloids fuel for their favorite topic –“A Home Wrecking Affair!” Robbie refuted all accusations of that charge on her twitter & as LA Times reports, she worries less about it all– she has since realized that she doesn’t have to do much to be accused of foul play.

If you’ve enjoyed Margie Robbie’s role as the wife of Leonardo DiCaprio’s character in The Wolf of Wall Street, you’ll be happy to know that she is slated to appear opposite another movie heavy-hitter Will Smith in the comedy Focus in the near future, and she is up for a Golden Globe Award tonight for Best Motion Picture.

  • The Wolf on Wall Street: Doing Well Despite Raunch

Among the eight movies that opened on Christmas Day, Variety tells us that Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street is coming out near the top, which is no small feat with The Hobbit being its main competitor.

The Wolf of Wall Street is based on the true story of a New York stock broker, the mob and the corporate banking world in the 80s. We witness Jordan Belfort’s, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, entire rise and fall caused from sex, drugs and bank withdrawals within a three-hour length of time.

Funny thing– while the public looks to love it,

when it was played at an Academy screening, RealBollywood.com tells us that senior Oscar voters were vocally disgusted, and confronted Scorsese about the whole idea of it all.

Scorsese, the man behind Goodfellas and Gangs of New York, admits that the film is a bit more raunchy than what his old friends may be used to seeing from him(according to mtv.com, actress Margot Robbie almost declined the legendary director because of the gratuitous nudity in the script), but the reviews show that the public either gets it… or just loves seeing a good raunchfest.

Either way, The Wolf of Wall Street is doing great this Christmas week. Who has already viewed it? Curious about your opinion.

  • The Wolf of Wall Street Gets a Trailer, and It Looks Insane

Paramount has just dropped the official trailer for the Martin Scorsese-helmed The Wolf of Wall Street, and it looks like it’s going to be quite the ride.

The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort, a big-shot New York stockbroker who is approached to participate in a giant securities fraud case. It deals with Wall Street excesses, corruption, and organized crime – and all of that is on display in this new trailer.

“The year I turned 26, I made $49 million, which really pissed me off because it was just shy of $1 million a week,” says DiCaprio’s character, Belfort.

Nice. There’s a lot of partying, boats, a monkey, dwarf tossing, and some new Kanye West music – an all around intriguing production, to say the least. Check it out:

The film, based on the memoirs of Belfort himself, is slated for a November 15th release. It also stars Matthew McConaughey and Jonah Hill.

  • Mel Brooks Given AFI Life Achievement Award

The American Film Institute (AFI) this week announced that film director Mel Brooks received the organization’s Life Achievement Award at a gala tribute on Thursday. The award was presented by veteran film director Martin Scorsese. The presentation will air on cable channel TNT on Saturday, June 15 at 9 pm EDT.

“For over 50 years, Mel Brooks has given the world its greatest gift – laughter,” said Sir Howard Stringer, Chair of the AFI Board of Trustees. “At the American Film Institute, we also want to shine a proper light on his contributions to the art form as writer, producer, director and actor – and who better to bestow this honor than one of the masters of American film, Martin Scorsese.”

AFI began giving out Life Achievement Awards in 1973 as a way to award those “whose talent has in a fundamental way advanced the film art.” John Ford was the first recipient of the award. Scorsese received his AFI Life Achievement Award, the organization’s 25th, back in 1997. Brooks is now the 41st recipient of the award.

  • Martin Scorsese Siri Ad Gets Another Parody (Funny Or Die Style)

It was inevitable that the Apple commercial for its iPhone 4S, featuring Martin Scorsese using Siri in the back of a taxi cab, would conjure up images from Scorsese’s classic Taxi Driver, especially considering that in the film there was a scene where Scorsese himself was riding in the back of a cab.

Now there’s a parody of the commercial from Funny or Die, which goes the extra step of splicing in footage from the film. You can view it here, as the embedding has been disabled. It’s not really all that funny, so it’s up to you.

Of course, this isn’t the first time the commercial has been parodied. We shared this one last week:

Here’s another one that hit YouTube sometime in between those two (language NSFW):

  • A Different, Funnier Take On That Martin Scorsese Siri Commercial

Last week, we showed you an a new iPhone 4S commercial featuring Martin Scorsese using Siri. While much tamer, we couldn’t help but be reminded of a certain uncomfortable scene in Scorsese’s Taxi Driver.

Now, there’s a funnier take on the ad. AppJudgment has uploaded the following parody to YouTube (via 9to5Mac):

This video is even funnier considering that a real Siri ad was recently called out for delivering bogus information.

  • The Dictator Red Band Trailer Goes Viral

The Dictator Red Band Trailer Goes Viral

Yesterday we brought you a viral video from The Dictator staring Sacha Baron Cohen. In the article we also featured the latest trailer for the film. After much deliberation, we decide that really wasn’t enough.

The standard green band trailer doesn’t really do The Dictator justice. Cohen is famous for his ribald, “I can’t believe he went there” humor that translates poorly in a kid friendly trailer.

The red band trailer, on the other hand, is hilarious.

SNL brought on the dictator for a Weekend Update sketch featuring a kidnapped Martin Scorsese last week.

  • Scorsese, Leo Reteam for “The Wolf of Wall Street”

Somethings just go together. I mean you got peanut butter and jelly, cheese and crackers, cocaine and waffles

With that in mind, we should probably add Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio to that list as they’re teaming up for their fifth film together. The film is an adaptation of Jordan Belfort’s memoir The Wolf of Wall Street. The film centers around Belfort partying hard in the mid 1980s but it all came crashing down when he was jailed for securities fraud, and subsequently banned for life from the business. The film will be shot from a working script by Terence Winter (Sopranos, and Boardwalk Empire fame), and will shoot in New York sometime in August.

If you’re not familiar with the memoir, you can check out a synopsis of it below:

Belfort, who founded one of the first and largest chop shop brokerage firms in 1987, was banned from the securities business for life by 1994, and later went to jail for fraud and money-laundering, delivers a memoir that reads like fiction. It covers his decade of success with straightforward accounts of how he worked with managers of obscure companies to acquire large amounts of stock with minimal public disclosure, then pumped up the price and sold it, so he and the insiders made large profits while public investors usually lost. Profits were laundered through purchase of legitimate businesses and cash deposits in Swiss banks. There is only brief mention of Belfort’s life before Wall Street or events since 1997. The book’s main topic is the vast amount of sex, drugs and risky physical behavior Belfort managed to survive. As might be expected in the autobiography of a veteran con man with movie rights already sold, it’s hard to know how much to believe.

Below you’ll see the press release for the film, announcing all the details:

Los Angeles, CA – April 19, 2012 – Martin Scorsese will direct “The Wolf of Wall Street” starring Leonardo DiCraprio. The deal, which brings Scorsese and DiCaprio together for their fifth feature collaboration, was made official today.

Red Granite Pictures owns the rights to Jordan Belfort’s best-selling memoir The Wolf of Wall Street, on which the film is based. Red Granite principals Riza Aziz and Joey McFarland are producing along with Leonardo DiCaprio (Appian Way), Martin Scorsese and Emma Koskoff (Sikelia Productions) and Alexandra Milchan (EMJAG Productions). Irwin Winkler and Georgia Kacandes will executive produce.

Leonardo DiCaprio will star as Jordan Belfort – the ‘Wolf of Wall Street.’

Terence Winter (“The Sopranos,” “Boardwalk Empire”) adapted the screenplay, which chronicles Belfort’s dramatic rise and fall on Wall Street, along with his hard-partying lifestyle and tumultuous personal life, which included drug and alcohol addiction.

“Everything about this film plays to Martin Scorsese’s genius and visionary storytelling, said Riza Aziz. “At its heart, ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ is about the rise of new ‘modern’ gangsters in New York. Wall Street gangsters that redefined excess, greed and arrogance. We’re excited to see Mr. Scorsese take the reins of this visceral, tumultuous ride.”

“All of us at Appian Way are thrilled to collaborate, once again, with Martin Scorsese,” said Jennifer Killoran, partner in Appian Way. “With Martin’s unique vision and our partnership with Red Granite Pictures and EMJAG, we are excited to bring this story to film.”

Production on “The Wolf of Wall Street” is slated to begin in August in New York.
