  • Battlefield 4: China Rising Gets A Launch Trailer

Battlefield 4 fans who decided to fork over an extra $50 for a year’s worth of downloadable content are finally being rewarded today with the release of the first DLC pack for DICE’s new shooter. The pack – China Rising – includes four new maps that take place in – you guessed it – China.

For those getting China Rising today, you will get the following four maps – Silk Road, Altai Range, Guilin Peaks and Dragon Pass. The maps, like all of Battlefield 4’s maps, promise to be expansive, destructible and feature a levolution event that will drastically alter how players maneuver through the map.

Aside from the new maps, the China Rising DLC pack also includes five new weapons, two new vehicles and two new gadgets. Of particular interest are the two new vehicles – one is the dirt bike from Battlefield 3 while another is an aerial bomber that can be deployed when players take control of a map’s control center. As for gadgets, support-class players can now deploy unmanned combat aerial vehicles while recon-class players can deploy small, unmanned aerial vehicles.

Here’s the first trailer that shows the new maps in action:

China Rising is available today on all platforms for those who purchased Battlefield Premium. It will be available to everybody else on December 17 and retail for $15.

  • New Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Map Pack Coming July 2

With all the coverage Call of Duty: Ghosts got at this year’s E3, it would be easy to forget that the Call of Duty fanbase is still hooked on Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. But Treyarch and Activision haven’t forgotten.

Just months away from the launch of Ghosts, the next map pack for Black Ops 2 has been announced. Titled Vengeance, the DLC will feature four new multiplayer maps, a new zombies map, and a new weapon to use against the zombie hordes. The content will be released for Xbox LIVE players on July 2, and later for PlayStation 3 and PC.

The trailer below gives a short preview of all the new content included in the DLC. The new maps are named Cove, Detour, Rush, and Uplink. Cove is a small map set on a tropical island. Rush is another small map that resembles a paintball arena. Detour is a long, multi-level map set on a war-torn suspension bridge. Uplink will be familiar to Call of Duty fans, as it is a re-make of Call of Duty: Black Ops‘ Summit map, re-skinned with less snow and more monitors.

  • Check Out The New Zombie Mode In Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2

During the reveal of the new Uprising map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Treyarch revealed a new zombie mode called Mob of the Dead. The new scenario takes place in Alcatraz as zombies take over the infamous prison.

Interestingly enough, Treyarch will be attempting to make its zombie mode more of a psychological horror game this time around, instead of the tower defense/survival gameplay of past zombie modes.

Mob of the Dead will be available on Xbox Live first as part of the Uprising map pack on April 16.

  • Check Out The New Uprising Map Pack For Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2

Are you finding yourself tired of the same ol’ maps in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2? If so, you will be pleased to know that Treyarch is set to release a new map pack on April 16.

Activision and Treyarch revealed this week that Uprising, the newest map pack for Call of Duty 2: Black Ops 2, will feature the usual four new maps and one new zombie campaign. Three of the maps – Magma, Encore and Vertigo – are entirely new. The other map – Studio – is a reimagining of the Firing Range map. As for the zombies mode, the new campaign is called “Mob of the Dead.”

The Uprising map pack will be available first on Xbox Live starting April 16. It will move to other platforms at a later date.

  • Halo 4 Trailer Released For New Map Pack

Halo 4 Trailer Released For New Map Pack

Though it’s often baffling that the shooter genre has spawned the most successful console franchises, a little observations could reveal why. Game franchises such as Call of Duty and Borderlands are well-supported by their developers and new content is being released for the titles on a nearly bi-monthly basis. Now, this could be a chicken-and-the-egg problem of which came first, but new, quality DLC certainly has helped shooter titles emerge as the most popular video games of this console generation.

Today, 343 Studios detailed its new multiplayer map pack for Halo 4. The “Majestic Map Pack” will launch next week, on Monday, February 25. Instead of the sprawling vehicle-filled maps Halo players got with the last map pack, these new maps will be “small to medium sized.” The pack will also come with new multiplayer playlists and the new “Infinity Rumble” game type.

The “Landfall” map will be set in the ruins of Tribute’s capital city and encourages close-range combat while providing plenty of “jump routes.”

The “Monolith” map features man-cannons and “open sightlines” that 343 states “harkens back to more classic Halo arana-based maps.”

The “Skyline” map is a small rooftop arena that offers lots of cover, but also has “explosive fuel cells” that can be exploited.

  • Halo 4 Limited Edition Available For Pre-Order

Halo 4 is now available for pre-order and Microsoft has just announced a limited edition version of the game that will be available on launch day, November 6. The limited edition will cost $100 and includes extra content not available to those who purchase the standard edition.

The limited edition of Halo 4 will come in the packaging seen above. Included with the game is informational material detailing the armor, weapons, and ships of Halo 4. Also included is a special 90-minute extended edition of the web series Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, complete with featurettes and behind-the-scenes material. Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn is a live-action web series that Microsoft will air in the months leading up to Halo 4’s release.

As for the game content provided with the limited edition, players will gain early access to three extra multiplayer maps from the War Games map pack. Limited edition buyers also get free downloads of three planned future map packs, each containing a total of three maps.

Limited edition purchasers will have the ability to unlock six “specializations” before they are available to standard edition purchasers. Microsoft states that “specializations” can be used to achieve higher spartan career rankings. Other than the fact that they “unlock new customization options,” it is unknown exactly what “specializations” are. However, if they increase a player’s chance at winning in Halo 4’s multiplayer, Microsoft could see a bit of a backlash from the Halo community. Players have never been comfortable with “pay for power” schemes in anything other than free-to-play games. More information about these “specializations” will be available at next month’s E3 gaming convention.

The free map packs alone make the Limited Edition of Halo 4 a good investment for players who anticipate playing the game well into the future. Still, Microsoft is choosing to hold back content that could (or very well may be) on the Halo 4 disc in order to sell it to players for an extra fee. This will serve to bifurcate the Halo 4 multiplayer community, at launch, into haves and have-nots. Less fortunate Halo fans who already see the $60 price tag of the standard edition of Halo 4 as a large investment will already be left behind.

  • Free Mass Effect 3 DLC Available Tomorrow

Free Mass Effect 3 DLC Available Tomorrow

With the amount of post-launch updates Bioware is coming out with, it almost seems like they forgot to finish making the game before release. They already have plans to release an extended version of the much maligned ending and a fix for the inability to import your Shepard character from previous Mass Effect games.

The latest update comes in the form of a free DLC called Mass Effect Resurgence Pack, that includes multiplayer maps, new characters, and new weapons. This is not something that players have really complained about, but I do think there should have been more maps for multiplayer.

The new maps are “Firebase Condor” and “Firebase Hydra”. Condor takes place on one of Palaven’s moons, and Hydra takes you to an abandoned Quarian colony.

The largest addition to this pack will be the inclusion of 6 new characters. In multiplayer, you will now be able to fight as an Asari Adept, Krogan Vanguard, Batarian Soldier, Batarian Sentinel, Geth Engineer, and Geth Infiltrator. The introduction of the Geth as playable characters is perhaps the most interesting, given that they were previously only featured in the game as enemies, not playable characters.

New guns include the Striker Assault Rifle, Kishock Harpoon Gun, and Geth Plasma SMG. In addition, new one mission use consumable merchandise will be available for in-game pack purchases. These include the Strength Enhancer (Applies melee damage boost), Targeting VI (Headshot damage boost), Stabilization Module (Weapon stabilization), and Shield Power Cells (Shortens shield recharge time).

The Resurgence Pack is available for free on XBox Live, Playstation Network and Origin beginning April 10.
