  • Charles Manson Still Bewitching Young Followers

One would think that Charles Manson is long past any effective influence on society. Aside from the occasional oddball who reads Helter Skelter and thinks Manson may have been on to something about this coming race war business, the perpetual inmate just wouldn’t seem like the kind of guy to attract acolytes.

But that would be a wrong assumption. It turns out that Manson has an online presence, and he has people who work that for him.

Charles Manson’s public work goes by the initials A.T.W.A. In its original sense, it stands for Air, Trees, Water, Animals. It is an ecological philosophy that he embraced even back in his Family days, before the murders and incarcerations.

Nowadays, the initials also stand for All The Way Alive. According to its website, the movement traces its roots back to the Manson Family.

”In 1967, we of the so-called “Manson Family” started the spectrum of colors into thought chambers related to the colors of the sky, earth, water, fire, plants, flowers, bugs, sea life and so on… The Earth is dying. We tried to tell you that 40 years ago but no one hears life on earth, they want it in outer space… Only a one world government will redeem ATWA on Earth…’’ – Charles Manson

The website itself claims to have been built “to put forth to the world, Charles Manson’s vision of Earth-Balance known as ATWA, it stands in defiance to those who have sold the world a lie. It exists as an archive of Mansonite thought collected from the last 40+ years”

The webmaster of the site is a fan who considers Manson a prophet. “Because he is infinitely wise and possesses just understanding, he is creative, honest, aware and unlike anyone on Earth.”

The site even espouses the old Helter Skelter notions as being applicable in today’s world.

Manson’s outreach via this site and other outlets has netted him admirers, not the least of which is one woman who considers herself Manson’s “wife”. Her name is Afton Burton, but she calls herself Star, and she says she hopes to become Manson’s official spouse one day.

“He filed for the first round of paperwork,” she told CNN. “I’m completely with him, and he’s completely with me. It’s what I was born for, you know. I don’t know what else to say.”

She even says that they would be married already if people with life sentences in California were allowed conjugal visits.

“I’ll tell you straight up, Charlie and I are going to get married. When that will be, we don’t know. But I take it very seriously. Charlie is my husband. Charlie told me to tell you this.”

But Charlie himself shrugs it off.

“Oh that,” he said. “That’s a bunch of garbage. You know that, man. That’s trash. We’re just playing that for public consumption.”

  • Bruce Davis, Member Of Manson Family, Granted Parole

Bruce Davis, 71, a former member of Charles Manson’s ‘family’, was granted parole on Wednesday. However, he may not get his wish of being a free man.

Davis was convicted of first degree murder, and sent to state prison in California, on April 21, 1972. He was found guilty of murdering Gary Hinman, a musician, and Donald “Shorty” Shea, a stuntman, in 1969. He was given a life sentence to be served at the Corcoran State Prison.

The Board of Parole Hearings in California granted Davis parole after his 28th parole hearing. However, Davis’ freedom does not solely rely on the decision of the Board. There is a 120-day internal review period, and then another 30 day waiting period in which Gov. Jerry Brown can overturn the decision. If Brown stands behind the Board’s decision, Davis will still be serving at least four more months in prison.

This is not the first time that Davis has been granted parole. In 2010 and 2012, the Board made the decision to give Davis parole based on Davis’ “positive adjustment, record of no recent disciplinary problems, and for successfully completing academic and vocational education and self-help programs.” However, former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Gov. Brown reversed the decision.

“When considered as a whole, I find the evidence … shows why he currently poses a danger to society if released from prison,” Brown said in 2013 regarding his decision. “Until Davis can acknowledge and explain why he actively championed the Family’s interests and shed more light on the nature of his involvement, I am not prepared to release him,” Brown continued in his statement. “After 42 years of incarceration, it is encouraging that Davis is beginning to reveal the actual details of what happened. But it is clear that he continues to withhold information about these events.”

If the Board’s decision holds, Davis will become the first member of the ‘family’ to be released for good behavior.

  • Charles Manson Denied Parole For Last Time

Infamous killer and mastermind Charles Manson was denied parole today for the 12th–and presumably last–time. He did not attend the hearing.

77-year old Manson was originally given the death sentence in 1972 for his role in orchestrating the murders of seven people, including pregnant actress Sharon Tate, but the sentence was overturned after California declared capital punishment unconstitutional. He won’t be given another chance at parole for 15 years, by which time he’ll be well into this 90’s.

While the details of the murders and the stories of those involved–including Manson–are too numerous and complicated to include here, they have been written about to get effect and at some length by people who are fascinated with the Manson Family. Prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi’s book, Helter Skelter, is particularly well-written and paints the L.A.P.D. as bearing most of the blame for a bungled investigation, due in part to their failure to connect some of the murders.

Perhaps one of the saddest things about the deaths is that they were random. Manson Family member Susan Atkins, the young woman who ended up spilling the beans on the entire ordeal while she was in a women’s detention center, said she and the three other Family members responsible for the killings chose the Tate house because it was isolated, situated as it was in the hills. Sharon Tate was eight months pregnant with a baby boy when she was stabbed to death.

I know that the passage of time makes Charles Manson seem like a joke, but read “Helter Skelter.” Manson should never be released.(image) 2 hours ago via TweetDeck ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto
