  • Man Saves Family From Fire, Goes Back For Beer

Meet Walter Serpit, a man who can’t resist Bud Light’s crisp, clean, refreshing taste. WTVM reported that last Thursday afternoon on 43rd St. in Columbus, Georgia, Serpit was sitting in his living room with six adults and two children when smoke began seeping in; a fire started from a malfunctioning water heater.

“I told them to get the kids out and everything, and me myself, being an alcoholic, I was trying to get my beer out,” Serpit told WTVM. “You feel me?”

Before the fire could even try to make him crispy, Serpit, who walks with a cane, went back inside the smoking house and coolly rescued several cans of Bud Light beer, seemly living by the company’s motto of “Grab a Bud”.

“I went back into the house like a dummy and the door shut on me because this back draft was about to kill me.”

Before the fire could get out of control, The Red Cross arrived along with a group of firefighters who immediately extinguished the flames. The firefighters arrived quickly because a neighbor called the department immediately and alerted them of the situation.

When users on Reddit saw the story of Serpit rescuing his beer, they automatically assumed that he may have been in Florida instead of Georgia:

This is because Florida has a notorious reputation for very strange things happening in it. In fact, in the last 24 hours of this day, the following occurred:

And apparently, as fast as the story broke, a subreddit titled “/r/georgiaman” appeared, which showcases the many wild inhabitants of the lovely southern state just above Florida.

No one was injured in the fire.

    This Buds for you!

  • Man, 70, Divorces 15-Year Old After Human Rights Backlash

A 70-year old Saudi man who married a 15-year old has swiftly divorced her after Human Rights officials stepped in on the girl’s behalf.

The man claimed the girl had been given up by her parents in exchange for $20,000 but then ran away; investigators believe the two had a dispute and she went back to her parents’ home out of fear. The man claimed he was rightfully owed the girl, and that she was presented to him as a 25-year old. He married her earlier this week, much to the outrage of Saudi Arabia’s Human Rights Commission.

“When you consider the very large difference in age, it looks more like this was not a marriage, but like the girl was sold,” Dr. Suhaila Zein al-Abedin said. “The girl’s parents need to be held responsible for this.”

The Human Rights Commission offered the girl legal help should she desire to seek a divorce, and as of Wednesday the divorce was granted.

  • Man, 70, Marries 15-Year Old After Family Sells Her

A 70-year old man who says a 15-year old girl’s family jilted him has married the teen in Saudi Arabia.

The man claims the girl’s parents sold her to him for $20,000 but that she ran back to them after the sale was complete. In order to solve the problem, he simply married her. Now, human rights workers are offering the girl as much help as they can give in preparation for a court dispute should she seek a divorce. They believe the girl was scared and left after a dispute with the man.

In today’s society, it’s difficult for some to believe that arranged marriages and the sale of children still exist; but in some countries, it is either tradition or a last resort some families turn to when they desperately need money. But in recent years, human rights activists have made it their mission to help young girls and women who have been essentially traded away, and say this particular case sounds more like one of a forced sale of a human being rather than a traditional arranged marriage.

“When you consider the very large difference in age, it looks more like this was not a marriage, but like the girl was sold,” Dr. Suhaila Zein al-Abedin said. “The girl’s parents need to be held responsible for this.”

The man, on the other hand, claims the girl is much older than her parents say she is.

“She is not 15 as everybody claims,” he said. “She’s 25 years old and she’s mature enough to make her own decisions… I was fooled by the girl’s family.”

Regardless of his claims, the girl’s story has garnered the support of thousands who have taken to twitter to voice their opinion on the matter.

  • Mudslide Buries Georgia Man Alive For Hours Before Help Comes

An Atlanta man apparently slipped and fell into a massive river of red clay at a construction site last week before getting stuck beneath its crushing weight.

Firefighters on the scene say he was under long enough to have his footprints obliterated by silt and mud which washed down from the site. His airway was obstructed when they found him, but he regained consciousness briefly. He also suffered from hypothermia, because it was an exceptionally chilly morning and the mud worked as a coolant. That, combined with what firefighters assume must have been an epic struggle, took a huge toll on him physically.

He was taken to the hospital immediately, but as of now there’s no word as to what condition he’s in.

Georgia is known for its dark red clay, which takes its color from iron oxides formed by interactions with the weather and the rocks found in the soil.

  • 8″ 3′ Man Finally Stops Growing After Treatment at Va. Med Center

Sultan Kosen of Turkey is the worlds tallest man. He is one of only eleven people in history to reach a height of over 8 feet, and up until recently, he was still growing.

Sultan suffers from acromegaly, a condition caused by a tumor in the pituitary gland. This tumor causes and excess of growth hormone to be produced in the brain, and if it starts while a patient is still growing in puberty, the condition can cause gigantism.

At the University of Virginia Medical Center, Sultan was receiving treatments with a new drug designed to control the production of growth hormone. He then underwent a new non-evasive radiation therapy called Gamma Knife radiosurgery in August 2010.

Due to the groundbreaking new surgery Sultan’s doctors in Turkey have told him that he has finally stopped growing

Dr Jason Sheehan, neurogurgeon at the University of Virginia Medical Center, and one of the doctors responsible for Sultan’s therapy told the New York Post, “I’m most pleased that we were able to help Sultan. If he had continued to grow, it would have been life-threatening.”
