  • Apple Says to Keep iPhone 12 and MagSafe ‘Safe Distance’ From Pacemaker

Apple Says to Keep iPhone 12 and MagSafe ‘Safe Distance’ From Pacemaker

Apple has warned the iPhone 12 and MagSafe accessories should be kept a “safe distance away” from pacemakers.

Pacemakers can be affected by magnetic fields. That has caused some concern the iPhone 12 may pose more of a risk, since it has more magnets than previous models.

Apple has updated its support document to warn users of potential issues. The company doesn’t expect the new models to be more dangerous, but recommends an abundance of caution.

Though all iPhone 12 models contain more magnets than prior iPhone models, they’re not expected to pose a greater risk of magnetic interference to medical devices than prior iPhone models.

Medical devices such as implanted pacemakers and defibrillators might contain sensors that respond to magnets and radios when in close contact. To avoid any potential interactions with these devices, keep your iPhone and MagSafe accessories a safe distance away from your device (more than 6 inches / 15 cm apart or more than 12 inches / 30 cm apart if wirelessly charging). But consult with your physician and your device manufacturer for specific guidelines.

iPhone 12 users with pacemakers would do well to follow Apple’s advice and consult with their physician.

  • Apple Bringing Popular Features Back In MacBook Updates

Apple Bringing Popular Features Back In MacBook Updates

Apple is preparing updates to the MacBook Air and Pro that will bring back some of their most popular features.

Apple’s MacBooks are its most popular computers, but the company was accused of letting them languish toward the end of the Intel era. In addition, some customers vehemently disagreed with some of Apple’s decisions that seemed to place more emphasis on form over function. This included removing popular features, such as the SD card slot and the MagSafe power adapter.

According to Bloomberg, the company is looking to bring these features back in upcoming models. The MacBook Pro is rumored to be getting the SD card slot back, with the Air slated to get MagSafe back. MagSafe magnetically attached the power cable to the Mac, rather than plugging it into a port. As a result, if it was snagged on something, it would simply disconnect without any risk of damage. Although Bloomberg’s report doesn’t mention the MacBook Pro, it’s likely it would receive this upgrade as well.

Apple is also reportedly working to add cellular connectivity and Face ID to the MacBook line. Both features have been notably missing from Apple’s portable Macs, despite being available on the iPad Pro. Adding these two features would be a big hit with current and future Mac users.

Now that Apple has tighter control over the Mac’s hardware, it’s a safe bet we will see a faster pace of innovation on the platform.

  • Apple’s MagSafe 2 Power Port [WWDC 2012 Coverage]

Another incredible development from the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2012) which kicked off today. This one comes straight off the redesign of the MacBook Pro. To match the MacBook’s new slimmer body (0.7″ total thickness) comes a more compact version of the MagSafe power adaptor port. It’s fittingly called the MagSafe 2 (very clever).

Other interface points featured alongside the MagSafe on the left side of the machine include a headphone jack, Thunderbolt, and a USB 3.0 port. On the right you’ll find a place for an SD card, an HDMI port, and another USB 3.0 port.

There’s more developments coming out of the conference as I write this. Several details about what we can expect from the new MacBook’s on top of the MagSafe 2 were leaked just before the start of today’s events. Follow this link to learn more. Keep checking back for breaking developments from our coverage of today’s happenings during WWDC 2012.
