    Rolls-Royce: Record Sales in 2012

While most of us are working toward climbing out of a years-long recession or struggling with unemployment, there are still a select few that are able to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a very nice car.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars today announced its third consecutive year of record sales. The company sold 3,575 cars last year, the most in its 108-year history. Rolls-Royce claims that it sells more cars in the “ultra luxury market” of cars costing over €200,000 than any other manufacturer.

“My aim at the outset of 2012 was another record. I am delighted to announce our sales for 2012 and to celebrate our 10th anniversary with an historic record result,” said Torsten Muller-Otvos , Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. “We had an outstanding year in spite of the challenges we faced, and Rolls-Royce now leads the ultra luxury market by some considerable margin. I applaud the Rolls-Royce workforce for their passion and commitment to this Great British brand and we can look forward to future success.”

Rolls-Royce sells vehicles in over 40 countries around the world. In 2012, the U.S. overtook China as the largest regional buyer of Rolls-Royce cars. However, other regions such as the Middle East and Europe saw large sales growth in 2012 as well. Saudi Arabia’s sales in particular were up 63%. The company also opened 30 new or refurbished dealerships, which it now has over 100 of around the world.

  • Lamborghini SUV Is Called The Urus, Features 600 Horsepower And All-Wheel Drive

Growing up, I always admired the Lamborghini line of automobiles. My favorite make was the Diablo for its great curves and speed. It was the kind of car that I would never be able to afford, but I would be happy to just sit in one. The company’s new automobile is making me like a vehicle that I never thought could look sexy – the SUV.

Lamborghini publicly unveiled its new SUV concept at the Beijing Auto Show. It’s called the Urus, which is a race of ancient Spanish bulls. It keeps up Lamborghini’s image of powerful and fast vehicles. The unveiled specs confirm that with its 600 horsepower and permanent all-wheel drive.

Stephan Winkelmann, president of Automoboli Lamborghini, said that SUVs “stand for freedom and expression.” To that end, the Urus is “a very concrete idea for the future of Lamborghini.” I’m fine with them getting into the SUV business. It’s going to be a wonderful and expensive SUV that makes me jealous all over again. The company just needs to make sure they keep on making sexy cars that make me jealous of all the nice things I’ll never own.

As for the early specs of the Urus, Lamborghini hasn’t said much. The only thing they’re aiming for is to have the lowest CO2 emissions of any SUV. An ambitious goal and one I’m sure the company can achieve. Now if they can get the miles-per-gallon down to a reasonable amount, it might force other SUV makers to make their vehicles more environmentally friendly.

There has been no price announced yet. It’s expected that the first run will see 3,000 of the Urus manufactured though. I think you can guess what the price will be now.

The Twitter reaction has been largely positive with a few people disappointed that Lamborghini is making an SUV.

I realize my taste in cars is questionable (e.g.: I drive a PT Cruiser) but this proposed Lambo SUV is sweeeeet http://t.co/jAu4NEWN(image) 25 minutes ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto
