Her rep said, “Liza Minnelli has valiantly battled substance abuse over the years and whenever she has needed to seek treatment she has done so. She is currently making excellent progress at an undisclosed facility.”

A source close to Liza Minnelli updated People on her progress on Saturday, stating “Liza is doing very well in rehab and coming along fine.”

That is no surprise, since the resilience of Liza Minnelli is well known. However, the surprising part is that Minnelli is ready to get back to work!

In fact, Liza Minnelli was offered half a million dollars to do Celebrity Rehab, but she turned it down.

  • Liza Minnelli’s Reason For Missing Joan Rivers’ Funeral

Liza Minnelli was close with comedian Joan Rivers, but she says she wasn’t able to attend the icon’s star-studded funeral over the weekend due to serious health problems.

The 68-year old–who has been wheelchair-bound in the past due to back problems–said she tripped over one of her dogs and broke her lower back, which will require her to undergo surgery once again. The actress/singer was bedridden during Rivers’ sendoff, something that she deeply regrets.

“I couldn’t go to Joan Rivers’s funeral, which I desperately wanted to because I loved her, but I couldn’t go because I can’t walk. I’m in bed. Going in for surgery. I broke my lower back,” she told the New York Post.

Minnelli explained the bizarre accident, which occurred when she tried to pick up her pets and they jumped up, causing her to lose her balance.

“I got twisted and fell. I thought: It’s nothing. But it wasn’t nothing. It became something. After an X-ray, seems I busted it and have to have it fused. The operation’s next week.”

Rivers passed away earlier this month after her air supply was reportedly cut off during a procedure on her vocal chords. She was put into a medically-induced coma for several days, but ultimately succumbed at the age of 81.

  • Liza Minnelli And Her Connection To A Disruptive Shia LaBeouf

Liza Minnelli may be over four decades removed from her Oscar-winning portrayal of Sally Bowles in Caberet, but her name is coming up in headlines this week in connection with it after a disorderly young actor was escorted out of the theater in handcuffs.

Shia LaBeouf, who has had his fair share of headlines recently, was kicked out of the Broadway performance–which stars Michelle Williams and Alan Cumming–on Thursday after he reportedly disrupted the show and its actors. According to a source at Us Weekly, LaBeouf was “interacting with strangers during the show and slapping peoples’ backsides and harassing audience members, harassing actors on the stage, and chain smoking inside the theater.” As a cheeky nod to Minnelli, her rep, Scott Gorenstein, sent LaBeouf a copy of the movie on DVD.

“I figured he may want to find out how it ends,” Gorenstein said.

LaBeouf has faced a lot of criticism in recent months following a controversial role in the film Nymphomaniac, a plagiarism scandal which boiled over after he reportedly plagiarized his apology, an odd appearance on the red carpet in which he wore a paper bag over his head that said, “I am not famous anymore”, and at least two separate bar fights that were caught on film. It’s not clear what set off the incident at the theater, but he was caught on camera again earlier this month getting rowdy outside a strip club in NYC.

LaBeouf was arraigned on Friday but will return to court on July 24 on charges of disorderly conduct, criminal trespassing and harassment.

  • Liza Minnelli Punks Shia LaBeouf

Sometimes celebrities do really stupid things. And sometimes other celebrities call them on it and have a little fun at their expense.

First we reported today on Jay-Z and Beyonce poking a bit of fun at Justin Bieber over his arrests and mugshot, flashing his photo in concert among other great names, providing a juxtaposition that many are seeing as a straight up shade.

And now there is the case of Liza Minnelli and Shia LaBeouf.

Msr. LaBeouf, it seems, doesn’t know how to behave in a theatre. Not a cinema, where you can get up for popcorn, unwrap candy, and leave a mess when you leave. This was a real theatrical performance, to whit: Cabaret.

Cabaret is a musical play about a small club in Berlin in the World War II era. The characters sing about where they came from, the randy exploits in the club, and Nazism.

According to attendees and police reports, Shia LaBeouf was attending a performance of Cabaret at Studio 54, when he started yelling and cat-calling the female actresses. At one point, he allegedly stood up and smacked actor Alan Cumming, then onstage, on the behind.

This sort of thing is not tolerated in a theatre. Soon, a security guard asked LaBeouf to leave, but he refused to go. Police were called. LaBeouf resisted arrest. He began spitting at officers, so they cuffed him and put on a spit mask muzzle.

LaBeouf continued to scream at officers.

“F*ck you! This is f*cking bullshit. Do you know my life? Do you know who the F*ck I am? Do you know who I am?”

LaBeouf was taken to the station house. He continued to rant, calling an officer a “fag”. LaBeouf was charged with five misdemeanors, including trespassing, disorderly conduct and harassment.

The next day, the fun started.

Liza Minnelli was in Cabaret, the film version, back in 1972. A rep for Minnelli sent LaBeouf a DVD copy of that film.

“I figured he may want to find out how it ends,” joked Scott Gorenstein.

“What can I say? I just had to.”

LaBeouf has not responded about the bit of shade thrown his way. If Minnelli’s rep was acting on his own accord, there is no word about his catching any flack for it either.

  • Liza Minnelli’s Rep Sends ‘Cabaret’ to Shia LaBeouf

At least there is someone out there feeling sorry for Shia LaBeouf — or maybe not.

Just a day following LaBeouf ‘s boot out of the Broadway show “Cabaret” at Studio 54, Scott Gorenstein, a rep for Liza Minnelli, reached out to the troubled actor.

Apparently Gorenstein sent LaBeouf a DVD copy of the Bob Fosse film, which starred Minnelli and earned eight Academy Awards.

“I figured he may want to find out how it ends,” quipped Gorenstein.

The 28-year-old actor was booted from the theater and arrested at intermission after being disruptive during the performance, spanking star Alan Cumming on the bottom and yelling obscenities during the show.

According to the criminal complaint, a security guard at Studio 54 saw LaBeouf stand up in the middle of the performance and taunt the actors onstage. The security guard asked LaBeouf to leave the theater, but he refused to go.

As LaBeouf was escorted out of Studio 54, he screamed at the arresting police officer.

“F— you. This is f—cking bullshit. Do you know my life? Do you know who the F— I am? Do you know who I am?” ranted LaBeouf.

As LaBeouf was being arrested, he spat at the cop, according to the arresting officer.

He was charged with 5 misdemeanor counts, including trespassing, disorderly conduct and harassment. Bail was set at $2,500 and he was released on his own recognizance.

If LaBeouf‘s recent behavior is all just an act as he has claimed, it’s probably time for him to drop it!

LaBeouf’s next court date is scheduled for July 24.

  • Liza Minnelli Responds To Ellen’s Oscar Joke

Maybe you didn’t notice, but Ellen DeGeneres was very Ricky-Gervais-like when she hosted the Oscar Awards on Sunday.

Usually, the comedian and talk show host is silly rather than snarky, but the other night she threw a some really good stingers at a few celebrities in the audience. But perhaps the stinger that received the most attention was the one she hurled at Liza Minnelli.

“And I have to say one of the most amazing Liza Minnelli impersonators I have seen in my entire life,” said DeGeneres from the stage, which of course drew lots of chuckles. “Just really, seriously, Good job, sir.”

When the camera panned over to Minnelli, she wasn’t smiling at all. In fact, it was easy to see that she was uncomfortable, and recently she told TMZ she thought DeGeneres took things too far.

“I think she thought it would be funny,” said the legendary entertainer. “But she never stopped after she said it, so I think it went a little astray on her.”

And Minnelli wasn’t the only one who felt offended. Steve Schonberg, theater-writer and big Minnelli supporter, created a petition on Change.org to get DeGeneres to apologize.

And despite the comedian being gay herself, Schonberg said he found her joke to be homophobic. “Specifically, I was most offended that Ellen would act that way as a fellow gay person,” wrote Schonberg. “Liza has been such an avid supporter of our community, even during the peak of the AIDS crisis, and simply put, I think she deserves more respect.”

But Minnelli didn’t believe DeGeneres was being disrespectful, she just thinks she was being too harsh, and even though the 67 year old probably wishes the joke was never made, she still feels it didn’t come from a mean place.

“I don’t think she meant any harm at all,” said Minnelli. “She’s a wonderful lady.”

  • Liza Minelli Performs A Show, Despite A Broken Wrist

Liza Minnelli found the strength to perform a concert last night, despite having a broken wrist. The aging star seems to still have a few tricks up her sleeve, and while she was advised not to do so, she went ahead and performed through an injury. During the performance, she shared the stage with her half-sister Lorna Luft, and it has been a very long time since the two have performed together.

She went against doctors orders in order to support her sister, and kept her left wrist temporarily stabilized with a white cast and pink bandana. She was not going to let a little injury interfere with helping to promote the benefit show, which was designed to support The Actors Fund’s Phyllis Newman Women’s Health Initiative and Tower Cancer Research Foundation’s Dr. Philomena McAndrew Fund.

A representative for Minnelli said that she broke her wrist in three places, while rehearsing for the show on Sunday night. The doctors had told her not to perform in her condition, but the show was just too important for her to miss out on it. Her sister, Luft, is currently in a battle with breast cancer and the show was very important for her to help her sister’s cause.

Minnelli and her sister Luft performed at the iconic Birdland jazz club on Monday, October 14th. This marks the first time that they have appeared on a stage together as a duet in over 20 years, with the last time being a performance at the 1993 Tony Awards.

The two singers share a mother in the late legend of film, Judy Garland, but have different fathers. In addition to her musical career, Liza Minnelli has also appeared in numerous films, notably and television shows, notably Cabaret, which she acted and sang in. Many viewers in recent years have also fallen in love with her character Lucille Austero on Arrested Development.

Before taking the stage last night, she said with emotion, “Lorna asked me to be here and I wouldn’t let her down.” Liza Minnelli, the 67-year-old multi-talented entertainer was forced to head to the hospital following the concert for further treatment.
