  • Zendaya Coleman: Rumored Reason Why She Quit the Aaliyah Biopic

Zendaya Coleman has officially dropped out of the Lifetime biopic of Aaliyah.

On Sunday, June 29, the 17-year-old singer-actress’ representative released a statement announcing her decision to decline the role of the late singer.

According to Yahoo! News, Coleman explained that problems with production ultimately led to her decision to opt out of the film. The teenage Disney star specifically said she no longer wanted to be affiliated with the film because “production-wise, (it) wasn’t all the way there.”

“Because it’s someone that I honor, and I respect so much, it has to be 128 percent, especially for all her fans, including myself,” Zendaya said yesterday upon arrival at the Nokia Theater for the 2014 BET Awards.

“I didn’t feel like it was all the way there, so I didn’t want to do that. And when the time comes when it’s done right, and its 100 percent, by all means, I will be the first person there ready to go.”

Another statement was posted to Coleman’s official Twitter account confirming the decision. “Aaliyah has always been a source of inspiration to Zendaya,” she tweeted. “She was honored to portray her and pay tribute to her. If she is going to do it, she wants to do it right.”

The Lifetime network also responded to Coleman’s statement via Twitter. “We are sad Zendaya will no longer portray Aaliyah. Production is currently on hold.”

Although, Coleman explained her reasoning for dropping out of the film, several media outlets are reporting a different issue she was plagued with upon being cast for the role.

Immediately after the network announced that the “Swag it Out” singer had been cast for the highly lauded role, she became a direct target for criticism.

According to Yahoo! Celebrity, the “One In A Million” singer’s family was also outraged by the network’s decision because they had not been consulted, at all. It has also been rumored that the family is not pleased with Lifetime’s production platform for the highly anticipated biopic.

Aaliyah’s cousin, Blackground Records president, Jomo Hankerson, weighed in on behalf of the family from a professional perspective. The longtime record label executive stated that legal aspects could also prohibit the production of the film.

“Because we control the masters [to Aaliyah’s recordings], the rights and some images of the musical elements that we put together like the videos, and photo shoots and things that we did, what we can just withhold those elements from the production, which we would do,” Hankerson explained.

No further details have been announced about the continuation of production for the film.

  • Jennifer Love Hewitt’s The Client List Is Cancelled

Jennifer Love Hewitt, will have to start looking for work soon, after her drama The Client List just announced its cancellation. The Client List has been cancelled by the Lifetime network after two seasons on the air. She is an actress that has starred in several television shows and films.

The Client List was a racy drama, and perhaps too racy for television, that centered on a massage therapist (Hewitt) who operated at a happy-ending massage parlor, trying to make ends meet after being left by her husband.

The show finished its second season in June, and was based on the 2010 film of the same name. Hewitt also served as the executive producer on the series.

The announcement of the show’s cancellation comes just months after a disagreement between Hewitt and the network. According to Deadline, she had asked about her fiancee playing the baby’s daddy in the show, in an interesting plot arc that the other producers and network did not seem to agree with.

Many different storylines were analyzed and considered, but it seems that the decision to abort the show may be have been largely due to their disagreement about the show’s future.

Jennifer Love Hewitt has previously starred in The Ghost Whisperer and Party of Five on television, and rocketed to stardom in the Holllywood life at a young age with her role in the horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Whether Jennifer Love Hewitt decides to go back to work soon or not, she will undoubtedly have her hands full, as she is also expecting a baby with her co-star on the show. News of her pregnancy with Brian Hallisay made headlines in June, and the couple are very excited about starting a family together. Talking about her future with Hallisay, Hewitt said “We’re so thrilled and happy to start a family.”

  • Holly Deveaux Set to Portray Casey Anthony in New Movie

Holly Deveaux, who you may remember from such motion pictures as, well, nothing, has signed on to play Casey Anthony in a new movie produced by — wait for it — the Lifetime Network. According to UPI, the film will be entitled “Imperfect Justice”, and focus more on the legal aspect of the case than the details surrounding the toddler’s murder.

Despite my snarky comments, Deveaux has actually been in a few low-budget productions, including the made-for-television movie “Silent Witness” and the indie flicks “Tile Man”, “Unlucky”, and “Victoria Day”. For those of you who are perpetually glued to the proverbial boob tube, you may have seen the 19 year-old Canadian in such programs as “Less than Kind”, “Baxter”, and “Murdoch Mysteries”.

Also tapped to star in upcoming film are Elizabeth Mitchell (“Lost”), Oscar Nunez (“The Office”), and Rob Lowe, the latter of whom really needs no introduction. Lowe, as you may recall, has starred in a few Lifetime original movies in his day, including “Drew Peterson: Untouchable” with “Big Bang Theory” co-star Kaley Cuoco and “Too Late to Say Goodbye” with Lauren Holly.

Is it too soon for a Casey Anthony movie? Regardless of how you feel about the upcoming production, Lifetime clearly thinks the time is right to tell one side of story. I’m sure ratings will shoot straight through the roof. As always, Twitter users have weighed in on the subject. You can find a small selection of their thoughts and feelings below.
