  • Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luther Fires Up Twitterverse

The twitterverse is all fired up over the news that Jesse Eisenberg has been cast to play Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder’s sequel to 2012′s Man of Steel.

Eisenberg, best known for his Oscar-nominated role as Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network and as nerdy Columbus in Zombieland, will join Jeremy Irons who was cast as Bruce Wayne’s butler, Alfred. They will join Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.

“Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940,” Snyder said. “What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.”

On many levels, the selection of Eisenberg is surprising. Most believed Breaking Bad‘s Bryan Cranston was a shoo-in for the role and some wonder if the 30-year-old actor can pull off the role that is associated with Gene Hackman.

Snyder’s choice of Academy-Award winner Irons as Bruce Wayne’s English butler doesn’t seem to be garnering the same negative attention as the casting of Eisenberg.

“As everyone knows, Alfred is Bruce Wayne’s most trusted friend, ally and mentor, a noble guardian and father figure,” Snyder said. “He is an absolutely critical element in the intricate infrastructure that allows Bruce Wayne to transform himself into Batman. It is an honor to have such an amazingly seasoned and gifted actor as Jeremy taking on the important role of the man who mentors and guides the guarded and nearly impervious façade that encapsulates Bruce Wayne.”

  • Denzel Washington The New Lex Luthor?

Denzel Washington The New Lex Luthor?

It just wouldn’t be Hollywood if there weren’t rumors abounding about which actor will be playing a coveted part. This time around it’s Denzel Washington as Lex Luthor in the upcoming “Man of Steel 2/Batman vs Superman.”

The rumors of Washington playing Superman’s arch-nemesis started in early December when a source revealed that they were already testing for the part of Lex Luthor. Washington was at the top of their list, but nothing has materialized just yet. Other’s on this list included Idris Elba and a certain reoccurring cast member from the CW series Arrow who also fits the description.

Elba would be a hard get, especially since he plays Hemdall in Marvel’s Thor films. It might also be quite difficult for the actor from Arrow to portray Lex Luthor if the DC world ever wanted to bring the characters of Arrow to the big screen. So that would leave Washington.

One thing’s for sure, Washington has proven that he can play the villain very well. His Oscar winning performance from Training Day anyone?

This newest rumor of Washington playing Lex Luthor comes off the heels of the rumor Joaquin Phoenix would be playing the role.

And before that the rumor mill was circulating that Breaking Bad‘s Bryan Cranston might even be playing the part. Those rumors were quickly proved false by Cranston himself.

Don’t know if this guy approves of Washington as Lex Luthor, but at least he enjoys his work.

And if he does get the role there is at least one person who is certain to go see the movie.

While it isn’t clear yet whether or not the character of Lex Luthor will even be in the sequel to Man of Steel, casting choices we do know include Ben Affleck as Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.

So internet, I guess it’s time to start ranting and/or raving about Washington as Lex Luthor.

  • Denzel Washington Might Be Lex Luthor

Denzel Washington Might Be Lex Luthor

If you were all settled on being upset or elated at Joaquin Phoenix being cast as the iconic Lex Luthor, you may have to hold that thought. The current buzz suggests there may be a chance that the supervillain may be played by none other than Denzel Washington. Like Phoenix, Washington isn’t a stranger to powerful performances as memorable villains. He’s played his share of bad guys and anti-heroes, so it wouldn’t take much to get the actor in touch with his darker side. In “Training Day”, Washington played a dirty cop, a role that won him an Academy Award.

Of course, there is no word yet that Lex Luthor will even be in the “Man of Steel” sequel. Despite casting news being made available for the role of Batman and even Wonder Woman, the character most central to the Superman story other than the titular character is notably absent from official news. Comic movie fans aren’t giving up hope.

After the Lex Luther logo was spotted in the first movie, the door was seemingly opened to an appearance by Superman’s arch-enemy. Why feature something so important and then do nothing with it? This is probably what Marvel fans are asking themselves about the villain Thanos who was referenced at the very end of the “Avengers” movie. Despite that menacing smile, he is not to be the villain of the upcoming “Avengers: Age of Ultron” movie.

It could have been an “easter egg” for the clever and informed fan and nothing more.

If a casting choice is made, fans may be disappointed to see so many A+ list names passed on for a virtual unknown, or even worse, someone viewed as remarkably unsuited to the task. This has been the case with virtually every casting choice going back to the first movie.

Controversy is inevitable, but if they do opt to introduce Mr. Luthor with the right actor, this is one chance to really capitalize on buzz with a big name with big “bad guy” potential.

So…who do YOU think is the best man for the role?

  • Lex Luthor to be Played by Bryan Cranston

Lex Luthor to be Played by Bryan Cranston

Rumors have recently been spilled suggesting that Bryan Cranston will star in the ‘Man of Steel’ movie sequel, coming out soon. He will play Lex Luthor, Superman’s supervillain. There has been a lot of discussion saying that Ben Affleck will play Batman in the new movie and Henry Cavill will return to play Superman.

The movie is a sequel to the first Superman movie. It has been reported that the film will be titled ‘Batman vs. Superman’. Comic Book News said that Bryan Cranston will not only play Lex Luthor in ‘Batman vs. Superman’, but he will also star in at least six different Justice League related movies for the DC Comics franchise.

Cranston currently plays Walter White in the AMC drama series, Breaking Bad. He is the star of the show. The drama revolves around a chemistry teacher who turned into a meth chemist. The fifth and final season of the show is currently taking place.

When the end of series finale takes place at the end of September, it is scheduled that the announcement will then be made by Comic Book News as to wither or not Bryan Cranston will play the role of Lex Luthor in the new Superman movie. He played a very intense character on the show and his experience makes him a great candidate to be apart of the new movie.

The Breaking Bad star has also acted in the movies ‘Argo’ and ‘Drive’, which Ben Affleck had major roles in as well. If they are reunited in the filming of this movie, they will not let us down.

  • The Joker Introduces Lex Luthor To A Crowbar In The Latest Injustice: Gods Among Us Matchup

Last week, WB Games started up the Injustice Battle Arena where fans of the upcoming fighter could vote to see who fights who in weekly match ups. The first week saw Batman face off against Bane and Wonder Woman face off against Harley Quinn. Batman and Wonder Woman moved on to the second round.

This week, the two match ups are a bit more interesting. First up, we have The Joker vs. Lex Luthor in a fight that sees The Joker using some classic weapons, like his trusty crowbar, against the power suit fitted Lex. Lex has some tricks of his own, however, including an orbital laser that he calls down upon enemies.

The second fight is between The Flash and Shazam, which seems a little unfair. Shazam definitely holds his own though, and puts up a terrific fight. That being said, The Flash had this one in the bag.

The Battle Arena will be back next week with two more match ups that will probably be just as exciting as the last four have been. Here’s hoping newly announced Aquaman gets his chance to shine soon.

Injustice: Gods Among Us comes out for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U on April 16.

  • EGOS Illustrated Radness Pairs Up For Superhero Fun

The fight between good and evil is a battle that has been raging since the beginning of time. God fighting Lucifer and casting him down to hell, The Olympians fighting the Titans, the Rebellion fighting the Empire. These are age old battles that define us as human beings.

Artist Adam Limbert from the United States decided to put some of the greatest adversaries (and one set of friends) on the same pice of art work together to show how close they really are. Even though they are mortal enemies. He calls it his EGOS project. This is what he had to say about his project:

“My current EGOS project is just my illustrated way of giving back the cultural radness that I grew up with and that helped shape the person and artist I am today. It’s my “thank you” to all the artists and illustrators that gave me all the nerdy art stuff I love.”

Check out Adam’s Deviant Art page to see some other cool stuff including art pieces featuring Optimus Prime and Lion-O.
