  • LEGO City Undercover Prequel Headlines Nintendo Download This Week

It’s another week and that means another Nintendo Download update that brings new content to your Nintendo 3DS, DSi and Wii U. This week’s download is full of retail games and sales on some of the best eShop games the 3DS has to offer.

First up is LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins, the prequel to LEGO City Undercover on the Wii U. The game will be available starting April 21 at retail and on the eShop.

At the Nintendo 3DS Direct event yesterday, Nintendo announced that it would be localizing the next three games in the Guild series from Level 5. Before those come out, you can now grab the first games in the Guild series at a reduced price this week. Liberation Maiden and Crimson Shroud are both $4.99 while Aero Porter is $2.99. Aside from the Guild series, Dress to Play: Cute Witches will also be on sale for $1.99 this week.

The following games will also launch on the 3DS eShop this week:

  • Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns 3D (Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS)
  • Mystery Murders: Jack the Ripper (Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS)
  • Puzzler Brain Games (Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS – Available April 23)
  • Puzzler World 2013 (Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS – Available April 23)
  • Super Little Acorns 3D Turbo (Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS)

  • Puzzler World 2013 (DSiWare on Nintendo DSi – Available April 23)
  • Working Dawgs: Rivet Retriever (DSiWare on Nintendo DSi)
  • On a final note, the season finale for BearShark will air on Nintendo Video this week.

  • LEGO City Undercover Launch Trailer Showcases T-Rex Wrangling

After a two month drought, the Wii U is finally getting two of its most highly anticipated launch window titles – LEGO City Undercover and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. The former will be launching next Monday, and Nintendo has a final launch trailer to coincide with the release:

Beyond a few tired movie references, LEGO City Undercover still looks charming as ever. The game has also been getting mostly positive reviews with a few middling scores thrown throughout.

LEGO City Undercover will launch exclusively for Wii U on March 18.

  • LEGO City: Undercover Marks Wii U’s Return To TV Ads

Nintendo is in a pickle. It needs to sell more hardware before its fiscal year ends this month. January was not kind to the console, and we should soon be seeing if February was any better. For March, however, Nintendo has a few aces up its sleeve, including the delightful LEGO City: Undercover.

LEGO City: Undercover has received multiple online trailers to date, but none of them are going to have much mainstream impact. For that, Nintendo needs to make sure its first new TV ad in two months does a good job of selling the console’s unique qualities.

The ad doesn’t exactly scream system seller to me, but preexisting Wii U owners will probably buy the game as they’ve been starved for content the past few months. LEGO City: Undercover isn’t alone in March, however, as Capcom will be releasing the highly anticipated Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on the Wii U and 3DS later this month.

LEGO City: Undercover will be available exclusively on March 18 exclusively for Wii U.

  • LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins Previewed by Nintendo

Today’s Nintendo Direct was almost entirely 3DS-related, and the “Year of Luigi” theme carried through most of the presentation. There was, however, an interlude in which non-Luigi games were featured and a longer look at LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins was seen.

The Chase Begins is the 3DS version of the upcoming Wii U exclusive title LEGO City Undercover. Rather than port an inferior version of the Wii U game, however, TT Games has created an entirely new game for Nintendo‘s handheld console. The Chase Begins will follow the protagonist of LEGO City Undercover, Chase McCain, as he begins journey toward undercover work as a rookie cop.

If the new trailer is any indication, the 3DS prequel had the same writing team as LEGO City Undercover did. Players can look forward to silly humor, cops-and-robbers movie cliches, and fetching donuts for the deputy.

The game is currently scheduled for an April 21 release, around one month after the Wii U LEGO title is released.

  • New LEGO City Undercover Trailer Goes Undercover

The announcement yesterday that Rayman Legends will be delayed to September and will no longer be a Wii U exclusive was a huge blow to early adopters of the Wii U. The title was one of the most anticipated games that fell within Nintendo‘s Wii U “launch window.” Now Wii U owners will have to wait while Ubisoft retools the game (which was, by developer accounts, complete) for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

So, the dearth of new, exclusive Wii U titles continues. Wii U owners will now have to look toward March 18, when LEGO City Undercover hits stores in the U.S. Luckily, that game is shaping up to be one of the best in Telltale Games’ long line of well-received LEGO video games. The game’s Grand Theft Auto-style open-world gameplay and satirical cops-and-robbers movie humor should provide some basic comfort to gamers angry about the Rayman situation.

Today’s new LEGO City Undercover trailer shows that player will, indeed, be taking Chase McCain undercover.

  • LEGO City Undercover Trailer Previews Wii U GamePad Integration

During the latest Nintendo Direct, Nintendo made a point to apologize to early Wii U adopters for the lack of new games coming out in February and March. However, one of the most promising “launch window” titles will be released on March 18 in the U.S (March 28 in Europe).

LEGO City Undercover combines the sandbox, cops-and-robbers gameplay of a Grand Theft Auto title with the family-friendly humor of the LEGO video games. A new trailer released today by Nintendo demonstrates how the Wii U GamePad will be used to display the game map and deliver messages to players. TT Games has also revealed that the GamePad will be used to scan areas for clues or criminals.
