  • Jack White Nominated for Best Rock Song Grammy

Academy Award-nominated musician Jack White’s “Lazaretto” has been nominated for Best Rock Song for next year’s Grammy Awards.

The other nominations in the category include Paramore’s “Ain’t It Fun,” the Black Keys’ “Fever,” Beck’s “Blue Moon” and Ryan Adams’ “Gimme Something Good.”

White was also nominated in the 2015 Grammy categories for Best Rock Performance and Best Alternative Music Album for Lazaretto. He is also nominated Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package for his work on The Rise & Fall Of Paramount Records, Volume One (1917-27), alongside Susan Archie and Dean Blackwood.

White has previously been nominated for various Grammy Awards 24 times, and has won eight, so far.

Here is the video for “Lazaretto”:

A lazaretto is a quarantine facility for sea travelers, and can comprise a ship at anchor, an island or a structure on the mainland. Leper colonies were once called lazar houses, named after the story of Lazarus the Beggar.

White has stated that he partly based the album around a series of poems, plays and short stories he’d written when he was 19. He rediscovered his writings while rummaging through his attic.

Lazaretto debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 138,000 copies in its first week. Interestingly, “Lazaretto” has the world record for the fastest recording ever produced. According to White’s label Third Man Records, the first batch of seven inch singles was recorded, pressed, assembled and available for sale in three hours, 55 minutes and 21 seconds.

White, 39, shattered the standing Guinness World Record set by Swiss polka trio Vollgas Kompanie, who issued their album Live, the day after they recorded it.

White, born John Anthony Gillis, gained notoriety as the principal singer/songwriter for The White Stripes, which he formed with drummer Meg White in 1997 in Detroit, Michigan.

Lazaretto is also the title of his upcoming album that is available for pre-sale now and that will be released on June 9th and 10th. The title is up for debate, and Jack White is being the typical musician and not completely explaining it, but Lazaretto could be seen as a blend of “Lazarus” (the Biblical guy who rose from the dead) and the Italian music tempo marking modifier “-etto.” You can sign up for a pre-order of the album called The Vault edition that includes a 40-page hardcover book with lyrics, photos and music notations, a blue-and-white vinyl, a fold-out poster and more.

  • Jack White Reveals New Album, Set To Be Released In June

Jack White has had a number of popular music projects throughout his career, and the native of Detroit just announced that he will be releasing another solo album in just a few short months. His second solo album is set to be released in June.

Following his first solo release “Blunderbuss,” which was released in 2012, Jack White revealed that he would be releasing his next album soon, and it is called “Lazaretto.” He announced the album on his website, which also features details about how to get a special package with a vinyl copy, and much more along with it when signing up for the vault package.

His first attempt at a solo record made it to No.1 for the first time in his career, and he has worked with several bands previously. Prior to venturing out on his own, he had recorded multiple albums with various groups such as The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and The Dead Weather.

His last album received nominations at the Grammy Awards in both 2013 and 2014, an album that featured both an all-female, and an all-male band, which appear separately on different songs. He rotates which band he plays with at various shows as well.

“Blunderbuss” contained hit singles such as “Love Interruption,” “Freedom At 21,” and “I’m Shakin’,” which was most recently nominated for the Grammy for Best Rock Performance. White’s song “Love Is Blindness” was also featured in The Great Gatsby in 2013.

Jack White’s next album, “Lazaretto” will be released by Columbia via Third Man Records, the label that was started by White, and is based out of Nashville, Tennessee, where he now resides. The title track of the album, which is set to be its first single, will be released later this month.

In the meantime, he has given fans a first listen with an instrumental track called “High Ball Stepper,” which had its music video released on Youtube yesterday. The video was directed by longtime Jack White collaborator Ben Swank, and features plenty of a good helping of his guitar skills that fans love.

Jack White is set to be one of the headliner’s of the 2014 Bonnaroo lineup, and will also appear at the Governor’s Ball Music Festival in New York City. His second solo album, “Lazaretto,” will hit stores on June 10, 2014.
