  • Jenna Bush Hager Receives Special Phone Call On ‘Today Show’ Set Before Taking Maternity Leave

Jenna Bush Hager became teary on the set of The Today Show on Tuesday, right before heading off for maternity leave. She and her husband are expecting their second child on August 13. They are the parents of two-year-old daughter Mila.

Immediately following a segment Jenna Bush did on Reese Witherspoon, she was showered with baby gifts by the Today Show anchors.

That wasn’t the only big surprise for the daughter of former President George W. Bush and the granddaughter of former President George H.W. Bush, however.
A phone call from two very special people–while on the air live–brought Jenna Bush Hager to tears.

Former First Ladies Barbara and Laura Bush called in to the show and made Jenna’s send off even more special.

“We’re calling in just to give her lots of love, and tell her we can’t wait to see that new baby,” Laura Bush said over the phone.

“I can’t handle this,” a very teary Jenna Bush Hager said.

Savannah Guthrie made a comment while the two former first ladies were on the phone that surely came out wrong.

“One thing we know the Bush ladies know how to do is raise beautiful little girls,” she remarked.

Barbara Bush picked up on it right away, and interjected a comment laced with good naturedness.

“Wait a minute,” she said. “We’re not bad on boys!”

It was an exciting morning for Jenna Bush Hager. Her fans will no doubt be awaiting word from her Today Show cohorts on the birth of her second baby.

Jenna Bush Hager Tears Up As Mom, Laura Bush, and Grandmother, Barbara Bush, Call In To “Today”

Jenna Bush Hager got an unexpected surprise on Monday’s episode of Today.

Monday was Jenna Bush Hager’s last day on the set before she goes on maternity leave.

Jenna Bush Hager is getting ready to have her second daughter with her husband, Henry Hager. Their daughter, Mila, is 2.

Jenna Bush Hager’s co-hosts sent her off right with gifts, including diapers, books, and other gifts.

But, the best gift was a phone call from Jenna Bush Hager’s mom, Laura Bush, and her grandmother, Barbara Bush.

Laura Bush said on the phone, “We’re calling in just to give her lots of love, and tell her we can’t wait to see that new baby.”

The ladies said that everyone was anxiously awaiting the 13th, which is when Jenna Bush Hager is due.

Jenna Bush Hager was clearly emotional and teary, as lots of pregnant women are, and kept saying, “I can’t handle this!”

Barbara Bush told her granddaughter, “Good luck to you and we know you’re getting ready to go on maternity leave and so we’re thrilled to have you around.”

Savannah Guthrie chimed in “One thing we know the Bush ladies know how to do is raise beautiful little girls.”

To that, Barbara Bush replied, “Wait a minute. We’re not bad on boys!”

Clearly they’re not bad on boys. With two former presidents in the family and a possible presidential candidate, not to mention a slew of other politicians, the Bush family isn’t lacking.

What did you think of Jenna Bush Hager’s surprise phone call? Wasn’t that a sweet moment?

  • Jenna Bush Hager Expecting Baby Number Two

Jenna Bush Hager–daughter of former President George Bush and Laura Bush–is expecting her second baby. The Today correspondent is reportedly 20 weeks along.

“We’re so excited,” she confirmed to People magazine. “I’m ready to tell the world!”

Jenna Bush Hager and her husband Henry Hager are already the parents of two-year-old daughter, Mila.

Her baby bump got a kiss blown in its direction when Mila announced via video that there’s a baby in her mama’s belly.

“I appreciate life so much more as a mom. And I feel so lucky,” Jenna Bush Hager, who is 33, says. “I know how wonderful motherhood is and that makes it so much sweeter.”

So far this pregnancy has been an easy one.

“My husband even said, ‘I keep forgetting you’re pregnant,’” she jokes.

Jenna Bush Hager and her hubby shared their exciting news with George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush the day after Christmas.

    “They were thrilled!” she said.

This time around the couple believed they were having a boy–and were quite surprised when Mila was born instead. Therefore the parents have decided to learn the gender of this baby ahead of time.

“We didn’t find out with Mila and we were convinced she was a boy, to the point that we painted the nursery a pale blue. And it was a girl! We were thrilled, but shocked,” Bush Hager says. “So with the second, we decided to find out.”

Little Mila is excited about being a big sister.

“We started talking [to her] about it,” Bush Hager says. “And she’ll say, ‘Hi baby!’ to my stomach. She is very precocious. I think she’ll be a great big sister but there may be a learning curve. She definitely likes attention!”

Jenna Bush Hager is even thinking as far ahead as baby number three.

“I want a big family. We’ll see what happens,” she shares.

Congratulations are no doubt going around today for Jenna Bush Hager and hubby Henry Hager, as well as to former President George W. Bush and wife Laura. The arrival of a new baby is a joyous occasion. How wonderful the entire family has this to anticipate in the coming months.

  • Miss Beazley, Former White House Dog, Passes Away

Miss Beazley, a Scottish terrier who was the pet of former President George W. Bush, passed away Saturday after a battle with lymphoma. The former White House dog was nine.

Miss Beazley (October 28, 2004 – May 17, 2014), was adopted as a birthday present for First Lady Laura Bush, and moved into the White House as a ten-week-old puppy in 2005. Laura Bush and daughters Barbara and Jenna named the new dog after a character from Oliver Butterworth’s 1956 children’s book, The Enormous Egg.

President Bush took to Facebook and Instagram to eulogize the beloved family dog – “This weekend our beloved dog, Miss Beazley, was put to rest after a battle with lymphoma. She was a source of joy during our time in Washington and in Dallas. She was a close companion to her blood relative, Barney. And even though he received all the attention, Beazley never held a grudge against him. She was a guardian to our cats, Bob and Bernadette, who – like @laurawbush and I – will miss her.”

Barney died in 2013 at the age of 12, also from lymphoma. Barney once made headlines after infamously biting Reuters news reporter Jon Decker’s finger in 2008. Barney was also once criticized by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who feels a world leader should own large dogs, not smaller breeds such as the Scottish Terrier.

Barney and Miss Beazley are both honored with a bronze sculpture featured in the George W. Bush Library.

White House pets have always been around. George Washington’s menagerie included American Staghounds named Sweetlips, Scentwell and Vulcan, Black and Tan Coonhounds called Drunkard, Taster, Tipler and Tipsy, a donkey named Royal Gift, a horse named Nelson and an unnamed parrot said to have been owned by First Lady Martha Washington.

  • Miss Beazley, George W. Bush Family Dog, Has Died

Miss Beazley, one of the former ‘First Dogs’ during President George W. Bush’s administration, has died of lymphoma. She was a Scottish terrier and often sat in the shadow of the Bush’s first First Dog, Barney. Barney was known for once biting a member of the White House press corps. Barney passed away in 2013, also from lymphoma.

Miss Beazley was much friendlier than Barney and it seems she never made any enemies. President Bush alluded to this fact when he posted to Facebook announcing the beloved family pet’s passing.

He first announced the passing in an official statement to the media on Saturday.

“This weekend our beloved dog, Miss Beazley, was put to rest,” he said.

Former President George W. Bush even mentioned how much his and wife Laura Bush’s cats loved Miss Beazley.

“She was a guardian to our cats, Bob and Bernadette, who – like Laura and I – will miss her,” he wrote.

It can be devastating when pets die. The Bush family is no doubt mourning the passing of Miss Beazley the way many people mourn beloved family members. Pets are cherished parts of many households and their deaths can leave huge voids that can’t simply be filled by adopting or buying a new pet. Their unique personalities go with them when they die and cannot ever be replaced.

Condolences are no doubt going out to George W. and Laura Bush and their family from around the world for the passing of Miss Beazley. They loved their little dog for ten years and are certainly feeling her void. The huge hole in their hearts will eventually close, but never completely. It will one day be mostly filled, however, with loving memories of a very important part of their family.

  • Laura Bush: Gay Marriage Ad Must Drop Her Image

Earlier this week, the Respect for Marriage coalition, a pro-gay-marriage partnership between dozens of organizations (such as the AFL-CIO and the ACLU) committed to ending the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), released a short ad titled “Leadership.” The ad featured heavy american symbolism, such as the multiple U.S. flags and a family picnic. The ad also featured quotes that seem to support gay marriage from political figures such as former U.S. General Colin Powell, former Vice President Dick Cheney, President Obama, and former First Lady Laura Bush.

Though all of the clips shown in the ad are from public appearances, it seems that not everyone is happy having their words used to promote marriage equality.

Laura Bush has requested that the organization remove her image and words from the ad. The Dallas Morning News has quoted a Bush family spokesperson as saying that Bush “did not approve of her inclusion in this advertisement.”

The coalition has responded quickly to Bush’s request, and issued a statement to Politico stating their disappointment that she did not want her words in the ad. The organization has instead released a new ad that depicts a former Marine Corporal and his wife speaking about their support for gay marriage, and how their thoughts were shaped by learning the Marine’s brother is gay.
