  • Forza 5 Launch Trailer Burns Rubber With Shiny Cars

One thing is certain about the vehicles in the upcoming, Xbox One launch day title, Forza 5: the developers did not forget to wax, buff, and simonize each member of their impressive fleet. The vehicular fleet in the trailer absolutely shine, as Microsoft is eager to show off the power of their new console. Unlike other, more controversial 720p offerings, the developers are also promising these shiny pieces of machinery will be available in glorious 1080p, along with 60 frames per second. In fact, the video’s description invites viewers to check out the Xbox One tour bus that’s been making stops across the nation just to see what all the 1080p/60 FPS fuss is about.

Or you could wait until the in-store demo models are put out.

By Turn 10 Studios’ count, that’s 200 cars for players to hunt down and add to their collection. Your vehicular hunting begins on November 22, which makes one wonder why this particular preview is called a “launch trailer,” but I digress.

  • Payday 2 Release Comes With An Impressive Launch Trailer

Overkill Games’ co-op first-person shooter opus is in stores now (digital and tangible), and to celebrate the occasion, the release of Payday 2 also features an impressive, cinematic-style trailer that gives players an idea of what’s in store for them. Granted, the game won’t be presented in such fashion, but you get the gist. While it may not be enjoying Dota 2-like numbers regarding players, a quick at the Payday 2’s Steam Hub page reveals over 50,000 players are currently enjoying the new release.

For comparison’s sake, there are currently over 250,000 people playing Dota 2. Meanwhile, there are only 10,000-plus people playing Black Ops 2. Clearly, gamers are excited about the new Payday. For those who are wondering what they can look forward to as they continue to take down scores of various shapes and sizes, the developers reveal they have a year’s worth of Payday 2 DLC on tap, including the introduction of a female character:

“There’s like a year of DLC planned… one of the first things I have on my list, is to make sure we get a female character. I’m hoping – I don’t know if we’ll get it as our first DLC, because we’d have to redo all the animations so it doesn’t look like a dude walking around with a female body. But I’d like to do that… [Overkill’s David Goldfarb] added, “Believe me, I have said this and we’ve talked about it, so I think it will happen, it’s just a question of when on the timeline.”

Payday 2 is available now on multiple platforms (PC, PS3, Xbox 360), and unlike many new releases, it only costs $29.99 for the Steam copy, and $39.99 for the physical console release.

  • Definitive, 10-Minute Far Cry 3 Trailer Released

In case you’ve missed the more than one dozen trailers Ubisoft has released covering every different aspect of Far Cry 3, the publisher is making sure gamers know just how good it believes the sandbox first person shooter is.

Today, another Far Cry 3 trailer hit the web. Nothing new, except this trailer is over 10 minutes long and covers everything revealed in the previous trailers. The YouTube description of the video even contains and index breaking down the different topics. The chapter headings include Vacation in Paradise, The North Island Factions, The South Island Factions, Vast Island Playground, Guns & Weapons, Outposts & Towers, Animals & Hunting, Crafting & Skills, Extreme Travel, Mini-Games, Competitive Multiplayer, Co-Op Campaign, and Welcome to the Rook Islands.

The video is also peppered with blurbs from some of the glowing reviews the game has already received. If, after viewing this trailer, gamers still can’t decide whether or not Far Cry 3 is the type of game they are interested in, it won’t be for lack of Ubisoft marketing efforts.

  • Mass Effect 3 Omega DLC Out Tomorrow, Launch Trailer Released

The next single-player DLC pack for Mass Effect 3 launches tomorrow (Wednesday on the PlayStation 3), and EA has released a story-heavy launch trailer to mark the occasion.

In Mass Effect 3: Omega, the notorious criminal haven has been taken over by Cerberus and Commander Shepard will have to join up with Omega’s former leader, Aria T’Loak to take back the station. There’s also a side-plot about helping a Turian mercenary free the slaves on Omega, but mostly it looks to feature new enemies (including a new Reaper) in four action-heavy missions.

The new DLC will also, in a way, be the first glimpse at the future of the Mass Effect series. That’s because Omega was developed by Bioware Montreal, the developer that recently announced it is working on a brand new Mass Effect game. The new game will be “exploring new directions, both on the gameplay and story fronts.” In the meantime, the new DLC will provide more of the classic Mass Effect gameplay fans of the series crave.

  • ZombiU Launch Trailer Shows What the Wii U Can Do

It’s ok to still be skeptical of Nintendo’s Wii U. Two screens haven’t necessarily improved most handheld Nintendo games, though the occasional breakthrough title managed to do something creative with the concept. The launch titles for the Wii U have similarly demonstrated that developers are trying nearly everything they can think of to make the second screen Wii U Gamepad fun to use.

The best example, perhaps, of integrating the Gamepad with traditional gameplay comes from a title that seemed unlikely to launch with a Nintendo console. Ubisoft’s ZombiU shows how the zombie apocalypse might be better with an augmented reality tablet at one’s disposal.

The game’s launch trailer focuses on demonstrating all the uses to which players can put the second screen. For starters, the pad will be able to show the area players find themselves in 360 degrees without ever moving the image on the TV screen. It also functions as a scope for sniping, a touch-based inventory system, and a method for interacting with objects encountered in the game. The multiplayer trailer released earlier this week also shows that the pad will be used in at least one multiplayer mode to harassingly spawn zombies while a different player fights them off.

Oh, and the trailer steals the “rules” conceit from the movie Zombieland, so it’s pretty light-hearted compared to previous ZombiU videos.

  • Hitman: Absolution Launch Trailer Drops the Bass, Of Course

After a dozen trailers covering everything from the weapons to the silly costumes of the game, Square Enix has finally released its final statement on what Hitman: Absolution is trying to be.

The launch trailer for the game focuses on the story behind Agent 47’s actions, but manages to pack in the sexy nuns, strippers, and some ultra-violence, including a nifty katana-through-the-mouth kill. Oh, and a dubstep soundtrack, of course. That’s required for game trailers now. Over the top of all of this, short segments of good reviews of the game are shown, and early reviews look to put Absolution in the company of other well-reviewed Hitman titles such as Hitman 2: Silent Assassin.

The story of Hitman: Absolution seems simple enough. Agent 47 saves a little girl against the wishes of the International Contract Agency (ICA). The ICA, in turn, sends its other best assassins to eliminate him. Because they can’t abide a single act of mercy from the world’s greatest assassin. There’s sure to be intrigue and mystery, though, as the mythology of the Hitman series is actually a lot deeper than its mission structure might suggest.

  • LEGO Lord of the Rings Launch Day and Trailer Arrive

Military shooter fans will certainly make this week in gaming their own. Call of Duty: Black Ops II will certainly sell millions of copies and cause plenty of lost work, but those gamers who don’t go in for shooting their fellow gamers in the face with guns also have a different opportunity today. The opportunity to once again embark on one of the most enjoyable and OCD-inducing experiences to be had in games. A new LEGO video game is out.

Today, gamers in North America get the chance to set of on Frodo’s great adventure with LEGO Lord of the Rings. The game is now out for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. European gamers can look forward to beginning their journey across Middle Earth on November 23. A demo for the PC version of the game is now available on the LEGO website, featuring the Battle of the Hornburg (also known as the Battle of Helm’s Deep).

LEGO Lord of the Rings features the same drop-in, drop-out multiplayer gameplay that is seen in other LEGO titles. The game will also feature voice acting for all of the characters, something that the LEGO games began doing with LEGO Batman 2. The voice acting does cause the games to lose a bit of the charm in seeing characters mime historic movie moments, but seeing Gandalf rebuke the Balrog in the launch trailer below certainly holds a charm of its own.

  • Assassin’s Creed III Launch Trailer Released

Ubisoft has bombarded the gaming world with so many trailers and behind-the-scenes looks at Assassin’s Creed III that it sometimes feels as if the game has been out for months. It hasn’t, though, and tomorrow’s launch will reveal whether the game lives up to all its hype.

Today, Ubisoft released what should be the final trailer for Assassin’s Creed III. The trailer shows a little of Connor’s troubled early life, as well as the many ways he has to kill Redcoats. It also emphasizes the events and famous figures, such as the Boston Massacre and George Washington, that Connor will be seeing throughout his journey.

For those not in the know, Assassin’s Creed III features a Native American protagonist, Connor, who is secretly behind many of the major historical moments of the American Revolution. As a part of the Brotherhood, he assassinates his targets using tomahawks, rope dart, bow, guns, battle axes, and, of course, the hidden blades.

  • Halo 4 Launch Trailer Shows Master Chief’s Past

Last week it was announced that the Halo 4 launch trailer would debut during Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on October 18. Today, the trailer has been released onto Halo Waypoint and has spread to all parts of the internet.

The trailer, titled Scanned, was produced by David Fincher and directed by Tim Miller, who has worked on the visual effects for projects such as X-Men, X-2, and Where the Wild Things Are. It’s nearly two and a half minutes long, and cuts back-and-forth between previews of the events in Halo 4 and short vignettes from Master Chief’s past, back when he was just John.

The flashbacks are live-action, which has become a staple of Halo trailers. Through the eyes of the Chief we see an idyllic childhood cut short and the brutal creation of the first spartans.

The November 6 release of Halo 4 is now less than 3 weeks away. In the meantime, be sure to watch the live-action Halo web series Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, which tells a story of UNSC academy cadets just before the war with the Covenant, and leads into the beginning of Halo 4.

  • Borderlands 2’s Pirate-Themed DLC Launches Today

Today marks the launch of the first downloadable content (DLC) for Borderlands 2. The DLC, titled Captain Scarlett and her Pirate’s Booty, is filled with pirate-themed madness but a distinct lack of water.

As is customary for a Borderlands game, this DLC looks to be filled with the series’ trademark ribald humor. It also features new characters, new enemies (mostly pirate-themed, such as the “grogmaster”), new challenges, a new vehicle (the sandskiff, which can fire harpoons), and, of course, new guns. Lots and lots of new guns.

The DLC is 800 Microsoft Points through Xbox LIVE or $10 via the PlayStation network or PC. Gearbox is also still offering its Borderlands 2 Season Pass, which lets players get all four of the planned DLC campaign add-ons for $30 or 2400 Microsoft Points. Though I would only recommend the pass to those who know they will be playing Borderlands 2 well into next year, Gearbox’s offer is a steal compared to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2‘s $50 season pass.

Gearbox released a launch trailer today to coincide with the DLC’s release. It gives an overview of who Captain Scarlett is, what players will be doing, and what sort of action players can expect.

  • Dishonored Launch Trailer Highlights Outstanding Reviews

Dishonored, the dystopian, steampunkish magical-assassin game was released today, and already comparisons to the Thief and Deus Ex series’, as well as “game of the year” talk are being thrown around earnest.

To accompany the game’s launch, Bethesda has released one final trailer for the game, highlighting quotes from some of the outstanding reviews the game has been getting. It also shows many of the powers players can acquire during their playthrough and just how those powers can unleash destruction on unsuspecting guards and enemies.

What the trailer doesn’t show very well is that the game itself is very much stealth-based. Sure, players can rampage through the game, sliding their dagger into necks and calling on swarms of rats to devour guards, but the levels are designed for a more subtle, exploratory approach. For a look at how each of these styles of play will differ, check out the interactive trailer released by Bethesda last week, or the E3 walkthroughs that highlight both play styles.

  • Forza Horizon Launch Trailer Revealed

Today Microsoft and Playground Games released a launch trailer for the upcoming Forza Horizon. Though this “launch” trailer seems a bit premature (the game will launch on October 23 in the U.S. and on October 26 in the U.K.), fans of the Forza series will enjoy the pretty landscapes and sexy cars.

The new trailer, seen below, also serves as the reveal for the release date of the demo for Forza Horizon, which will be available on Xbox LIVE on October 9th. The demo will feature the roads of Colorado and several different cars. Players will also get to experience a street race over a representation of Finley Dam. After completing several of the events, players will be able to compete against each other to set faster times. A section of the game map will also be available, giving players a taste of what is to come in the full game.

Xbox LIVE members who play the demo and then purchase the game will receive a custom 2013 SRT Viper GTS, which Microsoft states was designed to highlight the “gone-gold” status of Forza Horizon.

  • Borderlands 2 Launch Trailer Released on the Eve of Launch

The trailers for Borderlands 2 have so far been fantastic. Specifically, the launch date announcement trailer was fun for those who enjoy dubstep, and the later “Wimoweh” trailer calmed things down for those who enjoy the classics.

Today, on the eve of the game’s launch, 2K and Gearbox released the launch trailer for Borderlands 2. While it doesn’t have the flash and creativity of the previous trailers, it does set the stage for what players can expect to find themselves up against.

It appears that the vault hunters will racing Handsome Jack to a special vault that contains an unnamed horror. A horror that could end all life on Pandora. Save the planet, yada, yada…

Anyway, while the story is sure to be a nice touch, there are “bazillions” of guns to collect, starting in less than 24 hours. Check out the last trailer before players get their hands on the title itself:

  • The Max Payne 3 Launch Trailer Is Now Live

With the third installment of the Max Payne video game series getting ready to drop next Tuesday–5/15/2012–it’s time for the marketing push to go into overdrive, and what better way to do that than introduce the launch trailer five days before the game hits the stores? For those gamers who may not know where Max Payne 3 will take them, Rockstar Games has a definitive description:

For Max Payne, the tragedies that took his loved ones years ago are wounds that refuse to heal. No longer a cop, close to washed up and addicted to pain killers, Max takes a job in São Paulo, Brazil, protecting the family of wealthy real estate mogul Rodrigo Branco, in an effort to finally escape his troubled past. But as events spiral out of his control, Max Payne finds himself alone on the streets of an unfamiliar city, desperately searching for the truth and fighting for a way out.

With that in mind, get ready for bullet-time slow motion action as Max tries to save what’s left of his pain pill-addled existence. As for the trailer, while looking like a number of cutscenes pieced together, Rockstar Games promises the trailer was made completely from in-game footage, something the makers of Dead Island could learn a lot from (yes, the reverse trailer was awesome but it was completely non-representative of the game’s contents).

Notice, however, Rockstar says ‘In-game footage” and not “gameplay,” which is another good indicator of what people will see:

Even though there isn’t much in the way of gameplay, the trailer still manages to draw people in, something Twitter indicates quite nicely:

  • Assassin’s Creed 3 Gets Its Launch Trailer

Well, we’ve been hit with content surrounding the upcoming Assassin’s Creed 3 box art and some “leaked” screenshots, which look like they were taken directly from the undoubtedly multiple cutscenes that will likely be appearing the AC sequel.

And now, we have the launch trailer.

Assassin’s Creed 3 isn’t due to hit the shelves until Halloween (10/31/2012), which is just enough time to work yourself into an absolute frenzy waiting for the third installment. Considering AC 3’s apparent subject matter and setting–the Colonial United States during the Revolutionary War–the anticipation for Ubisoft’s next AC has already taken off. It’s hard to deny the appeal of tracking Red Coats to dish out brutal, quiet death. It’s kind of like Reese’s Cups–two great tastes that taste great together, especially for those of us inhabiting the world of video games.’

It should be noted that much like the screenshots, the trailer was taken almost directly from the game’s cutscenes. In fact, it wouldn’t be a bit surprising to find out the upcoming footage is from the beginning of the game. See for yourself:
