  • Catherine Zeta-Jones & Michael Douglas Calling Off Divorce?

In late August, representatives for Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas announced that the couple would be separating. For many couples, separation is the first stop on the road to divorce, but Douglas is hopeful they won’t be signing any legal papers anytime soon.

On Monday’s episode of “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” Douglas was promoting his upcoming film Last Vegas, but found himself talking about his hopes for a reconciliation with Zeta-Jones. Said Douglas, “I’ve been away for a while, but everything should hopefully be on the up-and-up. Sometimes people take a little bit of a break, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that’s the end. So I’m very hopeful.”

This isn’t the first time Douglas has made references to Zeta-Jones that would lead many to think getting back together is an option for the couple. While in Europe in September to promote the HBO film, Behind the Candelabra, Douglas was questioned by reporters about his “crisis at home.” The iconic actor responded, “I have a crisis at home? No, I think the press has a crisis. We are fine. My wife and I are fine.”

Hope was on the horizon again in late September when Douglas referred to Zeta-Jones as his “wife” in his Emmy acceptance speech. Upon winning the award for lead actor in a miniseries or movie for portraying Liberace in Behind the Candelabra, Douglas started his speech off with some humor, and then got a bit serious and said, “…I want to thank my wife Catherine for her support…”

Even after the awards show, Douglas continued to tell everyone his life with Zeta-Jones was on the “up and up.” He told Entertainment Tonight’s Nancy O’Dell, “Everybody is fine. Nothing really more to say. We were just taking a little break. We’re talking. I think everything will be fine and I’m very hopeful.”

If the two truly love each other, here’s hoping they can work everything out.

  • Mary Steenburgen Signs Record Deal with Universal

Its never too late to chase your dreams, and actress Mary Steenburgen is a prime example of that notion. She has an Academy Award, now she’s going for a Grammy. The 60-year-old actress is known for her long-standing career in the film industry for movies like “Back to the Future III,” “Philadelphia” and “The Help.” But, recently, she inked a songwriting deal with Universal Music.

Steenburgen accredits her musical awakening to an epiphany she experienced after undergoing a minor surgery. According to CBS News, Steenburgen describes her song-writing as a ‘new emerging ability she can’t even explain.’ She said after her surgery, “music started right after that.” Since then, she’s written more than 40 songs. Her husband, actor Ted Danson, also fueled her musical desire when he bought her an accordion as a Valentine’s Day gift earlier this year.

Although Steenburgen is moving into the music industry, film is still a dominant force in her career. Her latest film, “Last Vegas” is actually headed for theaters Nov. 1. In addition to Steenburgen, the film is flooded with other veteran actors, including Robert de Niro, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Kline, and Michael Douglas. “Last Vegas” centers around four men in their mid-sixties. They head to Vegas for a bachelor party to celebrate the upcoming nuptials of their last single buddy. The comedy chronicles all of the events of their Vegas extravaganza.

In addition to “Last Vegas,” Steenburgen has other films headed to theaters. But, she’s won’t just be on screen this time. She’s working behind the scenes putting those writing skills to work, as well. She also serves in the capacity of co-writer and director for films, Mahesh Pailoor’s “Brahmin Bulls” and “Song One” which stars Anne Hathaway. “Brahmin Bulls” is scheduled to be released closer toward the end of 2013, while “Song One” is currently in post-production status, slated for a 2014 release.

  • Mary Steenburgen is giving Music a Try

The lovely, award-winning actress, Mary Steenburgen, has gained major success in the film industry. Now, she is trying something new…the music industry.

After undergoing a minor surgery and receiving a general anesthetic, she developed an unexplainable love for music. “The music started right after that,” she said. She’s now written and/or co-written more than 40 songs, and Universal Music has recently signed her as a new songwriter!

Steenburgen has a new movie set to debut called “Last Vegas”. In the film, she is co-starring alongside an all star, Oscar-winning cast that includes, Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline. “There’s something very delicious — a very kind of wise and beautiful dance that’s done when you work with people at this point in your life that are that accomplished,” she said. Her character has a scene where she sings a song that is all Steenburgen’s, which is very exciting for her! “At one point I kind of looked in the mirror and said, you know, you’re a mom, you’re a wife, people count on you, you can’t go off the deep end into this kind of crazy, musical swirl,” she said.

Although she has played in many movies and even won an Oscar award for her acting, she still admits that she has serious stage fright issues that she has been seeking professional help for. “I love being in a room of 8-10 people,” she said. “Once it starts to get much bigger than that, I’ve always gotten very frightened. I’ve never managed to — just telling you about it, I have sweaty palms. First time I’ve ever talked about it, actually.”
