  • Nancy Reagan: As Former First Lady Laid To Rest, Friends Recall Fond Memories

Nancy Reagan: As Former First Lady Laid To Rest, Friends Recall Fond Memories

Nancy Reagan was laid to rest beside her beloved husband, former president Ronald Reagan, on Friday after a beautiful and touching ceremony.

Honored guests at Nancy Reagan’s funeral, like Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Rosalynn Carter, former president George W. Bush and Laura Bush, were treated to sweet eulogies from the Reagans’ children.

Those stories revolved, for the most part, around Nancy Reagan and her love story with the president.

However, one of Nancy Reagan’s surprising closest friends, Larry King, revealed a different side of her in a recent interview.

He said, “I was this Jewish kid from Brooklyn, she was this lady from Queens so there was a lot of New York in both of us.”

King shared a funny story that happened when he went to lunch with Ronald and Nancy Reagan one day.

He said, “We had a couple of interesting social events. I went with the former president and first lady to the Bel-Air Hotel to have lunch. When we got there, there was a wedding in progress.”

He continued, “As we were walking in, they were putting the wedding together. What got really interesting was, the president walked the bride down the aisle. I walked down with the father and Nancy was like the flower lady. It was really funny. Then we had lunch. I’m sure that will be a memory those people will never forget.”

No doubt. That was a wedding opportunity well-grabbed!

Larry King also revealed Nancy Reagan’s love for gossip of all kinds.

He said, “She wanted to know all the dirt about who’s with who and what’s with them, I didn’t know all this ‘in’ stuff but my wife did so they talked a lot. Nancy loved to hear all the latest, dish the dirt.”

What a fun peek at Nancy Reagan’s personality. What do you think about Nancy Reagan and her love for gossip?

  • Meghan McCain Hates Karl Rove, Blasts Republican Leadership

Meghan McCain was interviewed on Ora.TV’s PoliticKING with Larry King on Thursday, and said many not nice things about Karl Rove. Although the interview covered a lot of abrasive issues, only a few soundbites have been picked up and sorted through by the media. Here are the ones that are making headlines, at least according to Politico:

“I hate Karl Rove and I think he still needs to apologize to my family, which he has not done, for things that happened in 2000. I think there was an era where Karl Rove was relevant and I don’t know why people still give him attention.”

On Rove’s comments about Hilary Clinton: “I think what we saw with Karl Rove talking about her health, though, is sort of just the beginning. Just the tip of the iceberg of what’s going to happen with the attacks on her.”

And on her father, John McCain, and his chances of becoming president: “I think my father could have had Jesus Christ as his running mate and it wouldn’t have mattered in ’07.”

McCain is not shy about voicing her views on Republican leadership. You can watch the whole interview here:

Back in 2000, Rove made his bad reputation when he was linked to a campaign during the Republican primary that spread rumors that John McCain fathered an illegitimate black child. Rove denied the link.

“This is the kind of thing the media love, these kind of allegations,” Rove said according to Politico. “But for people in practical politics, I’ve got to tell you, I was seized with fear when this rumor began to circulate through South Carolina. It was sent out by a professor at Bob Jones University.”

  • Larry King New Dean of Friars Club

Larry King New Dean of Friars Club

Larry King was honored at a Friars Club dinner and roast just a couple of years back, but this week the retired host of Larry King Live was named as the club’s dean. The Friars Club is well known for its raunchy roasts of numerous celebrities throughout the years. King will replace outgoing dean Freddie Roman. He will serve as dean of the club for the next few years.

So what’s involved when one is the dean of the Friars Club? Larry King will soon find himself as just one of the rulers of the hilarious–and often raunchy–roasts put on by the club. Having received a Friars Club Award back in November of 2012, King will now assist with not only the roasts, but will oversee dinners and other events put on by and for the centuries old organization.

The Friars Club is a private club formed back in 1904 for the sole purpose of hosting its often risque celebrity roasts. Most of its members are comedians or other types of celebrities.

On Tuesday of this week, the Friars Club sent out a tweet hinting at exciting things to come.

Another tweet sent out by the Friars Club on Wednesday announced that they had named Larry King as their dean.

87-year-old comedian Jerry Lewis serves as “abbott” of the Friars Club, so it’s plain to see that Larry King is in good company in his new role within the organization. Jack Benny was once a member.

“I’ve been a Friar for many years and at one time served as Abbot of the Friars of Beverly Hills. I am honored to be asked to be Dean of the Friars,” King said in a statement. “I grew up in Brooklyn, so this is like coming home. It’s a great group with an important foundation that serves in many areas. So now — I’m Dean!”

It must be quite an honor for Larry King to be acknowledged by this group, comprised of many comedians. Surely someone found some humor in what the TV host did during his 25 years hosting Larry King Live.

  • Rumsfeld: Gay Marriage Could Lead To Polygamy

Donald Rumsfeld, former Secretary of Defense, recently spoke on gay marriage and the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell during a recent interview with Larry King.

On the issue of gay marriage, Rumsfeld said that he doesn’t exactly know where he is in the debate. He does wonder what would come next if gay marriage were to be legalized. He specifically says, “two people? three people?” as if he’s wondering if polygamists will be the next group demanding the state recognize their marriages.

King then reminds Rumsfeld that he was a proponent of civil rights in the 60s. He responds to King by saying that he doesn’t necessarily view gay marriage as part of a larger civil rights agenda.

It should be noted that he doesn’t have any animosity towards homosexuals. In a previous question on the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, he says that its repeal was only a matter of time. He points out that homosexuals have served in the military for decades, and that they served their country well.

That being said, he thinks that the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell will be tougher in certain parts of the military. He predicts that it will be easier to implement openly gay service men and women in the Air Force and Navy, but cautions that implementation among ground forces may be a little trickier. In other words, he worries that unit cohesion, or the ability of a troop to work together as a whole, may be impacted negatively if soldiers respond negatively to openly gay squad mates.

  • Larry King and Richest Man In the World Go Online Together?

    Carlos Saks is filthy rich.

    He’s 71 years old.

He’s #23 on Forbes list of powerful people.

He’s #1 on their Billionaires list.

He has a fortune of $74 Billion.

His wealth is roughly 5% of Mexico’s annual economic output,

And, if the rumor mill is correct, he’s about to hook up with Larry King for an online venture.

Larry King, whose CNN show “Larry King Live” ran for 25 years from 1985 to 2010. He signed off on December 16, 2010 and handed the reins to Piers Morgan.

Given the high-profile personalities attached to this project, everyone is staying mum about it. King’s attorney did say: “I can confirm that there have been discussions in which I participated.”

Larry King spent his entire career in broadcasting, so an online venture would be a departure for him. But, with the kind of name recognition he has, it’s easy to see why a moneybags like Carlos Saks would court him.
