  • Most Viewed YouTube Videos Of All Time

It’s been a little over a year since we last looked at the “Top 10 Most Viewed YouTube Videos of All Time” so we thought it would be interesting to see what that list looked like in mid-2011.

When we first looked at the list, back in May of 2010, we saw 4 videos that weren’t music videos: Charlie bit my finger, Evolution of Dance, Hahaha (the laughing baby), and Jeff Dunham – Achmed the Dead Terrorist. Flash forward to today… and every video in the top 10 are music videos. It’ll be interesting going forward to see if a user created video could ever crack the top 10… especially when you’re competing against the likes of Just Bieber, the king of YouTube.

Once again, without further adieu here are the Top 10 YouTube Videos of all time… as of July 2011.

1.) Justin Bieber – Baby ft. Ludacris – 588,935,560 views

    2.) Lady Gaga – Bad Romance – 398,733,391 views

3.) Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) – 368,705,891 views

4.) Eminem – Love The Way You Lie ft. Rihanna – 359,944,029 views

  • Lady Gaga Starts Amen Fashion, A New Tumblr Blog

It appears as though Lady Gaga has grown tired of the microblogging world of Twitter and decided to take her influence to a slightly different format – Tumblr.

Her new Tumblr blog, Amen Fashion, has just popped up and contains only a handful of posts. At initial glance it looks like a fashion blog mixed with candid photos and other eccentricities from Mother Monster. The blog is photo-heavy so far but does contain some text, such as “I’ve learned love it like a brick you can build a house of sink a dead body.”

Tumblr is just the next step in the internet domination that Lady Gaga seems to have planned. She is not only a force on Twitter, but the force. Her 11.2 million plus followers make her the most popular person on the entire service. She is also approaching 40 million likes on Facebook. When Gaga’s new album “Born This Way” was announced as a 99 cent download on Amazon, she crashed their servers.

How popular is her Tumblr blog already? In its infant stages, her posts have thousands of interactions whether they be likes or reblogs. Her most recent post has 7,000.

And I’m sure Lady Gaga knows the potential to exert influence on the Tumblr world. The blog hosting site is doing quite well with over 7 billion posts spread out over 22 million blogs. President John Maloney just released some stats on his blog that shows Tumblr with 8.4 billion page views a month.

Zap2It reports a little bit of drama involving Gaga’s new blog. Apparently she wanted the name “Amen Fashion” but it was already in use. They say that the fan in question with the Amen Fashion blog received this email from Tumblr –

Since Amen Fashion comes from the title of a Lady Gaga song, since you have never posted to amenfashion.tumblr.com, and since it is not the primary blog on your Tumblr account, we feel giving amenfashion.tumblr.com to Atom Management and Lady Gaga is the reasonable thing to do here. As you seem to be a massive Gaga fan yourself, we hope you see things the same way.

He apparently changed his user name to amenfashion1, but that wasn’t far enough away from Amen Fashion so he had to change it again.

  • Weird Al Channels Lady Gaga in Perform This Way

The video that was almost never released has hit the interwebs. In Weird Al Yankovic’s latest parody, he transforms Lady Gaga’s personal expression anthem “Born This Way” into a funny and highly creepy send-up of the absurdities of her fame.

A few months ago, Weird Al was forced to put his parody single “Peform This Way” on YouTube in an unofficial capacity due to disputes between his camp and Lady Gaga’s camp over the rights to the song. Weird Al’s camp claimed that Gaga refused to allow him to parody her song. When audio hit YouTube with the disclaimer that it would not be appearing on his new album Alpocalypse, the internet protested. This outcry led to the realization that the dispute between Al and Gaga was never a dispute to begin with.

Here’s what Weird Al had to say on his blog

After putting my Lady Gaga parody on YouTube this morning – and announcing that it wouldn’t be on my next album because Gaga didn’t approve it – there was a huge outpouring of disappointment from the Internet.

Apparently the fact that she didn’t approve it was news to Lady Gaga herself!

Gaga’s manager has now admitted that he never forwarded my parody to Gaga – she had no idea at all. Even though we assumed that Gaga herself was the one making the decision (because, well, that’s what we were TOLD), he apparently made the decision completely on his own.

    He’s sorry.

    And Gaga loves the song.

And now, about two months later we are treated with the video for “Perform This Way.” In the video, Weird Al’s face is added to a woman’s body dressed in a wide variety of ridiculous costumes. The best part of the video in my opinion is the pesky Madonna character who keeps showing up and getting in “Gaga’s” way. Gaga has previously called the comparison between “Born This Way” and Madonna’s hit “Express Yourself” “retarded.”

    Check it out –

In an interview with Wired, Weird Al said that “Twitter saved his album.”

I remember very clearly the morning that I uploaded the song thinking that my album was postponed indefinitely and that this song that I’d been working on for weeks and weeks was never going to see a proper release. And within a few hours everything had turned around and my fans had my back and Lady Gaga heard the song and all the sudden I had permission.

It was just an amazing turn of events. By the end of the day I had a release date for the album. The byproduct was that people found I was doing the song and doing an album. I never court controversy, I don’t like drama, but that’s just the way it happened.

It’s amazing. Twitter saved my album. In the old days that wouldn’t have happened. I’m just thankful that people cared enough to help me out.

Oh, the power of the interwebs.

I’m just glad the whole thing was sorted out. With the Roger Ebert / Bam Margera feud in full swing, I don’t know if we could have taken a Weird Al / Lady Gaga battle.

  • Amazon Tries Lady Gaga Release Again

When Lady Gaga’s newest album Born This Way was released, Amazon offered the release in digital format for $0.99. Naturally, their web infrastructure almost collapsed. The special price was done in order to demonstrate Amazon’s cloud music service, and while the initial results were disappointing — hey, there are a lot of Gaga fans out there — Amazon is try, try, trying again.

That’s right, Gaga’ new release is once again available on Amazon for 99 cents. Granted, the format is digital, but in this day and age of mobile device dominance, does that even matter? The promotion is humorously called “This Time We’re Ready,” although, the proof of that will obviously be in the way Amazon performs.

Of course, most Gaga fanatics already have the “Born This Way,” so the rush shouldn’t be as taxing as it was on May 23rd. Craig Pape, director of music for Amazon, had this to say about the re-release, er, release at the special price deal:

“Clearly customers are really excited for Lady Gaga’s new album – we saw extraordinary response to Monday’s promotion – far above what we expected – she definitely melted some servers. So we’re doing it again, and this time we’re ready. We’re pleased to offer ‘Born This Way’ – the whole album – for $0.99 today only. Along with this purchase, customers get 20 GB of free Amazon Cloud Drive storage so they can store and play their music anywhere. If you missed it the first time, don’t miss it today.”

Upon its release, “Born This Way” went directly to the top of Amazon’s top-selling MP3s list, and it hasn’t changed since. Undoubtedly, the “This Time We’re Ready” promotion will solidify Gaga’s standing as ruler of Amazon’s MP3 department. What are your thoughts on the Gaga’s newest release? Love it? Hate it? Let us know what you think.

  • Lady Gaga Hits 10 Million Twitter Followers

Lady Gaga has just set a new record. In the annals of history, she will be remembered as the first person to acquire 10,000,000 followers on Twitter. And more importantly, she beat Justin Bieber.

Ashton Kutcher was the first to reach one million, Charlie Sheen was the fastest to reach one million – but we can’t forget that Lady Gaga, over time, has steadily amassed herself a Twitter army the size of a small nation. Here is her tweet from when she broke the 10 million barrier:

http://twitpic.com/4xtnac – 10MillionMonsters! I’m speechless, we did it! Its an illness how I love you. Leaving London smiling. 1 day ago via Twitter for BlackBerry® · powered by @socialditto

So let’s look at some stats about Lady Gaga’s Twitter account:

    • She joined Twitter on March 26th, 2008
    • Since that time, she has only tweeted 739 times.  By comparison, Justin Bieber joined much later, in March of 2009 and has tweeted 9,081 times.
    • At the writing of this article, she has 10,057,874 followers but it seems to go up by a hundred every time I refresh.  Second place goes to Bieber with 9,607,412 and third place goes to Barack Obama with just over 8 million.
    • According to Twitter Counter, Lady Gaga gains 24,946 followers every day.  She gained 14, 855 yesterday.
    • Throughout all her Tweets, he most commonly used word is “monsters.”

Being the first to reach 10 million followers surely grants Gaga the title of “most popular” on Twitter.  But as far as her influence on the network goes, she’s not quite at the top of the list.  In a study commissioned by the NY Time mag and performed by Twitalyzer, it was determined that British actor Stephen Fry and Brazilian comedian Rafinha Bastos both have a higher “influence index” than Lady Gaga.

Why? Even though they have a fraction of the followers (a couple million), they are much more active tweeters, therefore have their content retweeted at a higher rate.  That isn’t to say that Gaga doesn’t hold sway over the Twitterverse – her impact score according to Twitalyzer is 72.3%, which puts her in the 99.9th percentile.  Not bad for someone only averaging about a tweet and a half a day.

So what about the next huge milestone?  Who will be the first to reach 20 million followers?  According to Twitter Counter, it will be Gaga.  They predict that she will hit the 20 million follower mark in about 399 days.  They predict Bieber will hit the mark in about 427 days.

  • Lady Gaga Goes from Google to Twitter

Lady Gaga Goes from Google to Twitter

Lady Gaga seems to be making a habit out of visiting the headquarters of Internet giants. Earlier this week, she went to Google, where she was interviewed by Marissa Mayer. Now she’s followed that up with a visit to Twitter to be interviewed by co-founder Evan Williams.

While we haven’t seen the interview yet, these tweets were posted by Willams and Lady Gaga:

Just interviewed @Ladygaga at Twitter HQ. What a trip. Lovely, smart, and articulate. 15 hours ago via Twitter for iPhone · powered by @socialditto

HERE IT IS! My live GOOGLE interview is here! Go little monsters, excited for you to watch it ♥: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNa_-1d_0tA 1 day ago via web · powered by @socialditto

Here’s Lady Gaga’s interview at Google:

And here’s a bonus tweet from Mayer:

My favorite moment of @ladygaga talk (35′ mark) – best piece of advice? If you don’t have any shadows, you aren’t standing in the light. 21 hours ago via web · powered by @socialditto

So, can we expect to see Lady Gaga at Facebook next? Yahoo? Microsoft? Apple? Facebook seems like a likely choice, based on the company’s recent history of celebrity interviews on Facebook Live. Lady Gaga does have over 31 million Facebook fans. That would seem to trump her 9 million Twitter followers.

On a side note, Evan Williams isn’t the only buzy Twitter co-founder. Rumors are going around that Jack Dorsey could be returning to the company.

  • Lady Gaga Does Google

    Lady Gaga Does Google

The current queen of pop — no, not Rebecca Black either; although, she’s clearly a princess — went to Google the other day to complete the Q&A session that began with a YouTube invitation from Lady Gaga herself.

The follow-up portion of the Gaga’s user-generated-content-based interview was conducted by Marissa Mayer, who presented Gaga with the questions submitted by her legion of fans. According to a statement from Google (via PC Mag), there were over 54,000 video submissions for the Gaga Q & A. Of course, Google and its employees were clearly more than willing to bask in glow of Gaga’s popularity, understandably treating the event more like a concert than an interview.

Google even created a logo for the event, which was shared on Twitpic; and naturally, there was a Twitter hashtag for the event — #googlegoesgaga — solidifying the just how much social media and user-generated content contributed to the Gaga interview (everything).

The event was preserved by YouTube, and the entire interview is available for Gaga fans and search engine news followers alike:

During the interview, Gaga even stuck up for the latest Internet star, the aforementioned Rebecca Black. Instead of adding to burning-hot fire of criticism, which has since turned into a trend others can’t help but follow, Gaga perhaps predictably defended Black by calling her a genius. Considering the backlash against the original backlash, it wouldn’t be the least bit surprising if the young Rebecca Black evolved from a Internet sensation into a “legitimate” recording artist who appears as an opening act on Gaga’s next tour.

As for her visit to the Google campus, Gaga was as impressed with them as they were with her, and her Twitter account reflects that very well.

  • YouTube Gets Fans Closer To Lady Gaga

As the desire for user-generated content continues to climb, we are going to see more and more of this kind of thing: Celebrities using social media services like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, allowing their fans to get closer to them, at least in a technological sense. Unfortunately, there are still legal issues if you want to get physically closer to the object of your idolatry.

In this case, we have Lady Gaga, and in order to allow her fans increased access, she’s teamed up with YouTube, allowing members to ask Gaga questions via her official YouTube page. There is, of course, an introductory video with Gaga inviting her fans to participate:

As indicated, questions are submitted on Gaga’s page, or, users can submit a video if they so choose. Fans can also vote on which question they’d like to see answered, which helps further the idea of the importance of user-generated content, especially when it comes to marketing in this technological era.

MTV has some more details about Gaga’s interview process, saying, “In addition to the video network, fans can tweet their questions using the hashtag #GoogleGoesGaga. Fans have until the end of the day Friday to submit their entries.”

The only thing missing from Gaga’s current fan engagement is the use of Facebook for the interview process. Maybe next time. Head on over to Gaga’s YouTube page, or hop on Twitter with the appropriate hash tag if you’d like to further the journey into Gaga’s mind. The first person to get a successful answer to the “Are you simply a product of marketing or are you a legitimate artist?” question, preferably with an in-depth, revealing response, wins.

  • Polaroid Talks About Lady Gaga’s Role with the Company

Earlier this month, Polaroid announced a multi-year strategic partnership with Lada Gaga, which will see the pop superstar serving as the company’s creative director for a specialty line of Polaroid Imaging products. This was highlighted at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, which WebPronews attended.

While we were there, we had the opportunity to speak with Polaroid Chief Marketing Officer John Pollock, who talked about some of Lady Gaga’s duties with the company. "She’ll be in charge of directing us creatively, and she’ll also be in charge of working with us on a co-branded line, a Polaroid-branded sub-brand with a lady Gaga twist to it," he said.

"I am so proud to announce my new partnership with Polaroid as the creative director and inventor of specialty projects", said Lady Gaga said upon the original announcement. "The Haus of Gaga has been developing prototypes in the vein of fashion/technology/photography innovation–blending the iconic history of Polaroid and instant film with the digital era–and we are excited to collaborate on these ventures with the Polaroid brand."

"Lifestyle, music, art, fashion: I am so excited to extend myself behind the scenes as a designer, and to as my father puts it–finally, have a real job," she added.

The products that will come from Lady Gaga’s partnership with Polaroid are expected to be available in late 2010. On a related note, Polaroid also gave WebProNews an exclusive look at its new photo sharing site PolaroidStudio.com.
