  • Lacey Chabert Brings Tragedy-to-Love Story to TV

Party of Five actress Lacey Chabert will star in a new Hallmark Channel movie to air Saturday.

Based on a true story, Chabert will play Gina Kell, a young widow who falls for a widower Michael Spehn in The Color of Rain.

“To me, it just says that hope and faith are just so important, and get you through things you never imagined you’d have to suffer through,” Chabert said.

The young widow, who loses her husband to cancer on Christmas Day, meets a man who also loses his wife to cancer just a few weeks after Gina’s husband dies. The grief-stricken friends, who have five children between them, begin to work through their heartbreak and come to lean on one another.

The character of Gina is based on the real-life author of the book, The Color of Rain, released in 2011.

Chabert said that she found it to be an “exciting chance” to portray someone’s real-life story and said she was moved by what Gina and Michael experienced.

The Mean Girls actress clearly had a passion for Gina and Michael’s story before playing it out on film. She shares that she was moved by the book and script, and when she saw the couple on the Today Show.

The movie premieres at 9 p.m. EST Saturday on the Hallmark Channel.

  • Lacey Chabert of “Mean Girls” To Play Widow In Hallmark’s “The Color of Rain”

Although she’s best known for her role in the movie Mean Girls, Lacey Chabert will be featured in a tearjerker brought to you by the Hallmark Channel. The made-for-TV movie is called The Color of Rain, and involves a widower, played by Warren Christie, and a widow (Chabert) who come together in a time of loss.

It’s all based on a true story.

According to TV Guide, Chabert called the role “poignant and personal”. “I wanted to make sure the family was happy with what was happening,” she said. “I spoke with Gina, the woman that I played, before we filmed and she was really supportive.”

Does Chabert putting her hand in drama pique your interest? Then check out the Hallmark Channel’s promo below.

Since the 10th Anniversary of Mean Girls last month, Chabert has been thrust into the spotlight. In an interview with the New York Times, she explained how unlike she actually was from the character she played: “I related to the part in the movie where girls are cutting themselves down, like, “My hairline is weird” — stuff people would never notice on someone else. I was never the cool kid. I wore Minnie Mouse stuff. And growing up in Hollywood, I always felt under a microscope.”

Last Christmas, Chabert managed to escape the Hollywood microscope during her own wedding. The marriage wasn’t public knowledge until the actress made the announcement over Instagram and Twitter. “I’m starting off 2014 as a Mrs! Over the holidays, my best friend & love of my life…we became husband & wife! #soblessed #love,” she tweeted. The husband’s identity was even a secret, until US Weekly revealed him to be her long time boyfriend Dave Nehdar.

Since he is still alive, it’s safe to say Chabert is once again playing a character who is different from her.

“Look, life is tough, and growing up in this business is especially tough,” she said. “I really can’t take any credit other than saying I grew up in a really protective family. Also, I want a long-lasting career, so you’re not gonna find me doing anything scandalous anytime soon.”

As Gretchen Weiners in 2004’s “Mean Girls”, Chabert portrayed the type of girl who loved to please and was eager to be accepted, even if it meant a little backstabbing was in order. In real life, Chabert says that was never a path she went down, but she understands that the movie touched a chord in so many people now that they’re still tweeting her quotes from it nearly a decade later.

“People tweet me all the time, ‘Are you still trying to make fetch happen?’” she said. “I never thought people would still be quoting Mean Girls 10 years later.”
