  • “Jessica Jones” Gets Green Light for Second Season

Jessica Jones is coming back for a second season. Netflix made the announcement earlier this month at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena.

Not much information was available at the show’s panel. Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb explained.

“We learned about the pickup when you guys learned about it, so we’re at that stage of just going ‘yay!’” he said.

Following the panel, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg offered a few tidbits of information about the second season of Jessica Jones for reporters.

“I think I just want to continue with her character. She’s a very damaged character and her damage goes beyond Kilgrave [David Tennant]. There’s a lot to mine from in her backstory and in her present day situation. I think we’ll find something,” she said.

Adding that she doesn’t know when Jessica Jones season two will start, Rosenberg says she plans to continue using ideas from the Alias series of comics by Brian Michael Bendis. That’s where Jessica Jones–the character–first appeared.

“I will always use as much as I possibly can from the comic book,” she said, noting that they’ll have to allow for some changes given the differences in the mythology between the Marvel comics and ongoing Marvel Cinematic Universe. “The MCU is very different in terms of its mythology. In the books, everyone knows superheroes are walking around, there’s a lot of things building toward Secret Wars. We’re probably not going to be able to do a totally parallel storylines. But I take every little piece I can because it’s so good.”

Did you catch the first season of Jessica Jones on Netflix yet? Are you excited to learn a second season will soon be in the works?

Jessica Jones stars Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, as well as Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker, Wil Traval as Will Simpson, Erin Moriarty as Hope Shlottman, Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth, and David Tennant as Kilgrave.

“Jessica Jones” A Huge Success, Proves Appeal Of More Adult-Themed Marvel Shows

Jessica Jones is barely a week into its big debut, and there’s no doubt that it is a massive success.

Quickly making it to many “must-see” lists, Jessica Jones is the talk of the town and for good reason.

The casting for Jessica Jones is magical and the story is irresistible in its complexity and dark tone.

Daredevil sort of paved the way for the more mature material that Marvel has to offer and proved that there was a more than eager audience ready for that kind of thing.

It’s great fun watching troubled private eye Jessica Jones face her demons and her twisted past and deal with her incredibly delusional arch enemy, Kilgrave.

Some might say that the star of Jessica Jones, Krysten Ritter, has a lot to do with the successs of the show.

Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg gushed about Krysten Ritter, who was able to tackle relative comic newbie Jessica Jones effortlessly.

When asked if the character was sort of molded around Ritter’s natural dry wit, she said, “No, because we were looking for exactly that, and Krysten Ritter, if you’ve seen her comedic work before, she’s exactly that.”

She added, “That’s why she was always very high on our list and of course when she came in very early in the process set the bar incredibly high and no one else came close. Particularly on that one count of delivering incredibly dry.”

Jessica Jones is so amazing. Have you watched it? What do you love and/or hate about it?

  • Krysten Ritter: Jessica Jones Not A Very Good Superhero

Krysten Ritter plays the role of Jessica Jones in the Netflix series of the same name. During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actress dished on the series, and shared a few things about her character that might come as a surprise.

Ritter says her character is “as developed in the show as she is in the comics.”

Krysten Ritter read all of the comics when she landed the part. She explains that Jessica Jones is a former superhero with a dark past that comes back to haunt her.

Those unfamiliar with the Marvel comic book series will be surprised to learn that Jessica Jones isn’t what most expect of a superhero.

“She represses a lot of her abilities. She kind of wants nothing to do with it, but when she has to, she will rise to the occasion. She’s super strong. She’s a bit of a brawler. She can fly, but not well … at all. So she doesn’t do that often, because she’s so bad at it. She’s just not a very good superhero. She’s a real misfit. She’s a real f—ing misfit,” Krysten Ritter explains.

The actress recently wrapped eight straight months of filming–the most she’s ever worked in this field at one time. She believes her lack of sleep during that time lent itself to her character.

“That’s part of it. Jessica Jones doesn’t sleep much either. All of it really feeds the character. She doesn’t sleep. She’s got odd hours. It works for the role,” Krysten Ritter says.

The 13-episode season of Jessica Jones is now available on Netflix. Even those without a penchant for poring over comics will find a lot to love–even if the heroine comes up short in her superhero prowess.

  • Jessica Jones Showrunner: “I Had Free Rein…”

Jessica Jones Showrunner: “I Had Free Rein…”

Jessica Jones is now available on Netflix and there are likely many a Marvel fan who can’t wait to get off work and dive in.

While fans of Jessica Jones and her noir-esque story will appreciate the dark tones and complex topics hit upon as we follow Jones in her life and struggles, they may not know all the work it took to get from idea to full show.

Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg recently spoke about how the show came together and the freedom that came with working with a more obscure character in the Marvel universe.

Rosenberg admitted that, unlike Daredevil, Jessica Jones doesn’t have a long history that has to mesh with the story. Therefore, she was pretty free to do her thing.

She said, “It may surprise you but I had free rein. Part of it’s because Jessica Jones is a lesser-known character, so there wasn’t the same kind of expectations that came with it, like Daredevil, which has a very, very long history.”

She added, “There was a lot of freedom to really explore her storytelling and they understood as much as anyone else what the original material was. It was Marvel’s first adult comic book that they’d ever put out. They went into it eyes wide open and completely embraced it, as did Netflix. … That surprised me just that Marvel honestly really just supported my vision and contributed to it, really.”

If you’ve seen the trailers for Jessica Jones, you know that the show does seem to explore some of the darker paths of life a little more freely than other Marvel shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or Agent Carter.

Jessica Jones is damaged and comes from a background of being used and abused. She is open about her struggles, her alcoholic tendencies and her freedom with her sexuality.

However, don’t expect her to use that sexuality to get what she wants. As an rising star playing a rather feminist-friendly role, Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter doesn’t use a familiar feminine noir tactic.

She said, “We never fell into the typical tropes of female P.I. shows. You’ll never see me putting on a short skirt and heels to use my ‘sexuality’ to get what I want. I don’t want to seduce someone to get what I want. I don’t want to play that.”

‘Jessica Jones’ Creator Dishes On Why Krysten Ritter Was the Perfect Choice For the Role

Netflix’ original series Jessica Jones took some time making its way to the small screen and one of the factors in its delay was finding the right actress to play the former superhero turned private investigator.

However, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg told The Hollywood Reporter that they found their Marvel comics character in Krysten Ritter.

After exploring several high-profile names while casting Jessica, Rosenberg said Ritter’s ability to capture the dark, sarcastic bite to the character convinced them that she was the perfect choice.

“Krysten Ritter, if you’ve seen her comedic work before, she’s exactly that,” said Rosenberg. “That’s why she was always very high on our list and of course when she came in very early in the process set the bar incredibly high and no one else came close. Particularly on that one count of delivering incredibly dry.”

Rosenberg said Krysten Ritter‘s comedic background served her well during casting.

“That was always going to be the toughest thing. As they say, death is easy, comedy is hard,” she noted.

As reported by The New York Post, the 13-episode drama is the second of Netflix’s five planned Marvel TV series, and also serves as a prequel of sorts to 2016’s Luke Cage, played by Mike Colter of The Good Wife.

“Jessica first spies Luke through her long-range zoom lens and after a chance meeting, sparks fly — a connection that intensifies once the two realize they both have special abilities,” notes The New York Post.

The entire first season of Jessica Jones starring Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter premieres Friday on Netflix.

Jessica Jones: Krysten Ritter Said She’ll Never Use Sexuality To Get What She Wants

Jessica Jones is one of the most highly-anticipated Marvel shows to come out in quite some time, and likely it’s because of the female lead.

Other than Agent Carter or Supergirl there just aren’t that many superhero shows with female leads like Jessica Jones, especially with the depth and complexity that this show promises.

Jessica Jones is sure to be a relatable, validating experience for women of all walks.

Show runner Melissa Rosenberg said of Jessica Jones the character, “[For Jessica] the superpowers are just a matter of fact. She doesn’t advertise them, but she doesn’t deny them. She doesn’t hide them.”

She added, “What I love about this character is she’s so unapologetically who she is. She’s unapologetic about her sexuality, about her powers, about her drinking, about just about anything. She is who she is.”

Speaking of that sexuality, while Jessica Jones remains unapologetic for it, she also won’t use it to get what she wants.

“Jessica Jones” Sneak Peeks Highlight David Tennant As Villain Kilgrave

Jessica Jones is set to debut on Netflix this coming Friday and Marvel fans all over are surely ecstatic.

A couple of sneak peeks from Jessica Jones have been released, though these do not feature Jessica Jones herself but the villain Kilgrave, played by none other than the 10th Doctor, David Tennant.

While it may be hard to think of David Tennant as a bad guy in Jessica Jones after watching him in Doctor Who, it’s not that hard to imagine after the new teasers.

Jessica Jones revolves around the title character as she tries to overcome the demons from her short-lived stint as a superhero.

In order to still be a helpful member of society, Jessica Jones opens a detective agency.

However, her past is not entirely behind her.

Jessica Jones is played by Krysten Ritter, who is known for her roles in Breaking Bad, Gilmore Girls, Gossip Girl and Veronica Mars.

According to Jessica Jones executive producer Melissa Rosenberg, Ritter is absolutely perfect for the role.

She said, “There were just a couple of very dry lines, just a couple, in a hugely dramatic scene, and they were just kind of buried in there. As they say, drama is easy, comedy is hard … and it was interesting to watch all of the dramatic actors who came in, [and] those lines just died.”

She added, “She got it. It was that balance between profound emotional drama and finding the different levels, finding just a second of levity, but keeping it grounded, not stopping for the laugh. She just throws it away, her range is impressive.”

Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones: Check Out First Full Trailer

Krysten Ritter stars as Jessica Jones in Marvel’s upcoming show to air on Netflix. Called Jessica Jones, Ritter shines as the lead character in the sure-to-be hit show.

The trailer for Jessica Jones was just released, and Krysten Ritter is–simply put–quite amazing.

In addition to Krysten Ritter, Jessica Jones also stars Doctor Who’s David Tennant as the villain Kilgrave, The Good Wife’s Mike Colter as Luke Cage (he is also getting his own series after Jessica Jones is released), Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker (known as Hellcat by comic fans), The Matrix’s Carrie-Anne Moss, Eka Darville, Erin Moriarty, and Wil Traval.

Comic fans are well aware of some of the things Kilgrave has done to Jessica Jones. It appears as though many of these things will air via Netflix. E! News calls the show “brutal and addicting at the same time.

  • Carrie-Anne Moss Joins Netflix’ Jessica Jones In Gender-Bend Role

Carrie-Anne Moss of The Matrix is joining Netflix’s Jessica Jones in what is being called a “gender-bent” roll.

During a panel discussion for the upcoming show at New York Comic Con on Saturday, Marvel’s head of television, Jeph Loeb, announced the news that the character, Jeryn Hogarth, would be undergoing a gender-bend.

Carrie-Anne Moss, who joined the cast on stage, will be playing the new twist to the character with the name Jeri Hogarth.

Originally, Jeryn Hogarth was a brilliant lawyer and business executive. Working under the pervue of Wendall Rand, who was known as the father of Danny Rand (a.k.a. the Iron Fist), Jeryn eventually became the head of Heroes for Hire, an organization that offers legal help to a slew of superheroes.

According to Entertainment Weekly, in Marvel comics lore, Jeryn Hogarth also has connections to Luke Cage.

“They’re not friends but they need each other,” Moss said of Hogarth’s relationship with Jessica Jones. “They come to each other in these scenes, and there’s a lot of back and forth and bad flirtation at times, in life. They’re funny together and can’t stand each other. It’s interesting.”

Polygon reports that it is unclear exactly what Moss’ role will be in the show, but they are assuming that she’ll be working closely with the series’ titular character as an attorney.

Krysten Ritter, who plays Jones, said the relationship between Hogarth and Jones is an interesting one, to say the least.

“It’s by far the most complex and interesting and special friendship between two women that I’ve seen in a movie or television,” Ritter said. “We’re there for each other in ways that we don’t see, but we’re never talking about a dude or an outfit. It’s a really pure bond.”

Jessica Jones will stream on Netflix beginning Nov. 20.

  • Krysten Ritter Underwent Grueling Physical Challenges for Jessica Jones Role

Krysten Ritter didn’t simply land a role and begin shooting scenes as Marvel superhero Jessica Jones in the upcoming Netflix series of the same name. Instead the actress underwent some rather grueling training.

“I had to train pretty hard-core — boxing and weight training,” Krysten Ritter told Page Six in a recent interview. “Things that I would never do. I like spinning and Pilates, but I had to wear weight-lifting gloves and pack on muscle. I got really into it.”

Defying many stereotypes in this role, Krysten Ritter is super excited to play a superhero.

“I’m never sexualized, I’m not in a slutty suit. This is a really ballsy, tough, badass character,” she says.

Set to debut via Netflix on November 20th, Jessica Jones focuses on its title character, “a retired superhero in search of personal redemption.” Along the way she’ll encounter Jeryn Hogarth (played by Carrie-Anne Moss) and fellow Marvel superhero Luke Cage, played on the show–and in his own upcoming series–by Mike Colter.

Prior to her new superhero role, Krysten Ritter starred as Jane Margolis–Jesse Pinkman’s junky girlfriend on Breaking Bad.

Kudos to Krysten Ritter for working hard–not just mentally, but physically, too–for her role as Jessica Jones. Some actors pick up their scripts and proceed to read lines. Krysten Ritter endured serious physical turmoil in her transformation from actor to superhero.

Krysten Ritter was revealed to be cast as Jessica Jones in Netflix’s upcoming Marvel series of the same name back in December. Now, we finally get to see her in action as Netflix has released a pair of new trailers.

This is the second Netflix Marvel show set in Hell’s Kitchen, following the highly successful Daredevil, which was released earlier this year.

Jessica Jones hits Netflix on November 20. Ritter can also be seen in the new Jake Hoffman drama Asthma.

If Jessica Jones garners as much praise as Daredevil, Krysten Ritter’s star should be burning very bright for the foreseeable future.

“The 13-episode drama centers on Jones as she rebuilds her personal life and career as a detective in New York City after her short-lived stint, as the superhero Jewel, ended tragically at the hands of Kilgrave–aka Purple Man (David Tennant),” Page Six reports.

  • Krysten Ritter Makes Her Netflix Debut In Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones

Krysten Ritter Makes Her Netflix Debut In Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones

Krysten Ritter has made a name for herself over the past few years with roles in AMC’s Breaking Bad and CW’s Veronica Mars. Now the actress is entering the world of online programming with Netflix’ and Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones.

Ritter will star as the lead in A.K.A. Jessica Jones in a 13 episode series that will debut on Netflix next year. The series is based on a character that showed up in Marvel’s ALIAS comic book. The story goes that our titular hero – Jessica Jones – loses her powers and turns toward a career as a detective investigating cases involving super powers. It’s the kind of story that’s definitely better suited for television and Marvel thinks that Ritter will be the perfect vehicle to bring the Jones’ story to the small screen.

“Krysten Ritter has the type of range, spanning the comic to the tragic, that makes for the stuff of the best Marvel heroes,” said Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel’s Head of Television. “As Jessica Jones, Krysten will bring one of the most beloved new characters of the past decade to life in a way we know will delight her longtime fans and introduce her to many more.”

A.K.A. Jessica Jones is just one of many Marvel TV shows that will be hitting Netflix in the coming year. The first, a series based on Daredevil, is already filming with series based on Luke Cage and Iron Fist. The four TV series will come together in a separate TV series called The Defenders that’s looking to capitalize on Marvel’s success with The Avengers.

Ritter will make her debut as Jessica Jones at some point in 2015.

  • Krysten Ritter Set To Star As Jessica Jones in Marvel’s Latest TV Series

Krysten Ritter Set To Star As Jessica Jones in Marvel’s Latest TV Series

Krysten Ritter will return to television in Marvel’s latest Netflix series, Jessica Jones. The actress who previously graced the small screen with her roles in Breaking Bad and Don’t Trust the B— will play the titular star of the show, adding to Marvel’s television slate that already features shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the upcoming Captain America spinoff, Agent Carter.

Although Marvel hasn’t made an official announcement, Deadline reports that Ritter has been tapped to play the role after the studio had auditioned fellow actresses like True Detective’s Alexandra Daddario and Warm Bodies star, Teresa Palmer.

The Jessica Jones character debuted in the Marvel MAX imprint series Alias created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos. Jessica Jones is a former superheroine who decided to take off her mask to start a private detective agency that seeks clients who are dealing with cases with superhero connections. The series follows Jones going back to the superhero world even after she denounces her old lifestyle.

Ritter reportedly did a chemistry reading with Mike Colter who is slated to portray Luke Cage, another popular Marvel superhero.

Marvel surprised fans with their decision, as Ritter is mostly known for her comedic work in film and television work. Ritter started as a model at the age of 15 after being discovered by an agent while she was hanging out at a local shopping mall. She signed with Elite Model Management and moved to New York to establish her modeling career which saw her posing for print and television ads.

In 2003, Ritter shared the screen with Julia Roberts in Mona Lisa Smile and had appeared in several Broadway plays. Her television work expanded when she appeared on the second season of Veronica Mars. She reprised her Veronica Mars role in the film which was successfully funded through the Kickstarter website.

  • Netflix May Have Its Jessica Jones And Luke Cage

Netflix May Have Its Jessica Jones And Luke Cage

Thursday saw some big news in the Marvel world, particularly with Ryan Reynolds being named as Deadpool in an upcoming film and Benedict Cumberbatch being named as Doctor Strange.

As you may know, Netflix has a few original series from Marvel in the works, beginning with Daredevil, which is to debut in 2015.

This will be followed by Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. These will combine as one big “epic,” and culminate in a miniseries event, The Defenders. The endeavor will stretch over multiple years, and as the announcement said, will take Netflix members “deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell’s Kitchen, New York.”

It appears that Marvel now has its Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Deadline is reporting:

Marvel is mum as usual, but I hear they have tapped Krysten Ritter for the lead in the company’s straight-to-series drama Jessica Jones. Ritter was one of five actresses who tested for the role. I hear it came down to her and Teresa Palmer, with both doing chemistry reads with The Following‘s Mike Colter, believed to be the choice for male lead Luke Cage.

  • Krysten Ritter is Marvel’s New Jessica Jones

Krysten Ritter has done other things since playing Jesse Pinkman’s junkie girlfriend Jane Margolis on Breaking Bad. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul have, too. But does anyone think anything will ever overshadow their work on that show? Don’t Trust the B—— in Apartment 23 sure didn’t do it for Ritter.

Maybe Krysten Ritter can make a new name for herself now. Word on the street is that Ritter is the choice to play Marvel superhero Jessica Jones in an upcoming Netflix television series.

Jessica Jones is known to Marvel fans as a different kind of heroine. She started off normal. She was a high school classmate of Peter Parker, and had a crush on him. But Parker got busy with the whole Spidey gig and Jessica got left behind.

Then she was in a car accident, covered in chemicals, and slipped into a coma. When she came out of the coma, she had superpowers. She had great strength, she was impervious to most weaponry, and she could fly — sort of.

The thing is, Jessica Jones never quite got good at being a superhero. Her flying was spotty. She stumbled into more victories than she attained on purpose. She went by several different identity names, including Jewel, Knightress, and Power Woman.

Eventually she hung up her cape, so to speak, and started a private investigations firm. She keeps getting pulled back into the superhero life, but eventually has a baby with fellow superhero Luke Cage.

Krysten Ritter is said to be one of only five actresses who were considered for the part.

Marvel is actually doing four series with Netflix. These will center around Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. Luke Cage

  • Krysten Ritter: Don’t Trust That Bitch

Krysten Ritter: Don’t Trust That Bitch

You may not recognize the name, but that could all change soon enough. Krysten Ritter is building an impressive television resume that probably includes at least one character you recognize, and her latest venture is the aptly-named ABC show “Don’t Trust The B– In Apartment 23”, which premieres tonight.

Ritter is a rare find; she describes herself as “not conventionally pretty”, yet sports the glossy black hair and ivory skin of a pin-up model. In fact, her bangs recall the likes of Bettie Page, perhaps the most famous pin-up of them all. Plus–rather importantly–the girl is funny. Her looks have gotten her typecast as the goth/druggie in several roles, but Ritter says this latest one has been fun to play because she gets to explore other sides of her talent.

The character, Chloe, is described by Ritter as the product of Holly Golightly and the devil; she scams and schemes her way through life, making enough enemies along the way to afford the show’s title. “Dawson’s Creek” alum James Van Der Beek co-stars, playing himself and Chloe’s best friend.

In perhaps one of her best roles, Ritter played addict Jane Margolis on AMC’s “Breaking Bad”, the girl who steals Jesse Pinkman’s heart and then goes for his bag of meth-produced cash. In a charming commercial for “Don’t Trust The B–In Apartment 23” in which various Chloe-victims talk about the vicious acts she committed against them, Bryan Cranston–who plays lead character Walter White on “Breaking Bad”–makes a cameo (and an inside joke, for you BB fans).

Viewers seem to be eagerly anticipating the show:
