  • Kristin Scott Thomas Named Dame by Queen Elizabeth

Kristin Scott Thomas can add something besides actor to her already impressive resume. On Tuesday, December 30th, Queen Elizabeth named her a dame. The honor is to women what being knighted is to men.

Kristin Scott Thomas, who is due to play the British monarch in stage play The Audience in 2015, said at first she didn’t believe the news.

“I am thrilled, astonished and worried that I might suddenly wake up,” she said.

Scott Thomas received an Academy Award nomination back in 1997 for her role in The English Patient.

She wasn’t the only one on Tuesday to receive such exciting news, however. Actress Joan Collins, fashion designer Mary Quant (known for designing the mini-skirt back in the 1960s), and actress Emily Watson were all named as dames. Actor John Hurt, chemist Simon Campbell (one of the inventors of the erectile dysfunction medication Viagra), and comic actor James Corden (he will soon take over on The Late Late Show for Craig Ferguson) were all named as knights.

All of the aforementioned honors are bestowed by the monarch, however they were chosen by committees of civil servants. Nominations came from both the public and the government.

Knights are hereby addressed as ‘Sir,’ and then the person’s name–for example, Sir Simon Campbell. Dames are addressed as ‘Dame,’ and then their name–for example, Dame Kristin Scott Thomas.

Congratulations to Dame Kristin Scott Thomas, Dame Joan Collins, Dame Mary Quant, and Dame Emily Watson, as well as to Sir John Hurt, Sir Simon Campbell, and Sir James Corden. May they live up to the expectations of Queen Elizabeth.

  • Kristin Scott Thomas to Take on the Role of Queen Elizabeth II in West End Production

Kristin Scott Thomas is the next in line to play a reigning royal on stage.

Thomas will receive the crown from Helen Mirren in a revival of the West End play, The Audience. She will be taking on the role Queen Elizabeth II, originally played by Mirren.

Mirren, who also played Queen Elizabeth II in film The Queen, will be taking her production, directed by two-time Tony Award winner Stephen Daldry, to Broadway in February.

Mirren originated the role in the 2013 West End production of the play and won an Olivier Award for her performance.

Written by Peter Morgan, the play documents the monarch’s relationships with the dozen prime ministers who have served during her six-decade reign.

Daldry will also direct the new London production, which begins previews April 21 at London’s Apollo Theatre.

Scott Thomas, whose film credits include Four Weddings and a Funeral, The English Patient and Only God Forgives, is currently starring in Sophocles’ Electra at London’s Old Vic Theatre.

Meanwhile, Mirren was recently named the new face of L’Oréal Paris at the age of 69. Now, that is cool.

  • Margot Robbie Wows on Empire Awards Red Carpet

Margot Robbie wowed onlookers at the 2014 Jameson Empire Awards on Sunday with an eye-catching scarlet jumpsuit.

Robbie accessorized the off-the-shoulder, flared-leg number with minimal jewelry and makeup, a simple black belt, and black peep-toe heels. She wore her newly-brunette hair in loose waves.

However, her show-stealing appearance was only one part of Robbie’s success at the London awards ceremony. Most notably, she won the Best Female Newcomer Award for her performance in The Wolf of Wall Street.

The 23-year-old Australian actress faced some tough competition for the award, including Lupita Nyong’o, who took home an Oscar last month for her supporting role in 12 Years a Slave.

Robbie’s role opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street was her biggest to date but she’s been keeping busy since then.

She’s set to star alongside Michelle Williams and Kristin Scott Thomas in the movie adaptation of Irène Némirovsky’s posthumously-published World War II novel Suite Française.

Next up is Focus with Will Smith, scheduled for a February 2015 release.

Robbie recently wrapped filming on Z for Zachariah, most of which took place in New Zealand. The post-apocalyptic science fiction flick also stars Chris Pine and is slated for a 2015 release.

Finally, Robbie will star as Jane in a live-action version of Tarzan which is scheduled to release in July 2016. Samuel L. Jackson, Alexander Skarsgård, and Christoph Waltz will also star in the big-budget Warner Brothers production.

Robbie’s love life is the subject of much speculation. In November rumors surfaced that she was involved with Focus costar Will Smith.

In January Orlando Bloom reportedly showered Robbie with attention at a Golden Globes after party.

In February Z for Zachariah production team member Henry Aitken posted a photo of himself and Robbie on his Facebook page, sparking a new round of rumors.

  • Kristin Scott Thomas Has Decided To End Her Acting Career

Bad news has arrived for fans of French film especially, and those who have come to love the work of Kristin Scott Thomas. She is one of the most talented actresses that has been seen in recent years, but has now decided to end her career.

Kristin Scott Thomas is an actress who has been seen in a handful of American films, but she is primarily known for her work in French films.

She recently announced that she will be quitting as an actress, although she does have a handful of films that are still scheduled to come out in the near future. She reached a point last year for the first time in her life where she felt that she could not go on any longer.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Kristin Scott Thomas said “I realized I’ve done the things I know how to do so many times in different languages, and I just suddenly thought, I can’t do it any more. I’m bored by it. So I’m stopping. The kinds of films that I do are usually quite rapidly put together, and it always seems to be a little bit of a shambles. I like filming, but what I don’t like is having to rearrange things and rewrite scenes. I just can’t be bothered.”

The actress is a native of England, but after having spent the majority of her life living in Paris, she feels that she is more French than British. The multilingual actress has had success in both languages, and may be known best to American audiences for her roles in The Horse Whisperer and The English Patient. Her role in The English Patient also earned her an Academy Award nomination.

She was recently seen playing Ryan Gosling’s mother in the intense and disturbing film Only God Forgives, which was released in the summer of 2013. Thomas has been seen in numerous films throughout her career, which began in 1984 with a miniseries called Mistral’s Daughter.

In the past 30 years, she has made 65 films, touching on two languages, and a variety of subjects. While she has had a lengthy and successful career, she is only 53, and has plenty of time to return to film if she chooses to later on.

After appearing in an average of more than two films per year throughout her career, Kristin Scott Thomas has considered herself a workaholic, and now jokes that she is a “recovering actress.”

Her latest, The Invisible Woman, is coming to theaters soon, and she has two more films that are in post-production, with one in pre-production. Some of her notable French films include Tell No One, I’ve Loved You So Long, and Love Crime.

In the latter part of her career, Kristin Scott Thomas has had bigger roles in small French films, while continuing her career in English films with smaller roles. She will be taking a break indefinitely, but perhaps fans can hold out some hope that she will return to the cinema eventually.
