  • “Ebony” Magazine’s Controversial “Cosby Show” Cover Elicits Criticism and Praise

Ebony magazine’s November issue comes with a rather controversial cover. The Cosby Show cast members appear on it, as though under glass in a frame photo. That glass is broken, smashed hard over the face of Bill Cosby.

Ebony received many comments regarding the Cosby cover on its Facebook page.

“wow —how quickly everyone is jumping on the ‘bash Bill Cosby” bandwagon… none of these allegations have been proven — I expect this from white people, but from Ebony?— wow,” one commenter weighed in.

“Kudos to everyone at Ebony for having the courage to take a bold, powerful stand!” another wrote.

    Comments were Tweeted, too.

Malcolm Jamal Warner played Theo Huxtable–the son of Bill Cosby’s character, Dr. Cliff Hustable on The Cosby Show. Raven-Symone played Cliff’s granddaughter Olivia. Both actors weighed in on the Ebony Cosby cover Friday on The View.

“We really don’t have enough time on this show to really talk about how I feel about that,” Warner said.

“Let’s not forget that The Cosby Show was a sitcom and not a reality show,” Raven-Symoné added. “Let’s just remember that this was a sitcom and we had writers and things of that nature.”

“That’s the show that we’re all very proud to have been on,” Warner said.

Earlier in October, Malcolm Jamal Warner talked of how The Cosby Show set a great example, and that recent allegations against Bill Cosby had tarnished its reputation.

“When we’ve had images that perpetuate the negative stereotype of people of color, we’ve always had The Cosby Show to hold up against that,” he said. “And the fact that we no longer have that, kinda leaves us not in a great place in terms of having the wide scope of the images of people of color.”

Keshia Knight Pulliam played Rudy Huxtable on The Cosby Show. She said “based upon the people that continuously approach me and talk about how it’s profoundly impacted their lives, I don’t feel you can take that back.”

“The generation of people of color who have chosen to go to college because they watched that show…you can’t take that away,” Warner also said on The View.

Did Ebony magazine cross a line? In taking aim at Bill Cosby did they also tarnish something many families–not just families of color, either–had held dear for decades?

It would certainly be interesting to learn if more people who viewed this Ebony Cosby cover believe the magazine is right or wrong in featuring the cast members of The Cosby Show collectively in such a negative light.

Keshia Knight Pulliam: Fired For Not Calling Cosby

Keshia Knight Pulliam was fired from Sunday night’s season premiere of The Celebrity Apprentice.

The episode centered around a fundraising bake sale for charity. Keshia Knight Pulliam was the project lead for her team, but according to Donald Trump she didn’t make the right phone call that could have put her team over the edge.

Pulliam made a pretty decent argument as to why she didn’t phone up her TV father from decades ago.

“I have not talked to Bill Cosby on the phone in I don’t know how long,” she explained. “For me to pick up the phone having not talked to you for five years, except for when we run into each other for a Cosby event, I feel that’s not my place to do.”

That makes sense to those of us who don’t like bugging friends and family for money.

However, Trump wasn’t afraid to tell Keshia Knight Pulliam exactly what he thought of her consideration for Bill Cosby.

He said, “You have this tremendous guy with this tremendous amount of money. And with one phone call you could have won this whole event.”

Trump continued, “I really believe, if you’d called that gentleman, he would’ve helped you, even if you hadn’t spoken to him in years. Because you were an amazing team with one of the most successful shows ever, so I think it would have been a very quick call to make for charity…Keshia, you’re fired.”

Ouch. The Trump firing is always a little painful for everyone, but it was especially cringe-worthy in light of recent events.

The episode with Keshia Knight Pulliam was filmed before all of the sex abuse accusations formed a dark cloud around Bill Cosby’s name, but Trump remains steadfast in his decision.

That guy. Always the business man!

What do you think of Keshia Knight Pulliam’s boot from the show last night? Who should be next?

  • Keshia Knight Pulliam Fired By Trump; He Speaks Out On Twitter

Keshia Knight Pulliam, perhaps best known for her portrayal of Rudy on The Cosby Show, was the first contestant to go on Sunday night’s episode of The Celebrity Apprentice, and today Donald Trump is catching heat for the reason behind it.

Pulliam was the project manager for her team–which included Kate Gosselin, Vivica A. Fox, Shawn Johnson, Bradi Glanville, Kenya Moore, and Leeza Gibbons–and led the group in raising funds for the charity Kamp Kizzy by selling pies. But when Trump told her to put in a call to her former television dad Bill Cosby, she refused, saying she didn’t feel it was right to ask for a favor when she hadn’t spoken to him in years.

“I have not talked to Bill Cosby on the phone in I don’t know how long. For me to pick up the phone having not talked to you for five years, except for when we run into each other for a Cosby event, I feel that’s not my place to do,” she said.

Trump said that while she is an “amazing” person, she failed to take responsibility for her team and their project. After the show aired, Trump took to Twitter to clear up some things; namely, that the episode was filmed before all the sexual abuse allegations against Cosby came to light. However, he says she still should have called in a favor regardless.

Cosby has largely kept out of the spotlight since the allegations began coming to light last year, but the backlash was immediate. Over 20 women have come forward with stories of alleged abuse at the hands of the actor and comedian, including models Janice Dickinson and Beverly Johnson.
