  • Kenny Rogers Could See a Career Resurgence If He Did This One Thing

Kenny Rogers has been at it so long that he has seen numerous periods of resurgence in his fame. It was one thing to turn on the radio in the 80s and hear Kenny Rogers crossover hits coming out of the speakers, but when the singer took the stage at Bonnaroo in 2012 with Phish to play “The Gambler,” it was almost surreal.

“It was so much fun, they were so receptive,” Kenny said recently, reminiscing about the Bonnaroo crowd. “(Phish) came in my dressing room and said, ‘We really want to do this, would you mind doing it?’ and I said, ‘No, I don’t mind doing it.’ And, when I performed at Bonnaroo, the first thing I said was, ‘What’s wrong with this picture, Kenny Rogers and Bonnarro?’ And it was fun. The people loved it.

Maybe many of those people were telling each other that it was Kenny Rogers who sang that “Just Dropped In” song in the Big Lebowski dream sequence. That’s cred.

Kenny Rogers also said recently that people in Korea have told him that they have learned to speak English from listening to his music.

Kenny Rogers isn’t resting. He’s playing gigs, and he just announced he will release a new Christmas album this Fall. Once Again It’s Christmas will feature guest stars like Alison Krauss, Jennifer Nettles, Home Free, Jim Brickman and Winfield’s Locket.

“I feel like this is a special group of songs–both old and new–and I was particularly lucky to be joined by many talented guest artists and musicians who each have something unique to say,” Rogers said of the album.

Here’s an idea: Kenny Rogers could do albums like Carlos Santana does. Invite younger artists — country, pop, and rock — to join him in singing an album full of new songs.

It could work. Kenny Rogers had so many hits that his entire live shows nowadays are packed end-to-end with recognizable tunes.

“I just do all the hits I can do,” Rogers said of his live shows. “Every song, from start to finish, was a hit. It’s pretty safe when you do that. I put them in an order that I think is fascinating and … really, it’s just a question of pacing the show with my hits. Someone asked me if I got tired of doing the hits and I said, ‘No, I don’t want to be the guy that goes out there without them’ because that’s a great comfort zone.”

If Kenny Rogers did a series of albums, all with guest artists, he could even re-visit some of those hits joined by new blood, as well as new material. After three of those, hook up with Rick Rubin and get the Johnny Cash treatment.

Kenny Rogers could be back on top yet again.

  • Dolly Parton Plans to Walk Down The Aisle Again

Country music icon Dolly Parton says she’s ready to walk down the aisle again after 50 years of marriage to husband Carl Dean, and she plans to do it in two years.

“We’ve talked about that, we might do it all over again,” she said in a story reported by the Tennessean. But this time she plans to exchange vows in her Tennessee home instead of doing it in Georgia like the first go around. We plan to do it “at our big old plantation home [in Tennessee],” Parton noted. “We love it there.”

Although the 67-year old singer is rarely seen with her husband in public and usually tours without him, she says that’s the way they both prefer it.

“He’s happy staying home and I’m happy traveling,” Parton explains. “Once many, many years ago, he went with me to Hawaii and he enjoyed that, but he never wanted to go anywhere else. We’re both pretty much old mountain goats,” which means she’ll most likely be traveling without him for Glastonbury 2014, as she’s been selected to play on the festival’s Pyramid Stage.

One of the concert’s organizers said that Parton was the ideal choice for Glastonbury. “Dolly is perfect for the Sunday Legends slot,” said the insider. “It didn’t take any convincing. She’s always wanted to play Glastonbury.”

And the ‘I will always love you” singer plans to attend the festival by way of helicopter, as she’ll be already touring in the UK. “She’ll get a helicopter straight down on Sunday or maybe even Saturday night after the show,” the organizer said.

Besides Parton, attendees of the four day extravaganza will also see acts like the Arctic Monkeys, rapper Dizzee Rascal, The Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello, Mumford & Sons and even Parton’s old time working partner Kenny Rogers, and it’ll be held from June 25, to June 29, 2014.

Additionally, she’ll begin her Blue Smoke World Tour on Jan. 24, 2014 in Rancho Mirage, Calif. and end it on July 11 in Stockholm, Sweden.

  • Kenny Rogers Home Sells for $2.5 Million

Kenny Rogers home, which was to be sold at auction on Tuesday, was suddenly pulled off the block with very little explanation, according to Online Athens. Instead of watching the property disappear into the hands of the highest bidder, Rogers decided to go with a much more substantial offer: $2.5 million.

Rogers, who has penned a number of country music staples over the years, announced earlier this year that he intended to part with his expansive Jackson County estate at auction. Advertisements for the event claimed that there was no minimum bid, which caused a number of individuals with weighty bank accounts to crawl out of the proverbial woodwork. Unfortunately, by the time these anxious bidders were ready to toss some wads of money at the singer’s home, the entire auction had been called off. So much for being a gambler.

Shortly after the auction was scheduled to begin, a lawyer made his way before the crowd and announced that “Kenny has decided to take the house off the market.” For some, the disappointment was palpable.

“I wasn’t going to pay that kind of money for it,” Athens, Georgia resident J.B. Weaver Jr. explained “It was advertised so heavily as ‘absolute, no reserve.”

Although bidders were probably extremely agitated about not having an opportunity to bid on the property, even the most bitter of those in attendance can’t argue with Rogers’ decision to sell his home for such a substantial amount of cash. Presently, no explanation has been offered as to why, exactly, the auction was cancelled or who decided to spend that much money on the estate.

According to the auction house, Rogers’ property consists of a “5,681-square-foot house, a 2,675-square-foot pool, an 8-acre lake, horse riding trails, go-cart track and other amenities.”

That’s what country music and fried chicken can get you these days, kids.
