  • Keira Knightley in Talks to Play Catherine the Great in Barbra Streisand-Directed Film

Keira Knightley is reportedly in talks to play Catherine the Great in an upcoming film directed by Barbra Streisand.

This isn’t recent news, however, although the press didn’t grab wind of it until recently. It was last year when Keira Knightley first met with Streisand to discuss the project. The Hollywood Reporter says talks are progressing slowly.

Catherine the Great was born Sophia Augusta Fredericka, and wound up the longest-ruling female ruler of Russia. The as-yet unnamed biopic will follow her life, including her marriage to abusive husband Emperor Peter III, and her eventual rise to power.

This biopic will mark the fourth film directed by Barbra Streisand.

In addition to this possible upcoming role, Keira Knightley has starred in The Pirates of the Caribbean, The Imitation Game, Anna Karenina, and Pride & Prejudice. She recently joined the cast of Collateral Beauty alongside Helen Mirren, Will Smith, Edward Norton, Naomie Harris, and Michael Pena.

Can you imagine Keira Knightley in this role as Catherine the Great? She has certainly proven herself in period films.

Fans will have to wait until December 17, however, as it’s not slated to hit the big screen until then.

  • Keira Knightley to Star Alongside Will Smith in “Collateral Beauty”

Keira Knightley has signed on as a cast member in an upcoming film called Collateral Beauty. She will play opposite Will Smith in the movie.

Most recently seen in Everest, Knightley is no stranger to the big screen.

Nominated for Best Supporting Actress last year for her role in The Imitation Game, Keira Knightley is presently in talks to star in the biopic Colette. She has appeared in films including Pride & Prejudice, Begin Again, Atonement, and Love Actually.

Collateral Beauty is about a man–a New York advertising executive (played by Will Smith)–who has experienced a personal tragedy. His colleagues come up with a rather unconventional way to help him through his grief.

In addition to Keira Knightley and Will Smith, Collateral Beauty will star Helen Mirren, Edward Norton, Michael Peña, and Naomie Harris. It will be directed by David Frankel.

It’s possible that next year’s Academy Award nominations will include Keira Knightley, Will Smith, or one of their cast mates. Collateral Beauty is scheduled to hit theaters on December 16, and that makes it in time for 2017’s nominations.

Production for Collateral Beauty is set to begin later this month in New York.

  • Keira Knightley: Being A New Mother Gave Her Courage To Try “Scary”, “Difficult” Role

Keira Knightley just made her official Broadway debut on Thursday in Therese Raquin, an adaptation of Emile Zola’s 1867 novel.

While Keira Knightley showcased her talent, the reviews all seemed to give the play itself a resounding, “Meh.”

Keira Knightley played the title role, which had her stepping into the shoes of a disimpassioned married woman who finds excitement in the arms of her husband’s friend.

Of course, Keira Knightley’s character, Therese, finds chaos and calamity at the end of that path.

Despite the dark nature of the play, Keira Knightley was a very bright spot according to some critics.

For instance, Jesse Green of Vulture said of Keira Knightley’s performance, “She is compelling and articulate, especially when silent, and brings to the morose tale the banked-fire quality that seems to illuminate such material from within.”

The role of Therese Raquin is clearly a challenging one to play, and the switch from big screen to Broadway is obviously like night and day for someone like Keira Knightley.

However, Keira Knightley recently said that it was her new-found motherhood that gave her the courage to try.

She said, “I’ve been offered it a bunch of times and I’ve always gone, ‘Well, this is scary and this is really difficult.’ I still find it terrifying, but why not give it a go.”

Keira Knightley also said, “I’m very grateful to become a mother while doing something this unbelievably difficult, because honestly the worst that could happen is that you fail.”

But that’s okay, because, she added, “Ultimately as long as my kid is all right, everything is fine.”

    So true.

What do you think of Keira Knightley’s courage to try a new and challenging role on Broadway after years of big screen success?

  • Keira Knightley Had an Interesting Week on Broadway

Keira Knightley had a pretty odd week on Broadway.

The actress is currently starring in the play Thérèse Raquin, but what is being called a “minor injury” held her out on Wednesday night.

According to Roundabout Theater Company, which is putting on the production, Knightley suffered a small injury to her wrist. She missed Wednesday night’s show, and the play was cancelled. Knightley quickly returned to work on Thursday

In the play, Knightley plays a women in a loveless relationship who seeks comfort from an old friend.

“A quiet young woman with a restless spirit, Thérèse (Knightley) submits to a loveless life at the side of her weak and selfish husband played by Tony Award winner Gabriel Ebert (Matilda), and her controlling mother-in-law, played by two-time Tony Award winner Judith Light (The Assembled Parties)…until she meets his childhood friend Laurent played by Matt Ryan (“Constantine”). When their overwhelming passion spins violently out of control, they realize that love can be a dangerous game, and sometimes there is no winner. Based on the novel by Émile Zola, Thérèse Raquin by Helen Edmundson is a tale of love, lust, betrayal and guilt that will leave you breathless.”

Actually, injury isn’t the worst thing to happen to Keira Knightley and her play. The actress was recently forced to file a harassment complaint against a man who disrupted the performance on opening night.

A man, who the NY Post is calling a “Texas drifter”, stood up in the mezzanine and professed his love for Knightley saying “We’re going to be in heaven together.”

He then threw a bouquet of roses at her feet.

  • Keira Knightley Makes Broadway Debut Despite Man Who Interrupts by Shouting, Throwing Flowers

Keira Knightley made her Broadway debut in a preview performance of Thérèse Raquin on Thursday amidst a bit of chaos. A man in the balcony shouted at the actress, then threw flowers as security took him away.

New York City police were notified of the incident around 8:15 p.m. on Thursday. They decided to take the man who shouted at Knightley to a hospital for a mental evaluation. The man, whose name hasn’t been released, was neither arrested nor charged with a crime.

“Keira, none of this is real!” and “Will you marry me?” are among the things the audience member shouted at Keira Knightley early in her performance, the show eventually went on. She reportedly remained calm and professional throughout the incident.

Prior to making her Broadway debut, Knightley starred in The Imitation Game, for which she receivedthe Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her other films include Pride & Prejudice, Seeking A Friend for the End of the World, Begin Again and the Pirates of the Caribbean films.

Keira Knightley did an excellent job of remaining calm during the incident that took place during her Broadway debut. Less seasoned actresses might have become visibly shaken by such an ordeal, and been unable to resume their performance.

Are you a Keira Knightley fan? Would you like to check her out on Broadway in Thérèse Raquin?

The show officially opens on October 29th.

  • Keira Knightley Gets Heckled, Proposed To While On Stage In Broadway Debut

Keira Knightley was all set to make her big Broadway debut on Thursday night, playing the title character in the play Therese Raquin.

However, things did not go smoothly for Keira Knightley on her big night.

Only minutes into the play, a man in the audience began shouting at Keira Knightley from the mezzanine railing, saying, “Keira, none of this is real! This is all an act! Christ was born of a virgin!”

According to an eye witness, the man also screamed, “I love you,” at Keira Knightley and asked her to marry him.

Keira Knightley, ever the true professional, didn’t respond and didn’t even break character.

This prompted the man to yell, “Five seconds is too long to wait for a response!”

Security then hauled the man out of the theatre, but not before he threw a bunch of flowers onstage.

At that point, Keira Knightley’s co-star, Gabriel Ebert, couldn’t take it anymore. He broke character long enough to kick the flowers off the stage.

Obviously, that would be a little alarming.

Afterwards, the show went off without a hitch, marking the completion of Keira Knightley’s first Broadway show.

It wasn’t Keira Knightley’s first time on stage, however.

Keira Knightley made her West End debut in 2009 in The Misanthrope. Two years later, Keira Knightley starred in The Children’s Hour.

What do you think about Keira Knightley’s creepy encounter?

  • Keira Knightley, James Righton Welcome Baby, Gender Still A Mystery

Keira Knightley, most recently of The Imitation Game fame, welcomed her first baby with husband James Righton. It’s uncertain when the baby was born or whether she had a boy or a girl, which is very typical Keira Knightley style.

It was back in February when Knightley appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she joked about not having any kind of birth plan in place.

“There isn’t an option to sort of keep it in, is there?” she asked. “So, I’m assuming my plan is to get it out. But apparently there’s more to the plan than that. I don’t know what that is. Still, my plan is to get it out. It will come out.”

Keira Knightley dished about her pregnancy on the red carpet at the Golden Globes back in January, too.

“Luckily, I don’t have lipstick. I only have nuts in here. It’s the wonderful thing about being pregnant. You just need to make sure you have snacks. So this is a snack bag,” she said.

Page Six reports that although neither Keira Knightley nor her husband wanted anyone to know the sex of their baby before she gave birth, she may have slipped at the SAG Awards earlier in 2015.

“It’s all quite loose,” she said of her maternity style. “I’m quite comfortable, she’s quite comfortable.”

Did Keira Knightley and James Righton have a baby girl? It seems until one of them confirms the baby’s birth, fans will simply have to wait and see.

  • Keira Knightley Could Not Be More Adorable In Latest Baby Bump Pics

Keira Knightley is getting close to giving birth to her first child with husband James Righton, and the latest pics of the expectant “mum” could not be more adorable.

Always beautiful, Keira Knightley absolutely glows now that her due date is approaching.

In her latest outings, the 30-year-old British actress has been seen in a variety of elegant ensembles.

On one outing, Keira Knightley sported an all-black dress and jackets, accessorized with comfy sandals.

Despite this being her first pregnancy and initiation into motherhood, Keira Knightley seems more than ready and unconcerned.

Joking with Ellen DeGeneres about the “whole birthing plan” idea, Keira Knightley asked the host, “Sorry, but what is the plan apart from to get it out?”

“There isn’t an option to sort of keep it in, is there?” she said. “So, I’m assuming my plan is to get it out. But apparently there’s more to the plan than that. I don’t know what that is. Still, my plan is to get it out. It will come out.”

Keira has apparently decided to not find out the sex of her child, but as she waits, she longs for the pleasures on her former, non-pregnant state. She told DeGeneres that at one medical appointment the doctor asked if she had any questions.

“Yes,” Knightley answered. “When can I drink? Please? I just want a margarita!”

Husband James is helping her out as much as possible in this area.

“[James is] having a great time,” Keira Knightley said. “I’m eating for two and he’s drinking for two!”

Do you think Keira Knightley will have a girl or a boy?

  • Keira Knightley Due Soon, Shows Off Bump During London Outings

Keira Knightley is getting really close to her due date!

Keira Knightley is rested after a busy awards season for The Imitation Game earlier this year, and has been out and about in London enjoying the lovely spring weather.

Several photogs have captured Keira Knightley all over town with her bump dressed in classy high fashion, as was expected.

Of course, Keira Knightley looked comfortable in a loose-fitting skirt. That was the plan.

Keira Knightley said of maternity fashion early on, “[Being pregnant] means you’re not going to wear anything tight. Actually, people do wear tight things when they’re pregnant, don’t they? I don’t want to go for that.”

Though she is notoriously private, while she was doing her talk show circuit during the awards season, Keira Knightley talked a lot about her upcoming motherhood and her pregnancy.

One of Keira Knightley’s funniest appearances was on Ellen, when she recounted some unsolicited advice she received.

Keira Knightley said, “Somebody said to me the other day the problem with boys is, sorry this is horrible, but when you’re changing their nappies you can get the wee in your face.”

Keira Knightley continued, “I’ve got a lot of people nodding at me, but I never knew that before so it was terrifying.”

Keira Knightley gladly admitted that the whole thing sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

She said, “And apparently they roll as well so you have to like try to stop them while you’re trying to grab something else in order to stop them peeing in your face. So that’s sounds quite interesting.”

Oh, boy, is she in for it.

  • Keira Knightley Used To Be Called Names, Spit On By Paparazzi

Keira Knightley is on top of the world right now.

Keira Kngihtley has been nominated for a best supporting actress Oscar.

The movie in which Keira Knightley stars with Benedict Cumberbatch, The Imitation Game, has been immensely popular and is up for a few Oscars, as well.

Keira Kngihtley seems to be working lately without a pause, which speaks volumes of her talent and stamina.

However, Keira Knightley didn’t always have it so easy.

When Keira Knightley began acting at the age of eight, she unknowingly set herself up to mature in front of paparazzi, and therefore, the world.

That experience was admittedly miserable and sometimes downright terrifying.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acIqc8PtvPo

Keira Knightley, during the TimesTalks and TIFF Q&A on Monday, said that during the Pirates of the Caribbean frenzy, paparazzi would yell at her and call her a wh**e just to get a reaction.

She added, “Having 20 to 30 men who you don’t know on a 24-hour surveillance outside your house calling you a ‘wh**e’ every time you leave the door to try to get a reaction from you is quite a difficult thing to deal with.”

It’s definitely not something the average young person has to deal with on a daily basis, but Keira Knightly pics were highly sought after and the more upset she was in them, the better.

Also, if those pics of Keira Knightley showed a little more skin than usual, a shutterbug could make a killing. So, they got pretty aggressive sometimes.

“It was a time when there was a lot of money for pictures of women crying or of women in some state of undress. You’d walk down the street and you’d have men trying to get under your skirt to take pictures up your skirt and all the time calling you a ‘wh**e’ or all the time spitting at you or all the time trying to get a reaction from the guy you were with because it would make the price of that photograph quadruple.”

Ok, that is just shameful. No one should have to put up with that, especially a young woman. Maybe that kind of thing flies in Britain, but not here.

Keira Knightley said that things have changed for her now that she is married and she and her husband, musician James Righton, are expecting their first child.

    Still, that is just disturbing.

Will you be cheering on Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley during the Oscars?

  • Keira Knightley: Her Husband Is Drinking For Two

Keira Knightley is not having that much fun this awards season.

Keira Knightley should be really enjoying this time as her movie, The Imitation Game, is up for several awards.

Apart from several awards for the movie, Keira Knightley is in the race for best supporting actress.

Despite all the fun of the awards season and the general festivity of it all, Keira Knightly is being left out. Since she’s pregnant, she is having to pass up all of the alcohol that everyone else gets to enjoy.

    Especially her husband, James Righton.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOcpvFLA3tw

Keira Knightley was on Ellen Tuesday to talk about how her life is going.

During the interview, she disclosed that her hubby is drinking for two as she is eating for two.

Knightley said, “There’s a lot of free champagne so he thinks because I’m not drinking the free champagne he has to. So all of it.”

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70vpzPjcOoQ

When Keira Knightley asked Ellen if she wanted to make a guess as to what she is having, Ellen guessed boy.

That guess sparked a very interesting story from Keira Knightley that she heard while receiving some unsolicited advice.

She said, “Somebody said to me the other day the problem with boys is, sorry this is horrible, but when you’re changing their nappies you can get the wee in your face.”

She added, “I’ve got a lot of people nodding at me, but I never knew that before so it was terrifying.”

Keira Knightley admitted that the whole thing sounds like a fiasco waiting to happen.

She said, “And apparently they roll as well so you have to like try to stop them while you’re trying to grab something else in order to stop them peeing in your face. So that’s sounds quite interesting.”

Keira Kngihtley will soon be aware that the whole thing is one “interesting” mishap after another!

  • Keira Knightley Shows Off Baby Bump On Red Carpet

Keira Knightley was sporting an adorable accessory on the red carpet for the Writers Guild Awards over the weekend.

That would be her baby bump.

Keira Knightley dressed her bump in a sweet vintage-style lace dress for the Writer’s Guild Awards, giving us a preview of what we might expect for the red carpet at this weekend’s Oscars.

Keira Knightley will likely wear something loose and comfortable. She will likely keep with the same style throughout her pregnancy.

She has previously stated, “It just means that you’re not going to wear anything tight for me.”

Keira Knightly added, “Actually, people do wear tight things when they’re pregnant, don’t they? I don’t want to, so it’s just all quite loose. I’m quite comfortable.”

Her red carpet looks have been stunning this award season and have all accentuated that bump in perfect taste and comfortable grace.

It will be fun to see what Keira Knightley wears to the Oscars! It will definitely be a big night for her.

The Imitation Game is nominated for best picture, best adapted screenplay, best film editing, best original score and best production design.

Keira Knightley is up for best supporting actress. Her co-star, Benedict Cumberbatch, has been nominated for best actor and Morten Tyldum has been nominated for best director.

That is Keira Knightley’s plan for the weekend. As far as her plans for the future, she has no intention of giving up her career once her baby arrives.

Keira Knightley previously gave her opinion on the matter to Vogue. This was a short time after State Department director of policy planning Anne-Marie Slaughter announced that she was stepping down to put the needs of her family ahead of her own career.

Keira Knightley said, “I’m glad that the subject is coming up again. I remember doing interviews, and people would ask, as if it was a joke, ‘So you mean you are a feminist?’ As though feminism couldn’t be discussed unless we were making fun of it. I don’t want to deny my femininity.”

She added, “But would I want to be a stay-at-home mother? No. On the other hand, you should be allowed to do that, as should men, without being sneered at.”

What do you think about Keira Knightley’s plans for motherhood?

  • Keira Knightley Fakes An Orgasm For Vanity Fair

Keira Knightley is among several British stars who appear in a short film by Jason Bell that takes a stab at recreating several famous scenes from Hollywood’s varied history, and her bit is getting a lot of attention this week. The actress took on Meg Ryan’s famous scene from When Harry Met Sally…you know the one.

Knightley joined fellow actors Felicity Jones, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Dormer, and Emily Blunt for the short film–which was created for Vanity Fair–and tackles the role all by herself in a diner. Other segments include scenes from Bonnie And Clyde, Gone With The Wind, and To Have And Have Not. Jason Bell said he was inspired to do an all-Brit film comprising so many of Hollywood’s most famous scenes after realizing that there has been something of a British invasion in recent years.

Keira Knightley has been making headlines for her part in the film, which focuses on the actress as she sits alone in a gorgeous beaded gown.

Knightley was reunited with her Imitation Game co-star Benedict Cumberbatch for the film, and earlier this week they got together once more for a pre-BAFTA celebration at the Newport Beach Film Festival, where Knightley earned some attention with a shimmery floral dress with plenty of room for her growing belly. The mom-to-be said she had the gown custom-made and wanted a bit of room to move.

“People do wear tight things when they’re pregnant. I don’t really go for that,” Keira Knightley said. “The waist has disappeared, so I can’t do that.”

Cumberbatch is also expecting his first child, with fiancee Sophie Hunter. According to a source at the New York Post, the couple plan to marry soon.

“Sophie is a few months along, and both she and Benedict are very excited about it. They are also quietly planning to marry in early spring,” the source said.

  • Patricia Arquette: From ‘Medium’ to Golden Globe Winner

Patricia Arquette: From ‘Medium’ to Golden Globe Winner

Patricia Arquette, known for her role as psychic Allison Dubois in the hit NBC show Medium, won a Golden Globe on Sunday for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for the film Boyhood. Arquette beat out some stiff competition on the road to this award. She was up against Jessica Chastain, Keira Knightley, Emma Stone, and Meryl Streep. That’s a cast of characters that aren’t easy to beat.

Genuinely touched by her win, Patricia Arquette started by honoring her fellow nominees when taking the stage to accept her Golden Globe win. She thanked in particular Meryl Streep, for “for giving me a hug, I hope your DNA transferred to me.”

“Ethan Hawke, the amazing Ethan Hawke,” she continued to audience applause. “Ellar Coltrane, Lorelei Linklater, I love you all. And our visionary director, Richard Linklater, thank you for letting me a part of something that’s so human, so simple and groundbreaking in the history of cinema. You placed in my hands the part of Olivia, an under-appreciated single mother, thank you for shining a light on this woman and the millions of women like her and for allowing me to honor my own mother with this beautiful character.”

Arquette even went so far as to compare her late father and Ethan Hawke.

“To my parents Louis and Marty, who are no longer with us, you were very inspirational to me on this whole project and Ethan reminded me so much of my own father,” she said.

And she thanked those who stood by her throughout thick and thin, outside of the acting world.

She said thank you to “friends who watched my kids while I was trying to build a career as a 20-year-old single mother. To my man, Eric White, happy anniversary…and especially to my kids who I love and respect with all my heart. My favorite role in my whole life has been being your mom.”

Boyhood is an American coming of age drama. The film was shot intermittently over a 12-year period, starting in May of 2002 and ending in October of 2013. It shows the growth of a young boy and his older sister into adulthood. Patricia Arquette plays the role of their single mother, Olivia Evans, in the film.

Did you see Patricia Arquette receive her Golden Globe award on Sunday? Do you agree with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for giving her the award or do you believe Jessica Chastain, Keira Knightley, Emma Stone, or Meryl Streep may have been more deserving?

  • Keira Knightley Earns Rave Reviews For “The Imitation Game”

Keira Knightley is earning wonderful reviews for her turn in The Imitation Game, a film about 1950’s codebreaker Alan Turing, and is being called everything from “charming” to “miles better” than she has been in a while, although she did earn good reviews for her music-themed film Begin Again.

The British actress stars alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in the film, which explores Turing’s attempts to break the Germans’ Enigma Code during World War II.

Despite the glowing reviews from so many critics, some aren’t too thrilled with the way the movie depicts certain events, and Christian Caryl of the New York Review Blog even called some scenes “monstrous hogwash” just as Oscar voting begins.

The multi-talented Knightley showed off her singing voice in Begin Again, which co-starred Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine and was released over the summer. However, she says she was disappointed in the way she sounded.

“I’m really disappointed that Adele’s voice doesn’t come out! I think that’s what I was hoping the whole way through that suddenly Shirley Bassey, one of those big [voices would emerge] – so I’m just like, ‘OK!’” she said.

Knightley, who is married to Klaxons singer James Righton, says her husband tried to help her out when it came time to learn guitar and vocals for the film, but it was slow going.

“He did try and teach me to play the guitar – which didn’t work very well. The thing about my husband is he’s the loveliest person in the world so he’s just like, ‘Well done’,” she said.

  • Anne Hathaway Receives Apology From Her Doppelgänger Keira Knightley

Anne Hathaway received an apology from Keira Knightley over the weekend after the Pirates of the Caribbean star was mistaken for her apparent doppelgänger, Hathaway.

Knightley, 29, told the Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph that a fan, believing she was Anne Hathaway, asked for and was denied a photo with Anne/Keira. The fan then accused Knightley of being rude.

“I think I have to apologize to Anne Hathaway because the woman [at the airport] thought I was being really rude as Anne Hathaway not giving her a picture as Anne Hathaway, but I was really only saying that I promised I wasn’t Anne Hathaway, which I am not,” she said.

The mama-to-be said she is often confused for other A-list actresses.

“Actually it’s the first Anne Hathaway I have had,” Knightley said. “Generally, I get [mistaken] a lot [for] Rachel Weisz and Natalie Portman.”

Meanwhile, Knightley, who is expecting her first child this spring, told Vogue in 2012 that being a stay-at-home mom will notnecessarily be a part of her future when the baby arrives.

“I’m glad that the subject is coming up again,” she said at the time, referring to the debate of whether women can successfully balance career with motherhood. “I remember doing interviews, and people would ask, as if it was a joke, ‘So you mean you are a feminist?’ As though feminism couldn’t be discussed unless we were making fun of it. I don’t want to deny my femininity. But would I want to be a stay-at-home mother? No. On the other hand, you should be allowed to do that, as should men, without being sneered at.”

  • Sienna Miller Says Friend Keira Knightley Will Be An ‘Amazing’ Mother

Sienna Miller says her friend, Keira Knightley, will be a great mother.

The 32-year-old actress shared her thoughts to Page Six at the premiere of her new film, American Sniper.

Knightley, 29, and husband James Righton, who were married in May 2013, revealed they are expecting their first child earlier this week.

“We’ve spoken a lot and I know she will be amazing,” Miller told the newspaper. “She doesn’t need any advice. She will be perfect.”

Miller knows a bit about what it takes to be a great mom. She and boyfriend, Klaxons star Tom Sturridge, welcomed their own beautiful daughter, Marlowe Ottoline, in July 2012.

In the January edition of Vogue, Miller said she couldn’t imagine life without her little girl.

“I was overwhelmed by how normal it felt,” she said. “It was like, ‘There you are — that’s what I’ve been missing.’ Like we’re both in on something only we know. An amazing sense of being complicit with a little being.”

Miller currently stars with Bradley Cooper in American Sniper, and will next appear in Mississippi Grind with Ryan Reynolds.

Knightley will portray Jan Hall in Everest in 2015.

  • Keira Knightley, James Righton Expecting First Child

Keira Knightley and her husband James Righton are expecting their first baby. The actress, who learned of a Golden Globe and SAG nomination for her role in The Imitation Game in just the last day or so, has been rumored to be expecting, but the pregnancy was only confirmed today. Neither Knightley nor Righton has spoken publicly about their impending parenthood status, but major news outlets are saying it’s so.

It was when Keira Knightley gave up her penchant for wearing form-fitting clothing–trading that style in for loose-fitting attire–that rumors about her being pregnant started circulating. The New York Post reports she is more than three months along.

Knightley and Righton got married in Mazan, France back in May of 2013, after dating for about two years. He is the keyboardist and a co-vocalist for the Klaxons. In addition to The Imitation Game, for which she received nominations for her portrayal of Joan Clarke, Keira Knightley has starred in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Pride and Prejudice, Anna Karenina, Begin Again, and Laggies.

It’s uncertain whether Knightley will stay home with her baby once he or she is born, or return to work shortly after the birth. In 2012, she told Vogue that being a stay-at-home mom simply wasn’t her thing.

“I’m glad that the subject is coming up again,” she said at the time, referring to the ages-old debate over whether women can successfully–and happily–do both.

Sometimes mothers change their minds about said stance once they are pregnant or see their new baby’s precious little face. As an actress, however, Keira Knightley needn’t worry about whether she will stay home or work–or both. She likely has the means to hire a nanny to watch her baby either on set or in her home, while she returns to either the stage or the big screen.

Congratulations to both Keira Knightley and James Righton on their very exciting news.

  • Keira Knightley Defends Topless Photo Shoot

Back in August, actress Keira Knightley was photographed by Patrick Demarcherlier for Interview magazine. It was revealed that the actress agreed to do the photo shoot on one condition – the photos should not be retouched or altered with Photoshop in any way. Knightley revealed that this was a protest against the unrealistic expectations placed on women, especially celebrities.

In an interview with The Times, Knightley talked about the shoot and her reasons behind doing it. “I’ve had my body manipulated so many different times for so many different reasons, whether it’s paparazzi photographers or for film posters,” said the 29-year-old Knightley. “That (shoot) was one of the ones where I said: ‘OK, I’m fine doing the topless shot so long as you don’t make them any bigger or retouch.’ Because it does feel important to say it really doesn’t matter what shape you are.”

One of the instances where Knightley’s image was manipulated was back in 2004 when promotional materials for the film King Arthur were released. Her chest was digitally enlarged for the poster, despite the star claiming that she had actually lost her bosom during the training to prepare for the role.

Knightley told The Times, “I think women’s bodies are a battleground and photography is partly to blame. It’s much easier to take a picture of somebody without a shape; it simply is. Whereas actually you need tremendous skill to be able get a woman’s shape and make it look like it does in life, which is always beautiful. But our society is so photographic now, it becomes more difficult to see all of those different varieties of shape.”

On November 8, Knightley made her first appearance since defending the topless photos. She attended the Governor’s Awards where she was promoting her film The Imitation Game which also stars Benedict Cumberbatch.

  • Keira Knightley on Why She Decided to Pose Topless

Keira Knightley says that her decision to pose topless in a recent photo shoot was to protest against “unrealistic expectations that are placed on women, especially those in the public eye.”

The British actress was photographed for Interview magazine in August by famed photographer Patrick Demarcherlier.

In an interview with The Times of London, Knightley explained her reasons for taking her top off for the shoot.

“I’ve had my body manipulated so many different times for so many different reasons, whether it’s paparazzi photographers or for film posters,” she said.

“That [shoot] was one of the ones where I said: ‘OK, I’m fine doing the topless shot so long as you don’t make them any bigger or retouch.’ Because it does feel important to say it really doesn’t matter what shape you are,” explained Knightley, who was angry several years ago when her bosom was digitally enlarged for the poster of King Arthur.

Knightley has posed nude or semi-nude in the past. In 2006, she posed naked for the cover of Vanity Fair with Scarlett Johansson. Fashion designer Tom Ford was also included in the photo fully-clothed. Knightley said the threesome wanted to emphasis conflicting demands on men and women’s sexuality.

“I think women’s bodies are a battleground and photography is partly to blame,” she told The Times. “It’s much easier to take a picture of somebody without a shape; it simply is. Whereas actually you need tremendous skill to be able get a woman’s shape and make it look like it does in life, which is always beautiful. But our society is so photographic now, it becomes more difficult to see all of those different varieties of shape.”

Knightley also addressed the difficulty women face as they age.

“It’s really desperate, the image we have of women, and when women became invisible or when you hear someone say, ‘She’s let herself go,’ whatever the f— that means. What — because she’s got grey hair? I do think it’s something that needs to be addressed,” she said.

  • Keira Knightley Goes Topless With One Rule: No Airbrushing

Keira Knightley was recently featured in a photo spread in Interview Magazine. The piece was actually about photographer Patrick Demarchelier. In the article, Knightley interviews the photographer. She asks questions about digital versus film photography, what cameras he likes, etc.

But in the photo spread, Knightley herself is featured. In one shot of the spread, she is topless.

Knightley recently spoke to the Times of London about the shoot and about her one rule for posing topless.

“I’ve had my body manipulated so many times for so many different reasons, whether it’s paparazzi photographers or for film posters. And that [shoot] was one of the ones where I said, ‘OK, I’m fine doing the topless shot so long as you don’t make them any bigger or retouch.’ Because it does feel important to say, ‘It really doesn’t matter what shape you are.’”

Knightley explained that, although she loves photography, she is concerned that it is so difficult to take a photograph that conveys a woman’s natural beauty that retouching has become too prevalent.

“I think women’s bodies are a battleground and photography is partly to blame. It’s much easier to take a picture of somebody without a shape; it simply is. Whereas you need tremendous skill to be able to get a woman’s shape and make it look like it does in life, which is always beautiful.”

Knightley is very critical of the standards of beauty in today’s society and how aging is so difficult for women because of the comments thrown their way.

“It’s really desperate, the image we have of women, and when women became invisible or when you hear someone say, ‘She’s let herself go,’ whatever the f— that means. What — because she’s got grey hair? I do think it’s something that needs to be addressed.”
