    Perry manages to survive a plane crash in the video and, after witnessing her boyfriend get eaten by a tiger, finds ways to both thrive and still be fashionable on a deserted island. Of course, she manages to be sexy at the same time, turning herself into a jungle girl who bathes with the help of an elephant and crafting herself a new outfit out of leaves and flowers.

    Perry won over the MTV VMAs crowd last month with a performance of “Roar” under the Brooklyn Bridge, on a stage made to set up a boxing ring. As the first single off her new album “Prism”, the catchy song is everywhere these days and has been the talk of Twitter.

    Katy Perry brought down the house last night at the MTV Video Music Awards, and although Miley Cyrus is hogging most of the spotlight today plenty of people are talking about Perry’s Brooklyn Bridge performance, which included synchronized jump-roping and a gold-plated boxing theme.

    Perry debuted a live performance of “Roar“, the first single off her new album “Prism”, and in typical Katy fashion went all out in the boxing motif. There was a “coach” giving her a pep talk beforehand, a stage set up like the ring, and a slew of backup dancers all dressed in warmup gear. The pop singer recently did away with her old candy-colored image for good–burning her iconic blue wig in the process–and is moving on to bigger things. According to Twitter, the new image looks good on her.

  • Katy Perry Collaborates With John Mayer, Teases New Single

    Katy Perry is moving on from her candy-colored persona; gone are the lollipops, the starlight mint-covered stage getups, the rainbow hued-wigs. But that doesn’t mean she’s given up everything she once loved. The 28-year old singer still adores cats, as is evident in the teaser for her upcoming single, “Roar”. The new album, Prism, will hit stores August 12th.

    Perry has been a busy bee lately, recording a song called “Who You Love” with beau John Mayer, which will be included on his album Paradise Valley. Mayer has said that Katy helped him recover after he had surgery last August to repair a granuloma in his throat.

    “She was so patient,” he said, adding that she was his voice when he literally couldn’t speak. The two have been an on-again off-again couple since around this time last year.

    The new teaser trailer for “Roar” is available to watch now, and Perry just announced the release of the single cover for the song, which features the singer sporting a very ’80s style satin jacket with a tiger on the back.

  • Lady Gaga Takes Top Spot On Forbes Under-30 List

    Lady Gaga recently underwent hip surgery to repair a labral tear, most likely caused by her intense dance schedule. It is that work ethic that helped her top this year’s Forbes list of the top earners under the age of 30.

    Forbes estimates that Gaga made around $80 million in the period between June 2012 and June 2013. The estimate does not include taxes, management deductions, and other fees associated with the insanely wealthy. However, that figure remains impressive due to the fact that she was unable to finish her sold-out tour due to the aforementioned injury. Gaga was also number two on the Forbes Celebrity 100 list.

    Gaga joins six other women in the list’s top ten including Taylor Swift in third place and Rihanna in fourth. Those two are thought to have made $55 and $43 million respectively.

    The Y-Chromosome is also represented on the list, although rather sparsely. Teenage money machine Justin Bieber landed the number two slot with an estimated income of $58 million. The other two young men on the list were Actor Taylor Lautner and musician Calvin Harris, who is in his last year of eligibility at age 29.

    The rest of the top ten is rounded out by Kristen Stewart of Twilight fame, Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence, pop queen Katy Perry, and the talented Adele, whose earning were estimated at $30 million.

    The running themes of the list are clearly music and acting. A whopping seven of the top ten are musicians while the remaining three are actors. So for those of you out there with aspirations of seeing your children on the Forbes list in the future, invest in either acting or piano lessons.

    A musician claiming to take inspiration from Freddie Mercury and Queen is nothing new. Aspiring rock stars have been channeling the charismatic frontman for decades, and every kid who picks up a guitar learns a Brian May riff at some point. So learning that Katy Perry drew on the band’s body of work for a project is not surprising, until you learn what type of project.

    Perry borrowed the title of the band’s 1974 hit “Killer Queen” for her new fragrance, which is set to be released next month. The fragrance will be the third to bear Perry’s name, following “Purr” and “Meow”.

    In abandoning the cat theme of her previous products, Perry sought to evoke the spirit of the woman being described in Mercury’s lyrics, a woman who she says she feels she is on her way to becoming.

    “Freddie Mercury painted the lyrics of this woman who I wanted to be. She seemed very powerful, and she captivated a room when she walked in. I named my company Killer Queen after those lyrics. I feel like, after all this time, it was appropriate to use that name in association with something I did. I feel like I’m falling, finally, into that woman Freddie painted.”

    The fragrance, which was designed by Internation Flavors and Fragrances, reportedly took over 30 attempts to reach its final form. Whether or not that hard work will pay off will have to wait until “Killer Queen” is released.

    When Perry isn’t putting out new scents she is still performing to sold out arenas, including an upcoming headlining spot at the iHeart Music Festival at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, where she will perform alongside such pop heavyweights as Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, and Elton John. Perhaps she will look to John’s catalogue for her next fragrance and girls everywhere will be spritzing on “Island Girl” before heading to the club.

    Katy Perry and comedian Russel Brand used to be quite the item while they were married. The couple split up in 2012, however, and details about the divorce are still coming out.

    In an interview with Vogue, Perry said that Brand asked for a divorce via a text message:

    “I was in love with him when I married him, [but] let’s just say I haven’t heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011,”

    If that sounds rough, it was for the pop star. Perry said that she initially shouldered some of the blame for the divorce, but she later came to the realization that it wasn’t because of her. Her reasoning was that the divorce was beyond her and that she needed to put it behind her.

    Interestingly enough, Perry says that she only stopped blaming herself after she found out the real truth behind the divorce. She won’t disclose what that truth is, however, as she is opting instead to save it for a “rainy day.”

    The Rolling Stones are still touring and still releasing albums. Meanwhile, the band has managed to stay relevant by using social media to keep its fans engaged and attracting some of the hottest new music stars in the business.

    This weekend, The Rolling Stones rocked the MGM Grand in Las Vegas with a sold-out crowd. The band’s special guest of the night was none other than pop star Katy Perry, who sang a duet with Mick Jagger. The song the two sang – “Beast of Burden” – was chosen by fans using the Rolling Stones’ official mobile app.

    Perry was obviously thrilled to sing and dance with the legendary band. She tweeted out her thanks to The Rolling Stones on Sunday, complete with pictures:

    Mayer spoke about the couple’s relationship on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. He related that the relationship was private throughout and that he would prefer to keep it that way even now. During the interview Mayer seemed at ease

    “Coupling is a tricky thing,” said Mayer.

    Mayer went on to talk about his new, relaxed life in Montana. He also touches on his love of scotch, and how he has had to cut down on the beverage now that his body can’t “just shake everything off” any longer.

  • John Mayer, Katy Perry Relationship Getting Serious

    John Mayer may seem like a serial heartbreaker from all the headlines bearing his name in recent years, but it seems like he might be settling down with Katy Perry now that the two have reconciled.

    The couple are having some serious dates, including showing up to watch President Obama’s inauguration on Monday and attending the Inaugural Concert over the weekend, where Perry performed.

    “They are seriously in love and exclusive,” a “source” told Us Weekly.

    Mayer, who has formerly romanced fellow musicians Jessica Simpson and Taylor Swift, has at least one song written about him and his scandalous ways. Swift, who infamously documents her love life in her music, allegedly wrote “Dear John” about their relationship. Mayer has said he was hurt by the song, but Swift rolls her eyes at that.

    “I take these songs and these people who inspire these songs on a case-by-case basis,” she told The Daily Beast. “If there were someone who was a good person, I’m not going to write something bad about them. But if they handle a situation in a way that really messed up my life for a while, that’s what I’m going to write about.”

    Perry was most recently linked to comedian Russell Brand, but the couple went through a painful divorce in 2011.

    Katy Perry is among a few high-profile musicians lending their support to President Obama, and in the week leading up to election day several voters were surprised by concerts given at re-election rallies. But the real hit wasn’t Perry’s music, it was her choice of skintight rubber outfits bearing ballots and pro-Obama sentiments.

    One outfit was a white mini-dress with her ballot choice on the front; the other, a similarly cut blue number with “Forward” emblazoned down the side with Obama’s campaign logo. Of course, Perry is well-known for her wild stage outfits, but these dresses are more about a cause than spectacle.

    “Don’t wait; go tomorrow,” she told supporters of voting. “How many of you guys are 18 in here? Let’s do this tomorrow.”

    Perry says the most important issue for her in this election is equal rights. She was joined at the rallies by Bruce Springsteen and former president Bill Clinton, who has been supportive of President Obama despite early criticism of his policies four years ago. After losing his voice over the weekend in Virginia, he told the audience, “I give my voice in the service of my president.”

In case you haven’t heard — and I’m almost positive that you have — Brand and singer Katy Perry’s marriage recently came to a close, and neither celebrity is wasting any time finding a suitable follow-up. Enter Isabella, a former CAA talent agent who has been linked to “The Hangover” star Bradley Cooper.

    According to US Weekly, an industry insider has stated the couple have been seeing one another for a few weeks, and that Brand is clearly interested in pursuing a relationship with Brewster. I wonder if the source said the same thing about Oriela Medellin and Nikolett Barabas, who were rumored to be dating the “Get Her to the Greek” star earlier this year? I suppose we’ll have to wait and see if this is the real thing or not. Fingers crossed.

    “She’s cute,” the insider remarked. “She is all over him and Russell loves it.”

    If you’re starting to feel sorry for poor Katy Perry, I wouldn’t waste much of your time on such misplaced emotions. Perry is apparently doing fine on her own. After dating Florence + The Machine guitarist Robert Ackroyd for a brief period, the “Fireworks” songstress says she’s really not in the market for anyone at the moment. Good for her.

    Perry took the outdoor stage in front of a huge crowd wearing one of her custom-made outfits, which included a film-reel bra and colorful hot pants. She finished off the look with bright, sparkly jewelry and purple hair.

    The concert shut down Hollywood Blvd. as thousands of fans gathered to see the spectacle.

    Songstress Katy Perry, who has managed to win over the hearts of millions with her love of candy-colored hair, makeup, and clothes, often puts heartfelt lyrics to a catchy, bubblegum beat, using her danceable music to deal with larger issues. That facade has never been as evident as it is in her new movie, “Katy Perry: Part Of Me”, which debuts on July 15th.

    The film is part documentary, part concert tour, and the cameras were rolling when news broke around the world that her marriage to comedian and actor Russell Brand was over. Her grueling schedule meant she had to spend increasing amounts of time away from Brand while they were married, even though she told her management team that the longest she wanted to be away from him was two weeks.     Katy Perry is well-known for her candy-colored hair and bright, sparkly outfits that match her bubblegum pop songs perfectly. But her latest video–for the single “Wide Awake”–takes a bit of a darker turn as she explores the question “What if I knew then what I know now?”

    The video starts off where the video for “California Gurls” ended, with Perry on a pink cloud of cotton-candy and sporting violet hair. But it quickly delves into deeper territory, with visuals that look like something out of a Tim Burton film and Perry being led by a mysterious little girl who helps her battle foes through a Labyrinthian maze, including two bull-headed men and a Prince Charming-type guy who isn’t all that he seems to be.

    One doesn’t have to look too hard to see the hidden meaning in the video or the song, as the past two years have been an extreme whirlwind for Perry. Not only has she rocketed from mere success to superstardom with her album Teenage Dream, she also got married and divorced from bad-boy British actor Russell Brand. Now, with “Wide Awake”, she seems to be saying she’s grown up a lot in a very short time. She’s also closing the book–literally–on the Teenage Dream era, as this is the last single that will be released from it.

    The video has an Alice In Wonderland theme to it, complete with dramatic sets and the vivid colors Perry is famous for. In the end, it seems she comes to terms with the way her life has turned out and is ready to move on to the next chapter.

    A new lyric video for Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake”, features lyrics and Katy Perry trivia popping up in Facebook Timeline. The song was debuted this past Sunday at the Billboard Music Awards.

    The video cronicles Katy Perry’s own timeline, starting with the release of Teenage Dream on May 10th, 2010. It continues with the milestones in her career interspersed with Wide Awake lyrics that pop up in non-Facebook font.

    A representative of Perry’s label, EMI/Capitol Music Group, released a statement to Mashable explaining that they got permission from Facebook to feature the Timeline.

    Facebook approved us using the timeline layout, and they actually just featured it on a few of their pages, including Celebs on Facebook and Music on Facebook.

    We thought Facebook timeline was as an elegant way to celebrate the past couple of years, while displaying the lyrics to the last song in the Teenage Dream chapter. During this time, Katy’s star has grown rapidly, and her Facebook community is a reflection of that, with more than 43 Million likes, making her the seventh-most-popular musician on the social network.

    Katy Perry’s career grew at a time that she could have posted all of her accomplishments on Facebook, and fan pages have. The official fan page posted the video, so now you can watch the video timeline on the real timeline.

    There is also another Facebook music video out there. A really terrible one thanking Facebook for existing.

    At least Katy Perry didn’t actually talk to Facebook in her video.

  • Katy Perry: Wide Awake Video Makes Use of the Facebook Timeline

    Katy Perry, who debuted her latest single “Wide Awake” on the 2012 Billboard Music Awards show last Sunday, has released an animated clip for the song, one that’s structured to look just like the Facebook Timeline. Regardless of whether or not you like Perry’s music or the aforementioned social networking site’s new layout, you have to admit that the two work extraordinarily well together. If nothing else, it makes for an engaging video.

    “Facebook approved us using the Timeline layout and they actually just featured it on a few of their pages including Celebs on Facebook and Music on Facebook,” a representative from EMI/Capitol Music Group told Mashable.

    The video opens with the release of her album “Teenage Dream”, an event which is positioned at the very bottom of the scrolling timeline. As the song progresses, the singer’s accomplishments are chronicled in-between on-screen lyrics that appear as the words are tumbling out of her mouth. In fact, about a minute-and-a-half into the song, you can see a picture of Perry with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. How’s that for synergy?

    “Wide Awake” will appear in the singer’s upcoming motion picture “Katy Perry: Part of Me”, a cinematic experience that will be presented in 3D.   • Katy Perry Splits from Rob Ackroyd: Twitter Reacts

    Katy Perry’s romantic situation continues to stay rocky. After famously parting ways with comedian Russell Brand, Perry found solace in the arms of Florence + The Machine guitarist Rob Ackroyd. Unfortunately, a month of courtship is about all they could muster, as the couple have recently decided to call it quits. Which, of course, means that everyone with a Katy Perry infatuation is now a potential love interest. Wow, that actually sounds kind of creepy.

    According to CTV News, Perry and Ackroyd — who is not Dan Ackroyd’s son, by the way — have decided not to pursue a meaningful relationship due to their complicated schedules. Since Perry’s on the road in one section of the world while Ackroyd is doing his thing with Florence + The Machine in another, committing to anything long term just isn’t in the cards at the moment.

    “The main thing which led to her split with Russell was spending the majority of her marriage to him on tour and she said dating Rob felt like being with ­Russell all over again,” a source revealed. “It’s a shame as they both liked each other but Katy wants to be able to have a relationship with someone she isn’t constantly having to work out what time zone they’re in.”

    In other Perry news, the singer recently performed at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards, where she took a page from Pink’s playbook and spun wildly around the stage. Impressively, Perry managed to sing live while all of these theatrics were taking place. Impressive? Well, kind of.

    Candy-colored hair and sugary pop are what Katy Perry is best known for, but she’s been in headlines recently for something much darker; her divorce from wild man-child Russell Brand. While the tabloids have gone mad speculating on every detail of the separation, Perry has chosen to focus on her music, garnering praise and attention for the video for her single “Part Of Me”, in which she underwent a hardcore transformation.

    Electronic Arts (EA) announced today that a version of The Sims 3 inspired by pop singer Katy Perry will be released this June. In “The Sims 3 Katy Perry’s Sweet Treats” players will be able to “enhance” their game with “candylicious” items including furniture, clothing, and hairstyles. EA wants you to turn your Sims neighborhoods into “Candyfornia.”

    “I’m delighted to bring you more with The Sims 3 Sweet Treats,” said Perry. “I love some of the accessories so much that I am going to get some of them made in real life! It’s one of my small life goals to sit on a banana split couch.”

    I must stress that this is not a late April fool’s joke. Apparently, Katy Perry’s version of “The Sims” is a game where everything Sims interact with is made of pink candy or ice cream. Also, aside from collaborating with EA on the absurd candy motif, Perry also recorded a “Sims” version of her song ‘Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)’. The song will be in “Similish,” the official language of “The Sims”. “‘Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)’ is a really fun song to sing along to in any language, so I thought why not in Simlish?” said Perry.

    Though obviously aimed at a very young demographic, “The Sims 3 Katy Perry’s Sweet Treats” will still carry “The Sims 3” rating of “T” for Teen. The game is currently avaliable for pre-order at the sims website. Come this summer, you too could be watching your Sims frolic in the “Bonbon Lawn Park” and bask in the “Cake Pleasure Dome.”

    eBay is teaming up with various celebrities to build a charity auction destination that harnesses the power of celeb culture and uses it for good.

    You can already see evidence of our fascination with celebrities by performing a quick eBay search. Whether it’s something basic like a guitar pick autographed by Eric Clapton or something a little more extreme like a T-shirt worn by a Jonas brother – eBay has become a destination for people looking to buy and sell items that have been touched by celebrity in some way.

    And celebrity.ebay.com is tapping into that potential for a good cause.

    The new site, which launched on Monday, provides a platform for celebrity items or celebrity experiences to be auctioned – with the proceeds going to the particular celeb’s charity of choice.

    For instance, one current auction with 9 days remaining is for the chance to hang out with Brad Pitt for a night. Right now, the current bid is $10,000. All of the money generated from the auction will go to Pitt’s cause, the Make It Right Foundation – a program that builds homes for New Orleans residents displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

    Another example is with Katy Perry, whose sequined red dress will go up for auction on November 9th. All proceeds for that will benefit the American Red Cross.

    As of launch day, there are 13 celebrities involved in the project inlcuding NASCAR’s Jimmie Johnson, famous actor Robert Duvall, boxer Vladimir Klitschko and NFL athlete Troy Polamalu.

    As you can see, each celeb has their own page that includes information on their charity, as well as any current auctions taking place. The page also suggests other eBay searches based on the celebs’ interests and links to associated eBay items.

    So even though eBay isn’t taking a portion of the proceeds, they will benefit from the new initiative.

    “We know that our customers have been coming to eBay specifically to look for and connect with their favorite charities and celebrities,” says eBay CMO Richelle Parham. “For many years, the eBay platform has been the choice for celebrities who are looking to raise funds for their charities.”

    Celeb-crazy fans will pay an unbelievable amount of money to own items that bring them closer to the culture – no matter what the cause. So why not benefit the less fortunate is the process?
