  • Sara Bareilles Says Katy Perry Controversy Was Good For Her Song

When Katy Perry released her hit single Roar back in August, fans immediately noticed a resemblance to Sara Bareilles’ single Brave. While many artists may have been upset by the similarities, Bareilles says that the comparison to Perry was “good for her song.”

“I mean, I can’t say that I think that they don’t sound similar,” Bareilles told CBS Sunday Morning. “I’ve known Katy a really long time and we’re friends. And at the end of the day, it was really only good for my song. So, thank you, Katy Perry for that!”

During an interview on Chelsea Lately , Bareilles described the uproar about the similar songs as “misguided energy.” She said she felt that “people were trying to create conflict and rivalry and anger where there really wasn’t.”

Bareilles revealed that Brave was inspired by one of her close gay friends that was afraid to come out. “It just felt like I was watching the song take flight and take on a life of its own,” she explained. “It was becoming something bigger than it had even been intended to be. And that’s always – oh my gosh, what an amazing hope for something you create.”

Brave is off of Bareilles’ newest album The Blessed Unrest, which received a nomination at the Grammy Awards for Album of the Year.

“I was trying to text my family and my hands were shaking,” she said of her reaction to the nomination. “It was just this moment of sheer joy. It made me look back at the record itself, which was such a labor of love and a lot of pain as well. It was a really hard record to make. And it was the product of a tough year in my life.”

Check out both videos below. What do you think about the comparison? Leave your comments below.

  • Sara Bareilles Disses Katy Perry, Sort Of

Sara Bareilles Disses Katy Perry, Sort Of

Today on “CBS Sunday Morning” singer, songwriter Sara Bareilles spoke about the similarities between her song “Brave,” and Katy Perry’s “Roar,” and although she’s been chummy with Perry for quite some time, she can’t help but notice that the songs do sound the same.

“I can’t say that I think that they don’t sound similar,” she said. “I’ve known Katy a really long time, and we’re friends.” Additionally, Bareilles said the success of “Roar” has only helped her, and she’s glad that people seem to be talking about her song even more these days. “Roar” has “only really [been] good for my song,” she said. “So thank you Katy Perry for that.”

But it wasn’t Perry who should take full credit for “Brave,” being such a success. Although Bareilles initially wrote the song when a friend was thinking about coming out, it’s been adopted as a motivational tune by people battling cancer. In fact, the 34-year old singer was accompanied by 4-year old cancer patient Joshua Chambers last month, and she said she’s thrilled to have the song take on a whole new purpose.

“I just felt like I was watching the song take flight and take on a life of its own,” she said happily. “It was becoming something bigger than it had even intended to be, and that’s always, oh my gosh, what amazing hope for something you create.”

Bareilles’ latest album “The Blessed Unrest” recently earned her a Grammy nomination and she said that most of her songs come from personal experience, which she admits might be a little narcissistic, but that’s just the way she writes.

When the song “Brave” was first released it reached number 61 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and when Perry’s Roar came out, “Brave” jumped to number 31, which only shows that a lot of people associate the two songs together.

  • Britney Spears Opens Vegas Show, Did She Lip-Sync?

Britney Spears opened her debut show in Vegas this weekend, performing her first of about 100 concerts in the coming two years. But did Britney really perform? Some believe she may have been lip-syncing, even though her manager and a casino executive insist she is performing live.

Spears was indeed wearing a microphone throughout her show, but sources feel she wasn’t singing live–even during slow songs like Perfume, during which she sat down on stage.

“Piece of Me,” which is the name of Britney Spears’ Las Vegas show, will play at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino for the next two years. Lasting less than 90 minutes, it featured (at least during her first show) a taste of old-school Vegas entertainment along with the heavier beats of today’s music. The show reportedly has lots going on to distract those who might not have questioned whether or not she was actually singing while on stage.

Opening night certainly drew an A-List crowd. Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry were stationed front and center by the stage.

Only time will tell if Britney Spears has what it takes to keep fans entertained for a two-year run in Vegas. She’s definitely no Elton John or Celine Dion, but there’s something about Britney that everyone seems to love. Her dancing is second to none–and when that’s combined with catchy tunes and her incredibly sexy, dazzling costumes–it just might keep Las Vegas talking for a while to come.

  • Katy Perry And John Mayer’s Sexy Cover Photo

Katy Perry and her boyfriend John Mayer posed together for a sensual black-and-white which will serve as the cover art for their collaboration “Who You Love,” which will be on the song list of Mayer’s album entitled Paradise Valley.

The photo depicts a more demure John Mayer looking downward (probably to conceal his always-red eyes) and sitting below Perry with his fingers on the guitar strings. Perry’s arm is possessively but gracefully placed on his shoulder as she lies on a couch draped in a dark, velvet gown.

Hopefully all of the attempted sincerity and successful sex appeal of the photo shoot is good enough to make you wonder what it’s all for, and what the song “Who You Love” is all about.  With all this promo, the song had better be worth the listener’s while.

According to E! News, Mayer described the song as this:

“Who You Love” is a sweet melody that tells the story of opening up your heart and allowing yourself to fully love the person in your life—or specifically to ‘love who you love, who you love’”… whatever in the world of tangled-up metaphors that is supposed to mean.

But you shouldn’t expect much clarity from either of the two songbirds who have heart badges stitched all over their sleeves. Mayer continued to express his excitement about the song in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel:

“It was a really great experience and the song is one of these like old FM ‘70s and ‘80s sort of like duets. And I listened back to it; it’s, like, really convincing. And I watched it get made and I am still taken aback.”

So, um, basically all curious fans will just have to listen to the song in order to decipher the deep, heart-felt emotions that these love-struck crooners have poured into their music. If you need to ease your musical curiosity as well as any confusion that John Mayer has caused you, take a listen to “Who You Love” below.

  • Olivia Wise, Who Covered Katy Perry’s “Roar,” Dies

Olivia Wise, the girl known for her cover of Katy Perry’s hit single, Roar, passed away on Monday, November 25, leaving thousands of fans and her family mourning a great loss.

“She died peacefully in her home surrounded by the extraordinary love of her family,” a family statement sent to CNN said.

Olivia was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of brain cancer in January 2012. She took the news that she had an inoperable brain tumor very well and was determined to not let it kill her spirit.

“Every day, she wished for a cure, and rarely succumbed to negative thoughts,” Olivia’s mom said. “To tell the truth, her diagnosis didn’t change her personality. It only enhanced it. She took the news in a mature, reasonable, responsible way. … Even in the most difficult moments, she managed to bring laughter and friendship to all that were caring for her.”

In September, after learning that there were no more treatments available, Olivia had a wish to record Roar in a professional studio. Her wish came true and she later posted the video to YouTube. The video shows her sitting in a chair singing the lyrics to the song flawlessly. Her cover instantly went viral, and as of today, has 1,108,557 views.

Once Perry learned of the video, she sent a message to Olivia via YouTube. “I was very moved and you sounded great,” Perry said. “I love you. A lot of people love you and that’s why your video got to me. It moved everybody that saw it.” Perry ended her video saying, “Keep roaring!”

The Liv Wise Fund Foundations has raised $109,719 so far for brain cancer research. You can make donations to The Liv Wise Fund on Olivia’s tribute page. Olivia’s cover of the song is also available on iTunes and all proceeds will go to brain cancer research as well.

  • Katy Perry AMAs Performance Dubbed as Racist?

All artists push the envelope of what society considers acceptable at least one time or another in their career. Now, singer Katy Perry is making headlines for doing just that after her controversial performance at the American Music Awards. The platinum-selling singer performed her latest single, “Unconditionally,” from her album Prism, which as released Oct. 18.

While the song itself has become quite popular, skyrocketing to the Top 10 on the Billboard Pop chart, last night’s performance may have slightly snubbed the song. Perry, who was also the opening act for the AMAs, chose to dress as a geisha for the performance. Adorned in a pink kimono with distinctive and bold eye make-up, the singer definitely resembled the likes of a traditional geisha. She even tailored her choreographed routine to include traditional dance associated with the custom.

For those who aren’t fully aware of what the title geisha is, here the gist: A geisha is categorized as a traditional Japanese female entertainer. They typically serve as a hostess for parties or events, and possess skills of various Japanese performing arts. Of course, the arts include classical music, along with dance and games.

    (image)

However, that’s exactly the crux of the problem. The 29-year-old singer isn’t quite Japanese, and she isn’t exactly the type of singer who falls into the classical category. So, her geisha attire basically rubbed a lot of fans the wrong way. In a nutshell, some found it downright disrespectful and racist. Although, its safe to say that most likely wasn’t her intent, some have accused the “Fireworks” singer of ‘appropriating Asian culture,’ and ‘mocking custom,’ reports Mirror UK.

A number of fans took to Twitter under the AMA hash-tag to express their disdain for the ‘Roar’ singer’s performance. Unfortunately, the remarks were quite harsh toward Perry.

Although Perry tweeted fans forewarning them that she’d be ‘taking them on a trip,’ she mostly like didn’t see her actions as offensive. Perry recently stated that she had some familiarity with the culture and customs after her family gave shelter to Japanese lodgers when she was younger. However, some fans, bloggers and critics collectively feel that still wasn’t enough to justify her performance.

Perry’s camp hasn’t responded to the allegations as of yet.

  • Katy Perry Sparks Debate With Geisha Costume at AMAs

Katy Perry is making headlines again, this time for her attire at Sunday night’s AMAs. The starlet opened the awards ceremony performing her latest single, “Unconditionally,” and wearing a traditional Geisha-inspired dress.

Now, Perry has sparked debate with the traditional Japanese Geisha costume in which she appeared. Perry is no stranger to controversy and her love for bizarre costumes. She has sported a blue bob haircut in recent years, and appeared in a dress designed to look like candy during her California Dreams tour.

According to various sources, Perry stated that she wanted to really push the envelope with her performance, which she ultimately accomplished. Katy recently tweeted a “hint” to fans as to what her “theme” would be at the AMAs.

Immediately following Perry’s Geisha act, a Twitter debate began, with fans and viewers calling the singer “racist” for donning the Japanese dress.

  • Katy Perry Pregnancy Rumors False

    Katy Perry Pregnancy Rumors False

Katy Perry pregnancy rumors have made their way around the web and back in recent days, but friends of the Roar singer say they’re simply not true. Perry and boyfriend John Mayer aren’t expecting their first child together.

Some of the rumors in the mill included Katy altering her performance at the recent MTV European Music Awards to eliminate some of the pregnancy risks involved. Some rumors said she was already pregnant while others claimed she was preparing to become pregnant, and that John Mayer was completely on board with that plan.

In addition to the rumor about being pregnant, Katy Perry has also been dodging rumors about her purported engagement to John Mayer. Spotted wearing a giant sparkling ring at the EMAs, fans (and purveyors of frequent rumors) instantly assumed she and Mayer were engaged. All were eager to spread the word, too.

Twitter followers obviously haven’t heard yet that some (if not all) of the Katy Perry rumors aren’t true.

The life of a celebrity involves all sorts of things that many people don’t realize. Sure, there’s fame and fortune. However some negatives accompany those benefits. Negatives like rumors about pregnancies, engagements, divorces, marriages, cheating on spouses and even false death claims can be hurtful, frightening and very difficult to deal with. Celebrities must be thick-skinned in order to weather some of these nasty storms.

Some believe that John Mayer will one day soon propose to Katy Perry. Just as many likely believe she will be absolutely crazy if she says yes. Until official statements have been released by reps for either or both of them, however, or Katy Perry and John Mayer issues their own statements, no one should believe what’s been said is true. That’s just how it goes in the celebrity world.

So no, Katy Perry isn’t pregnant. She isn’t engaged. She doesn’t have six heads, and she doesn’t hail from Martians. She is an incredibly talented and popular singer–but fans don’t need to hear a rumor in order to believe that.

  • Miley Cyrus, Now 21, Has Home Burglarized

Twerking sensation Miley Cyrus, who turned 21 today, suffered the anti-celebratory event of having her home burglarized on Friday, November 22.

US Weekly reports that the LAPD North Hollywood Community Police Station said that there is presently an investigation into the break-in, and items were confirmed to have been taken from Cyrus’ house. Regardless of public outcry concerning Cyrus’ eyebrow-dyeing, tongue-wagging, spliff-toking antics, she is still a young person who had their house ransacked, which is never a good thing, and hopefully law enforcement is able to recover her belongings. A source told US, “She’s (Cyrus) extremely upset and a lot of personal items were stolen. She’s really shaken up about the whole thing.”

Cyrus almost immediately took to Twitter, to post photos of herself laying in bed with her dog, which appear serve as some sort of vaguely solipsistic commentary regarding the burglary. She also tweeted a picture of her birthday cake:

We cannot, and will not, ever turn away.

In additional to Cyrus’ roughly $150 million worth of good-girl-gone-bad monkeyshines, the songbird was recently featured in the track “Real and True,” with rapper Future. Future, who is apparently of the future, decided on a futuristic tone for the video of the duet:

The “Wrecking Ball” warbler is also set to perform at the American Music Awards at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday night. The stunning and talented Katy Perry, who calls the AMA’s her favorite of all awards shows, will open the program.

  • Katy Perry To Open For AMAs – Miley Cyrus To Close

Katy Perry will be opening for her favorite awards show, the American Music Awards.

“I appreciate all the other awards shows for what they are,” Perry said. “Some are just kind of shock jock shows. Some are just like, `Hey, let’s see how many celebrities we can get together.’ Some are actually legitimate like the Grammys, and the AMAs is a very legitimate show with musicality to it.”

The AMAs will be broadcast on ABC, Sunday, November 24. Miley Cyrus will be closing the awards show. Neither of these stars are strangers to award shows or big performances and it’s safe to say that neither of them mind being a little outlandish to put on a good show. Miley recently performed at the Europe Music Awards along with Katy Perry.

Miley has had a wild year and she doesn’t seem to be slowing down. At the EMA’s she smoked a joint that brought some harsh criticism. But if you think Miley lets criticism stop her, you are wrong. She said that the reason she smoked the join was because she knew the Amsterdam crowd would love it and haters would talk about her. She has made it clear that she doesn’t care what the media or anyone else things about her actions. She said,

“I don’t care what the media says because I don’t Google myself so I don’t know what they say and I don’t care because it’s a bunch of people that maybe one time in their life they dreamt about being a journalist and then they became what they are.”

It makes you wonder what crazy antics she might have in store for everyone at the AMAs.

  • Katy Perry Sparks Engagement Rumors. Again.

Katy Perry has once again sparked rumors that she is engaged to the feral John Mayer, according to E!. The songbird looked phenomenal yesterday at the MTV Europe Music Awards, but it wasn’t her blue Zac Posen dress that caught the attention of the media. It was the sparkly on her special finger that had photogs flashing away and speculating.

This would be the second marriage for Perry, 29, who began dating Mayer, 36, off and on last year. This would be Mayer’s first marriage, but would make Katy Perry the last in a long and impressive list of girlfriends, which include Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Simpson, Taylor Swift, and Jennifer Love Hewitt.

John Mayer and Katy Perry took their love to the public last year in a media frenzy that billed her as the latest in a long line of girl toys for Mayer, but these two crazy kids just might make it. They have even made music together, with Mayer co-writing the song “Spiritual” off of Katy’s newest album, “Prism”. He’s not the only one lending a helping hand to his love. Perry lent her vocal talents to Mayer’s “Who You Love”, which is on his “Paradise Valley” album.

In reality, it’s highly unlikely that Mayer is ready to settle down, but “sources” say that it’s only a matter of time for the two famous lovebirds. “Everyone wants them to get engaged.” one of these sources blabbed. “They are so perfect together.” The source added Mayer popping the question is “inevitable,” though most likely not anytime soon.

Only time will tell if this relationship will turn from speculation-fueled tabloid fodder into the real thing. Then, maybe there will be a few moments of rest for the couple. Until the baby rumors start.

  • Katy Perry Becomes Human Maypole at EMAs

Katy Perry Becomes Human Maypole at EMAs

Katy Perry turned herself into a human Maypole of sorts during a performance of her song Unconditionally during Sunday’s MTV European Music Awards in Amsterdam.

The Roar singer joked with MTV ahead of the awards show about her upcoming performance.

“It’s a challenging performance; it’s unlike any of the performances I’ve done before,” she said while on the EMAs red carpet. “It looks like I’m being abducted, basically … and also there’s a bit of a magic trick in it — I’m not getting sawed in half, I’ll do that later — I’ll be floating in space.”

And she wasn’t kidding about any of it either. As dancers surrounded Perry, they wove banners around her as she rose to the ceiling. When what initially appeared to be robes were removed, she was wearing a sparkling ensemble with black reflective jewels. This coincided with the song’s bridge.

Katy Perry teased her fans about the upcoming performance earlier on Sunday via Twitter.

While Katy Perry walked away from the MTV EMAs a winner in the Best Female category, her real win came from the excitement her fans displayed during her unbelievable performance. Some took to Twitter following her rendition of Unconditionally, replete with her human Maypole act, to share their excitement.

Congrats to Katy Perry on her EMAs win, and kudos to her for her inspiring act in Amsterdam.

  • Sara Bareilles Sings “Roar” with Katy Perry

Sara Bareilles Sings “Roar” with Katy Perry

On September 5, 2013, Katy Perry released her newest hit song, “Roar,” to the radio. Unsurprisingly, “Roar” debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard Top 100, becoming Perry’s eighth number 1 Billboard release. While the success of “Roar” was not surprising, the song itself was. Upon hearing Perry’s newest radio hit, many fans began alluding it to another popular song released months earlier – “Brave,” by Sarah Bareilles.

Both songs are similar in their overall messages – essentially, that one must rise above and conquer all their life’s struggles. However, that is not the complaint from the fans. To many, it appears as if the underlying beat and general “tone” of the two songs sound too much alike, leaving many wondering if Katy Perry simply copied the success of Bareilles’s “Brave.” Luckily, the internet has been kind enough to provide a mash-up of the two so that one can decide for oneself:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIUP7MnrN2c

If it is true that “Roar” is a copy of “Brave,” one can only blame Perry’s producers – Dr. Luke and Max Martin. Claiming that Dr. Luke had copied a song would not be too far of a stretch. While working for Avril Lavigne, Dr. Luke was sued for plagiarism, and Dr. Luke also drew much criticism when people stated that Perry’s “California Gurls” and Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok” sounded too similar. Katy Perry has even drawn ire for copying musicians, with many claiming that her song, “I Kissed a Girl,” was too similar in concept to Jill Sobule’s “I Kissed a Girl.”

Whatever the issue was, though, the proverbial hatchet has been buried. This past Wednesday at Perry’s cancer benefit concert, “We Can Survive: Music For Life,” Bareilles joined Perry on-stage to sing Perry’s “Roar.” This act of union was representative of Bareilles’s attitude about the controversy the entire time: “Katy’s a friend of mine and we’ve known each other a really long time, so she even texted me about it and we went back and forth. The shame that I feel that’s happened is that it’s become a drama. It’s putting this negative spin on two artists that are choosing to share positive messages,” Bareilles stated.

The positive message of Bareilles’s “Brave” has been heard and recognized. Recently, patients and doctors at Amplatz Children’s Hospital at the University of Minnesota were inspired to create their own music video for Bareilles’s hit song. Even though inspiration for the song came from the struggles Bareilles’s friends faced with the decision to come out, the message has spread to be championed by any group facing adversity: “The staff put together this video that was very similar to the music video of ‘Brave’ and it’s heart wrenching and gorgeous and beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time…It’s a message I’m so happy to be the voice for,” said Bareilles.

Despite the months of controversy and fan bickering, both Perry and Bareilles have been able to practice what they preach and rise above their own adversity with the song controversy. Bareilles even left a message for those who felt bitter towards the issue: “If I’m not mad I don’t know why anybody else is upset. I’m like, ‘Relax, let’s just celebrate that we can be out there and encouraging people to, like, feel strong and empowered.’”

  • Katy Perry Keeps Her Fans Talking

Katy Perry is all the rage these days. Her relationship with John Mayer, who she recently described as her crush, is part of the reason behind the continued discussion about her. Many fans keep wondering, Will they or won’t they marry?

Then, there is the recent talk about her new gig with the beauty giant, CoverGirl.

However, much of the interest focuses on her musical career. Fans are clamoring for the release of the fourth album, Prism, which will be the first album released by the pop star since her public divorce from the much-talked-about British comedian Russell Brand. The album also follows the successful 2010 album, Teenage Dream.

Prism is being lauded as a testament to Katy Perry’s evolution as a singer where her songs notably express a more mature, vulnerable artist. Katy Perry, herself, best explained the reason behind the shift.

“I went through a lot of experiences in my life that I think built more character. I had to find own self identity the hard way. But I did. I came out alive and stronger, a little bit stronger,” Perry said.

Katy Perry went on to say, “”I think what Prism is, is an evolution and a maturity. I think you can hear growth as a songwriter. I hope you can hear the growth as a person. “I’m into different things. It is my most present album so far. I think I am living very consciously right now. I think I am very aware, more aware than I have ever been,” Perry said.

The album is about an emotionally-enriching message of letting life into one’s life. Katy Perry completed much of the work for the album during the spring and spoke about the factors that led to the reason for the album’s underlying message.

“I let a lot of light in my life during the spring of this year, which is when I made most of the record and it influenced my songs in a very positive way. All these beautiful colors of light and love came out and hope and joy and even just fun party songs,” Perry said.

  • Bruce Willis “Dances Hard” on SNL

Bruce Willis “Dances Hard” on SNL

When most people think of veteran actor Bruce Willis, they envision a serious, rough and rugged man of action, thanks to blockbuster films like “Armageddon,” “The Jackal,” and of course, all 16 installments of the “Die Hard” movie series.

Even films like “The Sixth Sense” automatically bring Willis to mind. But, his famous persona took a whole ‘360’ when it came to Saturday Night Live’s 39th season premiere. It was definitely Bruce Willis like you’ve never seen him before.

Everyone already knew Willis’ night on SNL would be one to remember. He and multi platinum-selling singer Katy Perry made that quite clear in the SNL promo video that was posted on YouTube.
    http://youtu.be/RPg6C4tmW4o

The promo video was definitely a great teaser, but nothing compared to the real thing. Willis took things to a heightened level, showing his comedic side you rarely see.

While Katy Perry may have been the main musical guest with her hit records, “Roar,” and “Walking on Air,” SNL’s season premiere proved that Perry wasn’t the only one that came to dance. Everyone knows Willis is also a talented musician, but he also showed the world that he doesn’t just ‘die hard with a vengeance’ on camera. He dances just as hard! The “Unbreakable” actor hit the dance-floor for the “Boy Dance Party” in a hilarious skit.

In addition to the “Boy Dance Party” skit, Willis also left the world in hysterics with several other skits and parodies such as the “Black Ops” sketch,  the “Lady Gaga Talk Show,” and the “NASA Gravity: Government Shutdown” sketch.

  • Katy Perry Takes Over SNL

    Katy Perry Takes Over SNL

Tarzan’s Jane has nothing on Katy Perry! Yesterday on Saturday Night Live, the platinum-selling singer’s lauded performance spoke volumes. Perry’s Saturday Night Live performance has been highly anticipated by millions across the country. But, judging from Twitter, no one was more excited than the “Fireworks” singer herself. She tweeted numerous times in the hours leading up to her return to SNL. From dress rehearsal, all the way up to the minutes before she hit the stage, she kept the fans with her every step of the way.

Perry’s first set was exactly what the fans wanted. She performed her eighth No.1 charting single, “Roar.” In a jungle-themed backdrop, Perry ripped the stage, taking fans into the visual world of the “Roar” music video. The SNL stage was transformed into a tropical paradise with vibrant greenery and lush palm trees. Adorned in animal print, Perry performed with a live band and full background singers.

Perry also did a second performance, introducing her latest dance track, “Walking on Air.” Released Sept. 30 via iTunes, “Walking on Air” was declared a promotional single for Perry’s highly anticipated album, “Prism,” reports Billboard. Perry stripped out of the jungle look, trading her animal print for plaid. She took fans straight to the club with the heart-pounding, 90s-influenced, retro Eurodance-house beat of the song. It was also noted that 90s singers Crystal Waters and CeCe Peniston were dominant inspirations for the record.

Perry also tweeted “Goodnight” to the world after her second set. Her latest album, “Prism” is set to be released October 22.

  • Katy Perry Confirms Next Single as “Unconditionally”

28-year-old pop sensation, Katy Perry is still beaming with the success of her new single, “Roar.” But what’s even more exciting is that the music superstar has recently announced what single will closely follow its mighty predecessor.

Perry was recently featured as the Billboard cover story. In the article, you get a pretty hefty breakdown of her album, “PRISM.” In the article she also declared the beautiful ballad, “Unconditionally” will serve as the forthcoming album’s second hit single.

The second single is due out on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Perry was one of the many starlets that performed at the recent iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas. While there, she told MTV that, “It’s a love song and it’s different from ‘Roar’ — it’s not eighth-notey.”

She also went on to talk about the universal appeal that she hopes the song will have with her fans.

“And I think it’s a universal love song that everyone’s going to be able to relate to no matter the age, no matter male or female. It’s my favorite song off the record,” said Perry.

“Roar” is still at No. 2 on this week’s Hot 100 chart, while album track and non-single “Dark Horse” (featuring Juicy J) debuted at No. 17 on the ranking.

  • Katy Perry Kicked by Barbara Walters While Down

They say hindsight is 20/20, and Katy Perry reveals to Billboard, in a new interview, that she learned that to be a fact concerning the interview she gave to Barbara Walters during the last ebbing weeks of her marriage to Russel Brand.

“I shouldn’t have done the interview,” Perry admitted about Walters’ Most Fascinating People of 2011 special, which aired that December. “I was playing Madison Square Garden that same night, and I knew that the end of my marriage was coming. I was just exhausted and stressed.”

The “Part of Me” star claims that the Queen of Media kicked her a little while she was already down, but notes that it wasn’t intentional on Barbara’s part.

“I’d prepped everyone that I was running late, but Barbara showed up at the original time anyway,” the “Roar” singer continued. “When I got there, I apologized immediately, but then she said to me, ‘You know, I’ve only ever waited for one other person this long, and you know who that person was? Judy Garland. You know how she turned out, right?’ I was like, ‘Oh, snap! Yes, bitch!’”

But Perry harbors no ill will to Barbara, in fact she still greatly admires her, “I think it’s the coolest thing that Barbara Walters shaded me,” Perry added. “I just couldn’t tell her as we were sitting down for a mega-interview, ‘Hey, my marriage is falling apart. Give me a break.’”

Walters of course brought up Perry’s husband and his troubled past in the interview, and asked if it was “a good marriage, a happy marriage?”

After a pause, a pink-haired Perry, managed to squeak out, “I think it’s lovely, so far.”

Russel Brand informed Perry he was leaving via text message, and filed for divorce from the star just weeks after her interview aired.

Walters went on to ask more questions about Perry’s whirlwind marriage to Brand. When Walters asked the “Roar” singer if Brand’s heroine addiction, that he was battling when they met, bothered her, she replied, “Um, it didn’t actually, because I knew about my father’s past [battling substance abuse]. “I knew that there is a capacity for change in anyone, I really believe that. I saw that Russell’s changed as well, so I believe that people can really…uh…turn out for the best.”

But when Walters asked if there was anything she wanted to reveal right then and there, she said, “No, let’s just talk about right here.”

Her interview with Billboard wasn’t only about a past interview, however. The Grammy winning star also talked to Billboard about how some of her songs from “Prism” take influence from Brand, such as the upcoming “Ghost,” in which she sings, “You sent a text, it’s like the wind changed your mind,” in reference to the devastating text message.

And the song “By the Grace of God,” she said, “is evident of how tough it really was at a certain point. I asked myself, ‘Do I want to endure? Should I continue living?’

“All the songs are real-life moments. I can only write autobiographically. I put all the evidence in the music. I tell my fans if they want to know the real truth about stuff, just listen to the songs.”

  • Cincinnati Bengals Fans React To Katy Perry’s “Roar”

The Cincinnati Bengals and a large number of their fans reacted strongly over social media outlets after Perry’s hit song “Roar” was used to introduce the team. The person responsible for adding this song to their introduction must have just linked the tigers with the sound they make and thinking that her song would work well. Unfortunately, many fans did not feel the same way, possibly because of the singer or just the type of song that it is.

Perry’s song is about empowerment and standing up for one’s self, but as it is played, it did not work as a pump up song. The team had announced that the song would be their pregame, in-game and post-game song at Paul Brown Stadium, leading their fans to go crazy, according to E Online. The crowds started screaming a roar of their own loud enough to drawn out Perry’s voice that they did not want to hear. The Bengals have since been forced to reevaluate when they can play the song, but do not want to completely eliminate it from the rotation.

Throughout the course of every football game, many songs are played over the speakers, and maybe this will soon became just one of the many. Bengals officials released a statement on Friday, annoucning that they would not feature the song as prominently anymore. The drama all started when they played song during their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night last week. Fans took to twitter to complain before the game was even over. The Washington Post mentions that fans reacting this way is a win for tradition, but it also is proof of a national problem. Most arenas play the rock music that has been played for several years such as Guns N Roses, Black Sabbath, AC/DC and more, because it is what fans are used to. When a song by someone like Katy Perry comes over the loudspeakers fans are going to be extremely surprised and the recent backlash is certainly expected.

Several fans continued to share their opinions. One fan in particular, Jason Patrick said “You expect to hear certain things at a football game, soo we hear this and we’re saying, ‘Uh, is this our new theme song?” It is easy to see where he is coming since the sport of football itself is largely based off of tradition, and to mess with that will certainly gain the attention of many fans. He said it was a running joke of the night and other people mentioned Steelers fans laughing at them.

Could this be a way to let the fans pick the song? Bengals fans: try it out.

A spokesman for the team has said that a new song was selected for this Sunday’s game against the Packers, but has not revealed what it will be yet says ESPN. Hopefully it will be something that will receive positive feedback this time.

Just in case you would like to hear the song that stirred up all the madness…

  • Sara Bareilles Reacts To Katy Perry’s Roar

Sara Bareilles Reacts To Katy Perry’s Roar

Sara Bareilles says that she is okay with Katy Perry’s new song “Roar” giving her success, despite the song showing great similarities to her own song, “Brave.” Bareilles does not feel that “Roar” steals from her song enough to feel that Perry had copied her, but a large portion of her fan base felt otherwise. Luckily for her, the great buzz swirling around the two songs helped Bareilles and her song has become more popular as a result.

A number of her fans reacted strongly last month, thinking that “Roar” had stolen the melody from Bareilles’ “Brave,” which was released in April. “Roar” is currently No.1 on the charts, but “Brave,” a song that was not as popular has jumped into the top 40, peaking at No. 31, due to the drama over the songs that occurred over the internet, according to Billboard. Bareilles does not want to let it bother her, and is even friends with Katy Perry. They spoke after the incident happened and were friendly with each other, with Bareilles feeling that she did not take anything specific from the song. She is welcoming the success that Perry’s song has brought to her and is thankful that supposedly being copied has caused people to buy her music.

Both songs deal with empowerment, and being strong in what you want to do. She was not affected in a negative way when the song was released, and as a result of the way that her fans reacted so strongly, she even felt upset with them. In response to how the fans reacted afterward she said, “To be totally honest, I was sort of disappointed in how aggressive fans were being about it.” They are both singers making music independently of one another and sometimes sounding similar is unavoidable. That seems to be the way Bareilles sees it anyway.

She described the story behind “Brave” when saying, “I had a good friend who was struggling with coming out as an adult, so this is sort of my message to that person.” Time Magazine says that “Brave” was co-written with Jack Antonoff, the guitarist for FUN. and it is the first single from her latest album, “The Blessed Unrest.” The Grammy nominated singer is well-known for her song “Love Song,” from her album “Little Voice,” and will begin a tour on October 6th in Boston.

Her and Perry are still on good terms with each other and even joked about mixing their songs together, just to make sure all of their fans know that they are not mad at each other about what happened. If the singers are fine with it, the fans should be too, right?

  • Katy Perry ‘Roars’ Back at PETA’s Attack

Katy Perry ‘Roars’ Back at PETA’s Attack

Katy Perry was under attack two days ago by PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) after her video for her new hit ‘Roar’ was released September 6. The video includes multiple animals: an elephant, a tiger, some birds, an alligator, and a monkey. Various scenes in the video show Perry showering with the assistance of an elephant, brushing a crocodile’s teeth and roaring at a tiger.

Protesting the use of real animals on the video set, “What you may not know — as most people do not — is that animals used for entertainment in film and television endure horrific cruelty and suffer from extreme confinement and violent training methods,” PETA’s Merrilee Burke writes in a letter to the video’s producers and directors. Burke adds that a set with bright lights and crowds can traumatize an animal or cause stress and anxiousness.

The animal rights group also attacked Serengeti Ranch, one of the animal providers for the music video. The Texas based ranch has been cited for 13 animal rights violations since 2001.

But, Katy Perry, an avid animal lover was able to release a response quickly with a letter from the American Humane Association, explaining how their representatives were present all three days, while the video was shot.

    It reads:
“American Humane Association was on set for the filming of the above referenced music video, which used an elephant, a monkey, birds and a tiger. After reviewing the reports, we believe that the Guidelines for the Safe Use of Animals in Filmed Media were followed and that no animal was harmed in the making of this music video.”

PETA must not have done much investigating before making remarks against Perry and her crew. Katy Perry is known as “Kitty Perry” for her love of cats, as well as other animals. Which is actually featured on the tiger’s collar in the video.

Last October, for Katy’s Birthday, a fundraiser was setup for friends and fans to donate to ASPCA.Katy tweeted:

Among other celebrities like Natalie Portman, Kristin Bell, Perry was previously PETA’s Sexiest Vegetarian in the UK, and ranked third behind Olivia Wilde as America’s Sexiest Vegetarian in 2012. Perry gave up meat and lived vegetarian for over two years while she was in a relationship with and married to Russell Brand, but has since converted back to eating meat.

Had PETA adequately investigated the video shoot, crew, and the talent involved, they would not have made a fool of themselves. PETA has yet to comment on Katy Perry’s response to their original remarks.
