  • Lady Gaga Promotes ‘American Horror Story’ Stint, Starts Countdown to Season Premiere

Lady Gaga is set to star in the upcoming season of American Horror Story as the creepy owner of the Cortez Hotel. The singer is clearly excited about her upcoming role, as she is promoting a countdown to the October 7th premiere via Twitter.

Appearing in a new teaser trailer for the FX hit show, Lady Gaga doesn’t look a lot different than she does when performing on a concert stage. Her wardrobe is similar to outfits she’s worn throughout the past few years as a music superstar. Series creator Ryan Murphy said earlier this summer that several designers have collaborated on her wardrobe ensemble.

Lady Gaga will play an Elizabeth of Bathory-inspired character, who not only owns the hotel, but also engages in love affairs with both Matt Bomer and Fin Wittrock.

Returning American Horror Story stars Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, Denis O’Hare, Emma Roberts, and Wes Bentley will star alongside Lady Gaga in American Horror Story: Hotel.

Ryan Murphy said all the seasons of the show are connected somehow, and that the thread will all make sense when the series comes to an end.

Are you an American Horror Story fan? Don’t you see Lady Gaga meshing perfectly with the characters, as well as with this season’s story line?

Might Lady Gaga consider giving up singing and turn to full time acting at the end of her latest pursuit?

There are no doubt a vast number of fans who pray that’s not the case.

  • Bruce Willis Replaced by Steve Carell in New Woody Allen Movie–Was He Fired?

Bruce Willis was recently replaced by Steve Carell in a current Woody Allen film already in production. There is some confusion about the reason Willis was replaced, with reports running the gamut from his being fired to production interfering with his upcoming Broadway role in Misery.

The Boston Herald reports that Bruce Willis was set to star alongside Blake Lively, Parker Posey, Kristen Stewart, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeannie Berlin, Corey Stoll, Ken Stott, Anna Camp, Stephen Kunken, Sari Lennick, and Paul Schneider. Woody Allen serves as both writer and director.

Now with Steve Carell in Willis’s role, prospective fans are no closer to knowing anything about the film. The plot is completely under wraps and no title has been announced.

Bruce Willis will appear alongside New York theater favorite Elizabeth Marvel in the screenplay of Stephen King’s novel Misery starting this fall on Broadway. He will play the role of romance novelist Paul Sheldon, who is rescued following a car crash from a woman named Annie, who describes herself as his “Number One Fan.” When Annie reads Paul’s most recent manuscript and discovers he has killed off her favorite character, she begins torturing the author–forcing him to write a new novel.

Kathy Bates played the role of Annie in the film adaptation.

This is Bruce Willis’s first run on Broadway. He was beaten to Broadway by daughter Rumer Willis, however, who is starring as Roxie Hart in Chicago, beginning on September 14. Bruce Willis is set to star in Misery beginning in October.

Do you expect Steve Carell replaced Bruce Willis in this upcoming Woody Allen film because he was fired or because of his obligations on Broadway instead?

  • Angela Bassett Dishes ‘I Can’t Believe I Get To Work With Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates’

Angela Bassett opened up recently in a phone interview with Inquisitr about American Horror Story and what it’s like to work with legendary actresses Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates as part of a huge ensemble cast.

Bassett, 56, says it was the lure of working with two of Hollywood’s most-acclaimed actresses that drew her to the show in the first place.

“It was one of the prevailing reasons for me to join the cast,” said Bassett. “I can’t believe I get to work with Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates in a lifetime, especially at the same time. It’s wonderful. Last year most of my scenes were with Kathy and Jessica. Everyone is the ultimate professional and we have a good time. We all have an appreciation for this crazy world and the things we’re asked to do stretches us and grows us. The fact that we get to come back year after year is a plus.”

Bassett joined the cast last season as Marie Laveau in American Horror Story: Coven. This season she plays Desiree Dupree, who is described as a “three breasted woman” with a “ding-a-ling,” in American Horror Story: Freak Show. Bassett says, while she’s used to portraying different characters, there’s a unique aspect that comes with working on a television show that is different each season.

“As an actor you’re used to putting on characters and taking them off — becoming characters and doing your research, but I think what I found most challenging about television and shedding one character and come up with another, is that there’s this lag time before I get to see what the character is looking or sounding like,” said Bassett. “We start filming in July and the first episode is in October, and as an actor, you wonder if you’re getting it right because you don’t have the immediate reaction of the audience just yet. That’s the little caveat of frustration.”

  • Kathy Bates Outs Susan Sarandon As A Pothead On TV

On the latest episode of Watch What Happens Live, Kathy Bates was asked a series of tricky questions and may have bitten off more than she could chew. One of the questions Bates was asked by host Andy Cohen caused her to out fellow actor Susan Sarandon as a pothead.

During a segment called “Plead The Fifth” on the October 30 episode of Watch What Happens Live, Bates admitted that she had smoked marijuana with the 68-year-old Thelma and Louise star as recently as June. The segment entails Cohen asking three difficult questions of his guest, with the guest having the option to “plead the fifth” and decline answering one of the queries.

Cohen asked Bates, “Kathy Bates, who is the bigger pothead: Susan Sarandon or Matthew McConaughey?” Bates starred with Sarandon in the 2014 film Tammy, while McConaughey played her son in Failure To Launch.

Bates hemmed and hawed but finally mustered enough courage to reply with her own question. “Oh, that’s tough… Is this gonna get them into trouble legally? Is this going to get me into trouble legally?” she asked.

Cohen suggested to Bates that it was McConaughey, but the 66-year-old actress didn’t seem sure. “No… No, ‘cause I played his mother in Failure to Launch, he’s a sweet boy. He was headed down the wrong path and now he’s [taking off],” she said.

“Sarandon—you’re giving it to Sarandon,” Cohen said.

Although Bates never answered the question directly, the next thing she said hinted at her real answer. “Well, I actually shared some dope with her last June. Yeah, I was with Melissa McCarthy, we were shooting Tammy, and I was staying at Susan’s house in Figure Eight Island off Wilmington, and she had some good s–t… but I didn’t inhale!” said Bates, who currently stars in American Horror Story: Freak Show.

  • Angela Bassett with a Third Boob and a Bearded Kathy Bates among the Freaks in ‘American Horror Story’ Trailer

A bearded lady, a woman with a third breast, and the world’s strongest man lead the Freak Show in Ryan Murphy’s newest horror story.

Weeks ago, the American Horror Story: Freak Show production team began releasing cryptic, mini-trailers on the FX YouTube page. A scary clown and a sword swallower were among the characters showcased on these videos. Now a longer, more in-depth, trailer has come out featuring some of the series main attractions.

The newest American Horror Story: Freak Show trailer includes Kathy Bates as a bearded lady, Jessica Lange as the German owner of the show (wearing a dress that resembles a carnival tent), Angela Bassett as a woman with three breasts, and Sarah Paulson as conjoined twins.

Michael Chiklis, who recently joined the cast, has a prominent feature in the trailer as the Strongman. Chiklis’ character will be the father of Evan Peters’ character, who is shown in the trailer involved in an embrace with a mysterious blonde. Bates also plays Chiklis’ ex-wife.

The fourth installment of the horror anthology takes place in Jupitar, Florida in the 1950s. It’s one of the few remaining freak shows left, and the members of it will do whatever it takes to keep it alive. This edition of American Horror Story will be Lange’s last year on the show. She plans to retire from acting after it.

Last month, Lange won her second Emmy for playing Fiona Goode in American Horror Story: Coven. Last season, Bates and Bassett joined the show as series regulars. They will likely continue to work on the series even after Lange retires. Bates also won an Emmy for portraying Madame Delphine LaLaurie on American Horror Story: Coven.

American Horror Story: Freak Show also stars Emma Roberts, Frances Conroy, and Denis O’Hare. Catch the premiere October 8 on FX.

  • Kathy Bates Remembers Robin Williams At Emmys

The Emmys were all about remembering Robin Williams and almost everyone who stepped on stage to present or receive an award took a minute to recall a fond memory of Williams.

Kathy Bates was no different and when she went on stage to receive her award, she had planned to dedicate it to Robin Williams. She was too nervous to do it on stage, but was able to share a memory of Williams backstage with US Weekly.

“I really wanted to say, ‘I won this time. This is for you,’” Bates said, before recalling a run-in with the comedian that had a huge impact on her.

“When I won my first major award for Misery—a Golden Globe—it was before cell phones, and I was waiting at a pay phone to call my mother afterward. And I didn’t have a quarter,” Bates said backstage, after her surprise win in the Outstanding Supporting Actress for a Miniseries or a Movie category for American Horror Story: Coven. “I turned around and asked if anyone had a quarter to call my mom. Robin stepped up and said, ‘Here’s a quarter.’ I never forgot that kindness.”

She recalled another incident when she lost to Judi Dench at the Oscars in 1998, an award that Williams presented. “He came to me on the commercial break and said, ‘I really wish I could have read your name. Are you okay? I know what it’s like to lose,’” she shared.

Several other celebrities shared similar stories about Williams and his amazing kindness and ability to make people laugh.

Billy Crystal, a longtime friend and colleague of Williams, also honored Williams’s memory at the awards show with a special memorial segment that brought many people to tears.

Williams passed away earlier this month from suicide. He had suffered from anxiety and depression for years.

  • Kathy Bates On What She Wanted To Say At Emmys

Kathy Bates won a much-deserved Emmy Award on Sunday for her work on American Horror Story: Coven, and even though the actress has been in the business for several decades, she says she still gets nervous when it’s time to get up on that big stage. That’s why, she says, she didn’t say what she really wanted to say in her acceptance speech.

Bates said her first thought was to pay tribute to Robin Williams, who died earlier this month after reportedly hanging himself at his home.

“I almost wanted to say, ‘Look, I own this time and this is for you,’ but I was just so…nervous,” she said.

Williams left behind many grieving fans, friends, and loved ones with his death on August 11 and was given a tribute at the awards show. Like most people who knew him, Bates has more than one story about his kindness, saying that he once checked on her at the Oscars after she lost in her category to Dame Judi Dench.

“He came to me and said, ‘I really wished I could have had your name in the envelope; are you OK? I know how hard it is to lose.’ He was so kind to me.”

Another fond memory of the comic actor? The time he gave her a quarter to call her mama after she won a Golden Globe for Misery.

“When I won my first major award for Misery — a Golden Globe — they didn’t have cell phones and I was waiting at a pay phone to call my mother afterward and I didn’t have a quarter. I turned around and asked, and Robin said, ‘Here’s a quarter to call your mother.’ I never forgot that kindness,” she said.

  • Jyoti Amge, the World’s Smallest Woman, Joins Cast of ‘American Horror Story’

Jyoti Amge, the world’s smallest woman, has signed on to star in the upcoming season of American Horror Story: Freak Show.

The 2′ 0.6″ tall native of Nagpur, India has been acknowledged as the world’s smallest living woman in both the Guinness Book of Records and the Limca Book of Records. Series creator Ryan Murphy announced the news Wednesday on Twitter, alongside a photo of series’ star Jessica Lange.

Amge, 20, has a genetic disorder called achondroplasia, a form of short-limbed dwarfism. The word achondroplasia literally means “without cartilage formation,” according to the Genetics Home Reference website.

After Amge was named the world’s smallest woman, she stated that she would like to become an actor. Looks like her wish came true in a big way.

The new season is set in 1950’s Florida and stars Lange as freak show manager Elsa Mars. Joining Lange is Sarah Paulson as conjoined twins Bette and Dot Tattler. Michael Chiklis will play strongman performer Wendell del Toredo and Angela Bassett stars as Wendell’s wife Desiree Dupree.

Things will likely get interesting with Kathy Bates playing Wendell’s ex-wife Ethel Darling. Rounding out the cast are Evan Peters as their son Jimmy Darling, Emma Roberts as Maggie and John Carroll Lynch as a villain.

American Horror Story: Freak Show will premiere on FX in October. Murphy has said it has “a little more humor and a little bit more camp” than Asylum, but a darker tone than Coven.

  • Kathy Bates Likens Melissa McCarthy to Lucille Ball

Kathy Bates has been around the Hollywood scene for some time and has seen actresses come and go. But she sees something very different and unique about her Tammy co-star Melissa McCarthy. The well-respected actress had some very flattering things to say about McCarthy, even comparing the Bridesmaids star to comedic genius Lucille Ball.

The Oscar-winning actress recently told Tim Lammers that her main impetus for joining the Tammy cast was McCarthy.

“The main reason for doing it was Melissa McCarthy. I had seen her in Bridesmaids, and I wish I could be as clever, wonderful and physical in comedy as she is,” Bates said. “I wanted to get to know her — I really wanted to understand her secret. I wondered, ‘How can she stay so real yet push the envelope the way she does, physically and comedically?’”

Bates gave McCarthy the ultimate compliment in comparing The Heat actress to Ball.

“I can see a comparison in her and Lucille Ball in the way Melissa fearlessly goes places that a lot of actresses wouldn’t go,” Bates said. “She’s nimble, quick and fearless. ”

The 66-year-old actress portrays Lenore, a first cousin, twice removed to Tammy (McCarthy) in the film, which was co-written and produced by McCarthy.

Bates conceded that even though McCarthy pushed the comedic limits of everyone involved, she still could not muster the same talent it takes to enter the ranks of the Bridesmaids star.

“It was wonderful to pretend for a while that you can be as funny as she is,” Bates said, laughing. “When we were all doing our improv scenes for the film, we were just shameless trying to be as good as Melissa because she raises the bar — but of course, we fell short.”

The film tells the story of Tammy, a fast-food worker who is having a really bad day and the fallout from that day. Allison Janney and Susan Sarandon star as Tammy’s mother and grandmother, and Sandra Oh plays Lenore’s girlfriend.

McCarthy’s husband, Ben Falcone, directs the film and stars as Tammy’s boss. The couple married in 2005 and have two daughters together.

  • Kathy Bates Talks “Blowing Up S**t” In New Film

Kathy Bates might not be the first person you think of when the term “blowing up shit” is thrown around, but the veteran actress saw her share of it in the upcoming film Tammy, and she says it was a blast.

Bates worked with Melissa McCarthy and Susan Sarandon on the film, which centers on McCarthy’s luckless character and follows her on a road trip with her grandmother (Sarandon), who drinks like a fish and curses like a sailor. Bates plays a cousin who takes in the two women when their trip gets out of control. So out of control, in fact, that Molotov cocktails are involved.

“I held one a little too long and it exploded in my hand. It was sugar glass, so you really had to throw it quickly once the end of the cloth was lit. It was fun to blow up shit–or pretend that you were blowing up shit–and not be arrested,” Bates said.

Bates says the main reason she took the role was because of her admiration for McCarthy, and compared her to Lucille Ball.

“The main reason for doing it was Melissa McCarthy. I had seen her in Bridesmaids, and I wish I could be as clever, wonderful and physical in comedy as she is. I wanted to get to know her; I really wanted to understand her secret. I wondered, ‘How can she stay so real yet push the envelope the way she does, physically and comedically?’ I can see a comparison in her and Lucille Ball in the way Melissa fearlessly goes places that a lot of actresses wouldn’t go. She’s nimble, quick and fearless. When we were all doing our improv scenes for the film, we were just shameless trying to be as good as Melissa because she raises the bar — but of course, we fell short,” she said.

Tammy opens on Friday, July 4.

  • Kathy Bates Discusses Role in New Movie ‘Tammy’

Today, Melissa McCarthy’s newest movie, Tammy, hits the big screens. Tammy marks the screenwriting debut of McCarthy, best known for her role in 2011’s The Bridesmaids, and the directorial debut of Ben Falcone, McCarthy’s husband and frequent co-actor. While McCarthy could have used this opportunity to secure her potential as a lead actress in a major-motion film without the aid of a strong supporting cast, she chose to do just the opposite, loading the movie with a plethora of famous co-stars including Susan Sarandon, Dan Akroyd, Susan Oh, and Kathy Bates.

While many may not have pegged Bates for a slapstick comedy such as Tammy, McCarthy and Falcone had envisioned Bates in the role from the beginning. In speaking about one of the scenes on a dock near the end of the movie, McCarthy stated, “It’s a scene we wrote for Kathy Bates, dreamed of her doing, she’s actually here doing it and now she’s summoned all of her power, which is a lot. It was a palpable, amazing feeling. It felt like a lightning bolt ripping through my chest.”

For Bates, choosing to star in the movie was a no-brainer. “The main reason for doing it was Melissa McCarthy. I had seen her in ‘Bridesmaids,’ and I wish I could be as clever, wonderful and physical in comedy as she is. I wanted to get to know her — I really wanted to understand her secret. I wondered, ‘How can she stay so real yet push the envelope the way she does, physically and comedically?’”

Fortunately, Bates was given multiple avenues through which to push the envelope while playing a molotov cocktail-throwing lesbian friend to McCarthy’s character, Tammy.

“That [throwing a molotov cocktail] was really a blast, I have to say. I held one a little too long and it exploded in my hand. It was sugar glass, so you really had to throw it quickly once the end of the cloth was lit… It was fun to blow up s— or pretend that you were blowing up s— and not be arrested,” recalled Bates.

Unfortunately for Bates and company, however, Tammy opens to harsh reviews from the critics. While some find the film too sappy towards the end, others feel the movie simply fails to be funny and relies too heavily on the same tropes McCarthy has portrayed time after time.

If there is one bright spot, however, it is the relationship portrayed between Bates and Susan Oh, a relationship Bates tried to portray as accurately as possible: “It was important for me to be able to ad-lib how difficult it is, or was, especially 20, 25 years ago, for lesbian women to come out. I think almost more difficult than for men to come out as gay.”

So, if you’re hankering for some Kathy Bates in your life, sit this one out and simply wait for American Horror Story to start back up this fall.

  • Melissa McCarthy Hilarious in ‘Tammy’ Trailer

Melissa McCarthy is a hoot in the new trailer for her upcoming comedy Tammy, which costars Susan Sarandon as her alcohol-imbibing grandmother.

The trailer showcases McCarthy’s unique comedic style and propensity for playing lovable losers. It opens with a classic dance routine by McCarthy to Coolio’s Ganster’s Paradise as she moves in to rob a fast food joint at the end of a very bad day.

The Mike and Molly star plays a woman who succumbs to desperate measures after totaling her clunker car, getting fired from her thankless job at a greasy burger joint and finding her husband doing the nasty with a neighbor.

McCarthy, 43, co-wrote Tammy with her real-life husband of nine years, Ben Falcone, who also directed the movie.

The couple met as members of L.A.’s Groundlings comedy troupe in the late 1990s and have worked together on Bridesmaids, in which Falcone played an air marshal dealing with McCarthy’s antics.

Tammy also stars Allison Janney, Kathy Bates, Sandra Oh, Dan Aykroyd and Toni Collette.

Tammy will hit theaters July 2.

  • Kathy Bates Suffers Through Double Mastectomy

Kathy Bates is normally the very picture of a strong woman; the roles she’s taken on in films and on television portray women who take no guff from anyone, who take charge of any situation and meet it head-on. And I think it’s safe to say that the real woman behind those characters is much the same way; she claimed a hard-won victory over ovarian cancer nine years ago and barely let it break her stride. However, as is the case with many cancer victims, she went on to find herself encumbered with another bout of the disease, this time in both breasts. And in a fearless move, the 64-year old actress underwent surgery to remove both breasts.

“After much consideration, I underwent a double mastectomy,” she said. “Luckily, I don’t have to undergo radiation or chemo. My family call me Kat because I always land on my feet and thankfully this is no exception.”

Even though she just went under the knife a few weeks ago, she fully intends to show up to the Emmy Awards on September 23rd, saying she’s looking forward to getting back to her old life.

“My doctors have assured me I’m going to be around for a long time,” she says. “I’m looking forward to getting back to work doing what I love to do.”

  • Kathy Bates As Charlie Sheen’s Ghost: Twitter Reacts

I’ve never understood the popularity of Two And A Half Men. There. I said it.

I’ve never actually watched an entire episode, either, but that’s largely because the three minutes I’ve seen of the show was enough for me to decide it wasn’t worth my time. Endless 8th-grade humor about male genitalia and women’s bodies and farts only gets you so far. Like, maybe an episode’s worth. Somehow, this show has been on for nine seasons. NINE. They’re still going strong even after losing one of their stars to Ashton Kutcher, in the midst of a huge public breakdown on the part of Charlie Sheen, who has pretty much become a joke at this point.

At any rate, despite the popularity of Sheen’s character, the contention between him and the network execs means they can’t exactly bring him back on, even for flashback episodes (his character was killed off, apparently) or dream sequences. So what’s their answer? They put his spirit in someone else’s body. Namely, Kathy Bates.

Now, I love Kathy Bates. She’s played some of my favorite characters over the years and is fully capable of playing everything from a hard-nosed bitch to a vulnerable woman who tries too hard to make everyone happy. To see her talents used to bring a character like Charlie Harper back to life just makes me sad…especially when she falls into the trap of ball-jokes and sexist silliness.

Twitter users actually seemed pretty divided on the subject, which is rare. I guess I should be glad Bates has found a few new fans in the Two And A Half Men audience, because she deserves recognition for the funny lady she is.
