  • Canada Bans TikTok From Government Devices

Canada Bans TikTok From Government Devices

Canada is the latest jurisdiction to ban TikTok from government devices, another setback for the Chinese social media platform.

According to AP News, the Canadian government has banned the popular app from all government-owned devices. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau didn’t rule out additional steps down the road.

“I suspect that as government takes the significant step of telling all federal employees that they can no longer use TikTok on their work phones many Canadians from business to private individuals will reflect on the security of their own data and perhaps make choices,” Trudeau said.

“I’m always a fan of giving Canadians the information for them to make the right decisions for them,” he added.

The EU Commission and US Congress has already banned the app on government devices. US lawmakers have introduced legislation that would ban the app entirely, and the EU has signaled it could do the same if TikTok fails to respect user privacy.

  • Mike Myers’ White Locks At State Dinner Causes Stir On Social Media

Mike Myers appeared at the White House state dinner on Thursday sporting a head of silver white hair and it has caused quite the stir on social media.

Us Weekly reports the Austin Powers actor dropped in at the state dinner held for Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and shocked everyone with his white locks.

It may be that the 52-year-old actor is sporting the new look for a movie role or it may be that his age is catching up with him. Whatever the reason, his surprise makeover stirred things up on the internet.

Gossip Cop reported that Myers dyed his hair “for fun.”

Fans couldn’t help but share their shock over his updated look via Twitter.

While some users loved the mature, silver-fox look Myers is presenting, others weren’t quite as sure about the new look and longed for a return to the Shrek star’s recognizable chestnut-brown hair.

A few tweeters couldn’t help but point out the resemblance between the Myers and fellow fair-haired comedian Steve Martin.

Do you like Myers’ new white hair?

  • Sasha Obama Meets “Deadpool” Star Ryan Reynolds, Gets Thumbs Up from Malia Obama

Sasha Obama and sister Malia attended their first state dinner at the White House this past week. While there, Sasha came face to face with a very handsome–and very popular–Hollywood celebrity.

Ryan Reynolds, the actor who currently stars in Deadpool, was invited to the state dinner because he hails from Canada. The actor met Sasha Obama as the guests circulated–and while they were talking, Malia Obama gave her sister a rather sarcastic thumbs up.

Malia and Sasha Obama were mentioned in speeches given by their dad, as well as by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the state dinner.

“It’s also touching to meet Malia and Sasha, who are here at their first State Dinner,” Trudeau said. “And quite frankly, the memories for me of being a kid and not being old enough to attend these kinds of events with my father almost makes me wish I had gone through my teenage years as a child of a world leader—but not quite.”

While it was no doubt flattering to be mentioned by the guest of honor at their first state dinner, it likely wasn’t nearly as exciting as meeting Ryan Reynolds.

The reactions on behalf of both Malia and Sasha Obama when meeting the movie star were priceless.

Ryan Reynolds attended the state dinner accompanied by his wife, actress Blake Lively.

  • Blake Lively Accompanies Ryan Reynolds to State Dinner in Honor of Canadian Prime Minister at White House

Blake Lively accompanied her Canadian husband Ryan Reynolds to a State Dinner at the White House earlier this week, in honor of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Oozing old Hollywood glam, the Gossip Girl alum donned a silver Ralph & Russo robe gown for the event, accessorizing with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and a Marchesa clutch. Much to her dismay, Blake Lively experienced a bit of a wardrobe malfunction at the White House, when the gown’s thigh-high slit exposed her shape wear underneath.

Ryan Reynolds complemented his wife’s attire with a dark tuxedo that sharply contrasted with his white bow tie.

In addition to Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, other Hollywood celebs at the State Dinner included Reynolds’ fellow Canadians Mike Meyers, Michael J. Fox and Sandra Oh. Canadian singer Sara Bareilles performed at the event.

Guests at the State Dinner listened to President Barack Obama try to crack jokes about the relationship between Canada and the U.S. He said the countries would always disagree on some topics–like who brews the better beer.

Alas it was likely an exciting night for Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, as well as for the other celebs who attended the State Dinner in honor of the Canadian Prime Minister. Even though it sounds like it may have been a bit of a stuffy occasion at times, not everyone can say they’ve attended such an affair.

  • Sophie Trudeau: White House Prepares For State Visit Of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau And His Wife

Sophie Trudeau has some big fashion decisions to make this week.

As the White House prepares for Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau and his wife, Sophie Trudeau, every detail is being delicately handled and the finishing touches are undoubtedly being checked off.

But, while a White House state visit is a big affair, some might be wondering just what Sophie Trudeau will wear to the state dinner.

After all, Sophie Trudeau’s mother-in-law, Margaret Trudeau, caused such a stir with her fashion choices when she visited with her husband and former prime minister, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, in 1977.

In fact, Margaret Trudeau, a few decades younger than her husband, caused tongues to wag when she wore a dress that was cut two inches below the knee when First Lady Rosalynn Carter and other female guests wore floor-length gowns.

Oh, and there was a run in her hose that made her dress look “racy.”

In answer to the wide-spread criticism, she wore a skin-tight, even shorter dress the next night.

The state visit is not just about Sophie Trudeau’s dress choice, though.

It’s a big deal for Justin Trudeau and Barack Obama, who share similar beliefs and policies. The two have even become friends since Trudeau’s election.

National Security Council Senior Director for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Mark Feierstein said on Tuesday, “I think there is a developing special relationship between this president and the prime minister. Both are young leaders with similar visions. Both have a progressive vision of governing. Both are very much committed to the appropriate use of multilateral tools. Both are committed to diversity.”

He added, “I think we’re seeing that reflected, for example, on the issues of climate change and refugees and other issues. So this will be a good opportunity for the President and Prime Minister to expand that relationship and build on that.”

What do you think will be the highlight of Justin and Sophie Trudeau’s visit?

  • Margaret Trudeau: Kim Cattrall Jokes About Identity Mixup

Margaret Trudeau, mother to Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, was likely flattered when 60 Minutes accidentally misidentified a young Kim Cattrall as her.

The photo in question showed Canadian actress Kim Cattrall on a date with then-prime minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau in 1981.

The photo and video montage featured many images of former Canadian prime minister Pierre Trudeau and his wife at the time, Margaret Trudeau. The piece was about their son and current prime minister, Justin Trudeau, and his upcoming state visit.

A 60 Minutes spokesperson said, “We regret the error on one of the several video and still images shown of Margaret Trudeau. It was corrected online last night.”

Kim Cattrall took the mixup well, posting, “I have a son who is the Prime Minister of Canada? I couldn’t be more proud.”

Margaret Trudeau has a history almost as scandalous as that of Samantha Jones.

Margaret Trudeau was married to the prime minister when he was 51 and she was just 22. However, despite being a seemingly doting wife and mother to three boys, she later wrote about how she became obsessed with Senator Ted Kennedy.

She wrote in her memoir about a “discreet meeting with Teddy” in his office, where they drank wine. She later said she told Kennedy that he “had not destroyed my marriage but that I had used him to help me destroy a marriage that was already over.”

Margaret Trudeau was later caught partying with The Rolling Stones. It was soon after that when her marriage to the prime minister ended.

What do you think about the photo mix-up of Kim Cattrall and Margaret Trudeau?

  • Kim Cattrall Victim Of ’60 Minutes’ Mistaken Identity Blunder, Actress Reacts On Twitter

CBS made an embarrassing blunder after 60 Minutes depicted Canadian actress Kim Cattrall as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s mother.

On Sunday night, the program featured a profile on the Canadian leader, who is set to visit Washington in a week. While a reporter talked about Trudeau’s parents Pierre Elliot and Margaret, 60 Minutes accidentally included a black and white photo of a young Cattrall and misidentified her as Justin Trudeau’s mother.

The photo, taken in 1981, shows Cattrall on a date with the late Prime Minister and Trudeau’s  father, Pierre Elliot. The elder Trudeau dated high-profile celebrities such as Cattrall, Barbra Streisand, and Jane Fonda after his separation from his wife Margaret.

Cattrall just laughed good-humoredly at the program’s gaffe. The Canadian actress took to Twitter and posted a joke about being the Prime Minister’s mother : “I have a son who is the Prime Minister of Canada? I couldn’t be more proud.”

Others were also quick to make fun of the program’s mistake. The Sex and the City actress retweeted CBC reporter John Bowman’s joke about the recent mix-up. Bowman “wondered” if the Prime Minister was half-Vulcan since Cattrall played a Vulcan in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

The program issued an apology on Monday. “We regret the error on one of the several videos and still images shown of Margaret Trudeau. It was corrected online last night,” a representative of 60 Minutes told The Hollywood Reporter.

The blunder occurred a week after the Canadian Prime Minister called on America to “have a little more of an awareness of what’s going on in the rest of the world.”

The Prime Minister’s Office has yet to respond to a comment request by Reuters.
