  • Melissa Gilbert Owes IRS $360,000, Which She Blames On Career, Recession and Divorce

Melissa Gilbert is in trouble with the IRS.

According to CBS News, the Internal Revenue Service says former Little House on the Prairie star Melissa Gilbert failed to pay more than $360,000 in federal income taxes from 2011-2013.

The Detroit News reports the IRS filed a tax lien against the actress in February because of her failure to pay taxes.

Melissa Gilbert, 51, blames the 2011-2013 tax debt on the lack of acting opportunities, the economy and her divorce.

“Like so many people across the nation, the recession hit me hard,” Gilbert said. “That, plus a divorce and a dearth of acting opportunities the last few years, created a perfect storm of financial difficulty for me.”

Recently, Melissa Gilbert announced that she and her family are moving out of their rented home in Howell, Illinois, although husband Timothy Busfield said the move has nothing to do with the debt.

“(The debt) has more to do with the housing crash and divorce in the past,” Busfield said. “It’s a product of what happened with the economy. It’s unfortunate and it’s been happening a lot. It’s not a big deal.”

Melissa Gilbert, who played Laura Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie from 1974-1983 said she has negotiated a payment plan with the IRS.

“I’ve set up an installment plan to fully pay off my debt and will continue to work as hard as I can to erase this debt and dig myself out of this hole,” said Melissa Gilbert. “I am absolutely positive that I can do it.”

Most recently, Melissa Gilbert starred alongside Juliette Lewis and Ryan Phillippe in the ABC series Secrets and Lies.

  • Juliette Lewis Questions Death of Friend Misty Upham: ‘She Could Be Murdered’

Juliette Lewis has doubts surrounding the death of her friend and August: Osage County castmate Misty Upham.

Lewis, 41, mourned her friend in posts on Twitter and Instagram and speculated that her death was criminal and not an accident nor a suicide.

Misty Upham survived many things that many don’t early on in life. She fought for the voiceless fiercely,” Lewis wrote on Instagram alongside a photo her late friend. “She understood suffering and the deepest pain. She had a presence everyone saw and felt. It is this presence that will continue. Out of the dark space in which her light got dimmed. I will remember her as tuff. Wise. Funny. Spiritual. And hopeful. This is another great reminder to call and check on someone when you think to. Not when its too late. RIPMistyUpham.”

Upham went missing on Oct. 5. On Thursday, she was found dead by family members “at the bottom of a 150 [ft.] embankment near the White River,” according to local authorities.

Tracy Rector, filmmaker and a close friend of the Upham family, told The Hollywood Reporter on Friday that Misty’s father Charles identified his daughter’s body to police. Charles initially believed his daughter — who suffered from bipolar disorder — could have been suicidal after not taking her medication.

However, the Upham family changed their mind after seeing their daughter’s body on Thursday and believed her death was not the result of a suicide.

“The family has stated that, after seeing the body, they still do not feel that Misty Upham committed suicide,” Rector told The Hollywood Reporter.

Rector also told the website that the Upham family was upset with police for allegedly refusing to help find the missing Native-American star.

“First and foremost, the family wants everyone to know that the Auburn police did not help with this situation at all,” Rector said. “They refused to help. When she disappeared on Oct. 5, the family knew something was seriously wrong — it was out of character for her to be gone so long without being in touch — and they repeatedly went to the police, who insisted there was no cause for concern.”

Lewis also retweeted a few seemingly sinister messages Upham posted on Twitter in the days leading up to her friend’s disappearance.

  • Juliette Lewis Has Controversial New Role

Juliette Lewis Has Controversial New Role

Juliette Lewis is making a comeback with a new movie!

Kelly & Cal is about a 30-something woman who is an ex-rocker and is now trapped in the drudgery of suburbia with a strained marriage and a new baby.

She slowly forms a friendship, then an extra-marital relationship, with Cal, who is wheelchair-bound

This role is a far cry from what Juliette Lewis was formerly known for, like in Cape Fear and Natural Born Killers. Back in the 90s, Lewis had a wild side that led to scandalous relationships, crazy movie roles, and eventually, rehab.

She has since taken a long break from Hollywood to form, and tour with, her band, Juliette and the Licks.

In this way, Juliette Lewis’ art sort of imitates her life.

In an interview with Salon, she said of the similarities,

“I got the script and I was totally taken with it and moved. It just seemed like a fresh perspective. I met the director, Jen McGowan, and this is her first feature. I was totally convinced that she was going to make something really special. The fact that my character has a musical past, I thought that was so funny. I’m living my rock ‘n’ roll dream. My character is more reflecting on the past.”

Lewis continued, “It was really fun for me because I got to write two songs for the movie. It was so exciting for me because as a true songwriter, it’s not like I used some of my music because her style of music is nothing like mine. So I wrote a song specifically in that ’90s, lo-fi, sludgy kind of vibe. I wrote it with my first guitar player, whose name is Clint Walsh. The last song we wrote is “Change”. It’s really hopeful and melancholy and a totally different style of music. To me, it’s like Kelly’s heart and soul.”

Good luck to Juliette Lewis on her new role! Hopefully we’ll see more of her soon!
